Non-spoiler behind the scenes info: In the comics Hughie was drawn as Simon Pegg, because of that, the show runners wanted Simon Pegg in the TV show, but felt he was now too old to be Hughie, so opted to go with him playing Hughies father instead. No love for other Kiwi, Anthony Starr? He's practically the ........um.....star......of the show (pun...intended?) with a virtuoso performance as Homelander, which basically just makes this show.
No he said Homelander is a Saint because he doesn’t have any of the vices of the others. But keep watching for what Butcher really thinks of Homelander
Holy crap yeah, he’s blond in the comics right? A bit less “friendly” than the tv one but definitely conniving and menacing- and I probably only say that cause he plays a nicer character for 4seasons after.
This show is so good, I was amazed how much I enjoyed it. They adapted the comics perfectly, toned things down exactly where they needed to. So looking forward to season 2!
jimmers123 i agree. At many points, the comics can feel gratuitous and way too far with the violence and fucked up-ness. Some of the stuff in the comics just feels like its there to make you uncomfortable and not to serve the story.
"Why am i looking???" i laughed so hard. In case you didn't notice this show can be very violent, but still, the story is so good i dont think you will regret watching it. Keep it up!
Both Karl Urban and Antony Starr (Homelander) display one of the best actings that's seen in TV in recent years definitely, they both are absolutely superb. I am glad you decided to start this.
I would call Hughie mild mannered, given the super hero context, it fits. That is how they called Clark Kent in the comics, and even Peter Parker could be called the same. This episode could be called Hughie's origin story. Plus, if this was any other story, Hughie might have become a villain. He could have become very Joker-esque considering what he was faced with.
Honestly even into season 2 he could have still gone down a path into a leading villain if the show was to last for over 6 seasons but obviously this is a world of greys so that’s not happening

Glad you are watching this. The whole series is incredible. Episode 2 is maybe a bit of a scene setter, but then it just gets better and better. And I once saw a comment that said you could cosplay as Hughie and Starlight, and they weren't wrong.
So into you doing this Kat & Sonny! Great reaction, your going to love this trip. You seem like really good people, your positive views are appreciated.
It's just like our world except supers are treated like movie and sports stars, the wealthy and politicians. Definitely what we'd see if supers existed.
Knew you guys would love 😍 it. The 2 main Protagonists are Kiwi Karl Urban obviously & Anthony Starr as Homelander another Kiwi Anthony Starr also in Banshee a great graphic type American series from Cinemax.
I only watched The Boys recently - late to the party - and I'm really happy that I found your channel to watch it "again". You have pretty much the same thoughts along the way as I did when I watched, maybe a few questions more even than I asked myself (because I was not watching with anyone else, so I missed them in all the excitement!) Will be along for the ride, for sure! (even though this is 2 years late, maybe you still appreciate my comments now and then.)
Funny that you guys keep watching my series... The Boys is just fun! I loved it... These characters are dope and especially Antony Starr as Homelander, he is killing it! He was in a series before named Banshee and that´s also an GREAT series, best fighting scenes beside Daredevil in a series EVER!
Welcome to the club! I absolutely LOVED The Boys- especially in its allusions/homages to Zack Snyder’s superhero films. 🤗 FYI- Season 2 is in postproduction and due to drop later this year.
Happily finishing watching The Witcher with you and starting this one now, I love watching your videos after watching episodes, that lengthens the pleasure of looking those very cool tv shows and you have very interesting views and reactions. You are very relevant for lots of things there: casting, music, topics raised (specially about "grey" characters nowadays and society issues as sex assaulting), thanks K&S!! A great beginning with that first episode! I have loved too how they refer to pop culture in it, mentionning Matrix as for tshirts of Hughie (Nirvana and Ramones), my favorites scene was the meeting on the bench in front of the lookalike Ironman tower of the Seven in the park. I would give a good 8/10 for that episode!
You guys always look great and always love your commentary. I am lowkey hoping that in one of your future reacts to this show that you both cosplay as Hughie and Annie 🤣
Hi Kat & Sonny, this is such a great series. Glad that your reacting to this, hang on tight, it's a crazy ride. Love the absolute power quote, it's one of my favorites. ✌
Homelander blasts plane. "Ok, he's the worst of them!" "Perhaps?" LOL. Understatement. I love that there are still people who haven't seen this series yet. Get ready for an awesome ride.
the shot of the plane going down remains to this day one of my favorite shots in the series, the complete and sudden certainty that homelander is one of the worst heroes on the show, the plane going down, and then the slow turn as homelander faces the camera as the lighting flickers on his face, and you look at it wondering just what's going through his mind, as his face is unreadable. its an amazing shot
Great choice for a new show! It started out shockingly to set the tone of the episode. Acting was great, music on point. I will enjoy the journey along with you
He also played around some of these in Captain America civil war. Where the consensus was some of them needed to be put in check because they were acting unilaterally and there was damaged left behind. So even though it's kind of...... Weird. Truth be told if people had superpowers there's no way they're all going to be altruistic. Lol and you can bet the first thing some company would do with try to market it. Or government even. I am glad you've started watching the show. I am certain you will like it a lot. When I've watched it it was such a great, new experience - every episode is interesting, the world building is a huge thing in the show, the sountrack is spot on and the casting is outstanding. A sort of detox from all superhero fatigue. Hughie & Annie. Very interesting stories, great character arcs with ups and downs. Starlight is one of my most favourite characters in this show. Billy Butcher. Karl Urban is great as always, but I think it can be said that no other show or a movie managed to properly use his skills. I think that he is much better than in Dredd and that is something. You can say he was born to play this guy. Homelander. Watch out for this one. In my opinion the character is the best part of the entire show and Antony Starr who plays him steals the show. Some scenes with him are 10/10. The entire character arc is also very, very good with several suprises, sometimes to be found in tiny details. Corporate superheroes. I'd say that this is the main focus of the entire show - how corporate machine turns people into monsters, how it deforms them, how it exploits them and where it leads. In some ways it is like the Watchmen, but in kinda our world 2000s. Still there are suprises. One of the strongest points of the show is that nothing is without consequences, especially the most horrible stuff - so the most shocking scenes like the sexual assault are not here just for the value of shock they can cause. You will see how it goes, so brace yourselves. There is one particular scene which freezes blood in veins, breaks heart, leaves you stunned and furious - possibly all at once. You will know when you will see it. Another strenght would be this dark, dark sense of humour with certain anarchic streak enhanced by choices in rock soundtrack. It is not the soundtrack from the HBO Watchmen, but works well enough. Enjoy!
Ha, about time Well, about those warnings about sensitive and graphic moments: there are some. But the show itself is all about grotesque and dark humour, so, it doesn't get you too deep.
