I think high would sound better at home because when you went from shotgun to the medium mono the volume sounded reduced. I like the sound when you had it set to high
Interesting microphone setup. The noise cancellation is most likely using an algorithm that looks at high correlation in the sound. Your voice changes intensity and frequency so it doesn’t fall in that window. Any sound that changes a lot or suddenly will also fall outside that window. An example would be if you crumple paper it will not be canceled but any continuous and consistent noise like a fan or the road noise from an automobile while you’re driving would be canceled. As for line-of-site that will include your body being between the transmitter and receiver. Overall I thought it sounded pretty good. I would suggest running it on medium when you’re outside and since most people tend to talk louder outside the medium setting should work well. It will also help with wind and other unwanted noise. Thanks for your review. Have a great day and be safe out there!
@@allboutthemojo it's going to be best used for voice communication. Anything that has noise cancellation that uses an active algorithm is going to cancel any sustained note Even if noise cancellation can be turned off it would be too easy to accidentally have it on and completely miss a track
Great video! Can you connect it to your iphone simply using the classic white aux-to-lightning cable? (instead of buying the specific cable from the transmiter to the iphone) THANKS!!!
Thank you! And great question - I think it wont work with that method, because that aux-to-lightning adapter is made for Audio OUT only, and not Audio IN, which is required for microphones, and hence the need for that specific cable.
Great demo video. You did an outstanding review. Is it the best mic to use for everything, probably not. Is it the best mic to use, when you are on a budget, or want to grab a quick interview on your cell phone, or podcast, or a road trip doc, or as an emergency backup mic? Absolutely! This is definitely a must to have in my gear bag.
Thank you John! I use it as a quick grab and go mic when I need to film outside my studio, otherwise I use my main shotgun XLR mic for most of my recordings. :)
What audio settings did you have on your camera? Hollyland says to have it max on the mic and low on camera snd it's still too low for me. I'll have to experiment more but what did you do?
Hiya just purchased these mics on recommendation from you on this video. We started filming food reviews at the beach on TH-cam 5 months ago and we were looking at ways to remove some of the wave sounds. We found the video very informative and helpful. We will be down on Blackpool Beach tomorrow, look forward to trying these microphones then. Thanks Take care 🩷
If you were to choose a MIC to have the best sound quality in outdoor environments, would you go for the Vimo C or Lark M1 or Blink500 B6? Nice Video !!!
This system has a few things going for it. I like the ultra small size and the eight hours of run time. Also a big plus is being able to CHARGE and PAIR the units independant of the charging box. If the box ever fails, you're covered. It would have been nice to hear the out-door distance test without the Noise Reduction switched on. To be honest, except in 'live' situations, it's probably best to leave NR off during recording and then deal with it manually in Post. A "Non NR" walk test may give a better indication of the system's true performance. But hey - nice review none the less. I learned a lot from your presentation ... Thanks! (I'm *tempted* but still weighing up other systems as well - though the price on this is very favorable). *UPDATE - I ended up buying this unit*
Hey! Thanks for the detailed feedback. In hindsight, you're right, I should have done a non-NR outdoor walking test - even though the first 10-20 seconds of my outdoor sound test was with NR off, I should have done it with more scenarios. And you're right, I also prefer doing post-editing audio fixes with NR off, because with NR on, the algorithm sometimes doesn't capture the audio naturally. But overall I'm still very happy with this.
Greetings .... Based on your review, I went ahead and purchsed this M1 kit. I had considered the *Rode Wreless 2, *Saramonic Blink 500 Pro, *Boya BY-XM6 S2, *HollylandLark 150. They all have their pros and cons. In the end, (after 2 weeks of deliberating), I went with "Small", "Simple", "Fast" - The Lark M1. And although I have a lot of respect for the Rode brand and it's amazing innovations, I get a little intimidated with all the 'Sofware' approach in the latest Rode microphones. I see the HollyLand Lark M1 as a refreshing way to go ...... The only thing I need to work out now, is how to get true "split audio" into an iPhone. The Hollyland M1 I purchased (on Amazon) comes (I think) with NO cable accessory for direct connection between the Lark M1 and the iPhone's lightning port (although yes, they come with all the other "trs" / "trrs" type cables). I've seen other sites advertising the M1 as coming WITH a "TRS to Lightning cable" inluded with the bundle (for more money of course). All I'm trying to achieve is "split" audio. ie: talent no.#1 recorded to left channel and talent no.#2 recorded to right channel. I'd really like to know how to achieve this? - SO please advise where the cable can be purchased ???? *(Edit Update: The accessory cable in question may not pass a true "split" signal to your iPhone recording app. A converter cable ie: a "TRS analogue to Lightning Digital" should do the trick)* .
@@michaelallen6946 @michaelallen6946 Yep, each transmitter is a "single" channel. So stereo is achieved by using both transmitters on the same person. But with a 2 person interview, one transmitter is used on each person - sending 2 x mono channels to the receiver.
Thank you for a fantastic review. I just purchase one kit and I am wondering. Can I purchase a second set to use at the same time? Will they interfere with each other?
Hi, thank you! When you say "at the same time", do you mean if it's possible to connect 2 more transmitters to the same existing receiver? I'm not 100% sure if that would work but before you buy a 2nd set, might be worth dropping Hollyland a support message to see if it's possible.
Towards the end of your video, when you walked back to your camera, you said you played back the audio and that it came out "perfect". There were a few times when the audio dropped out, became scratchy or muffled during your walking away from your camera filming outdoors. So, how could you say that the audio came out perfectly?
I think 200 meters is quite a long distance. This issue doesn't decrease the value of the product. Any decent Vlogger would shot %90 of their footages within max 20-30 meters. Which is more than enough I guess.
Thank you! I thought about that too, but I dont think there is. What I do, is just press the volume up a couple of times to know its on Max, then press it down once to go to Medium.
Thanks for the great review/video! What would you think about using this setup for recording 'sleep talk'? I have an old voice recorder, but it gets lost under blankets, and doesn't have any sort of noise cancelling. I'm thinking I could use 2 mics, one clipped to each side of my pillowcase, so that when I turn (I am a side-sleeper), I will still get audio. How strong is the clip on these mics? Would it stay in place on my pillow while I sleep? I use a Samsung Galaxy A51 Android 12 phone, so I would need the adapter. There are several apps available in the Play store that will record only when there is sound, so perhaps one of those apps would work. I might also use the mic with my Windows 10 PC to record audio to Reaper DAW. I'm not sure whether USB or 3.5mm jack is the best way to record to a PC. I also play a nature soundtrack while I sleep, so I don't know whether the noise cancelling would work for this sound or not.
These look amazing to me but they don't have on board recording AGAIN, without on-board recording I would not consider a product like this, the backup on board recording is just so important in the event that the transmitter loses connection to the receiver even temporarily, I don't know why Hollyland won't put this into their products as it would be a game changer for them.
I've reviewed a few mics that have on-board recording via SD card too, which is definitely a very useful feature. Maybe one day Hollyland will introduce this!
Hello! On-board recording requires purchasing a specific patent, which will raise the price of this specific product :) we will keep this market need in mind for our future products! you can count on us !
On board recording would necessitate a price increase of at least $100. Then you'd be complaining about the high cost of the M1. If you watch the review by Engearment comparing the DJI Mic, the Rode Wireless Go 2 and the Hollyland and listen carefully to the sound comparisons of each, you'll see that the Hollyland sounds almost exactly like the DJI, albeit at a lower volume, and significantly better than the Rode that sounds muffled by comparison. I personaly feel that for the price and qualities of the Hollyland it's a hard act to follow... especially at half the cost of the competition. And the Rode doesn't have a charging case, as does the DJI.
@@lawrencebeck4777 Maybe so, but if the recording gets interupted, your audio is gone or damaged... there is no substitute for the backup of onboard recording.. and just for the record i would never complain about the cost of quality hardware. I just spent 14K on a mac Studio... its not about the cost for me, its about the functionality!
That was a fantastic review, so thank you. I've had this microphone set for about 4 months now and used it for 6 videos but perhaps you can help me out here - why, if I'm filming a tutorial clip that involves a piece of machinery (specific a machine that operates at high speed, for example a food mixer or a sewing machine) does it sound normal when the machines first start up, but within a few seconds they sound like robots and almost fade out? I'm not talking in the clips at this point and there is no other sound in the room. I've tried this with the NR on and off both at default volume and it's exactly the same....
Thank you! I do think it's strange that the audio is doing that, because I was going to suggest about NR mode being on, which would make sense why it's doing that, but if you've tested it with it off, then definitely shouldn't be robotic after a bit. I'm not quite sure why or how unfortunately, sorry! Maybe you could email their support team?
@@TrendingReviews I did email them yesterday funnily enough - they replied this morning and suggested that I did the voice recording with the Hollyland mic but when it comes to using the machinery I should switch to using my mobile phone for the microphone (even though I'm using a webcam) and when the machinery has finished I should switch back to using the Hollyland mic....!!!!!!!
Thats such a weird suggestion!! haha The only thing in that situation then, is if you record the video simultaneously with your webcam and your phone. And have the Hollyland Mics connected as you are now, but when it comes to editing the video, you can easily use the audio that makes your machines sound more natural, and then cut it with the overlay of the other audio track where you speak into the Mic. I know its a pain, but if its going to be such bad audio when using the machines, it might be the only way.
@@TrendingReviews Or another thought would it be because I have the receiver plugged into the laptop and the sound card is rubbish? I'm recording them using a webcam and the webcam doesn't have an external mic jack
HI. Great review. Bought it base don your review. One urgent question. Where di you get the The Hollyland Lightning to TRS and USB-C to TRS Patch cables that you bought separately . you showed the boxes too at the start. U ant seem to find them anywhere. Do let know. Thanks
Hi - thank you for your feedback, and glad my video helped you decide to buy the mics! In fact, those 2 additional patch cables were sent to me, along with the Lark M1, by Hollyland directly, in order to do the review for them. I think they will be added to their Hollyland Store soon, even though they might not be available just yet. In the meantime, I'd recommend using the TRS to TRRS cable that comes in the main box, and use it with an adapter for your phone.
@Trending Reviews Hi. Thanks for your reply. Possible for me to get introduced to the PR team that sent this to your for a review. I host some of the biggest Tech shows on TV and online in India. Would help if I could get a contact number for their PR. I've direct messaged you on Instagram. Would appreciate if you could let me have contact details there. Thanks.
Loved the video and the information. You did such a solid job presenting it directly and it's something I definitely appreciate! I was wondering if this has held up with time? Considering getting it and with the video being a year old I thought maybe you'll have some long term thoughts on it as well! Thanks again for the video!
Thank you! Yes I would definitely recommend still till this day. I've always been a fan of the Hollyland brand and it's what gives me confidence about their Mics being last-longing and great sounding pieces of tech. I still use this with my Sony as it's such a quick and easy setup with great audio output.
Very good presentation, thank you very much. Just one question please.. Does each transceiver record the audio separately in internal memory or only in the receiver? Thanks!
Thank you for the comment! They both record to receiver (i.e. Camera memory on a single channel). They don't have any internal memory to record it independently.
Thanks for the review. I had bought a cheapie set up that the receiver connects directly to my Android USB C Port and worked great for the last month, but at times was getting an echo recording and basically messed up all my video clips. Looking now for a better quality set up. How does this Hollyland receiver connect to my Android Phone?
I've pinned a comment and added to description! They don't sell the official Apple one just yet, but there is an alternative that should also still work.
@@neparutv I've been trying to find a convenient way to use this on a gimbal, but I just dont think its made for Gimbal usage. I'm still exploring ideas, so if I find one, I'll make a review video on it too.
Nice one, I was looking at the Max, but think I'll go with instead as I only intend to use it for Vlogging , holidays etc. Seeing I can get it for £109 it's a bit of a no brainer compared to the Max.
Thanks! It's responded really well. The studio that I'm sitting has plenty of interference devices (WiFi Mesh Booster, Alexa, 2x phones, tablet, security cam, TV, PS5 - all of which are constantly picking up signals for connection), and even then, there wasn't that much high frequency hissing noises from this mic.
Hello, very nice explanations. But there's one thing I don't understand. I have the same system and also the 3.5mm to USB-C cable from Hollyland. However, I can do whatever I want, I always hear the sound (whether with the action cam or on the PC) from both speakers at the same time. So it's not the case that when you use both transmitters, the sound can only be heard on the left and the right. What could be the reason?
Can you check to see if you have Mono or Stereo mode enabled on the RX? That might be the issue. Its the difference between the blue and green light being on.
@@TrendingReviews Unfortunately it has nothing to do with that, it doesn't matter which mode I set, the sound always comes from both speakers. I'll probably try a different cable. Thank you 👍
Hey man, great vid. I got a question in mind... I have an idea that the transmitters usb c port could be used with usb c external lapel mics? Just wondering if you've tested this out at all? Cheers 👍
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Good question - I haven't tried this myself because I don't have a USB-C Lapel Mic - but if I had to guess, I think that USB-C port was designed for power input only, and it wont output signals to be compatible with 3rd party USB-C accessories.
Interesting entry level kit. NR is more of a gimmick, which might actually work sometimes. But it makes sound too digital to me, especially when the algorithm fails. Having no option to connect external microphones reduces the system's flexibility. The transmitters are tiny but that big name and logo is terrible, if you cannot use small lavs with it, the transmitters should show lower profile or at least look elegant. Still, it looks good value for money if you do not need the extra features and versatility of other kits that cost two-three times this much.
Years ago we'd cover the logo on our cameras, when traveling abroad in large cities, with black masking tape. The same could be used here if the bright logo is an issue for you. Not the least bit of a deal breaker for me.
How to use it with mobile gimbals like OM5? Unlike DJI mic where receiver can be directly attached to phone it as a long wire will will keep receiver hanging while phone will be on gimbal. Any suggestions?
I have noticed in your review and a few others that the noise cancelling tends to mess with the volume from the person talking in a random fashion. Definitely useful in super loud areas but personally I'd leave it turned off. Hearing cars or certain background noises isn't bad. Feels like video would be weird if I could visually see stuff that's clearly making noise but couldn't hear it
I agree - I usually tend to always have this off - unless it is really noisy to the point it interferes with dialogue, I don't think its necessary. Agreed!
If anyone coming from 2023 dont search for more video. This is the only and perfect video. All other youtube recommend videos are not perfect.

Nicely done review. Neat!. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thats such a weird suggestion!! haha
The only thing in that situation then, is if you record the video simultaneously with your webcam and your phone.
Great video! I am planning on buying one of those. :) Where do you keep the receiver when you film outside? In your pocket or near the phone? Thanks!
Thanks.
I love your review big like 😍
this guy did an amazing f******g job props to u man🙏 explained it perfectly🔥🔥💯
Thanks my man!
So doesn't remove the background noise 100%, but still helpful, and has to be taken into the sound editor program.
Hello ..
Can i charge my phone via the receiver when using it? Some cheap mics does it, which is a feature i love.
Thaks for the great review!
Not with this one unfortunately. But thank you!
Good video but why is there a fuzzy sounds the entire time?
Is there any way to disable the noise reduction?
just press the yellow button, the guy shows how to turn off the noise reduction at 8:21
Loved the video and the information.
@@TrendingReviews Appreciate the quick response!
Very good presentation, thank you very much. Just one question please.. Does each transceiver record the audio separately in internal memory or only in the receiver? Thanks!
Thank you for the comment! They both record to receiver (i.e. Camera memory on a single channel). They don't have any internal memory to record it independently.
@@TrendingReviews Thanks!
My Hollyland Lark M1 works in stereo mode when the light is green compared to blue (mono)
Thank you for this! Super thorough and helpful. I am not wanting to invest 300 bucks into the Rode version as a newbie TH-camr, so this is great!
Thank you! Glad it was helpful :)
Would be nice if the RX could send the audio over USB-C to a PC.
Thanks for the good content!
Really helpful video. Thanks
Is this better than the Fulaim?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Hi Thanks for Video. Did u check Sound quality c1 vs M1? Which better?
They are identical, just the C1 is specifically for iPhones with the lightning connector.
where to get the lighting cable there is no link of that cable?
I've pinned a comment and added to description! They don't sell the official Apple one just yet, but there is an alternative that should also still work.
@@TrendingReviews Thank you
can I use this as shoutgun mic with with rx and tx both mounted to camera at same time? will there be feedback?
You mean that if you only get the one transmitter one receiver package that you're doomed to mono?
Can I use this with a laptop? Do I need more leads?? I have a pc and and apple.
Thanks for the tutorial, I don’t know how to change from mono to stereo for month. 😭😭😭
thank you. could you please suggest me handheld grip for Holyland lark m1
Hi - do you mean a Gimbal, or just a grip?
@@TrendingReviews gimbal
@@neparutv I've been trying to find a convenient way to use this on a gimbal, but I just dont think its made for Gimbal usage. I'm still exploring ideas, so if I find one, I'll make a review video on it too.
@@TrendingReviews thank you for your efforts .
Anyone else not have the charging box and unable to pari the transmitter?
Whats going on at 8:55 with the audio?
Nice one, I was looking at the Max, but think I'll go with instead as I only intend to use it for Vlogging , holidays etc. Seeing I can get it for £109 it's a bit of a no brainer compared to the Max.
Yep makes sense! Good luck with it all!
How does it sound connected to a Mac Pro or PC?
great review!planning to get one. just want to ask,how does it respond to some interferance?since its a 2.4ghz wifi signal.thanks
Thanks! It's responded really well. The studio that I'm sitting has plenty of interference devices (WiFi Mesh Booster, Alexa, 2x phones, tablet, security cam, TV, PS5 - all of which are constantly picking up signals for connection), and even then, there wasn't that much high frequency hissing noises from this mic.
great video thank you
Hello, very nice explanations.
Thank you 👍
Yeah could be the cable - Not sure why its happening tbh and sorry I couldn't be of more help! Good luck with it :)
@@TrendingReviews 👍 Danke Dir 😊
Hey man, great vid.
I got a question in mind...
I have an idea that the transmitters usb c port could be used with usb c external lapel mics?
Just wondering if you've tested this out at all?
Cheers 👍
Hey, thanks for the feedback!
Good question - I haven't tried this myself because I don't have a USB-C Lapel Mic - but if I had to guess, I think that USB-C port was designed for power input only, and it wont output signals to be compatible with 3rd party USB-C accessories.
They need one with the receiver like lark 150.
The form factor of the transmitter is perfect just like the picomic
Do we need to buy 3.5 mm to type c cable separately?
Does the M1 work on the one plus 10 and above?
can this be used with a gopro? very well done review thanks.
I haven't tried this so not sure - but if your go pro is compatible with supporting external Mics using TRS input, then it should work :)
What Apple Watch band are you wearing
Could this be used as a wireless microphone on pc?
Will this work for recording a meeting?
Is it possible to take the label of?
It's cheap. Cry harder snob.
I'll have to say top review just because you used the fan to show us noise reduction... No joke thank u
Will mobile speaker work if Rx is connected?
The best testing to prove is to do it in noisy city and car road side. Especially those place people pass by between the mic and the receiver
Can you connect it with PC or MAC?
Could I use this for phone calls?
How to use it with mobile gimbals like OM5? Unlike DJI mic where receiver can be directly attached to phone it as a long wire will will keep receiver hanging while phone will be on gimbal. Any suggestions?
Great video
But why when i use 1 transmitter in mono....i only listen sound only in one earphone.
Agreed!
How can you know the volume on your iPhone
