Hollyland Lark M1 | iPhone 13 Pro Max and Sony testing | SMALL is an understatement

  • The smallest and lightest mics I've used so far. These include an active noise cancelling mode, different levels and lots of flexibility. Be it that you need it for TH-cam, for a run and gun setup, for TikTok or any other scenario where you need a fast setup these will do.
    I review and test in detail the different functions, how the mics sound on the streets, the pros and cons and everything there is to know about them.
    I tested with the latest and greatest iPhone 13 Pro Max and on my Sony A7Siii to get a taste of both.

    This is by far the best review I've seen on the Hollyland Lark M1 microphone! I just purchased this for two reasons; 1) it was on sale for only $109.00 and 2) it's size makes it easy for me to take with me when I travel. A third reason would be simplicity. It seems that it would be easy to set up and use. I'm sure professionals would want something more complex, higher end with more features that cost a lot more money. I'm just an average guy wanting something better than a built in microphone or shotgun microphone.
    Thanks again for this great review!!! 😁

    Your comment about the ability to add a lav Mac to this system is spot on. Also, I didn’t notice if it had charge through capability when attached to the phone. That would be great. But adding those tow features would prob push it out of their target price point, which I understand. This seems to be a great option for the minimalist creator and looks to be a good option. Thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Kevin. Yep this is very much a "run and gun" or even a "run FAST and gun" typa setup ;)
      but it definitely does the trick for me and - while I never use the sound canceling feature - it really covers all bases. Would be great if it would charge with the phone but it's also true that the batteries last forever and once in the box - they get some juice. Take care!

    Very interesting. Could see quite some uses. I feel it's a very good "entry point" if you don't have a huge budget to invest in mics, and it doesn't appear cheap quality. I'd say good price/quality ratio!

    with the noise cancelling tech built into audio/video editing software getting SO GOOD (Davinci resolve voice isolation is stupid good for not being an extra paid-for feature) I would never use voice isolation on any mic. these budget mics coultn't possibly have the processing to do any good sound clean up

    Excellent comparison Chris. I didn't like the sound of the Hollyland M1 recorded outdoors. I found him stuffy. Perhaps it would improve if you increased the pickup to -9 decibels. It would be interesting to make a comparison with the Rode Go II in an outdoor recording. Brazilian greetings.

    As you said a downside is there is only one jack so you can't monitor audio live. But couldn't you use an adapter that splits the cable then plug headphones into the headphone jack and camera into the mic jack. Not sure if this would work just curious and I don't know where else to find this info.

    • @cris_photography
      @cris_photography  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can use the jack of the camer (at least with my Sony A7siii) and monitor the audio 😀 been doing this ever since and it’s totally fine. So basically you can monitor the audio by plugging the jack into the mic port and use the headphones port to listen to the sound of the mics (but not from the received at this point of course). Hope that helps - cheers

I will make a video about it in the coming days but basically all you have to do (I literally just tried here at the studio) is to plug a patch cable that goes from lighting to jack 3.5 and start recording. I tried on a 13 mini and last time on a 13 pro max so the pro should work without a problem. Lemme know if it still doesn’t work

    I have a question regarding receiver connectivity via trs (with a jack 3.5 mm adapter) with an external audio recorder. Does it work as a combo? I prefer to connect the receiver to my Zoom H6 to gain additional control in terms of… gain. I shoot mostly talking heads-style videos, but I like to have space to express myself with my hands, and that cableless lav mic is perfect for me. Still, I'm in small proximity to my desk, so I can access a recorder/interface with no problem at all.

    • @cris_photography
      @cris_photography  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, honestly I havent tried as this really is a "run and gun" type of setup. Am sure you could find ways to do that but honestly I'd spend a tad more and get the lark 150 (I made a separate video on this channel on that one). What I do to at least monitor my audio is to use the camera jack. In terms of lav, again, the 150 is better and more appropriate, but the small transmitters are ok too (you will see them tho - for the most part - especially with the blue/green light on them). Cheers

    I purchased this product after watching this video a couple of times, as I was quite happy with what I saw here. However, my "cam" is simply an iPhone and I absolutely need it to work with it. The seller makes it clear that I need an MFI certified 3.5mm to lightning cable to connect the RX piece to the iPhone. Hence I made sure to purchase one of such cable as well. However, even so, I simply can't get it to work. When I connect the RX to the iPhone, there's no sound capture at all... did anyone go through this? Is there an additional step other than simply connecting stuff? I thought this was supposed to be a plug&play kind of thing, but maybe I'm missing some config. PS: i'm using an iPhone 14 Pro.

    How did you attach the receiver to the iPhone?

    • @cris_photography
      @cris_photography  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They sent me a cable for it that converts to lightning port

      @@cris_photography you were lucky, it seems they do not produce them anymore. How do you attach the receiver to the phone so that it doesn't dangle around by the cable only?

      @cris_photography  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You open the box, pull them out and that’s it. The received gets connected to your camera (or phone) and you can start recording. Cheers

    great,but how you actually use it and transfer the files?

    • @cris_photography
      @cris_photography  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks. It’s just a microphone - there is no internal memory. You plug it to your camera and when you record it takes the audio from the mic instead of the camera mic. Cheers
