Beginning of the song sounds like a carnival to me
Jimin has said in interviews that during the pandemic, he learned who his friends really were, and he parted ways with those who (I suspect) were using him. Everbody loves you as long as you're the one paying the bill. He was also betrayed by someone at the company who withheld his mail until he missed paying his insurance premiums so his apartment was about to get repo'd.. and then they leaked the story to the press and doxxed him for good measure. He's said that the only people he can really trust are the members.

Jimin tells us exactly what this song is about so we don't have to wonder or speculate (Unless that's your thing, and what you enjoy). Basically, in Face-Off he had friends who did him dirty. (So the title could have been a lot more stronger. In the 2nd verse he says, "Trusting a person is the start of a terrible nightmare". He's talking about someone other than himself. Next verse, "Gave you all THE money, gave you all MY heart." Clearly this is a specific person or persons he's referencing. Again he himself said on more than one occasion, he had a falling out with his friends, not friend, he specifically said friends. I loved how you pointed out how a masquerade party is to hide or disguise a person's identity. The first time Jimin talks about being drunk here, it's not a literal drinking it's figurative. He must have been drunk or not in his right mind when it came to things that were happening with those so-called friends. Although this song does reference drinking, there's a lot more going on than him being drunk so you go to look deeper. Just because it's Jimin he's not always talking about insecurities. It's amazing how that's people's automatic knee jerk answer to everything Jimin.
I agree that there are layers of interpretations. However, Jimin has specifically referenced several times that there were things that happened that he couldn't say more specifically because of younger fans. I don't think that part is about friends or I guess it could be but in a different sense. I don't think it's about insecurities at all. I think he's angry, and there are many layers to that as well.
@@earthmother1541 He was angry because he was betrayed by friends who he trusted and loved very much. Can't you tell who would that be? He also mentioned that he doesn't hate anybody now so he ends up forgiving them in the end. Probably because the show must go on and he has to continue BTS. There is nothing more important than his artistry to him after all. I could totally understand his mindset. It's easy to talk about all these, but what a painful journey he's been through! It's not easy to be betrayed by someone you loved and swallow that humiliation. It takes a lot of courage to open up the wound and forgive that betrayer.
I would also venture to add that many so-called loyal BTS fans/stans dragging him and saying nasty things about him and to him on social media, etc… is also the worst betrayal for Jimin who cares so much for his BTS brothers, his craft, and ARMY…
@@earthmother1541 he is angry and he dislikes it, he was trained to control it, he decided to open to vulnerability because he don't like, and bts don't li,e or understand his anger, he opened to true vulnerability all this years in return he received lots of hate and in the end betrayal of people very close to him, I hope it is not the boys, it could be those friends he use to travel with, he is talking about love, and of course he have loved , ah I dont like the things those songs make me think , he is so strong but their lives are really so complicated, and all the money does not help, as you never know what are for real what are for money, and even their bond as 7 under cameras all the time, is not healthy neither

To me personaly, Face off is Jimin's emotion when he got backstabed, betrayed "("I give all the money, all my heart") and he finaly see the truth of someone behind " the mask" that they used to wears before him. On his vlive he revealed that relationship is difficult and some of them left him for no good. This songs portayed how he feeling low and "don't want to be sober "
And thats how this story goes.. Jimin "FACE" is his diary in chronological order. From Face Off to Set Me Free.. hiw he finally overcome, move on, more stronger and become a better version. Please react to all his " FACE" album. 'Im sure you will more understand. I would like to hear more from you about that.
100%agreed with your interpretation. I sometimes wonder how he could have not shown sorrow at the LA concert when his life was in shambles. The greeting at the concert in INTERLUDE is most likely the LA concert or possibly the Las Vegas concert since he said he realized that "he can't go on like this" in the Las Vegas concert. And after that, he started work on this album in several months. He also mentioned that he had to get it out in music. That's what most artists do. It's so interesting to see how other members reacted and go on in these circumstances and acted like they didn't see or hear anything, although they knew exactly what was happening. In Alone, he said everybody knew what was going on and mocked him in his back. So apparently, he was the only one who didn't know how he was fooled and cheated by the betrayer. What a cruel world!

Thankyou , I've watched it several times as Jimin is my bias, and the reason I dived deep into the BTS RABBIT HOLE in June 2021, after accidentally discovering BTS in June 2021 on the James Corden Show on late night television in Australia. We had the longest Lockdown in Victoria Australia in loothe world. His beautiful smile, eyes and warm personality stood out. Then I discovered his absolutely amazing Artistic Talent and background from his school and beyond. I also learned how BTS started out and what they have been through. BTS helped get me through the COVID and personal situations. There will only be ONE BTS. I LOVE RM'S, JIMIN'S, JHOPE , SUGA'S AND JINS ASTRONAUT MUSIC JOURNEYS THROUGH THEIR SOLO ALBUMS. I'm sure after 2025 when they complete their Military duties the Best Is Yet Come.

I bought the FACE Album when it came out. Amazing 👏
snd3227; I totally agree with what you said. This song is about when he discovered that he was betrayed by someone who he trusted and loved very much in 2020 - April 2022. The whole album expresses chronologically how he felt about the loss of a trusted person( possibly a lover since he said that he gave money and heart) and how he recovered in 2022 just before the 2022 Las Vegas concert which he said in a few interviews. I assume, the amusement park melody drops to express the end of a good time and starting of a hellish time in the beginning. Now, looking back I can see who this trusted person is! Yes, Jimin was angry. Wouldn't u angry if you were betrayed by someone you trusted/loved that much? He wanted to forget the pain so he goes binge drinking but feels empty inside. The rest album is about how he moans about the loss and finally recovers from it. That's my take and I was able to confirm it again and again with careful observations reviewing RUN BTS during this time period. He probably learned big time about life through this experience and that's how all of us grow and become an adult. Furthermore, becoming a true artist for Jimin. This album is remarkably well done. Those painful feelings could've been gone in vain if he didn't make this album.

I think the song portrays that Jimin might have been betrayed by someone once close to him, hence their 'face/mask is off', but the hurt and anger is too much to bear when sober. Maybe that's why he would rather be drunk.
Just Another Lurker, I agree that's why he drank until he forget the pain. My heart is broken when I think about Jimin's sorrows when he found out about the truth of this betrayer and cheater. Apparently, he gave heart and even money. So this betrayer can be a lover to Jimin at that time.

It’s about him the whole album is about him. During the pandemic he did get drunk more - cause they had nothing to do, nothing to work toward, they were isolated like the rest of us. He’s said he felt depressed and lonely and drank too much - his teammates noticed but allowed him to work through it (at least that’s what he and Suga talked about on Suchwita #7) so he wanted his fans to know that he had the same kind of problems they did during that time. It did make him mad, at the whole unfairness of it, at himself for sinking into that pit of despair and depression, at himself for drowning it in alcohol - thank goodness he snapped out of it! The whole album is his emotional journey through those 2 years he said to listen to whole album like a story from beginning to end to understand his journey through it.
This is such a great song. Both Jimin and PDogg (producer) worked long and hard refining this story and song. It's an absolute banger.
I think it's about him taking his face off, coming into his real self. I agree that the song sounds angry. Maybe it's to express how he feels he reached this point a bit late in the game, kind of "it's about time" type of sentiment.
No, I don't agree with you on that. I know some people tried to sabotage him by framing him for something entirely NOT true. This is about how he felt when he was betrayed and lost a lover/ friend who he trusted very much. It's so clear and he mentioned in the interviews very succinctly. And how he overcame the painful situation. I can almost see it as watching a film by reading lyrics and listening carefully to INTERLUDE on the album. He mentioned he realized that his wandering/ drinking/moaning by the loss of the person have to stop in order to survive, just before and during the Las Vegas concert. And approximately 3 months after the Las Vegas concert, he started to work on the album and joined Pdog camp around June or July of 2022. So, it took 10 months to release the album, but the lyrics and melodies were made within 1.5 months, he said. There is no other story other than his painful emotions when he realized he lost the most trusted and loved person in his life at that time. I am always puzzled why people always tried to feed and frame the artist as something other than what the artist clearly expressing and explaining verbally about what it is??? I just never can understand the motivations of Jimin haters.

I think going on what he said about these being about how he felt during the pandemic that it was him facing off (face off) against his inner most feeli gs of doubt, anxiety, depression, insecurity, and loneliness. This is him getting angry enough to try and block it all out so he doesn't have to think.
I disagree. He made it very clear in this song, it's about how he felt when he was betrayed and lost the trusted and loved someone. If you listen to INTERLUDE, the beginning was about someone knocking on a door with anger and then starting an argument and raising a voice. So it tells that he tried to make sense of the situation by confronting the betrayer. And then he ran back and start drinking. This album is very obviously trying to show what happened from the discovery of betrayal and how he moaned and wandered. In the end, he finally overcomes his obstacles and swears that he will not give in to the opposition; in Set me free.

I totally agree. He explained what it is about in Suchwita with a word that you cannot use in TH-cam comments, nothing about pandemic or Army. He calls it his common story, a plain regular broken heart, the angry phase of it.
I entirely disagree. I think the software is his emotions /heart which was hurt, scarred, and developed thorns to protect him from the hurt that can happen in the future. ( you saw thorns and a band aid all that in the pictures). Hardware is about either tougher-looking Jimin in a leather rider jacket now after going through all that pain and agony, or he was looking tough, but all scarred and beaten down on the inside/emotionally. It's so relatable with all of us who's been betrayed by someone who we loved so much at one point in our lives. Assuming everybody was in love and broken up /or betrayed at least one time in their life if you are an adult.??

I saw Jimin as betrayed by someone who he had consequently pushed away, and when he was drunk, Jimin got back together with this person (for one night at their party?} and was sorry he did something he wouldn't have done if he wasn't drunk. Now he has to be drunk so he doesn't have to think about it or face it because he doesn't care about the person anymore and maybe they remind him of what happened to try to prove otherwise. I'm sure there are more interpretations as well.

No, I think slightly differently from you. In the "like crazy" scene, he is in a dream or in his imagination having a good time. His PD decided to use the club scene since most people go to nightclubs to escape from reality and have momentary relief or a good time. I remember what Jimin explained in one of the interviews. He doesn't want to be awakened from the dream because once he awakes, he has to deal with the painful reality. So, his first scene starts with sleepy eyes and dreaming and the last scene is also sitting down in a chair with sleepy eyes in " Like Crazy" MV. His reality is alone and lonely after betrayed and lost the loved one. But, he can't get out of the chaotic reality portrayed as the mud on the floor or the mud on his hand in his MV. I think that's why Like Crazy melodies are somewhat dreamy because it's the scene in his dream. He said in his interview that he got over it near the Las Vegas concert. In 2-3 months, he started his new album.
FACE-OFF: discover the truth about the friend/ or lover and confront the person. INTERLUDE; The summary of the entire story. Jimin is knocking on a door urgently -ends up arguing (face-off with the person who betrayed Jimin) - cries while he is running back to his place - greeting at the LA concert at the end of 2021 - come back from the concert and drinks alcohol -he is telling us that he was the same state of mind until the LA concert. Like Crazy; he is dreaming to escape reality in the club and dreaming about the good time and doesn't want to wake up from the dream in order to not deal with his reality. SET ME FREE; He wants to be free from all his opposition including the haters, and the negative thoughts of anger and regrets about him actually being fooled and mocked for not knowing while everybody else knew what was going on. In set me free, as the poem delivers, he decided to spend his life dedicating himself to making great songs and impacting fans through his music in a subtle way, just like the waves.

He is talking his struggles, feelings when he was alone in corona time. face off when take your role down, been honest pure man inside his instruction, you cant be that in bts earlier. and set me free part 2 he is free, after military they dont have contract anymore. so they they can be individual and as group what they really wanna. no one cant stop they now. this time is best time in Bts history, they told to us what they wanna tell. hard time but I think they deserve this time to be inmilitary to know who they are in real life. and its time to heal, find, search new thing

I like tour reactions as musicians you bring a different dimension in your reactions, because you have interesting real family lives and the difference in your ages brings a balance into your reactions. We all know about Jimin's male and female side. He is choosing and he doesn't care and will live with his choice. I believe you understood his lyrics. I've watched the BTS journey from 2013 until now April 2023, Three times and am still learning. Jimin is a very intelligent Artist and a deep thinker. I noticed that you are quite fixated on gender issues for quite some time. I've noticed your name which became very familiar to me since I see you everywhere with the same comments. I am a licensed neuropsychologist in the trade. So, I know when I come across your type of comments, you are actually interested in your own gender issues that you have and want to hear about what regular people think about you, don't you? It's nothing wrong with that in my opinion. As you said in your comment, it's your choice, and you will live by your choice. You said it. Seems like you already have an answer for yourself. You just wanted to confirm and reemphasize your thoughts to yourself, don't you? I understand. You also want someone like Jimin who is famous, talented, good-looking, and beautiful as you wish to be when you are born again and him to be one of your community people, don't you? Just like the LGBTQ community has been working on BTS members for many, many years to include them as one of their community members. Listen Suzette, I've noticed you are obsessed and persistent enough to comment on every single Jimin song's reactions. But you are wrong this time. Jimin made very clear about the album and what the story is about in numerous interviews. You may not know since not every Korean broadcast is translated into English. All the lyrics clearly say what happened to him and what he was feeling each time. There is no room for misunderstanding or confusion. He just lost a loved one and he wandered around, binge drinking to escape from reality and ruminate endlessly about what happened to him and finally realized that he needs to get up and do something about his life. He also expresses his newly established attitude toward negative people like you who are constantly trying to degrade, mock, and frame him other than who he is, and the negative thoughts in the song "set me free". This album is nothing to do with his sexuality. He was interviewed several times and he succinctly said what the story is about. Jimin is not one of them who will be having gender issues or sex changes no matter how you guys go around trying to convince Armys with not even a logically possible storyline when you look at the MV. I have to say you guys are quite clever and imaginative to come up with such a bogus story, though. Meanwhile, I'd like to talk about you. Even if you have gender issues, why do you worry about some random celeb when they have an entirely different life from you? Just because they act friendly and humble enough to look at you at the same eye level, doesn't mean what you see and hear is all their life is about. Don't you think they need some privacy and dignity? Try to find a role model from nearby you, not from a culture you don't even understand. Because cultural backgrounds make huge differences when it comes to gender identity. Well, this was an unexpected direction. I’m 68, which means I was a kid in the 60s. One day I looked at the newspaper past the comic section (called the funnies lol), and read about a carload of guys wolf whistling someone with really long hair walking by the road, and when they realized it was a guy, they beat him with a baseball bat. I was still young and wise enough to realize hey aren’t we all just humans first? So despite the overboard woke stuff, which is, by the way just the sadly necessary messy way to break problematic conventionals, as it was in the civil rights, anti-war and women’s movement eras, just so you know from one who was an audience to it all.
Personally, I am glad to see androgyny on the rise as a standard of beauty, because it is at a higher, purer human level than gender-based (which face it is mostly about personal sexual feelings). Jimin has often been regarded as an example of such transcendence , as in the many reaction videos posted by straight men.
Despite your “expertise” in the area, your vehemence shows some issues of your own. Jimin shines for everyone, he’s willing to accept the filters for the most generous of reasons. I don’t presume to advise, but based on your post, I don’t think you offer anything constructive to Suzette. I hope you reflect on this in the way it’s intended.
While I loved the Set Me Free Pt. 2 MV, I think Faceoff is my favorite song off Jimin's album. So interesting. Curious what kind of headphones you have to hear different instruments in the left vs. right? (or is it just that my ear isn't finetuned or listening carefully enough - which could well be the case)
