    This video is all about tips for safely bringing your rabbits outside. Our rabbits love the fresh air and open space the backyard provides them but it's very important that you do some prep work first to ensure their outdoor space is safe for them.
    Pet waste can also be hazardous to your rabbit's health because it attracts bacteria, flies and various parasites. Even if it's cleaned up regularly, the scent or particles left behind can be enough to draw these harmful things to those areas. If your rabbit comes in to contact with any of them these things can easily be transmitted. You will also want to avoid stagnant areas of water such as bird baths or ponds which are mosquito and fly havens.
    If you would like to learn more about the dangers of bringing your rabbits outdoors I suggest you read these articles on my blog:
    www.budgetbunny...
    www.budgetbunny...
    www.budgetbunny...
    www.budgetbunny...
    I would also like to note that I do not think some of the photos of runs I used in this video would be a suitable space for your rabbit to get the proper exercise they need. Instead I thought they would be great as attachments to other run areas or to give ideas of something you could build your own rabbits.
    Depending on the type of backyard you have it may be safer to have your rabbit in an enclosed area such as those provided by the link below. I have not been paid by this company and am not actively promoting this website but thought the photos of runs this company creates may give you some creative ideas:

    Damn, I miss my bunny so much. But I think I gave her a good life. She trusted me, I gave her my ENTIRE garden to dig, run around in. Everyday At dusk, I would open my door so she could come back inside in our warm house. She'd automatically go in her cage. At morning, I'd let her out (she always peed outside immediately lol, never in her cage) so she could explore my garden again. Never had the need to mow my lawn again haha. Once I went on holidays and let my bunny stay at a friends house (he also had a bunny, male) that male bunny couldnt resist the beauty of my female alpha bunny and somehow escaped from his cage and made love to mine like romeo and julia... So a few weeks later she had baby bunnies, adorable. They'd walk together in our garden, eating grass and exploring with her mother. It was such an amazing sight that I can never forget. She led a relatively short but fulfilled life (3,5 years), and I think she experienced more life and freedom than most domesticated bunnies would ever have. She died to myxomatosis.... I cried so hard lol, so please vaccinate your bunnies against diseases. Her name was Scurfy.

    Wonderful video as always! I have to laugh a little at the contrast though as for our outdoor bunnies playtime they have to come inside! Its too dry for grass to grow so we don't have that benefit which is a shame. I had to say blimey at 22c mind as the current temperature here is 38-42c both inside and out!
    Luckily our bunnies were born here so they have acclimatised to it and apart from being very lazy in the summer they aren't affected. :) x
    Oh, one more thing... more videos please! :D x

    My bunny is outside in a hutch bc my parents say that my room smells or it’s messy so we moved her out side and she found a little crack and sneaking out and then I was looking for her found her she was happily hopping around my back yard and stayed close to me and I have a giant yard a really big one and I was surprised that she didn’t run away now Ik to close the door the right way.

    hi.
    i have a problem.
    So, when i was 11 i wanted to have a bunny, so we bought two from a near farmer. Keeping them indoors was not a discussion. We never even thought that we would/could keep them indoors. So, my bunnys lived a happy, healthy life for....7 years now..i think.
    So, the problem is. My bunny died. Didn't have lots of symtoms, just that he was staying at one place the whole day and we found him dead the next morning.
    My bunnys were never sick. They lived a really good life outdoors. We have neighbours with dogs who bark, but that never seemed to bother them. They lived through the coldest winter and the hottest summer.
    So, now i have this one bunny left, he'll be so alone if i keep him outside.
    Over the weeked i kept him in my bedroom and he starts to like it i think. xD But my parents freaked out and wanted him outside immediately. Saying that my bedrom was not a "hutch".
    Convincing my parents doesn't seem possible, cause how can i convince them that keeping a bunny outdoors is SOOO DANGEROUS when really nothing ever happend in 7 YEARS!
    Oh, god. I don't know what i should do.

    • @haileyw3812
      @haileyw3812 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Maybe try and compromise with them to let you keep it in another room, or explain what you think happened and how un-safe it is to keep a bunny outdoors. That's probably your best option. Just try your best and I'm sure your parents will come around :)

    • @belleame2518
      @belleame2518 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe try to convince your parents to let your bunnies in an enclosed place. Before I started free roaming mars in my home, I bought a puppy play pen and kept him in my office room. You could try to keep your bun in maybe a basement, laundry room, guest room, hallway, etc. Bunnies can be litter trained so their poop/pee won’t be a problem and bunnies themselves don’t smell bad at all and actually smell like really good. I don’t see a problem your parents would have with your fur baby being indoors. You can bond WAY better with your bun and easily spot problems and any illness. I know this is late but I really hoped this helped!

    • @hiba_6076
      @hiba_6076 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ByeBitch 《 can u stop hating on him? he didn't say anything wrong, I mean most farmers keep their rabbits outside, I have a bunny and I keep her in our balcony most of the time but I let her in my bedroom two hours a day. And if u think his bunnies can't survive outside then how do wild bunnies survive? our way of raising bunnies is wrong. Rabbits should learn to live like any other rabbits. They should live outdoors and smell fresh air, not trapped in a house.

    I live in Florida and I can assure you that rabbits used to a southern temperate climate are perfectly comfortable and happy outdoors at 71 degrees Fahrenheit. Rabbits run a risk of overheating and should be monitored and obviously given shelter and water etc but there is no risk at that temperature.

    One day I'm sure you'll have a lovely backyard to call your own :) In the meantime enjoy the fact that you don't have the upkeep. I hate gardening lol. And thanks! Hehehe, I can't get enough of Rocky marking everything with his chin. :) Your backyard is so beautiful! Such luscious green grass! We're having trouble with our grass, some places it's so nice and others it just won't grow or dies off after awhile. Very informational video! Definitely gave me a couple of new ideas and tips. :) I never thought about the dog waste thing. Luckily Max is trained to do his business in this dirt patch on the side of the yard since my mom got sick of our grass dying

      These are domestic rabbits, wild rabbits are built to live in the wild. Domestic rabbits are built to live in home or be adopted. (Sometimes they can be released into the wild and may die.) To answer your question.

    Awwww thank you HH :) My little backyard is my sanctuary! The bunnies love it and I love that it seems to be the perfect size for them to feel they've got a lot of space but not too much that I feel they're out of reach if something were to happen. Luckily we have a/c so when we're going to have a day hotter than 25C I've got it on. I'm sure your rabbits would find our weather freezing cold over here! These are great tips, but unfortunetly I can't take Rosie in our yard, because we treat it. :( I sometimes take her on our patio to get some fresh air, but I can't put her in the yard. Also our neighbors have at least 15 cats living outside.(They're barn cats, we live in the middle of nowhere.) The cats aren't rabbit friendly by any means. In fact one time a cat was trying to get Rosie when I brought her out and I kept shooing it away, and eventually my dog Jenny came in and chased it off. :)

    Hi. Where did you get those fun boxes? My brother has a bunny and is too afraid to let the bunny out in his back yard. It is a very small backyard and is fenced! He lives near Dallas Tx. and thinks an owl or some bird may grab it. He has wild rabbits that come in and out of his back yard also. I wish he would let his bunny get more exercise instead of being in his medium size cage. I would love to buy those boxes and give them to my brother so his bunny can get out of his cage and play indoors. Thanks for the video.

      Yes it is safe to use a leash. You can buy one at almost any pet store. Since my bunny can go threw my fence I use a leash.

    How do you transport the rabbits to and from the house? Mine get terrified when I put them in any sort of carrier. I'd also like to know how you collect them to bring them back in. I end up having to chase them in some way another and I know that's not going to be a positive experience for them.

    Is it okay to take a rabbit to a local park(with just grass) in my city, or would that be unsafe since its public and a lot of animals go there?

    • @BudgetBunny
      @BudgetBunny  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't recommend it as there is the chance of your rabbit escaping and parks are maintained by the city which means they are treated with chemicals, lawn fertilizers etc.

    I am getting a rabbit soon and won't be able to let it in the backyard so I am hoping I can leash train it but some people say it's a bad idea anyone know what to do?

      Flower Happy Rabbits are very happy to live in the house with you, you don't have to bring them outside. ☺️ That being said if you're planning on taking them out on a leash I recommend the harnesses that are more like a mesh vest (I believe superpet makes them). They are more comfortable and spread the support more evenly over the rabbits body. Please do exercise caution if you use them, I had a rabbit panic and while I tried to get him, managed to wiggle out of the harness. 😳

    Because I live in florida, we really don't have prey birds where we live. there is a lake about 2 minutes away from my house and i did see a falcon there only 3 times. But they come when its warmer. If we use a lawn mower to cut our grass (using gassoline) is it still safe for them?

    I really like your videos and I have outside angora rabbits. Could you do a video about what you should do if your rabbits start digging a warren? My rabbits have a very long tunnel but they haven't tried to dig up at all and I don't want to move their pen so they can't access the hole because I think they won't feel safe. The pen doesn't have a top so if they feel threatened they run down and hide.

    Hi?!? I have one lop bunny and he is free range permanently. His hutch door is always open so he can go in and out to eat his oats and sleep. I live in Australia so the temperatures get really high. I have 2 water storage tanks with an underneath area. When it gets quite hot he goes down there and is nice and cool. I shove an ice pack down there and some food. It gets to about 42 degrees where I live and he just goes in the shades of the area or the water tank base.the garden is also enclosed. Is he safe outside?

    Hiya, I have a question. In our garden we don't have any grass, and when I do get a rabbit, I'd really like to take it outdoors sometimes, there is a park near where I live with lots of grass. Could I take him there?

      Lily Smith just monitor how much grass they eat and if possible find out if their is chemicals on the grass.

    Tons of people have their rabbits free range. I have a friend who's rabbit has her entire apartment to live in. Rabbits are easily litter trained once spayed/neutered and can easily be trained to do lots of things like tricks! For us with the amount of space we have and so many pets it's just not feasible to have them free in the house all the time.
