Perhaps you could comment, would a Mosquito not just outrun fighters? I always believed you would just crank up the speed and go low to leave fighters struggling to keep up.
My best friend married a guy from Alta, Norway. Well...his family have a cabin at Kåfjord.... built on a concrete foundation for the defences covering the Tirpitz ( believe it was either an ammunition store or a gun emplacement)
Ive been watching GR for years. This was the best, most high suspense mission ive ever seen you guys do. Super well done!!
Funny, as soon as the Kola map is out, this mission can be played at the real locations
And when the Corsair is out and the Lanc mod too, you can do it with proper aircraft too.
Hilarious.
Cap’s takeoff. “suck, suck, suck. Come on. Easy, easy, easy. We did it!” Demonitised!!! 😂😂
oof
Dark Helmet approves though.
"Juuust don't look..." had me giggling. Cool mission, as always.
Important safety tip: watch out for the granite clouds.
ah
Yeah. It turns out, they bite!
Just did my instrument proficiency check yesterday (in actual). That descent into terrain will give me nightmares.
*descent
@elemar5 Are you meaning to correct @jimhayes2786? When you see "*descent," it usually means there is an error in the original commentors post, and you are pointing out the needed question. But unless I'm missing something, the OP spelled the word correctly and used it in the correct form. So, I am not sure what you are correcting if that is the case?
Yes you are missing something. The word edited beside the original comment. @@dustinfrey3067
@@elemar5 Yep thanks for the spelling correction internet!
@elemar5 I thought that was a possibility. Just trying to clarify. Thank you.
This was a fantastic mission & video. Hats off to Matrix and his mission making skills. This was truly a "nail-biter"!
It was a challenging and interesting scenario for both sides. Matrix is a very talented mission maker.
I remember my late father telling me that he saw the lancasters heading north for what transpired to be the raid on the Tirpitz then saw them returning several hours later.
They remain awesome planes to see overflying your location (of the two still able to fly, the British one does a flightover of a monument in my town every year, the monument is for another Lancaster shot down there)
Love the way that Chef(?) kept saying “I think if you just keep UNDER the clouds [next time]…” when everyone he’d led into the clouds this time had hit a mountain 😆
Fun fact, majority of conventional bombs used against the Tirpitz were only able to damage the superstructure and lightly armored equipment such as anti-aircraft guns on the Tirpitz, which is one of the reasons the tallboy bombs were designed.
Absolutely shat myself when you went into the mountain.
DCS is a horror movie... Good jump scare, just a week late from Halloween!
This one was a freaking nail biter!! Great flying by all hands, the visuals (or lack thereof) for the pilots on this one were absolutely insane, and I wholeheartedly agree with Super Cap, this map should be utilized more often; WOW!! In typical GR fashion, the mighty Matrix made this mission incredibly difficult even compared to the real-world mission it was inspired by!! I'm not gonna lie, i'm already anticipating the redo of this, round one was fantastic, and the Blues all but sealed the deal in spite of the odds and the wild terrain and weather!! Damn fine flying Grim Reapers!!!
Did anyone else cry out "Oh, bollocks" when Matrix planted it?
Yup, but I used a different term LOL
lol
By far the most interesting video I’ve ever seen on GR. Cap’s genuine fear brought across the true horror and challenges of these missions, bravo!
I knew you were going to fly into a mountain, but it still shocked me.
Came here expecting to see Tirpitz unalived by buffs, but heck, gr never ceases to surprise, and it's all contemporary stuff...
Felt like 633 Squadron, but in low visibility!
Cap, you should support The People's Mosquito charity - they are building the first new Mosquito airframe in the UK since the war. Colin Bell, one of the veterans associated with the project is 101 and was involved in the test dropping of Highball. One that he dropped was recovered and is at the Brooklands museum.
'oh my god a fucking mountain!' lol
Really liked the pre-mission brief Matrix!
Hi Cap and GR at all. In the synopsis, you are missing some Fleet Air Arm attacks on the ship. Not great damage was achieve in that attack for the Navy. Excelent mission
Seems cloud & mountains are Reapers kryptonite. That Matrix makes you really work for it. 😂
Cap, shut your window.
I could feel your struggle right through the screen on this one Cap,
"St Nazaire was subject to a raid by commandos . . ."
You could say that, yes. It was only the most daring raid of the entire war!
That was fun to watch. Live in Tromsø and I think the terrain wasn't too far off
Brilliant mission guys. The WW2 stuff always seems more exciting to watch, but the terrain and IMC made it super cool.
Grim reapers' instruction following capability on full display hahaha
Perfect tutorial?
OMG I actually jumped out of my seat when Cap crashed into the mountain!! 😮😮😮. Awesome mission Matrix!
Yes that was excellent 👏 please redo with the whole gang of GR with navigation crews and see if maybe there could be a sneaky British and American cruiser screen that finds the turpitz in the fog mystery mission 😀
Agreed
Hey cap! A interesting video idea would be to take a typically land based ground to air missle and strapping it to like a b-52 and seeing what insane ranges. Puld be therorehtically pulled off, such as strapping a patriot to said b-52 or strapping sa-10s to a tu-160 for the hell of it! Thanks for your time and efforts!
LOL. Capt, Aviate, Navigate, communicate. in that order Sir.
Ive never had Rhubarb pie.
You have never lived then. But if that was true how did you make that comment? Who knows?
@@clangerbasher Typically here rhubarb is in a rhubarb crumble which is definitely not a pie. Not disputing that your comment was the funniest joke I've ever seen of course!
@@giupiete6536 😃
Rhubarb pie is a great excuse to eat loads of vanilla ice-cream.@@clangerbasher
@@brians48now True.
If Chile is playing Norway, a hypothetical Cold War engagement in that region would be interesting. I feel like that era (and especially the Lead Sled) doesn't get enough love in these scenarios.
Cool
Brilliant stuff, but the MSA is good to know when operating in IMC.
Please have another go at this when we've got the Kola map!
Cap, I know you had a disagreement with a mountain😂 but you would have been even more dissapointed if you got to target just to realize you turned on the wing and belly stations but never fuzed your bombs😅
ah, erm...
I live for GR WW2 content
Awesome, thanks.
Matrix always brings the gravitas to a briefing.
"You can shoot bad guys down, you can't shoot mountains down."
Womp womp womp sums up the whole mission. lol but great job guys. That must’ve been extremely difficult.
Thank you all. Capt you are a great pilot stop putting yourself down Bro.!
This one was like watching Air Crash Investigations
Dam buster mission would be cool, I don't know if DCS incorporates the bomb.
th-cam.com/video/oN0jEDqlI2U/w-d-xo.html
@@grimreapers I have something to watch till the next video is released.
Yeah, I enjoyed the approximation of Operation Chastise, but DCS doesn't have the Upkeep mine, and didn't have Lancs. But the mission looked really hard using Mozzies. And they're quite a bit smaller than Lancs.
Then again, 617 squadron had about eight weeks of intensive training just for that one raid, and there's no way the good people at GR could simulate that.
I believe they did this already (in a Grim Reaper kind of way)
Poor chef he tried his best.
Definitely gotta do a redo boys.. get a new one!
Cap - that's how my Grandad actually died... Canadian Airforce in a Liberator bomber in Burma. Low cloud - hit a mountainside.
This is a got dam horror show! I LOVE IT! edit... I Just jumped so hard in my chair! IYKYK!
Nooo, have mercy
By the looks of it , you lot never been to Norway before :) . Took the raf 4 years to sink that ship. This could be a series
"I can't do it, I'm full MIL SIM", MOUNTAIN!
Really jolly unsporting to hide mountains in those clouds.
Hasina lowers the landing gear instead of opening the bomb bay doors. Hasina fires the gun instead of dropping the bombs. Hasina wastes an hour of out time. 🤣 Enjoyed it, best mission for a while.
That kind of mission would put gray hair on anyone's head.
Own up, who had the theme from '633 Squadron' going through their head during Hasina's doomed final run in?
Watch out for the moun.....oh never mind, Cap!
Cappy talking across the table.. lmao. iykyk
Dead men can't speak... = You're in trouble mates
Cap where is your navigator? And you left the flight plan on the table by the looks of things :D
Cap did a thing, do da do daa
Does DCS have a mil-sim map mode? It would add yet another level of realism and tension if you had to navigate manually without a magic all seeing map to tell you where you and everyone else is.
Says Deadman can't speak while he flew in a mountain 5 min before hh
How about modelling the bouncing bomb?
You miss those SA screens when you don't have them, don't you?
Capt, can you also do the RN Corsairs raid on this. it would seem us limeys tamed the Vought F4U Corsair for navy service first.
We learnt to trim the wing and keep the carrier in sight on the side whilst landing. The USA first rejected this beast as a navy fighter but the Brits learnt them how to handle this beast on the sea .Thanks for the USA giving us this machine.
As usual I don’t know why you persist in getting so close to each other you risk collision, & you’ve lost a man all ready I believe
No IFR certifications for Cap. Lol
Certainly not.
Lol
Way to lose the war guys!! Now I have to learn German!!
Is it possible to turn the engine volume down. I like the realism of being in the cockpit, but my ears are bleeding!
Yes BUT that's what it's like in a real plane. They are so loud that hearing is almost impossible.
My girlfriend asked me what’s the point in buying a vr when I have an Xbox. I should show her this video
I'm 24 minutes in, what's going on with Cap's elevator trim? Does it not have enough authority with that loadout? I can feel the pitch down force from my chair and it's pretty agonizing even if I'm not the one holding the stick for 450 miles. Curious that Matrix went nose down also.
I've always had trouble with elevator in Mossie.
You play one set of goodies vs one set of baddies ...in the real world would there be multiple missions taking place all at the same time distracting the defenders from the one single mission you were doing?
So, a re-run?
So, where can I find the other 10 operation rhubarb Videos? So far i have only found I and II
❤
"Disorientating" Decidedly British.
Is it me being wrong or are the vids (not saying the quality is less) having less human 'pilots' lately. Love the musquito btw is it a light bomber (obviously you are using it as one here) or a WW2 Attack plane. Meaning if you would give it its designation what would it be.
Is it just me, or is the ground details worse than the previous version? The sky/cloud details look better, but like the glaciers don't seem as detailed.
I suspect it's a non-detailed part of the map.
@grimreapers Cap, Beautiful Boys, thank you for the response. The video was legit, really, really good. I would also like to see a colab with GS and LongShot. You 3 are the only DCS channels I have found worth watching. You guys don't really create and run the same types of missions, but I'm sure there is something that you guys could do together.
I thought the mossie had better textures, it looks like am IL2 plane
It's probably the YT compression nailing it TBH.
@@grimreapers Yes, good point, thanks for your hard work
👍🙂
Norwegian mountain wins
Cap that was great flying in the clouds with the mountains. If DCS AI was at the same level of their clouds they would be making Bill Gates money hah.
If it’s that aggressive cap , why don’t u try another game ?
Never
🙂🙃😉
Hey, what are all these sheep doing up here..........
omg....Stop the whining!!! fly DON'T cry
I dont understand how spatial disorientation is so deadly. Cant you just keep your eye on the artificial horizon on the instrument panel. I mean…thats all I did when I was playing MS Flight Simulator 3.0 whenever it was a foggy day at Meigs Field. Easy Peezy🤷🏼♂️
Try the Mossi in DCS than you will understand 😂
The instruments are very basic with good amount of drift and inaccuracies
Quit your whining about instrument flying Cap.. ;-)
