Samsung Refrigerator Freezer Not Cooling Properly

  • How to troubleshoot a Samsung refrigerator problem.
I've owned the refrigerator for 2 years. Today, the freezer stopped working. The temperature reached 59 degrees F and power cooling had no effect after 2 hours. I unplugged the unit from the electrical outlet, plugged it back in, and turned on power freeze again.
While waiting for it to cool, I called A&E Factory Service since I purchased the extended warranty. A&E had my information and what I purchased in their computer system. The woman put me on hold before transferring me to Samsung support department. That was very odd because my warranty is with A&T, not Samsung. The Samsung politely said she has no record of the extended warranty and would charge me for a technician visit. Samsung did say if I unplug the unit and wait 30 seconds before plugging it back in, that will reset the onboard computer.
I left the power freeze on and checked back 2 hours later. The temperature dropped below 0 F and the contents in the freezer started to harden.
It sucks that this fairly new top of the line Samsung refrigerator failed after 2 years.
I'll keep you posted on future developments.

So awesome, thank you. Rebooted as suggested, then when the freezer didn't appear to be working even though the fridge was, I adjusted the set temp for the freezer and it kicked in as well. It's been 45C/ 113F here today, not the right time to lose a fridge. Great share.

I moved into a house with a Samsung refrigerator in it. It looked way fancier than anything I've ever used. I had high hopes that this new fancy refrigerator was going to be amazing. Not even close. This is the worse refrigerator I've ever come into contact with. Everything stays "kinda" cool, but not cold. Milk is never cold like I've had my whole life. Any liquid for that matter isn't real cold. Ice maker sucks. We have to make our own ice in the freezer section bc the ice maker is so bad. But guess what, the freezer sucks too. It takes ice trays nearly 14 hours to freeze. All of the temp settings show it to be working properly. After trying to debunk this thing by reading articles or watching videos I've come to the conclusion this new age fridge is garbage. No wonder the previous homeowners left their brand new refrigerator behind.

My Fridge/Freezer is from 2007 model RS2545SH. Of course it stoped working when the outdoor temp was 115. (maybe we left the freezer door open all night?, maybe, but everyone is very quiet...). We played with it the whole day and nothing. At one point we thought we had it working cause the freezer temp stoped blinking. at the end of the second day we confirmed it was not. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I did everything you said (waited for two minutes, just in case) and everything is working again. Sooo happy. 😃

We have a Samsung French Door counter depth refrigerator....so it was not inexpensive. It just sporadically stops working properly. Have to unplug, then plug back in. And, do the reset on the screen. We put it on power cool and then it starts working again. It happens at least once every six months. Ridiculous piece of junk!!! Our 16 year old KitchenAid is still working fine down in the basement. Never buy a Samsung product!!!

Hi, a huge thank you so much for doing this video. I have an older version rhs1 and my problem was exactly the same. I did exactly what you did in the video but turned the power freeze off after 3 hrs because I needed to go to bed. I fully expected the contents of the freezer ruined and would need to call out the engineer but to my surprise the freezer had reset itself and the contents of the freezer was frozen. One very grateful viewer.

I have the Samsung with the freezer drawer and cool zone 3rd drawer but generally the same control panel. Temp was set to 0 but reading -25 (that's negative 25). Turns out the temp sensor is mounted in the top of the freezer box just above a drawer that rolls out over the larger freezer compartment. The sensor got ripped out and I found it in the bottom of the freezer. Spliced the wires back together and now getting an accurate reading. It appears the control panel thought the freezer was maintaining a cold enough temp and shut itself down while in reality it was getting warmer and warmer. No more tall ice cream cartons going in that top drawer now! I found all your troubleshooting helpful. I needed to do a 5 minute unplug to get the control panel reset as 30 seconds didn't do it.

If you want the world's worst customer service and to deal with a company who will do anything to avoid standing by their warrantee, then buy a Samsung.
The following email to Samsung summarizes my situation-
"On May 16 our four year old side by side fridge stopped working. We have been EXTREMELY frustrated with your customer support.
We were first told Williamston TV in Farmingdale, NY would be calling us to set up an appointment. After not receiving a call from them, I called their center and they informed me they do not work on appliances. I contacted Samsung again and was given Rod's in Riverhead, NY. Someone was suppose to come out today between 9 and 10 am - but no one from their center ever answered their phone. My husband ended up loosing a days work because he took off to be home for the repair man. When I googled that company, their average review received 1 out of 5 stars (with many references of no one answering their phone and people never showing up to their house). I then called Samsung AGAIN and after 1/2 hour the customer service woman told us those were the only 2 centers on Long Island. Finally she told us we could get our own diagnostic and email it to your company (copy was attached)[Local Appliance company] , "Recommended new refrigerator. Unit has bad evaporated coil and cover."According to the extended warrantee from your website this is covered under the 5 YEAR PARTS AND LABOR ( copy was attached)
In addition to the inconvenience , we have lost several hundred dollars in spoiled food,my husband losing a day of work, and a freezer full of pumped breastmilk for my 3 month old. We need to have a response and action done by your company immediately as we are continuing to have to go to the store to get ice to store my son's milk and keep my one and half year old son's medicine.
**Samsung's email response - We are sorry to hear about your response, we will dispatch Williamston TV repair (note- this is exactly the company I mentioned that does not work on appliances
***Samsung Executive Customer Service Phone Response- We need to wait for Samsung to look over and evaluate their contract with Rod's. If they decide Rod's is not responsive then they will put our claim through an evaluation to see if they will in fact accept the local appliance diagnostic and allow them to do the repair... a process which could take two weeks to get an approval
Shame on you Samsung! Stop telling me "I will do everything to help you" and "I am sorry to hear you are experiencing problems." You obviously do not care about your customers or your product!

We've had nothing but trouble with all of our Samsung appliances. We bought a new space saver fridge 4 years ago and it's stopped working over and over- currently I've got towels around it because the freezer is at 52...I'll try your fix- Heads Up...the Samsung washer that we bought 5 years ago started rusting on the inside in two places- we've lightly sanded and applied appliance paint only to have it rust again within a month...who makes a washing machine that rusts on the inside where there is always water??? Omg! My samsung french door fridge also broke down after 2 years! It was still under warranty, so they changed the parts. But guess what? It broke down again after 2 years, and on Christmas day no less! I didn't get an extended warranty because I thought, this being an EXPENSIVE fridge, it would be sturdy. Boy, was I wrong! I'm going to try what you did. If that doesn't work, then I guess I'm buying a new fridge.

I tried what you did by Samsung’s tech instructions with unplug/plug back. Did power freeze and power cool. Fridge side had no issues only freezer. After 5 hours temp on freezer is at 41•F. Still not freezing. Called them again and like always “ appliance is out of warranty”. Now have to call a tech to see how much they going to charge me to troubleshoot this “lemon”. Lost a lot of $$ on my food going bad. Not a happy person with Samsung. Never again will I purchase anything related to them. They know the problems with their appliances and won’t do a darn thing to fix after warranty expires even though they know it’s their fault. 😡😡😡😡😡

    • @salvadorreyes1917
      @salvadorreyes1917 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Follow up to yesterday’s issue with fridge. Got a quote from their tech and they were charging me $440 to fix it, that’s without diagnosing the issue properly. Service call $130. I was not going to spend more money on it. I decided to reset computer again by unplugging it and waited 10 mins instead of 1min then plugged it again. Temp was at 34•, did the power freeze but did a couple of more steps. Noticed ice maker was on and energy saver also on( my ice maker is not connected). Turned both off. Left to work at 1pm came back at 11:30pm. Opened the freezer door and there was ice on the tray from my melted ice bag. I am not sure what fixed the problem but I am happy. Hopefully tomorrow still the same.

I love Samsung products and had a whole matching set but my freezer started to unthaw everything. I called them and there is actually an easy fix if you have the blue bars scrolling on your temp control area. You have to unplug for a min then once plugged back in hold down on the freezer temp button and I think but not sure the ice button.( It has been 2 yrs since i had to reset it.) It still runs to this day and it is 7 yrs old now. But as much as I love Samsung products and would love one of the new ones that you can hook to wifi, I will never buy a fridge again. Dont want to go through that hassle again. Those and whirlpool are not good choices as I was told by an appliance store.

To those that complain about this unit .
Think if you have put this unit under stress like jamming the door slightly open and letting moisture in air condensate and freeze blocking the cold air flow over the condenser fine or other bad practices.
All issues are related to the unit freezing and blocking air flow.
If you go to another brand it will do the same because it is you the owner problem.
Reading all these help ideas I think the easy way switch power off get rid of all food take out shelf’s put towel in bottom to soak defrosting water and leave until no more water comes out.. say 2 day. Switch on it will revert back to factory setting and work. Try never to alter the settings .

Mine is still cooling but it's not making the items solid just cold enough to get freezing water ice. This is after 6 years of working this Samsung fridge it has no temperature and it has a ice maker which is not used and has that blue thing on the freezer part just to describe what type of fridge I have. It's also a 2 door one freezer and below it the normal thing, simple. Make sure if your model is also not cooling to move the back and see if it has a vent mine was located on the bottom left corner and was heavily dusty. Cleaned it all off easily thankfully was dry but thick and not the watery kind then unplugged it for a minute. I dunno if I am seeing things but my ice tray had some freezing going on so just to be sure I unplugged it for 5 minutes and we'll see how it goes. The only other thing I haven't tried is to defrost which setting I don't have but I do have something called power cool but can't figure out how to get to it with the stoopid buttons at the moment.

I had a similar experience with an RSG5 SAMSUNG FRIDGE in Italy. The -18C section was not keeping the temperature.
After 4 months and 280 USD spent in spare parts and work , the repair center surrendered and proposed a replacement of the fridge with a similar one but at a price higher than the market price I found on internet!
That is oltragious, the repair center is unable to repair a simple failure on the fridge, this will be a damage for the environment and finally THE REPUTATION OF SAMSUNG IS FALLING BELOW MY HEELS. Instead of apologizing and offering a free substitution (after what I already paid) they try to make profit from their failures!! The tipycal life of a fridge should be at least 20years, not 5.
I hope this policy of Samsung will change soon. In the meantime I will better check the reputation of a producer before buying something that should last years.

Same situation with LG Fridges. Be aware with that new tecnology. LG Fridge model now they have a supposed high efficiency compressor called linear compressor; they get deffective only for take a look on them (short words lifetime is between 4-5 years) and worst thing the cost of repair is around 700-1000 dollars; so customer will prefer a new fridge instead repair it
Better to stay away of TV Brands Fridge and kept the conventional ones like Kenmore, Whirlpool, or White Westinghouse its my suggestion. Good luck

Fix five-year-old Samsung RFG237aars freezer is not cooling. 1. Run diagnosis to make sure display 8888. 2. unplug the power cord and remove the back panel that locates the bottom of the back refrig. 3. Clean the drain tube right or left that connects the freezer. you need a flashlight to look at some places that block the airflow by using a vacuum. Remove excess water in the drain pan. 4. Remove the top drawer in the freezer section. It seems that block the cool air flow because Samsung is using a small fan motor. So far, the thermometer read the same temperature as display temp -4. not 30 degrees anymore.

Power freeze and power cool are used for the fridge to reach its temperature faster. I used it in the first day when I bought it. Sooner to cools down, sooner I can move groceries into it.

    • @sgarcata
      @sgarcata 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm with you there... have had nothing but trouble with the 2 kitchen appliances I have... and what really sucks is that there is NO authorized Samsung repair person/company within 100 miles of where I live. I wouldn't even buy a small electronic device from them. Their QA sucks; their customer service sucks; their devices suck. Every few years I have to manually defrost the refrigerator with a heat gun because "something" is broken. This was an expensive refrigerator and I've had it for 5 years and had repair people out 3 times so far. It is no longer under warranty so now the cost is on me. Fortunately the latest repair person showed me how to handle it myself. I thought I was going to have to replace it and since I am selling my house I planned to buy a used fridge off Craig's list... guess what? there were 2 nearly new fridges...both Samsung! No thanks!
Oh... nearly forgot to mention... after 2 years the paint started peeling/chipping off the handles... since I'm selling the house and need everything to look spiffy, I tried to order new ones... get this: $100 EACH!! I swallowed and ordered them; they didn't fit even though I checked the part number ahead of time. What a crock of sh!t Samsung products are!!!

Now I did speak to Samsung customer support & they recommended switching of the fridge for 1/2hr to 1 hour to reset it. The idea being to let the interior temperature rise to somehow reset the thermostat (my food...ahhhh), then switch back on. Will keep u all posted...
I got very upset with the current state of engineering & manufacturing practices, i.e. PLANNED OBSOLESCENCE. You know in the New York fire department they have an incandescent lamp that is 100 hundred years old and counting. Todays lamps are design by engineers who have to consciously withdraw operational life efficiency from the lamps they design. So much for capitalism being the best in terms of efficiency, I call BS(bad science).
