This is the first video I’ve watched on this channel. It could have been 2 hours long and it would have only made me happier.
The amount of effort to make this video is not lost on me so a very sincere thank you!

I was at the range this morning at sunrise, shooting my custom Ruger 10/22. The redbirds were chirping in the trees behind me. I enjoy your videos, and I like that you appreciate the sounds of nature, and the smell of gunpowder. Life is beautiful.

Thank you for the video! This is one of the best tuner videos I have found. Specially since I've been looking at one of these Harrells' for my Anschutz.
Considering the price and availability of good ammo now days. Seems like a tuner is a requirement in order to have a decent day at the range (practice and fun) and avoid the overwhelming frustration, thus shooting worse as the days goes and frustration mounts, ;-).
Makes me think I can use my giant case of Federal Gold Medal for practice and save the Tenex and Center-X for actual competitions. Once I get the settings recorded for each I can just readjust, verify and have fun. Without going bankrupt just practicing. I'll save the high end ammo for competition.

Try the Hopewell method to tune. You are using an AR style tuner and not the true rimfire tuner. Although that will work it needs to be adjusted with a modified Hopewell method. This style tuner has 10 increments per revolution where the true rimfire has 25 increments per revolution. I have this style tuner on AR's and use the Harrell and J&L rimfire tuners on all the rimfires. Yes they help but you will need to adjust for change in ammo brands and velocities.
Hopewell method is 10 shots into one target with 2 shots per revolution. Target 1 will be from 0 to 040, target 2 will be 040 to 080, target 3 will be 80 - 120 and target 4 will be 120 to 160. Yes you can get 160 even though not marked you can estimate. Now go back and look at your targets and select the smallest vertical stringing. Readjust the tuner to the lowest setting of that target group and start with 5 round groups adjust the tuner one turn and move targets for another 5 rounds until you get to the highest tuner settings for the selected group. Now look at the targets again and select the tightest group. Move to that setting and fire 5 shot group. Rotate 1/2 turn either direction and shoot another group at a fresh target. Move tuner 1/2 turn in the opposite direction from start setting and fire another 5 round group. Look at targets again and see which one is tightest group. Now you can decrease increments by 1/2 and continue tuning till you get the best possible shot group. I have found 1 increment can change the POI enough to throw you into a tizzy. Nice thing about this style tuner is you can go to minute adjustments where Harrells rimfire tuner stops you on a hard increment due to the detent.
End result is if your rifle is setup properly the tuners will increase accuracy buy finding the barrel node point at the end. Please note that tuners do not compensate for lateral stringing. That is a shooter problem. When tuning you need to be the only one tuning. No help, no changing shooters and constant atmospheric conditions.

Thank you sir. outstanding video. I just started playing with a .22 after plinking for years. I purchased the Bergara BMR carbon and mounted an Arkin EP 5 on it. I'm shooting 1/2 inch and better at 50 yards. I just put a Timmy hit trigger in and I am considering a Harrel an EC tuner. My sons are beginning to compete. I doubt I get into competition, but I can go out and shoot with now and then. God Bless and keep the videos coming.

I have found that if you weigh your shells and get them as close as possible to the same weight that it reduces the flyer by quite a bit. You can use any weight system because you are not concern about the weight but getting them with in the same weight. Hope that works for you. Thanks a lot for the videos that you put up here I enjoy them a lot.

Hi Bob, you are on the right track weighing your ammo. If you wish to improve your skills and understanding further. As a recommendation and hint, read into the effects of DA (Density Altitude) and the effect altitude and temperature have on the projectile. Good luck and have fun : )

I performed this same test with a tuner I made on my lathe. The test rifle was a bone stock Savage FVSR that isn't really accurate to begin with and the short barrel didn't respond to the tuner very well. To say the least it was exasperating but in a fun way. I found I could make the rifle shoot worse more easily than better by making coarse adjustments like you did. I found a sweet spot and went back to it and pulled off a couple of one hole groups with some Wolf Match ammo but ran out of it and have never played with the tuner anymore. Then I found out that particular Wolf ammo isn't made also and I primarily shoot high velocity in the Savage anyway now for varmints and occasional long range steel targets. I wouldn't mind trying a better tuner on my 513 since it's threaded I regret now cutting the barrel back on it when I had it threaded I believe it was more accurate at it's full length.

  • @stuartbrown9307

Yup may want to try a more consistent ammo. Tuning does not change with ammo brand, as long as bullet velocities are close. I enjoy your videos.

  • @dave-767
    @dave-767 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

i heard that barrel tuners can work pretty good but you still have to have ammo that is consistent enough to make it work. Need a good ammo that maybe the barrel doesnt like that still has good SDs and ES and can probably bring the groups tighter

It was a pleasure to watch this intelligent presentation, though I must agree with your wife; all those groups are terrible considering the pricey equipment you employed. Perhaps it would be prudent to try a different brand of ammo. I would like to see a follow-up to this, if you do.

Great video , suggestion ......CZs are notoriously good at showing the effects of Rim Thickness and pressures .....it’s hard to see effects of tuning if Ammo has random pressures . Your left hand and left finger keep moving ... as well as your cheek position , I can tell by the space between the brim of your hat and the scope eyepiece during the shoot. I’m more worried about pressures on the Stock. Overall these are some of the most informative on the net. Try using a Laser to see your wobble and dry fire ...

with my 223 20" remington barrels I need to shoot 7 times, full revolutions everytime and I will find at least ONE good node to set Harrels tuner at.
I have used all 16 revolutions technically 17 if you start at 0 and have found TWO and sometimes THREE good nodes so seven revolutions works just fine starting at 0
with a Harrels tuner my best five shot groups without and with have been reduced from 5/8" to 3/8" @ 100 yds.

Hi Harrell I notice that you seemed to have trouble seeing through your scope with the safety glasses on, they are not a good thing to use when shooting as they tend to magnifier and distort the image that you see. We found this was apparent when shooting at the ranges here in Australia try using your ordinary glasses if you have them and you will have better groups.
