    BYD has the Seal U, which would probably be the one to compete with EV5

    • @gregb1599

      Lol, that Seal U will not compete! It is built on a Phev platform. It's an insult to even call it a Seal as it has nothing in common with the Seal other than its name!

    • @Lifecoach7Ra
      @Lifecoach7Ra 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am totally disappointed that BYD called their new SUV also Seal because customers have high expectations and get only like on a cheaper Kia e-Niro or Hyundai Kona a PHEV-platform unlike the ‚original‘ SEAL. That for me is cheating on naive customers not knowing about the differences.

    • @MitchPhillips

    Would love any Kia EV at this point but in Canada, they are STILL in low supply. Even the EV6 is still hard to come by and I don't see many on the streets. Wait time at dealers is still a year out for a build to order. I don't consider KIA EVs as a realistic option for me for at least 2 to 3 years just because of the terrible supply issues here. Unfortunate. When this EV5 gets launched here, I'm guessing it will be worse because of the popularity of the form factor/price. The KIA/Hyundai dealerships here are also some of the worst sales tactics of all the brands from my experience. Unfortunate we still have to deal with dealerships when buying non Tesla's.

    • @GaborBona
      @GaborBona 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Absolutely agree. Kia / Hyundai ignorance of the Canadian market is something that boggles the mind. At the end of 2023 they even throttled sales in all dealerships. They really don't like Canadian dollars.

    Hi Sam,
    As you said the EV5 will be sourced from China. but you said it will price against BYD model Y. In this case, the price will be 50 to 60 percent more expensive in Australia.
    The lower range version in China converted to AUS dollars is around 40K.
    Take BYD seal as a comparison, the lower range EV5 is cheaper than lower spec Seal in China.
    The BYD seal starts at 48K in Australia. SHould the Kia EV5 start from somewhere there?
    Any thought?

China has the largest EV market, what if they retaliate and make foreign investors in China pay the deferential in local taxes to Chinese government. I'm wary of anything from Hyundai/Kia. Our Kona electric was a hand grenade and we had to get rid of it at a loss after only 25k kms. The main battery was replaced, the traction motor bearings failed and the motor was replaced, the reduction gearbox was falling apart and was replaced. The 12 volt aux battery caused the vehicle to die on us 6 times over 12 months before Hyundai realised the battery was faulty. I would wait a year or more before buying any new Kia/ Hyundai to see if they've screwed anything up in the engineering. Even then I'd be hesitant when there much more reliable EV makers out there. They do look good though.

    Hmnn...Kia has an opportunity to snaffle a big share of the Subaru (Outback) market with this and at the same time thoroughly cripple sales of the Solterra if they give the EV5 more than 200mm of ground clearance and good wheel articulation. With more than double the range of the Solterra plus superior charging speeds at a lower price, the Kia also will have better cabin ergonomics. I'd certainly consider the EV5 ahead of a Y Juniper, on the basis of quality of finish alone, but in the end, I'd have to compare the two very closely.

    I don't understand the love affair with the little box and big box, high drag, higher height, vehicle. I guess I've always followed the high efficiency form following function idea. That means low drag, lower height, Far Better Safety (yes they are), better handling, better performance vehicle.
    Then again, we have this faulty perception from people, who think that because they are in a vehicle that looks like a mini truck, that somehow they are going to be safer and upmarket. I blame the Range Rover. 😊

      1000km range would make the car much heavier due to bigger battery size and not to mention cost. Manufacturer prefer to sell standard 600km than 1000km without raising the price. Even if the density improves manufacturer still prefer to sell 600km range and lower down the price so more can buy, UNLESS 1000km becomes a new standard for car maker. By then people will use another reason to wait for a 2000km range😂😂😂

      @@satay8167 I think this car is out of reach for most people in Portugal anyway. Salarys in Portugal : The “1,000 to 2,499.9 euros” bracket represented 27.8% of workers, while in the next category (between 2,500 and 4,999.99 euros) there were 4.2%, with only 0.7% having a base salary monthly over 5,000 euros . I would say to afford a 72000 euro car, you need to make atleast 5000 euros a month, so 0.7% of the people with an income.

    The reason why Tesla remains on top and will remain on top for the time to come is that they’re charging network is second to none. Every single other manufacturer may be able to easily make better cars than Tesla, but they all suffer from the exact same problem: The charging networks that they rely on are poor, unpredictable, and unreliable.

    In America KIa sold 800,000 cars Tesla only 650,000. Kia has increased sakes 400% whilst Teslas growth continued its slide to half that of 2021 to 20% it also lost 30% of its market share to competitors. In good news BYD is the number one electric car maker now surpassing telsa in BEVs it also does hybrids. Vinfast is building a factory in America too good on them . BYD is building a factory in Europe good on them . Except for China no one is going to sell well there Tesla only does like 250,000 nothing . ford sell 1.9 million cars alone in the American market which is more than Tesla does globally . Toyota does 1.96 million into the American market 3 times more than Tesla does and that’s it biggest market . Kia sells 200,000 cars more than Tesla in its own market. Tesla moving forward only expects growth of 2.5% a year in Europe alone. Chinas market is saturated and volumes / demand has dropped enormously since 2020 hence Chinese car makers are pushing out globally to get sales, they haven’t increased their volumes Still making over 70% ice but new EVs on the block all the time watch Geely they have some geat stuff coming and their Volvo EVs sell like hot cakes there everywhere

      Geez, 😂 the slant is hilarious. Kia didn't sell 800k EVs. The EV6 while not bad has issues with software. Charging on road trips without NACS is tough. The list goes on and it's not a bad first try. Tesla grew its market share and others sold vehicles too. Model Y isn't he best selling car worldwide for nothing. The EV 5 in the US without NACS, without the rebate will be near an impossible sell

    I would add Kia to one of the company to disrupt the US, too.
    For all those racists and political extremists, Kia cars have spectacular reviews and spectacular reliability. Chinese cars are not generally imported to the US, so political extremists have largely aligned with the EV issue and the Chinese car issue. But Kia/Hyundai will change all that.
