I've been using the lever-nuts for about two years now and they make it much easier to wire your layout. Found them on Amazon.

This company (Cambells wiring) makes a "T" like this. I run the main through the "T" and then I can take a secondary off of the main. They work great!!! It's the same as what you see in the video but I can take the track feeder wire off of the base leg of the "T"...

As a massive fan of the Union Pacific railroad I've gotten back into the hobby within the last year. I am 24 years old so relatively young for a model railroader but Daryl's videos and layout have very much excited and inspired me to continue working towards my own layout goals. Though they are much smaller than Daryl's.

Campbell founds something very neat, I didn't know about these Wago with the flips, that would help a lot.

Cool layout! It’s funny, I JUST saw this on TH-cam. I think I came across an operating session too. It’s definitely more akin to Ken’s layout with so much runby-scenery, but you’d have to be a fool to not see the work and expertise put into it.

I have learned to NOT trust Wago type connectors for the simple reason that they require breaking the continuity of your power main. I have gone to Scothlok suitcase connectors for all my drops to the rails as they leave the power line solid. Once you learn the trick of feeding your drop line in - unstripped, by the way - until you feel a slight click, you've got 'em mastered. One drawback is that once on, they're there for good.

Those Wago connectors are a quality product. Beware of cheap imitations though.

You went from one long unbroken power wire to a power wire with over a hundred broken connections. The power loss should be considered. Yanking on the wire to see if it comes out of the connector has no barring on resistance values. Each broken connection will add a measurable amount of resistance and power loss to your system.

I love the hobby, but things have changed over the years? N scale started out with ALL of the usual makes having "Rapido style couplers mounted on the bogies (or trucks), on both sides of the World .. No matter what you bought, it would run together? Commonality was a great asset for modellers..
The changes made in time, to Kadee style and body mounted couplers, by the U.S. manufacturers, has been a definite improvement... But for "long term" modellers it has caused a few difficulties running "old & new" rolling stock and locos together? If the curves are not very large radius, the overhang on different body mount couplers can cause derailments? Even on a common crossover between tracks, it is a problem with smaller radius turnouts?
If you model "N" scale on the other side of the Atlantic, there are many manufacturers who still supply truck mounted Rapido couplers.. These however, are not usually on American style locos or rolling stock?
The European layouts are often designed for small spaces, and therefore frequently have smaller radius curvature, while U.S. modellers have often taken advantage of the small "N" scale, to create large vista's of accurate landscaping with broad curvature?
What a pity that manufacturers no longer seem to cater to both camps? For a while there, LifeLike sold locos with a choice of couplers in the box? But alas, that practice has disappeared?
All in all, it is a great hobby.. But nowadays, you need to only buy what suits your needs? The day of "one size fits all" in "N"scale, have (unfortunately) gone ???

Wago’s are awesome, except that they are all one sided. I’d love them a lot more if they were double ended. I’m on the west side out on the east for instance.

Suit case connectors in the long term are crap Campbell. Sorry but solder connectors are much more reliable.

wago's are garbage and I do not allow them on any jobs I am doing.. when we encounter them in existing work they are removed for safety and so they do not become a liability issue down the road getting blamed for installing them if a fire or other issue happens. In a matter of years they loose their tension and resistance grows till they fail. They just don't hold at all when wires are stuffed back into a box and tension from the wires is applied all the time to a wago, and its quite common to start pulling wires out of a junction box and wago's will just easily slip off. On a layout yes that might be an ok spot for them,, but on 120 and above with real world age, vibration, current loads, etc, they really need to be outlawed. Wago's were invented for the fly by night contractors who won't be around to face the consequences.
