  • Sasha Waybright is a beloved character by many people in the Amphibia community. Although, I don't necessarily like her as much as others, for a certain reason...

Sasha is a fantastic character, she hasn't had the same number of episodes as Anne and the plantar but her redemption arc was decent and her development as a character has been very good compared to other characters, she fulfilled her role as a villain well and saved the protagonist multiple times. She may not be as good a character as Anne but she's one of the best

I agree that her redemption arc was decent, though I do wish and feel like it could've been done much better. It wasn't terrible, it was serviceable and it was fine - it just kinda felt like the writers took the easy route with her in S3

I think Sasha has honestly the most *fun* personality out of any character in this show. Not funny, fun. She is the stereotypical Californian blonde that's a control freak and the de facto main villain of most of the story and yet her personality alone forces you to love her anyway. You don't really laugh when she says "Hey, Girlfriend", but you can't really help but to smile xD. Because she is having the time of her life with no care in the world and we viewers are just lucky enough to be along for the ride. I think it's actually quite incredible how well the writers sold her to us. If the writers hadn't done an amazing job making her *fun,* she could've easily come off as an annoying and entitled brat. What I don't like about her is that she just completely loses her personality after her redemption arc, which just added to how boring season 3B was as you mentioned. She had to be redeemed at some point, but I still think she could've kept her *fun* side.

Sasha Elizabeth Waybright is my favorite of the calamity trio. I love that she's strong and brave. I especially like that despite the dark edge to her character, Sasha does care. Sasha is the member of the calamity trio that I wish we got to know her backstory properly in the series. It is only hinted in the Christmas episode in season 3 why Sasha is so manipulative and controlling. It is implied that Sasha comes from a divorced family, which would definitely explain why she's rebellious, controlling, and manipulative before she comes to Amphibia, as well as her anger issues. Sometimes in fiction and in reality, when children are put in situations outside their control, they try extra hard to control things that really matter to them. The fact that Sasha tried so hard to control her friendship with Anne and Marcy, only shows how much they mean to her. If anything, it comes across that Sasha needed her friendship with Anne and Marcy more than they did. I also loved Sasha and Grime's relationship. For better or worse, Sasha and Grime needed each other, and helped each other to better themselves. Not to mention that Grime remains the only person close to Sasha who she didn't push away or who didn't turn their back on her, which only shows how close Sasha and Grime are as friends, and possibly family. The main cause for Sasha's change of character is that before Amphibia, she never really cared about the consequences of her actions, but when the consequences of her actions affected those she cared about in Amphibia, Sasha finally allowed herself to actually take responsibility for her actions, which led to her trying to make things right. I like that about Sasha's character. At the earliest we see her, Sasha had the mentality of wanting to be a hero and protecting others, and I am glad she was ultimately able to do so in her time in Amphibia. That is why she is my favorite ❤ 💖

As someone whose favourite character is Sasha, I think people, or just me, enjoy a "villian" type character redeeming themselves over the course of the story with multiple moments of "screw ups" or continuous acts of unheroic. To empower my point, I believe if Andrias were to be "good" right before killing Marcy, the fandom would have the same type of favouritism for him. On another point, and this is my opinion, I tend to find the jokes or funny moments more enjoyable when they come from a character that has been depicted as "serious" or "mad", which Grimes is also a part of.

I personally think that Sasha deserved better writing and backstory. She was willing on multiple occasions to not return to Earth and stay in amphibia. It makes sense that grimes was her only friend, but she had a family??? A family that is never mentioned nor shown so we don’t know what her actual motives from doing so are.

Honestly I’d give to have Sasha her own spin off series so we’d be able to give her time in Amphibia and her redemption (her time in Amphibia and Wartwood during Turning Point)
Also Her and Ivy should have gotten an episode together.

I feel people expect way too much of Marcy and Sasha as 13 year-old girls, honestly. I'm always scrolling through comments saying, "Well Marcy trapped them in there on purpose, she shouldn't be forgiven so easily" and "Sasha was controlling and a toxic friend, she shouldn't be forgiven so easily". Marcy had absolutely NO idea a magical jewelry box would actually transport them to another dimension, that's a straight-up fairy tale, so her friends' "HOW COULD YOU!!!" rage at her always struck me as so stupid. Like neither of them would've believed her if she'd told them, and chances are they would've wanted to try it too just to laugh about it. With Sasha, the two of them are so passive to the point where Sasha has taken it upon herself to be their protector. In her head, she can't 'protect' them if they step out of line or disobey her. It's the exact kind of a thinking a 13 year-old would have. She doesn't understand the differences yet between 'protective' and 'controlling'.
TL:DR, I never thought Marcy OR Sasha needed a 'redemption arc'. They just need to get older and learn those lessons naturally along the way. Sasha has no chill because she's a natural protector and doesn't allow herself to have chill.

Regarding her lack of a "bubbly personality", I think it's well tied with her bossy attitude; if the show was a bit more explicit in her house life back in LA, it would make sense easily. But, since it was just hinted a few times, I'd say that she takes her interpersonal relationships quite seriously. She needs to do things "right" for her loved ones because she thinks, if she fails to do so, they will drift away. At the end of "Reunion", she realized one part of her mistakes when handling her relationship with Anne, but the fear of losing her friendship (and Marcy's) drowned the importance of the other part, which is the importance of treating them as equals, because they love her and won't stray away from her that easily. Which she finally realized at the beginning of S3A. From there, she had to deal with the whole truth and wait for an eventual (although unlikely) reconciliation with her friends.
I feel we were owed a few more flashbacks where it was showcased the beginning of Sasha's bossiness towards her closest friends and how she dealt with the organisation of the Rebellion without defaulting to her old ways.

To me Sasha Elisabeth Waybright is/was the biggest reason why I wanted to finish Amphibia the most cause In season 2 She started to gain more of my attention and wanted to see more of her struggle with her flaws and her willpower to survive. Personally i related to her more than Marcy in my opinion. While my complaints about season 3 aside I enjoyed seeing her redemption in Season 3 and honestly I'd say she'd need a spin off or comic series depicting her time in Amphibia especially after Turning Point, which is why I had to satisfy myself with fanfics as the closest thing to getting that.
I really wished we had more episodes of her in the first half of Season 3, getting more into her head about after the events of True Colors and Marcy. And if Matt could've given more light to her troubled family history on the show and being a child of divorce People would have easier time understanding why Sasha is the was she is. Plus her pessimism and sarcasm towards other characters seemed to ground me mopre to her character.
I really enjoy that despite the dark edge to her character she genuinely does care about others Anne and Marcy. To me when characters who are more "serious", "edgy" or more prone to anger show moments of vulnerabilty and warmth it's much more endearing to me. Fair points. I personally find Sasha very enjoyable to watch solely because of her pessimism and sarcasm. Anne and Marcy both stand on their own as the quirky, self-reliant type. But Sasha’s strength is his well she works off other characters. Solo episodes with Sasha don’t work as well because she has no one to bounce off of, no goofball to her straight man. (It’s why I wasn’t a fan of turning point) This doesn’t make her dynamic less than the others, just different.

I am honestly sorry to say that she is my favorite character sometimes since her character is far below Anne and Marcy and that hurts, you know, I feel that sasha waybright needs a SPINOFF OR her own series so that she has a character improvement and also that she is no longer hated by you and the fandom I hope matt gives him his own Villain (I hope it's The GIANT MONSTER TOAD from the intro and prophecy) and I developed it in a better way (much like the green goblin with tom's spiderman).
because I really don't want all the fans to hate her in the future but I also want her to improve as a character and stand out in a spectacular way and let's say she's finally a great character.
I'm sorry if you hate it or don't like it so much I respect it I also understand that it wasn't a big deal and as I said I hope they give her her own series to redeem her and correct her character can you imagine something like this:
Sasha is trapped in the world of dreams by something unknown, she doesn't know what is happening until she hears an evil laugh and is scared when she recognizes it.
CALAMITY: Hello sasha It is an honor.
Sasha: impossible how did you come back YOU WERE DEAD.
CALAMITY: sometimes you are surprised by what can come back to you hahahaha besides you and I have pending things and we promised to be friends until the end and now it's time to play best friend.
that would be all good video and as i said i hope sasha has a character save to finally be loved. But tell me what do you think, do you think sasha is fine or is there no repair in her? and you want to hear my theory of calamity. see you bye bye.

      @WCapi ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@roo1014 She is not the worst but the best much less. The first few chapters she appeared were very good but she only got Anne in trouble, she was a bit selfish in her own way. I feel that some of her episodes were filler since Marcy did not evolve as a character one bit, for example "Marcy and Maddie" was a good episode but it was useless since they did not speak to each other again, I would have preferred an episode of Sasha with Ivy or Polly. More than helping Anne, she was helping Andrias, I know she didn't know anything about Andrias's true plan but she still accepted regardless of Anne and Sasha's opinion and that was just as bad as "kidnapping" them, so not only Sasha is the one who has made mistakes too Marcy. "But Marcy did it because she didn't want to be alone", yes, just like Sasha in S1 wanted to take down Wartwood to find a way to bring Anne and Marcy home. In S2 Sasha betrayed Anne again but not only her, Marcy had also made that deal with Andrias without their permission. S3: Marcy already knows she did things wrong, but what good is it to her if she was possessed, causing her to spend the entire war in the core playing puzzles, while Anne, Sasha, Grime and Wartwood were in charge of a war ( up to "All in"). Of course Matt woke up the character of Marcy. "Why is Marcy so popular and well liked?" . Simple, during the series she has been shown as someone cute, clumsy and nerdy, also apart in her best friend relationship, making many people identify with Marcy (myself included). When she became Darcy she became one of my favorite characters and she did it very well, much better than Andrias and Sasha as *antagonist* the bad thing is that she was very trusting and that's why she lost against Sasha, which by the way Sasha hasn't had any "power up" like Anne and Marcy, she has done everything with effort and that is one of the reasons why she is my favorite character after Grime. In the diary I started to like Marcy more as a character, her way of making friends, teamwork, when she met Joe Sparrow, many things in general.

A thing I hear from some people , that I strongly disagree with is that Willow, Gus, Luz, Anne and Marcey AKA the interesting characters have weak fan bases and hardly any one likes them and that Sasha, Amity and Huntter AKA the boring or horrible characters have massive fan bases and are only loved because they are white and if we made them black they would look better and be better characters.
The other thing I hear from a lot of fans is all the ships are better if they are all Strate, no gays and every one sticks to there own color .
But the ones who get this the most are Luz, Amity and Sasha.
and I find it upsetting to hear that. and not just from one person but from many people and from every one who follows that person's channel.
I find that what REAL makes characters like Sasha and Amity and Huntter and Zuko and Pacifica and Diamond Tiara or Trixie or Princess Luna interesting is we LIKE seeing abuse victims turned in to abusive bullies discover friendship and turn good but still keep some edge. We like that journey. Race has nothing to do with it. We like a good redemption story and a character we can fell sorry for and forgive. We like to think that even the worse people are not beyond redemption.
The fact that this rarely applies in a real world situation is part of the fun of getting lost in a fantasy. Too much realism, complaints that the change comes too quickly, ruins the pacing of the narrative. Having no Antagonist also ruins the story. and having every one be mean and sad all the time and never giving them any end to there suffering also ruins the story.
We the audience, can tolerate any thing as long as there is a happy ending at the end.
People who disagree with this are people who are bitter and mad at the world or mad at a huge part of it.
If Owl House and Amphibia make you mad more then they make you laugh or cry or smile then there's some thing wrong with you.
I don't like hearing it, I don't like seeing it. and one of these days Im going to cut such people out of my life if I haven't already. Hearing opinions you disagree with and having discussions is a good thing but if people say things that depress you and give you new stress and anger you its best to leave them.
but that attitude is all over fandoms. People who hate the She-Ra cast for being too fat also go on the list of those who bug mem
I also dislike it when people give all praise and only praise to a favorite character and refuse to see that character's flaws. There are not flawless characters. there are no shows with ONLY good episodes. just as there are no characters with zero good qualities and no shows with zero good episodes. Every thing and every one has a little of both. I would be hard pressed to find a good point on Odalia but I stand by what I said.
The characters of our stories are exactly who and what and how they need to be they don't need to be changed from how they were originally written.
You can change characters and be interesting but its very easy to change characters and have it just be offensive or unnecessary. There is a lot in that statement to dissect and its a whole other topic .
Just I reject people who look at Sasha and focus on the wrong things.

I did not understand your comment very well and I do not agree in several parts. First of all in the calamity trio Marcy is the most loved and popular character, then comes Anne and lastly Sasha. Luz is also the most popular character in her series on various platforms like Twitter, Tik Tok, and TH-cam, not just Amity and Hunter. Skin color, what a character looks like, or their sexuality has nothing to do with their number of fans. An example is Marcy, who is the most popular character in amphibia because many people identify with her, the same happens with Anne, who is brunette, but that has nothing to do with it, and they are both more valued than Sasha. Amity, Hunter and Sasha not only love them for being white, you are leaving aside their character development and contribution to the series, Amity has been a character that may not be more important than Luz but she has contributed something in the past of other characters. Hunter has a very good character development so far, he was never bad, he just obeyed Belos without knowing what he was doing. Sasha is not as valued as Anne and Marcy. But she is characterized as a very useful and strong character throughout the series.

I don't hate her, admittedly there's a lot about her that I like and respect. I don't even consider her a bad character, because she's not, far from it.
My main issue is I thought her redemption arc was incredibly basic and kinda bland -- it felt a bit rushed and unearned in places (these are MY thoughts)
I'm always open to other people's opinions too

Sasha is a good character but she's not as relatable as the other two to be honest. Marcy struggles with socialising and Anne struggles with making her own decisions. Sasha's just a girl with anger issues

I disagree. She's a girl with CONTROL ISSUES that stem from her history with her parents, and plenty of people can relate to that. Same with her wanting her friends to succeed so much that she is blind to how toxic she be at times. Wanting the people you love to succeed to the point that you don't give them a chance to make their own mistakes is a flaw many _older_ viewers can relate with as well.

Honestly. Sasha surpasses Marcy as a character. Both in strength, character development, arc, and utility throughout the series.
