Thank goodness there's enough juice in the generator to keep my laptop charged, because I've got a beautiful Fable to tell you...come with me as I recreate an abandoned Lane Cedar Chest, and share a sliver of a Family Fable as we "rough it" without power.

I think your instinct is right: more “icing”! Not molds though (again, I see you trusting those instincts) but a judicious amount of scrolly or geometric stenciling. Would send this over the goalpost, imho-and enable you to carry the decoration onto the top, where it’s needed. I’m pretty sure there are “rope” stencils, so you could have coordinating frames on top without interfering with the flatness. My three cents’ worth.

Lots of prep work paid off. The red is fun. I would not add more to it with molding, but I like a simpler piece of furniture so that it does not take over a room. That is my thought, but you do have an artistic eye for creating furniture. Great job!

I’m in bc Canada and we are in the midst of a drought in the middle of winter. We are afraid of wildfires come spring and summer. At this point we would all be so grateful for a month or two of torrential rain. I love that you just rolled with it (or floated through it )❤

Yep, that would be me lol! Always have different ideas.. just thought the white fancies you thought of putting on set it off nice. I’m restoring my mother’s 100 year old mahogany ladies spinet Secretary desk and I’m a month into it, omg, the pressure to not do too much on it is horrendous! My hubby keeps saying less is more.. but I adore your red chest and you and your family of fables keep me laughing and so entertained!
This was a lot of fun to watch....the weather drama, your fur family and human family making the best of it and of course, the furniture...which I'd already seen but it was fun to see it again. Leave it alone....it's fine just the way it is.

We had a very, very bad rainstorm hair in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. A few weeks ago, it took my daughter 6 hours to get home, and she was only 3 miles away. Every street in town was flooded.

I love this chest! It is perfect. My husband and I also love red. We have a new room my husband just put on the house (TV area and dining room)- we painted three walls medium gray and the accent wall red (more of an orange red). Our grown kids don't like it but we LOVE it!

As a fellow Norcal resident, I have to say, that storm was a doozy! We also lost power, almost 24 hrs, which was not fun. Glad you got through it! And of course, I love this chest! And while I would love it just as it is, I'm always a more is more person. So I think a little moulding here and there would also look great and add to the whimsy and fantasy. I'm sure someone will snap this up and love it.

I was thinking that even if you had gone a more subtle direction with a neopilitan ice cream color scheme it would be beautiful too. You’ve probably told us before, what makes the locks dangerous? Love all your pieces. Even if some wouldn’t fit into my home, I’m always amazed by your creativity and new life you breathe into them! ❤️
Many thanks! Those locks have been recalled - it's possible for a person (child) to become trapped inside a trunk. Thanks again! 👩🍳🧁🍭🍩💗
14 children died when they became trapped in trunks because they can’t be opened from inside. If you have a Lane trunk, you can contact the company for a safer replacement lock, or replace it with a safety lock from a hardware store.

No- It's beautiful just the way it is right now. The bold red paint is enough so nothing more is needed. I think you priced it just right for now, see how it goes and maybe adjust for future pieces. Hey Andy, the trunk is fabulous… my take in it would be to switch the molding for a narrower option maybe more “leafy” or “flowery” which then would work well with the moldings you made and didn’t use… Just because you asked!!! Wouldn’t presume to question your creativity and taste!!! Thanks for your videos- I enjoy them immensely!!!

Family harmony 🎼🎶 at the end just made this video a masterpiece! And the cedar chest re-do is perfect for a little girls room. I’m up for a bit more molding, but it would need to be painted the same red. Any other color would just compete with the sweet decoupage paper and trim.
