That green is called mint, seafoam or loden in artist’s colours. It’s unnecessary to chip match. You can customize with a digital swatch.

You probably won't see this but I'll try. The Guardian, UK news outlet, has an article titled "Put Down the Duster". I really enjoyed it. It's about the mindset of oversimplifying trends that aren't actually helpful but are complicating people's lives. You might want to read it. Short read, I know you're busy.

I’m crying with you. I think we are so used to seeing instant gratification on TH-cam/social media posted by people who seem to have money or are well sponsored, so hearing you talk so honestly about your dreams and lack of finances, will resonate with many of us in your position. Your channel is pure and filled with love ❤

I’m honestly kind of tired of seeing big, grandiose renovations on YT. It’s just not attainable for a lot of people right now, and as someone who is a perpetual renter, it’s discouraging to constantly feel like the types of places I live in are deemed “subpar” (despite being perfectly useable spaces that may just look a little dated). I LOVE what you did with the space you have and how lovely and homey it is! And I teared up when you shared about not feeling you can have pretty spaces, because I have been there so many times. ❤ I absolutely adore the floor and the wallpaper together! Beautiful job, Kristina! 🎉

The cabinet colour is exactly like what my grandparents had in their house! It actually made me feel a bit teary watching the final reveal because it looked so similar to their kitchen.
I’ve always loved that green colour, it feels very cosy and homey to me. I just think of having tea and scones with my grandma as a kid.

My son and I had a conversation when he and his wife and 3 kids were visiting about a month ago. He lives 16 hours away now and I miss him so much! He was complaining about their cheap couch and some other things and I was giving him ideas for how to make it more comfortable and generally better. Then ideas for some other things... He summed it up great, he said, "so what you're saying is if we don't like what we have, do small, cheaper things to make it the way we want it, enjoy it, use it and buy new later after it's used it's purpose and maybe we will be able to afford a little better next time"
Exactly! He's on the spectrum, is a Fantastic Dad! But just needed to know starting off is tough and it doesn't have to look like anyone else's, enjoy our own lives the way they are not miserable always wishing for more or better. As an almost 28 year old man, I was so happy & proud to be his mom! He'll teach those boys even more now! He and his wife are such a cute family💙

I hope you can get your kitchen done one day! I too am on a very tight budget, and live in a rented flat, so I can't get the kitchen cupboards and modern built in cooker taken out and replaced with open shelves and a retro/vintage cooker, and build a pantry etc. I add retro touches by mini open shelves from ebay that look vintage, my crockery displayed on a vintage table, old food ads framed on the walls etc.

My husband makes a good income, but we still also have to wait and save for everything. We have an old house and lots of essential things have to come first, and the fun stuff get kicked down the road. I think most people live this way. When I have to wait it out, it is truly a blessing because you’re so much more grateful for the changes, and you make wiser choices because you wait for them for a long time.

I admire you for not just trying to fit in with all of those other boring TH-camrs with their perfect Home and Gardens magazine homes. They are so fake. @robincadwallader7426 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Agreed. Modern homes are cold and sterile. I especially hate open floor plans. They make me nervous. My son began school in 1981 in an open concept school building; there were no walls between classrooms. Within three years, the district had begun building walls and added to them until the school looked and felt like a school. I think in the future people will be adding walls to all those open concept houses. I wonder if they'll be able to find where the original walls once stood in all those cheap flips where they removed walls. Just sayin'

I LOVE IT!!! My hubby and I were both late to buy a house and didn't buy our little 1930s cottage until we were in our 50s. I had always lived in apartments, and couldn't believe that a $5 sample jar of paint for an accent wall here and there would bring me joy every single day I look at them...and this is 7 years into home ownership. We have a butter yellow wall in our kitchen, blue-gray one in the master bedroom, to name a few and they make me so happy!! I am crying along with you, sweet lady, and so thrilled with your choices. It's lovely!! (Oh, and I wouldn't change a thing with that yellow countertop...it's perfect.Think how many meals have been cooked there...wow.)

This reminded me so much of one of my favorite houses when I was growing up. We lived in a working class neighborhood that was built right after WWII. Most of the houses were 2 bedroom, and families built on as they could afford to. I spent a lot of time at my friend's house. Donna's mother painted her kitchen cabinets about every 3 or 4 years. My favorite was the time she painted the cabinets a very similar green and she sewed green gingham curtains to match. It was so clean and cheerful looking. Most of the houses on that street had the kind of kitchen sink with the porcelain drainboard all in one piece, which I loved. The rooms were all small and there were no dining rooms. We all had the formica/chrome tables in the kitchen and families sat down and ate together. Thanks for taking me back to a wonderful era of my life (late 1950s-1960s).

I was right there crying with you! You did an amazing job on your kitchen! It’s absolutely beautiful! I love all the colors, the wallpaper, the floor, the cupboards! It totally reminds me of my grandma’s kitchen in Seattle growing up! A nice cozy cup of tea and great conversation at that table in the kitchen with grandma’s homemade cookies! Love the beautiful countertop your husband made! He does beautiful work! I agree, just because we’re poor, doesn’t mean we can’t live in a beautiful place or have nice things. Anything can be painted, refurbished, etc. I have mostly all hand me down furniture. Our family just passes furniture back and forth. It’s been that way since my great grandparents were alive. They loved to thrift as well! So happy for you to have your beautiful kitchen and you deserve all the best things in life and all the beauty!

I completely feel you on the budget. My house is from the early 50s with original everything. To update, I painted everything. Inside and out of the cabinets. My walls are a close match to what you choose! How crazy is that. I painted the counters (mine were very damaged), and the floors with outdoor porch paint. Everything feels fresh and clean and current with my knod to the 50s 😁. There's nothing wrong with working with what you have and making it your own.

This was so incredibly heartwarming. It was so down to earth n real, which is rare on social media these days. I absolutely cannot stand videos of ppl showing off their expensive cars, gigantic futuristic expensive homes n lavish vacations. I'm not wealthy but I make a decent living as a RN, so it's not bc I'm envious. It's bc videos like that make ppl feel exactly how you explained. That those with limited income can't have or don't deserve nice things, n that's so wrong. It's so lovely to see someone so humble n so extremely grateful. You deserve this kitchen n so SO much more. Love it!!❤
btw i recently re-did my bathroom n have almost the same flooring!! (I have only had it for 3months but it is holding up well so far.) I modeled my bathroom after the bathrooms at the Titanic Hotel in Belfast after watching a travel vlogger/historian review it here on YT. I purchased pretty much all of my Titanic n White Star Line decor off of Amazon. I have a terrible Amazon addiction 😅

Oh, it is OUTSTANDING! With the sun filtering in it looks like something right out of a vintage magazine, or something you'd see in a movie! It's so warm and inviting. Hearing you talk about poverty and not feeling like you can have a beautiful home...I'm there right now. I'm deeply grateful to have a home, but I'm so unhappy with a lot of it. It was constructed and finished extremely sloppily and it's always seemed like something I'd have to put up with until we could ever afford to move. But recently I've been learning about homemaking and came across your channel and I cannot believe how much I can relate!! I'm neurodivergent as well (AuDHD) and am struggling to thrive on a very low income while loving beautiful things of the past. My favorite time period is 1900-1920 and I'm about to start learning to draft my own clothing patterns so I can construct a vintage/antique inspired wardrobe of things I've made myself. Seeing you transform your kitchen into such a beautiful place makes me feel like maybe I can start slowly doing the same with my own home and learn to love it. Thank you for sharing all of your hard work and inspiring thousands :)

Gosh, this turned out so beautiful! I love the green paint and the wall paper and all the little details you put in/made! Have to admit I was sceptical of the black and white floor at first but I think it fits perfectly because of what you said, it's just a classic and goes with everything! Great work!!
I so agree that no matter what your budget is, it's worth making your home beautiful! Even if it's just very little things that you can dyi or get really cheap in the thrift store, it makes such a big different for your mood. I invested in wall paint for the apartment I live in now and while it was a tight squeeze with my budget that month when I bought it, it makes me happy every day that my bedroom has light blue walls and my living room light green ones. Such a difference and it gives me perpetual joy :)

Your kitchen is charming. It truly feels like you're in Grandma's kitchen. I'd love to stop by for some cookies and a chat. I'll bring the cookies. 😉
Your careful budgeting and planning really paid off. You spent where it made sense and created your dream kitchen in a common sense way. No one will see behind the stove unless they are deep cleaning for you. The Walnut countertop is beautiful but the yellow formica seems more authentic. I would keep those.
We purchased our current home summer 2019. We couldn't move in until we eradicated the nicotine smell, which we accomplished with a lot of cleaning and fresh paint. The kitchen had 1 working appliance (it was not fully disclosed, but our inspection revealed this). We lived with that kitchen for 2.5 years using 2 plug-in burners, a microwave, and a toaster oven. With no kids, this was doable. We have gone through this process with six kids. You get creative on how to cook. Crockpot Christmas anyone? This kitchen we had a higher budget than you did, but it was limited. We got free salvaged cabinetry. We purchased a range, microwave, & fridge and decided to skip a dishwasher. We are so proud of the kitchen we put together without going into debt. We made an "island" he laid the ceramic tile floor after extensive research and the backsplash. We too painted our cabinets. We love the outcome.
I know you will love being in your new kitchen. It is so exciting when a project is completed. Congratulations!

Homes that have seen love and life are the best. Vintage will live a lot longer than new and shiny. We have countertops that have a metal edge, and we do not know how old they are. The more we live with them the more we know we cannot rip them out. Thinking outside the box to save money makes a home unique. We also have children and not new things. No regrets. Beautiful green. Love and joy to all.

One pro tip for anyone doing a space like this with peel and stick wallpaper where you anticipate likely needing to patch or replace sections because life happens: Buy an extra roll of the wallpaper you used. I did my house then needed to make some repairs before selling and it didn't go well. One pattern had been discontinued and another pattern had changed something with the ink colors so it was close but not the same in a noticeable way. I ended up having to peel it all off and repaint both rooms, which was a lot more expensive than two extra rolls would have been.

My patents were married in 1949 and we had a very similar table but a white top with gold speckles. I think the countertops were gray. Caution with the table legs narrowing at the bottom. I heard of a pet getting stuck.
I like all the flooring. If you look at (Morrocan?) tiles for walls and buildings, they have many designs together. You could have an eclectic floor. Also linoleum was popular. I think my grandmother's kitchen floor was gray linoleum with a burgundy border.
I like the strawberry rug by the door and I am crazy about vintage green.
The stove looks familiar-ish too in my childhood. I never tired of white appliances.
Enjoy your kitchen! Thanks for showing us.

Kristina, you have me tearing up!:) I'm so happy for you! Also, just a mature Christian Moms opinion from Michigan, ( also a lover of old homes, cottage core, and a thrifty thrifter;) but anyway, GF, YOU are killing it!! Your family is your priority, that's the right way to live. You totally exemplify the prov.31, and the Titus 2:9. AND make videos, and write books!! Ps, that wallpaper!!!!! perfect. I like the countertops, they look vintage. I have some like that I guess they're from the 1950s? Mine are white and gray. I used to want real marble, but I've decided that its better for the environment to stay true to my vow to try to not buy new:).

Just found your channel, Kristina. Love your attitude and honesty. Was tickled about your range. Never underestimate oldie goodies. 22 years ago when I moved into my new antique (1905) not quite lovely home, I found good, solid wall of custom kitchen cabinets with sink and window on the outside wall of the 13' x 19' kitchen and that was all there was in the whole kitchen. Called an un-fitted kitchen. It did have a plug in for a range, but no range. Off I went thrifting and at St. Vincent De Paul I found the range (for $35) the kitchen needed that I could afford. She's a big Frigidaire, made by General Motors in 1947...the same year I was born! That was 22 years ago and with all the fancy trimmings, she's still running smooth as when built. Once had thoughts of replacing her, but that will never happen. Nothing today has that lasting power of that old range. She sits proudly in a kitchen of great old cabinets found for small outlay. And I'm still dreaming of more things to do. Take your time, dream on your ideas and you go girl! Will sub to follow your adventures.

I have a 690 square-foot home. Was building 1900, a small little craftsman. I love it. I was able to update it over the last three years. I did not have a big budget. I could’ve easily spent four times the amount of money on the upgrades. It’s crazy how expensive things are. I’m happy with about 98% of everything I did, and the stuff that I would change is not worth the time money and effort to change it so I’m gonna live with it. It’s my house, other people might not like the color choices, etc. but that’s OK. They don’t live there, I do. And that’s the most important thing, you make your house the way you like it and screw everybody else. I think you did a great job.

Keep the yellow countertops. They match the green you used.
My parents had to remove and replace the cabinets of the kitchen because they were rotting away, but that ate away at their budget (plus the rest of the house needed more urgent care. The bathroom had a dangling lightbulb that turned on by pulling on a string), so I grew up hearing my mother bemoan that she had an "ugly kitchen". It wasn't until years later that my mother grabbed a paintbrush and painted fake bricks on the walls. She originally wanted those wallpapers that look like a brick wall, but the ones she liked were ridiculously expensive at the time. She wanted a farmhouse kitchen with all the chicken motifs, and now she tells me that she can't decorate it anymore because there's no space 😂 But it's no longer an "ugly kitchen".
She now wants me to sew her some tiny curtains for under the sink, but hasn't decided on the fabric yet.
For the peel and stick tiles, they also have those tiles on the kitchen, and it's been more than a decade, and it's now that they need replacing. Not because they're in bad shape, they've just been treaded on so much that there's a giant white spot in the middle of the floor 😅

This looks so lovely! For those who are doing painting (I've done a ton!!) those little foam rollers can make light work of your cabinets and won't leave fur all over the surfaces. they can also be easier to wash out, depending on the paint. The colour you chose for your cabinets look pretty similar to my wall colour, it's called Dreamweaver by Cloverdale paints.

You are living the life I started with my husband in the mid 1980's. Now we are buying my mother's house and I'm redoing the kitchen. Right in the middle of painting my cabinets. Wallpapering this fall. Here is an FYI Wayfair has a huge selection of paper. Never buy a drop match if you are on a budget. Try for a straight match. If you want to wallpaper over paneling you can do that. To be honest , I filled the grooves ,sanded and had painted mine first. You can also put up new panels on a drop ceiling and roll paint over it. We rolled the paint over them and then installed them. On two of our ceilings here we have lightly cracked plaster. So we will fix it and I think install tongue and groove. If you are on a budget try looking for a Habitat for Humanity for all sorts of things. On older houses that have settled I would not use peel and stick. With gluing paper on you can tear it in the corners if you have to. Wonderful job ! I can just imagine an old hook with a couple vintage aprons hanging on it. Go to auctions, garage sale be their when they open. You will find wonderful old things.

It is so beautiful, warm, and inviting! I see these pristine brand-new kitchens on so many other channels, and it makes me feel bad about my own 34-year-old kitchen. But when I really think about it, I don’t like the sterile white and gray look that’s so popular right now. I’d much rather have a kitchen like yours that says “home,” complete with the kitty asleep on the table! 😁❤️
