Ralphie: “are you straight pipin it son ?“ man , you have to watch this one over about 38 times to really appreciate all of the Comedy-gold . I got to say your family is so into these builds. Its awesome to see how much they help you with these builds all as a family. Most you kids would just run away and not help. Keep bringing the great videos
I sure love this family, the humor, that animals, and the car content. Parenting done right! Seriously l bet Sleeperdude will have a million subscribers at some point!
It's a 4x4 , and judging by all the 4x4 owners that I know, it probably got stuck. Somebody said " When in doubt, Gas it out!" and proceeded to over-wind it until something blew. Teenagers take this approach a lot. Great video! You know what the difference is between a teenager with a 2wd and a teenager with a 4wd ? The teen with a 4wd gets stuck 40 feet further out into the muck.
When Ralphie pulled the dust cover off the front wheel, you could see there were no drive flanges on the front axles. Assuming it has a front driveshaft, and working transfer case, it will be a cheap fix.
Great video - now new fenders , rad support ,box sides , cab corners , rockers , floor pans , new bed floor, new fuel tank , hood , door skins ,a new transmission, replace all the brakes and lines / hoses , 4 new 40”casings , and new radiator, after that you will have a good daily driver !
Your best video by far. I would like you to complete the restoration with replaced panels and totally new bed and tail gate and interior. This is potentially a valuable square body. Please don't jump to a different project. Finish this one.
Don't take this the wrong way, as I really do enjoy your videos and catch all of them. But I'm so glad my auto shop teacher (high school 1973-75) isn't around to see this video! He would be bustin heads if we even tried to turn over a motor like this, much less try to start it. It would have come out for a total disassembly, inspection and rebuild first. Yes he was a hard nose, and I have to say I cringe when seeing these vids. (from how he beat it into our heads how things were "supposed" to be done) But I totally understand where you are coming from, you can't invest a bunch of money/time in a vehicle that will just be wasted money with no return.
Y'all have to call that one Sally, cause you'll have to sneak Sally thru the Alley to not be caught dead in it. lol . But you can't go wrong with having a working 350. Ty for taking us along
Calling that sheet of rust a hood is a pretty big stretch.haha I was driving down the interstate and it was like someone turned off the ignition to my car. It was the control module. Cranked and cranked and nothing. Put in the new module and fired right up like nothing had ever happened. It's fun working under the hood while semi's are flying by.
Yeah, Squeezy wasn't sharing the love and joy when you were going in reverse all excited about "feeling the power". I fear a car will be a functional thing for getting from point A to point B. Hopefully she will get to drive the MG when you have the brakes working on it. The K15 will be a great farm beater when you get it driving & stopping in all directions, including getting the 4WD working. Because it doesn't need t be road worthy, I am hoping you will video this one fully working sooner than later.
Excellent! Thank you for sharing. I love it when the whole family gets involved. Squeezy's just not into dirty rust buckets, but you give her a baby animal and she is all about that! Keep em coming guys. Love you all!
4wd doesn’t work because it doesn’t have drive flanges in the front hubs. Noticed as soon as ralphie popped the caps off. Good job gettin’ her runnin again!
Got to see you at the Freedom Factory(from the stands), was super cool hearing how loud the car actually was! Hope that bang at the end wasn't too damaging
I love this channel and vice grip garage cuz I like seeing the kids and family happy and work together. I came from a broken home and I’m a single father raising my 12 year old son. This is the type of stuff I want to do with him soon when I get the ability to buy another house with a garage again so I can have somewhere to work on the cars out of the cold ass weather! Good work Josh and family keep them coming! I normally am partial to ford but I love the square body trucks!
Hi, if the comments of a middle aged bachelor are any help, the only garage I ever had access to, was a normal domestic car one at my parent's home. It was only wide and tall enough for 70's-sized Euro-sized cars (US readers can think of VW Beetles or Rabbits and you won't be far off ). A lot of garages built onto houses have been turned into bedrooms because they were too small for modern cars. I have serviced some of my own cars - just basic servicing that being oil and filter change and on one occasion the mid section of the exhaust. This is something you could teach your lad to do. That and brake pad replacements and possibly shocks. I expect Josh's kids, if they don't work on a vehicle themselves, will at least be able to critically evaluate the work a garage does on their vehicles on their behalf.
I have 2 daughters. No sons. They are in their 20s , I'm 54,and I still get so much joy out of annoying the crap out of them when they help me with something. Their mom just shakes her head. Love it! Love yall. Love the video.
I saw on a different channel where they mixed transmission fluid and acetone and filled the cylinders up and it worked really quick at dissolving the rust.
I’ve been watching you guys for over a year and Ralphie is learning a lot. Keep teaching him and by the time sixteen or seventeen he will be working on his own animals. Ralphie you can do better than daddy . Learn as much as you can, a good car man can earn a lot of money. Do not think you have to have a college degree, college is not for everyone. But even if you go to college, that also is nothing to be ashamed of.
Love them older SBC engines them things are almost bullet proof. For those who think your shop is a mess never, its a real shop and this is coming from a old timer.Another great video Josh and family really enjoying these videos.GOD BLESS! P.S. the 350 and 400 THM transmissions are easy to rebuild or there pretty cheap used the 350 THM was my first transmission i rebuilt back in the day super easy just thought i would let you know.
I’d love to see the 4wd fixed as well as tranny and brakes. I’d vote to leave the body and tires alone, maybe tubes. And use it as a farm beater for Ralphie and the kids to rip around.
When Ralph pulled the front hub caps off I saw the gears were missing. Set of manual lock outs will fix that. Trans sounds like the forward clutch pack is not working. Other than that, the motor sounds really good.
Priceless Ralphie and mom live the truck so you have to fix the brakes and transmission and 4x4. Love how the kiss and mom are right there helping pure family involvement keep up the good work yall
24 volts dozit every time for me back in my racing days.. my race pinto engines with huge overlap cam timing were a pig to start hot running on 12 volts but 24 volts frightened them into starting..lol.. I love Squeezy being that honest about not being into cars like you all are. And it looked like Wawa was a bit under the weather the other day, but luckily she's back and all-in. And after finding that little orange booklet and hearing the Mrs laugh I'd be sleeping with one eye open for the first week or so 🙂Great video, thank you Josh & Tosh family.
Looks like the years of C/K trucks that composted almost immediately after purchase...positive note? The square bodies are the "VW Bug" of the truck world
@@Mr.Quick_Wrench ¿Que? If you're wondering about my original comment, it is well known that the '73-'78 square bodies rotted away in anything but ultra-dry conditions. It's almost like the truck department looked over at the Vega group & thought," Wow, there's a great idea." The bodies are trash- but re-pop parts, like old VW Beetle parts, seem to be all over.
I enjoy your videos, they're very entertaining and a source of much pleasure. To see a family working together to achieve the same goal is nearly unheard of these days. I see Wah Wah really isn't happy being in the video at times but puts up with it cause she knows it's a family thing so she complies. Those kids are going to be able to identify every part of a car and explain what it does and why it's there. I want one of those goats like Rocky. Keep up the great videos. I look forward to seeing new content.
Your channel is the ONLY car channel that I will sit and watch with my husband and enjoy! I love watching the whole family be involved ❤️ I feel like when I watch y’all’s videos I’m watching my family I’ve been with my husband for 12 years and since day one he’s always has traded, build, worked on cars it’s his obsession he’s been really into building rat rods the last few years and our son Brodie is exactly like Ralphie they could be besties honestly our families are so much alike when it comes to the car world. Keep up with the videos our family loves them. The Rays from Washington ♥️
Little trick i learned about temporarily fixing radiator core leaks. First you use a needle nose pliers to remove the cooling fins around the leak, then you cut the cooling channel/tube clean through, after that you just bend/ kink the left side to the left and the right side to the right- clamp both sides down good and that should significantly slow down or stop a bad leak for $0.
I thinks it’s awesome you are teaching your kids , never see them on cell phones , I watch your videos for 6 hours a day , I enjoy it so much , I had no idea Ralph’s is learning drums , I will send out a set of my drums sticks , you wife cracks me up
Josh, should you tighten those lifter nuts before the lifters have a chance to pump up? Especially , if they were collapsed like these were. Maybe you used new lifters. I thought you were supposed to immerse hydralic lifters in oil then push on the middle with a push rod to get them pumped. But not pumped too much.
"24 volts gets you up top." Had me 😂. I need to figure out how to use your phrases in everyday use. You guys are a wonderful family. I'm surprised that you and your family don't eventually get a show.
Thanks again for the fun filled video, plus uve got another great runner and of course 4x4. Will look forward to you getting the Trans running properly plus the 4 wheel drive. Hopefully they will be simple fixes.
I got about ten minutes of this video left. Waiting to see if you're gonna hook that vacuum booster line up. Loving the content! Keep up the good work!
Ive messed with dozens (maybe hundreds?) of old rusty junkyard engines and ive never seen anything like those valves- that was crazy. Anyways-its my first time watching your channel...cute family 🥰
I love this. Reminds me of my 79 I bought for $200. looks almost exactly like it. Same configuration and color code. It had sat in a field for about 7 years with the window down. It didn't even sell at auction. My grandaddy helped drag it home behind his suburban during which I stirred up a wasp nest inside. It just needed a fuel pump to start up and run. Then same deal only reverse no drive. We got it fixed up and I drove it for a year. ❤
I had a 69 suburban that had tons of rust. I think it helped it since it was so much lighter than when it left the factory. It was 2 tone green and white just like your new pickup.
Man oh man, what a cream puff. That thing is showroom fresh. I love that it plays music as it rolls off the trailer . How did you find a 1 owner gem 💎 like that. You got an eye ... and the hood is mint!!!! You never see them in that condition for that year . Lol can't wait to see what you guys do on it.
Making the horn blow when starting the engine might be a new business as a theft deterrent! 😂 I think pepsi-cola became know as pepsi in 1961. Great family fun. Love ya’ll. Blessings 🙏👊👍💪
There is a rust crack line at the beginning before u put air in the first tire u can see daylight all the way through on both sides there is alot of rust where the engine sits may need new support brackets and struts to hold up the coil overs there too rusted out and will snap if u go over certain speeds. Please be careful
Some years ago I recovered a truck from a sand trap on an escape road at the foot of a steep hill. It had run away on the hill. The driver managed to get in a lower gear but it tore the center out the clutch plate, but not before over revving the engine and dropping two valves. I suspect at only eight years old and fifty five thousand miles, your truck had a similar fate. Dropped into low drive at high speed, dropping four valves and smoking the tranny in the process.
Honestly was a little worried about this one on first sight of that rust bucket, but never doubted you getting it running. It's hard to fully kill a square body. After seeing hotrod hoarders square body buy i was thinking why would anyone buy something that far gone. Good on ya!
"You can't go wrong buying cylinder heads from the Piggly Wiggly" needs to be on a shirt. I laughed so hard at that. I would love to see you put in the work on this one. I'd love to see some patch repairs from a pro. How about how well can a pro paint with a harbor freight gun and paint from the hardware store?

Love those old square body trucks! This is such a great channel!
When Ralph pulled the front hub caps off I saw the gears were missing. Set of manual lock outs will fix that. Trans sounds like the forward clutch pack is not working. Other than that, the motor sounds really good.
Very good video. I would like to see y'all fix the four-wheel drive and the transmission.
Can't believe you got it to run and drive after seeing how full of crap the cylinders were! Great job, what a fun watch this one was.
You guys never cease to amaze. Great video. Piggly Wiggly always comes through.
Shame about the transmission. That cat is beautiful 😍 We just adopted 2 kittens from the farm I work at.
Yeah I wish it would have worked
Priceless Ralphie and mom live the truck so you have to fix the brakes and transmission and 4x4. Love how the kiss and mom are right there helping pure family involvement keep up the good work yall
Thank you!!
24 volts dozit every time for me back in my racing days.. my race pinto engines with huge overlap cam timing were a pig to start hot running on 12 volts but 24 volts frightened them into starting..lol.. We get more smiles per mile with your family videos and we must thank Miss Pretty Eyes for putting up with you all at home bless her, her "Yes I`ll drive It makes me smile - NO FEAR MUM eh.. thanks.. Ian way over the pond - UK.
Thanks for watching Ian. Yes 25 volts works like magic sometimes
Another great project. Good to see it running too. The transmissions are relatively easy to rebuild too.
Chevy turbo usually 1st and reverse use same bands.
@@gregoryblair9810 that's true. I'm sure they have a great plan by now to get that truck up and going.
Yeah squeezy usually doesn’t like any car stuff.
@Sleeperdude hopefully one day she's your guys in house painter and interior designer :)
Looks like the years of C/K trucks that composted almost immediately after purchase...positive note? The square bodies are the "VW Bug" of the truck world
My Dad said he was going to put a 350 in a ford body and have the best of both worlds.
New tranny ,brakes, and hood and just keep it as a beater.
@@madlukasik the steel GM used in this era is akin to FIAT "Quality."
?
@@Mr.Quick_Wrench ¿Que? If you're wondering about my original comment, it is well known that the '73-'78 square bodies rotted away in anything but ultra-dry conditions. It's almost like the truck department looked over at the Vega group & thought," Wow, there's a great idea." The bodies are trash- but re-pop parts, like old VW Beetle parts, seem to be all over.
loved this. Enjoyed Ralphie's different socks he had on. I would like to see you finish this truck over time.
Not many old Chevy engines out there with 655,000 miles on them still revivable. Nice job!
This is definitely turning into my favorite TH-cam channel. You guys crack me up
Awesome thank you
That was awesome watching you guys bring the engine back to life! She turns fast with 24 volts. Great job.
Look at that smile on Ralphie's face when you Rev that small block Chevy with open headers
Thank you I sure hope so
So entertaining
I sure love this family, the humor, that animals, and the car content.
Thank you! 😃
Its going be awesome for you guys to be able to go back in 10 years to be able to watch these videos of your family working together. 🔥🔥🔥
YES! Finally a chevy truck! Keep em coming!
Thank you
Thanks again for the fun filled video, plus uve got another great runner and of course 4x4. Will look forward to you getting the Trans running properly plus the 4 wheel drive. Hopefully they will be simple fixes.
You guys are having way too much fun to call that work! Great video again!
I got about ten minutes of this video left. Waiting to see if you're gonna hook that vacuum booster line up. Loving the content! Keep up the good work!
Sounded pretty good for not having any oil pressure!
I know right !!
Ive messed with dozens (maybe hundreds?) of old rusty junkyard engines and ive never seen anything like those valves- that was crazy. Anyways-its my first time watching your channel...cute family 🥰
Another great video Josh! Those were definitely the worst heads I have ever seen! Great job getting the old girl running again, it sounded Great!
Love how far y’all went with this will it start! it would be awesome to see you throw some clutches in the transmission and fix it cheap!!
The 24 Volts freed the rusted diaphragm of the Horn
Works every time
Absolutely fantastic from start to finish! Can't wait for the trans fix and clean up!
Do a full restoration on this pickup 🛻. Waiting for part 2 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you
Looks like it's muddin standing still with all the rust😄 Should be interesting to see all the bamage over the years
Living in S.W. PA I thought I've seen the rustiest a vehicle could be but that rig takes the prize! WOW!
Ahahahahahah
So cool to watch both of you in the engine compartment together with room to spare.
Oh, those were the days!! Drop a tool. You found it on the ground.
That's a new t-shirt piggly - wiggly heads. You folks are awsome. God Bless all of you.😊😊😊😊
Man oh man, what a cream puff.
I think you are right
Great family past time. Just having reverse, it can be your back up truck then. Good video you guys, goats , chicken and miss piggy.
🤣🤣🤣
Always love the videos, and watching you work thru the myriad of engine issues with your family. Thanks again.
You maybe right
Honestly was a little worried about this one on first sight of that rust bucket, but never doubted you getting it running. It's hard to fully kill a square body. After seeing hotrod hoarders square body buy i was thinking why would anyone buy something that far gone. Good on ya!
I love this truck, probably the most beautiful thing you’ve gotten since I have been watching your show
Thank you
"You can't go wrong buying cylinder heads from the Piggly Wiggly" needs to be on a shirt. I laughed so hard at that. I would love to see you put in the work on this one. I'd love to see some patch repairs from a pro. How about how well can a pro paint with a harbor freight gun and paint from the hardware store?
Put a bunch of sand bags of sand in the bed. Then you have the weight in the back to reverse out!!
Yes
@@Sleeperdude Your welcome! Cell phone& computer data plans& services are less then deplorable here in Alaska. We started watching yall's videos in early 2019. Tho that was only option avaible. Recently videos play for 3 seconds, than die repeatedly over& over again,or glitching or freezing up. Tho you love the same cars as we do. 1 of favorites was my 1981 mercury zepher, rear wheel drive. 1 of the best family cars ever made, trunk space to stock up a years worth of groceries at 1 time& still room for tools& supplies. Car manufactures now days should be slapped in the face, they need to stop being stupid & bring back & mass produce the 1980's models.
I love it please continue to keep us updated on the other projects ☺️
I watch several dozen youtube channels and you are by far the most entertaining, always. You made a good decision.
It will be good to see it working in 4WD if possible. I think it needs a trans flush to start with. I also think it will be great to fix up the panel rust and fit a new hood. Great vid thank you, its great to see all the family involved.
