Today we’re going to talk about my favorite pirate-y tabletop game adventure. And that is Salvage Operation, a level four one-shot written by Mike Mearls for fourth edition dungeons and dragons. This adventure has been updated for 5E, but could easily be adapted to just about any tabletop system. I’m going to give you the basics of the module, talk about how to run it easily, and explain the modifications I’ve used. Cool? Cool. Let’s dig in.

I used this for an along-the-way quest during ocean travel. The PCs find the quest giver floating on the broken mast, and after nursing him back to health he begs them to help rescue his treasure.
I changed to Druid to be a former crew member turned Kraken Priest, and it was he who summoned the creature in the first place. The players never entered his sanctum, so when they came out on the top deck with the chest, tentacles flailing all around and the PotC Kraken theme going full blast, he ordered his sahuagin minions to make them sacrifices for the "kraken". I think it went pretty well.
