Thank you for making this - I lived in Bella Napoli for three years and they told me, "You'll cry when you come and you'll cry when you leave" and they were right. Beautiful, gritty - the true soul of Italy.
Gritty! Exactly the word I use to describe Napoli. We visited a few years ago - as a gateway to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii and because my father spent 6 weeks in the hospital after he was wounded at Anzio in March 1944. We had been on a tour beginning in Venice to Bellagio to Cinque Terra, Florence, Montepulciano then Naples. At the beginning, we were a bit overwhelmed but, I soon began to relish the special rhythm of the city when I got away from the busy hectic highways. Wifey never really took to it EXCEPT when she found the street of the Nativities. We barely fit everything in the Fiat!
@@oldhardrock2542 haha! Gritty really is the perfect English word to describe it. It's funny you mention that street, it was known to us Navy guys as Christmas Alley 😂 we always took anyone visiting us there, that entire area of Italy goes absolutely NUTS for Christmas lights too! Salerno's lights are to die for during the holidays.
@@rankispanki that's good to know. Salerno is on my bucket list Christmas time sounds great. Actually, we were in Sorrento late October and Christmas preparations were just beginning. Time is too short. We really want to get back.
As a Neapolitan, I want to say thank you! One of the most beautiful representations of Naples. I didn't imagine I could be moved watching the city I live in every day, on youtube.
As someone who has been to both, I understand why you say this...i would say that they both have a decadent royal atmosphere to them. Although Rio is far more dangerous, which makes it a little scary. Naples nowadays is pretty calm.
I'm in Naples right now 23/9/2022 and the city, the history, the food, the people are simply beautiful. Everything is underated and I will certainly be returning another day. Thank you Napoli and the people of Napoli for your warm welcoming and a memorable holiday and I still have 3 days left to go. Love from an English tourist.
@@olethegoatsolkjaer6966 what about them? didn't see them didn't bother us. The city is fantastic with ok some crazy driving but the people are straight and humble. I had some great laughs with the locals and was made to feel very welcome. I absolutely love this city and definitely will be returning.
I've seen documentaries about the best places in the world. But I've never felt so much peace and sense of belonging to a place than this one. And the way you guys have brought this together is amazing. The host is amazing.
Correct! Too often, these type of videos devolve into fashion shows Starr in the creator, which can be supremely annoying. As I’ve said elsewhere, this woman has talent, enthusiasm, and has the potential to be a great TV host. I hope she continues.
As she was speaking to the elderly woman who showed her pictures of her children and one of her younger self I sat watching with a smile! I just enjoyed her warmth and pride of her city. This was definitely an enjoyable video as it showed a glimpse of REAL life...loved it!
I love how Naples is about Passion and art and expression and not perfection and keeping the walls clean. I’ve never been there but hope to visit. It seems like a place that will make my soul happy. I love this video.
Healthy culture ? Like the years of endemic corruption ? Highest crime rates in Italy ? Or some of the highest incidents of domestic violence ? Sounds like a very contradictory culture, that shows a smiling face to passers by and outsiders but has another reality. This videos always show a lopsided view but the quality of life in Napoli is not that much different to Bulgaria.
@@ColtraneTaylor I am afraid it is TRUE - the superficial look at such places, is kind of irresponsible. I challenge anyone who romanticise those small streets, to go and rent a place and live there for a year. They will soon have a different point of view. Community might be ok but it is all people have there, there is not much else and they also suffered decades of gang crime and oppression, people do not get that the south of Italy was a like warzone at times. Go to some towns in the south, you see army and armoured cars in the streets, for gang violence, it was much worse 20 years ago. Be good to show that side of things.
I visited Napoli about a month ago and I just wanna say that you absolutely are right about everything you said about Napoli. It’s severely a misunderstood city but it has stolen my whole heart. The People, the food and history is absolutely memorable.
Beautifully captured. You really gave the essence of the City and put in so much effort to contextualise (even with "the Italian - no Neapolitan Mamma"), you engage with the locals so naturally that they are willing to share personal photos of their nearest + dearest. Great work.
22:16 makes me think of Maradona, of happy people enjoying the beach, of old fishermen, of tiny old streets with very good food places, of the volcan behind in the Roman Epoque. What a beautiful area is Napoli. I hope to be visiting soon
Great video Malini. My husband and I travelled from Milan to Sicily in 2018 and I must say the place which really captured my heart is Napoli. Love the people, food and ambience, in fact everything. Amo Napoli
Oh WOW , Malini this is such an amazing video I have been to Napoli several times and it is one of my favourite cities , thankyou for the incredible video showing everyone how beautiful Napoli is , As they say you will cry when you arrive to Naples and you will cry when you leave Napoli Grazi Miele
The elderly Lady on her balcony with her colourful painted nails was just the graceful essence not only for Napoli, she was the essence of Bella Italia, and La Dolche Vita. Thank you for this awesome summary of Napoli. We in Melbourne just had the Italian Film festival, and l watched this beautiful Neapolitan movie NOSTALGIA, as captivating as this documentary. Thank you.
You brought a tear to my eye. I'm Italian but have lived away, going home as much as I can. This comes close to being there. Thank you. This is so refreshing from many of the other vlogs where they spend most of the video telling you what they're wearing etc. One went so far as to complain the Napoletano taxi driver wanted the tourists to give him their festination in Italian! Imagine that. This, however, discovers the heart of the country - its people. It's a pity this seems to be the only video of Italy on your channel. Please, keep going.
I will always love this city. Just left Carpri and Naples. I have been visiting this city since 2005 and never get tired of it. Will be back next time to visit Amalfi and Positiano.
That's one of the most peaceful documentry I've ever watched. Wonderful city with with beautiful and friendly people. Life's great over there, would love to visit one day. Love to Italy. 🇮🇹
I visited Napoli in September 2022 and I was blown away by its authenticity and good vibes. I felt like I was in real Italy. The food was incredible but my favorite part was the people!
simply in america, many americans are originally from the south, so you have stereotypes of southern Italians, and you think everyone is like them. But they are a minority, not the majority.
What do you mean by real Italy? All Italy is real, regardless of the Hollywood stereotypes that everyone wants to shove down our throats. Naples, Rome, Milan, Turin, Palermo, they are all authentic Italian cities! 🇮🇹
@@erosgritti5171 actually the south comprises about 1/3 of the Italian population. Anyway, I see what you’re trying to say. I would actually argue that Americans tend to identify Italy not with the south, but with Naples and Sicily exclusively, which are only a part of the south itself. At any rate, it’s not like Italians differ a lot throughout the peninsula. We’re a pretty homogenous country, unlike other European countries like Spain, Germany or the UK.
THIS is the kind of traveling video I've been wishing to find more of. For me to explore every city/town in my European travels, I need and love to research about the history, the arts and architecture before I go. It's so rare to find videos like yours besides the big names like 'Rick Steves' and my favourite art historians' documentaries. So, a big thank you to produce such informative great videos!
This is only additional to these unique videos, the Venetian Francesco da Mosto (BBC) also made insightful lovely documentaries about Bella Italia, and Silvia Colloca about the region, where she comes from the Abruzzi.
Wow. Watching your video, I am overcome with my love for Italy and brought to tears. You have so amazingly captured the beauty of Naples, and the unique character of the lovely Neaopolitan people. Wow. I am in awe of the emotion you have elicited in me through this video. Grazie mille.
They really have big hearts for everyone not only for people that are born there...I got in Naples when I was 15 years old for 2 years of school not only as an outsider from 200 km away but as an Albanian so not Italian...I will never forget how they welcomed me in the class i loved them all they managed to get only for me a Christmas gift "New pair of Nike shoes" because i was the only one that didn't have a family there so they made me a surprise for Christmas! It was only 3 month after I got to that class so very short time! I will never forget that I felt so special!!! The only one they give a gift...I mean they all got some money bring it together and some got to the shop and get the shoes for me!!!! That was insane for me!!!!!!! The fact that most of them agreed for this it explain what kind of person they are I don't even remember when they asked me for my number of shoes that's how good they were to not let me know of they're doing! Not only that but all them were so nice we were all friend all enjoying school together it was AMAZING Instead 16 years in foggia (ITALY) and never got anything like that! Never got so many friends in 16 years in foggia as I got to know in only 2 years in NAPLES Sorry for my English btw
Nice account of a richly cultured city! I visited as a young vagabond working my way around the world on merchant ships in 1965 when it could still be done. The radio operator on ship, an ever curious intellectual who for sure read Ernest Hemingway, and I toured Naples for a day. We were greeted and hosted by Gregario. He should us the town and we sampled the delightful food the whole way. Always wondered what was in it for Gregario showing an American kid and fellow traveler the treasures of Naples. Now I know! Well done, Malini!
This is by far one of the best videos I have seen of Naples. I have lived in Naples & am planning a return at present. The sheer vivid colours in most scenes capture the life of the town during the summers.
Da napoletano posso solo dirti GRAZIE! per come hai centrato l'essenza di Napoli non rimanendo ancorata ai soliti ignoranti stereotipi con i quali dipingono la nostra amata Napoli ma andando a fondo del cuore della nostra città! Grazie!

I’m originally from Puerto Rico and have been living in USA most if my life. No one is this open in the UsA. The way the people in Naples are so open and hang out outside together reminds me a lot of my neighborhood in Puerto Rico. The things that they loved about Naples and their values were so much alike. It brought tears to my eyes hearing the elderly people talk as I they reminded me of some people that passed away in their mannerisms, stories and thoughts. I have had Italian friends and I can say none of them reflected this culture because they were too americanized. If I would have known I would have studied abroad in Italy instead.
Wepa! People in the south of Europe are friendly & seem to value the small things in life like us puertorricans. My experience with people from USA even the second gen puertorricans is they're more individualistic and into consumerism "they live to work not work to live".
modern cities are not conducive to people being open. The neighborhoods are designed for cars, the buildings are spaced out, we move much less on foot. Naples has a huge historic center, and hasn't suffered from mass immigration, so the Neapolitan spirit has remained almost unchanged Same thing in Bari Vecchia, Palermo, Catania and in the borghis (medieval towns). You've probably talked to people from the north or the suburbs, where there is less brotherhood. Once upon a time even in the north there was this way of doing things, for example in the famous Milanese condominiums with railings, which are now palaces for the rich. More than americanization, it is the economy, structures and immigrants that have changed people. The Neapolitans, for example, have never had to face problems such as the ghettoization of foreign peoples, it only happened once with the Nigerians (and it didn't end well).
Congratulations on the most intelligent, heartwarming and inspiring video on Napels I could find on TH-cam. I watched it after just having arrived there. As a Neapolitan I really want to thank you for all the beautiful things yo said about my city; The take home message is clear here: don't judge a book by its cover, Napoli it's not Gomorra!
I think this is the most authentic video about my hometown I've ever seen from a tourist. Fair play to you. It's on my favourites now. The lady at 6:30 is very sweet and she's speaking few words of Spanish, probably because you look Spanish and she tried her best as we're still familiar with the Spanish language for historical reasons. At 21:55 one of them respectfully said you are a pretty girl when they joined the video, which is socially accepted as a kind compliment in Naples (also because it's true haha). People in Naples are very friendly, only problem is that some of them might not feel comfortable speaking English or even Italian, as the main language there is Neapolitan, which is widely spoken in all informal situations, but you handled it perfectly! Been living abroad for 10y now and miss many things about Naples. So underrated and misunderstood. ❤

Was in Naples in February 2019 for the conference, also ate in this pizzeria (Margheritta was the best in my life). Even was able to speak some italian just with gestures) Always heard tourist stories before that this is just a dirty place and nothing to do there, but actually being lost in the streets alone in the evening, walking near the sea, talking to people and so on revealed the whole atmosphere. And it was pretty awesome:)
I got chills. This is one of my favourite cities in the world. Been there twice and i would go again. For the streets, for the views, for the people, for the pizza and pasta, for the scent of orange blossom, for the Pompei town, Sorento and the beautiful Capri, Ischia and Procida, for the old and the new parts of the city. And the best part is that it is 1.5 hours to there from my country. Some people say it is so dirty there, awful but as the video say rephrased - Don't die before you see Naples. I loved every day I've been there

Hello
What a breath of fresh air. A channel that is about the destination and not the traveller showing off and being self obcessed. Thank you!
She was so white. No nigleanos in her ancestry.

I love how Naples is about Passion and art and expression and not perfection and keeping the walls clean. I’ve never been there but hope to visit. It seems like a place that will make my soul happy. I love this video.
I totally agree!
It won’t make your lungs happy from the nasty air pollution
This is how a travel video should be. It shows the people, their culture and what they value the most! Fantastic
I love to see the elderly in their element and living well. I wish this life for all elderly people all over the world

Greetings from ΕΛΛΑΣ 🇬🇷 to ITALIA 🇮🇹
I lived in Naples for more than one year and this is the best video I’ve seen that could show a bit of the soul and energy that Naples has. Congrats!
people smiling at the camera instead of trying to attack you for filming them speaks volumes as to how healthy their culture and spirit is as a people
Healthy culture ? Like the years of endemic corruption ? Highest crime rates in Italy ? Or some of the highest incidents of domestic violence ? Sounds like a very contradictory culture, that shows a smiling face to passers by and outsiders but has another reality.
This videos always show a lopsided view but the quality of life in Napoli is not that much different to Bulgaria.
in a healthy culuture you don't ever film other people without their approval.

Community might be ok but it is all people have there, there is not much else and they also suffered decades of gang crime and oppression, people do not get that the south of Italy was a like warzone at times.

It was only 3 month after I got to that class so very short time!
I will never forget that I felt so special!!! The only one they give a gift...I mean they all got some money bring it together and some got to the shop and get the shoes for me!!!! That was insane for me!!!!!!!
The fact that most of them agreed for this it explain what kind of person they are
I don't even remember when they asked me for my number of shoes that's how good they were to not let me know of they're doing! Not only that but all them were so nice we were all friend all enjoying school together it was AMAZING

Now I know! If I would have known I would have studied abroad in Italy instead.
it's pretty common in East (of USA).

This is by far the best travel vlog I've seen of Italian city, now I have to watch all your vlogs, xx from Serbia

Brava Angelica, che emozione vedere la mia Napoli. Troppo originale unica in Italia 💙
I loved every day I've been there
I lived there for 6 years as a child in the 1960's. Every October for the past 10 years, I travel to either Naples, Rome, or Florence. Next month it will be Rome and Florence. After seeing this video, I wish I had planned a return to Naples. Next year for sure.
Watching your videos is a pure pleasure! You're artists, you and all the stuff working with you.The photographers with their great shooting, those who work on the editing, and you and your great way of presenting the cities with lots of passion and well chosen words.
Keep up the good work!
Oh😊😊
This is some of the best coverage of Italian regions on youtube, very well presented, produced, and it captures the spirit and vibe so so nicely!
Naples is an ancient city with great history to attract a tourist. They're food joints every corner of the city. I'm already in love with the city by this content.

It's a beautiful city with a detrimental culture, they live in their own world and if you criticize them they cry and play the victim role. Their "authenticity" it's nothing but tourist facade.
Quindi, alza i tacchi e via .
Ti vergogni a dirlo ?? Povero .
Fai tanta pena. Chissà quanti scheletri nell'armadio avrà la tua città è te stesso. Qui , a fare la vittima puntadito sei tu. E lo dimostrano i tuoi commenti.
