  • The 2006 Tour de France was the 93rd Tour de France, taking place from July 1 to July 23, 2006. It was won by Óscar Pereiro following the disqualification of apparent winner Floyd Landis.
The Tour began with a prologue in Strasbourg, on the French-German border, and ended on Sunday July 23 in Paris. The distance of the course (run counterclockwise around France) was 3,657 km (2,272 mi). The race was the third fastest in average speed. Along the way, the cyclists passed through six different countries including France, The Netherlands (a stop at Valkenburg in Stage 3), Belgium (at Huy, Stages 3 and 4), Luxembourg (at Esch-sur-Alzette, Stages 2 and 3), Germany (though not stopping there, Stage 1) and Spain (Pla-de-Beret, Stage 11). The presentation of the course was made by the new director of Le Tour, Christian Prudhomme. For the first time since the 1999 edition, there was no team time trial.
The event, as with some of the Tours of the late 1990s, was marred by doping scandals. Prior to the tour, numerous riders - including the two favourites Jan Ullrich and Ivan Basso - were expelled from the Tour due to their link with the Operación Puerto doping case.
After the Tour, the apparent winner, Floyd Landis, was found to have failed a drug test after stage 17; Landis contested the result and demanded arbitration. On September 20, 2007, Landis was found guilty and suspended retroactive to January 30, 2007 and stripped of the 2006 Tour de France title making Óscar Pereiro the title holder. Landis appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport which upheld the ban.

Still an astonishing performance anyone know what the performance was here for Floyd in ave watts for the stage? Also.did floyd take something the night before his amazing stage which made him fail.

Glywnnis Wells duno about watts/kg but sure about 6.2 for the climbs. Reason he failed was a contaminated blood bag i think, which was taken off a few months before. That would explain, why he failed. Normally roids wouldn‘t help you recover ..

Testosterone doesn’t give you what he had that day. More likely blood bags maybe spun down for the platelets but which also had testosterone he was using at the time the blood was initially taken from him during training when it would of been helping him build and recover.

Pereiro had 2 adverse analytical results during the tour as well including the stage before this where Landis cracked. Pereiro had Salbutamol in his tests which he retroactively was given a TUE for.

That 30 minute breakway a few days earlier was one of the stupidest things I've ever seen in the TDF. Letting someone win a stage by half an hour is just reckless.
Without that, Landis would have won easily. He definitely wouldn't have had that crack on Stage 16. That was a result of panic letting that 30 minute break happen and Periero didn't collapse.

    • @blackmamba3060
      @blackmamba3060 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

It wasn't quite as egregious, but I have no idea why Contador Evans and the others let Rasmussen go on the first mountain stage in 2007 either. They must have thought he'd crack at some point but they didn't even get close to it and he just held it the rest of the way.

great memories... 2006 was a great tour. But I remember thinking on this day watching Landis that the era of doping had reached a whole new level...yeah doping was always there, lurking in strategies, battled climbs and personal warfare for the top... but now it was out there for all to see with no attempt to cover it. Landis was like... "yeah, I dope... and now will I drop EVERYONE!!".... "and I got amphetamine water bottles"! After he won that stage I thought "that was amazing"... and "his career is OVER!!!"... and sure enough they booted his ass from that tour.... there are no masking agents and not enough money to cover that performance. Last year he opened a cannabis company (yeah you read that right... a cannabis company) This guy is to drugs want a Fly is to smelly shit.

Dynamic Prepper armstrongs doping was well ahead of landis. armstrong winning his first 5 tours was evidence for everyone that doping was rife. it was only the last couple of years that the rest of the peloton caught up to armstrong in doping methods.

they were all tuned at that time-blood doping, testosterone, epo and human growth hormons.
So if we talk about the bunch of riders wearing the end nr 1 on their shirts, they all compete at about the same level.
And that year Floyd was definitely the best out of them, regarding his bad pains because of his damaged hip-he knew
that would have be to replaced,so this was his one and only chance of winning the tour de france, the top goal for every rider, the drem you live while you train hard for years and years-those guys are not evil, they’re victims of a long established system in this sport.
There wasn’t a clean tour yet,and there’s no one to come,as these efforts over the biggest mountains three weeks in a row you
can’t do with water and bread.no way.not at that speed and constant pressure🚴🏽💦

Smattless people in the hardcore cycling community are pretty gdamn stupid then because an entire generation of 85-95% of the top level riders were all doping at the same time.... This generation should be accepted for what it was and thank God Floyd Landis opened his big loud mouth and started talking otherwise the peloton would be as dirty in 2020 as it was in 2000..... Instead modern cycling is fair and clean and even if there will always be asholes trying to cheat to gain an advantage..... Well let's at least hope the era of team sponsored doping programs is dead and buried

I don’t think you can come down on him for operating a cannabis business when it’s perfectly legal to do so. That market segment is blowing up right now and governments who’ve made it legal are enjoying the tax money to come from it.
