Cycling Tour de France 2011 - part 12
Cycling Tour de France 2011
The 2011 Tour de France was the 98th edition of the race. It started on 2 July at the Passage du Gois and ended on the Champs-Élysées in Paris on 24 July. The cyclists competed in 21 stages over 23 days, covering a distance of 3,630 kilometres (2,260 mi). The route entered Italy for part of two stages. The emphasis of the route was on the Alps, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the mountain range first being visited in the Tour. Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team won the overall general classification. Andy Schleck of Leopard Trek was second, with his brother and teammate Fränk third.
The general classification leader's yellow jersey was worn first by Philippe Gilbert of Omega Pharma-Lotto, who won the opening stage. In the following stage, Garmin-Cervélo's victory in the team time trial put their rider Thor Hushovd into the overall lead. He held the yellow jersey until the end of the ninth stage when it was taken by Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar), who went on to hold it throughout the stages in the Pyrenees and up until the end of the final Alpine stage. Andy Schleck, who had won the previous stage (the 18th), held it for the following individual time trial; Evans took enough time in this stage to take the yellow jersey. He then held the lead into the finish in Paris.
Evans became the first Australian to win the Tour, and the second non-European to have officially done so. At 34, he was also the oldest post-World War II winner. HTC-Highroad's Mark Cavendish was the first British winner of the points classification, Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi) won the mountains classification and Pierre Rolland of Team Europcar won the young rider classification. The team classification was won by Garmin-Cervélo and the overall super-combativity award was given to Jérémy Roy (FDJ).

Pretty sure Hamilton and Livingston had a bag of blood apiece before Ventoux. Was a pretty striking recovery compared to their poor showing in the Pyrenees.
Epic moments in Cycling history.......😀 As much I enjoyed Alberto Contador and Andy Schleck playing the climbers game. Accelerating again and again and again and behind them the bunch disintegrated.
11:55 That aged well
@27:26 EPO is the answer
And another one banned for doping
I was in the crowd aged 14..down near Tignes somewhere…the peloton buzzed past me, I’ve been a fan and a keen rider ever since 👍 Looking back now and seeing Lance beige dropped by Indurain…the doping was rife!
Landis looks like Line Cook. Not a bike rider. 😂
All doped to the gills......EPO powered TDF.
What a descent by Gerdemann!!
This 1999 Year...Saeco Cannandale team...the bike I have
Great coverage. Thx
Find myself watching these in 2024 over the tour lol
Love the classic races
Yes! a breakaway win pls
Thanks for posting. Love the old Eurosport coverage
Great post. Thanks
Love these the old Eurosport coverage
compare caisse depargne and this generation of spanish talent to today lol ayuso and rodriguez and movistar
@16:07, the end of Roche as a grand tour contender.
Thomas “TV Tommy” Voeckler.
Thanks for sayin it, vote British people!!
God the commentary is soooooo baaaaad. Watching Michael Rasmussen decent that horrible descend and they cannot tell that he's actually good at it. He's no Savoldelli or Sagan but he's riding to the edge and he never skids or locks up. His lines are just not the ones those morons (Who never rode bikes themselves) would take. Same guys that raved on about how Nibali was Soooooooo good down hill because he took such risks and was oh so fast.... Guess what? When his youthfull spirit left him he turned into on of the worst descenders I've ever seen cause he wasn't that good technically when it came down to it and had lost all his courage and got scared. But oh no he was still so fast and good. Just because you look in difficulty doesn't mean you are. Rasmussen's style wasn't pretty but if he was that bad, how come he never crashed other then that famous TT in 2004 ofc. Rasmussen rode Contador out of the wheel going downhill a year later several times and Alberto was a pretty good descender. Doesn't get worse then British commentary as far as actually having knowledge about the actual race that's happening in front of you.
The great days of the Tour 👏🇺🇸
David Miller never stopped complaining.
Incredible how unsuitable most of the bikes were for pros back in the day . Compare how they look today to how uncomfortable and awkward most of these boys look . Most of them are about 10kg heavier than their modern day athletes.
Great upload. But my god British commentary has always been the absolute worst. Who in their right mind believed that Fabian Cancellara could keep yellow on the stage to Andorra? It was impossible and his own team said he'd try but it wouldn't be possible.
The tour announces the next years route and then the parties responsible for the roads on that route take a sudden interest and lay down new ashalt, this road seen here is in pristine condition.
❤🎉🎉
53:56 There's seve
54:33 there it is the 21 hairpin corners that is....
31:02 TDF stage winner does post race... for dummies
man was war damals mglich. nen Ulle gewinnt die Tour und im TV gabs noch Titten ohne Pixel
“The Colombian has a high natural testosterone level. He was found not guilty because his high testosterone is natural!” 😂😂😂😂 these commentators were part of the problem with ludicrous sycophancy!
I lost weight during cancer as well, but it sure didn't make me any faster....guess I didn't take the right meds.
Team ONCE was awesome in the TTT.
Titti Favorola? wtf?
Lemond vs the dopers
And what about cappuccino !
What I wanna know is how did hit Hennie Kuiper his head on an overhanging rock? Were they racing through a cave??? lol
Pantani’s stage 21 TT was pretty LOL
Pretty DOPED.....
It's a terrible situation to watch riders like Greg lemond and Figon take a backseat to drugheads like Miguel indurian who won every tour de France juiced up on E. P. O. !
No-one believes Lemond was clean! USA dopers like John McEnroe(horsehormone!) Barry Bonds Jose Canseco Mark McGwire Marion Jones Justin Gatlin Randy Barnes Tyler Hamilton Lance Armstrong Floyd Landis and so on! Indurain was 186cm tall and more talented than doper Greg Lemond!!
Fignon two positive doping test results! Lemond was the big doper like Lance Armstrong!!
" The Italians don't always ride well in the Tour de France, I don't know what it is, but maybe we don't serve enough spaghetti when they get to France" - Phil Liggett Also @ 1:19:52 The KOM cow is grazing while la vache maillot jaune is studying the race.
Is there a Part 10 floating around the aethyr anywhere?
Golden Era in cycling. This is the first TdF I remember as a kid.
Why were Liggget and Sherwen so endears to Armstrong
Liggett and Sherwen had such a massive hard-on for Armstrong
Liggett and Sherwen were such fan boys of Armstrong
opportunistic and shameful is the only way to describe hincape's win. cheering for him is like cheering for the parasite to kill the host. zero effort in the entire breakaway and then speeding up to steal the win from the man who put in the most effort. once it was clear armstrong is not chasing or will be needing his help, he should have joined in the effort with the other riders in the breakaway, that is the code. no respect.
Wow, Phil and Paul before they were Phil and Paul.
Yes, Lance....if only you had stuck with that pre-race retirement announcement ...the 7 would still have your name on it.
