      You really aren't adding any significant amount of salt to the water. If your water tastes salty, you're using too much salt. The sodium is created when it regenerates, but quickly dissipates. So it's possible that right after regeneration, the water may have slightly more sodium content, but it shouldn't be enough for you, or anyone else to notice.

    I just bought a house and have a water conditioning system for the first time. This video is very informative but i live in northeast NJ. How often do you have to change the filter tank of a salt system? My salt tank is heavily bridged. Just cleaned it out. I think i need to change the conditioning tank. Do they clog and need to be changed?

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your current water softener. Yes, the resin tank does need to be cleaned out and new resin installed about every 10 years. Keep in mind that a water softener also removes radium from the water which is common throughout the United States. FYI the resin tank typically does not get clogged just the resin (filter material) gets old and loses its ability to work.

    Can a salt free system be used to reduce any calcium built up on pool tiles? I have been told that the “agent” causes calcium to stick less (not not stick) on pool tile. Is that true? Also, are all non salt systems or is one better for this purpose.

    Salt-free softeners don’t exist. These are more like de-scalers or water conditioners. These are not meant to “soften” the water. They simply crystallize the minerals and eliminate calcium build-up on faucets and shower heads, glass doors, etc. Adding a de-scaler to the inlet side of your water heater cold supply line would be a great place for one of these. I don’t like softeners due to the maintenance of adding salt, and they cost a lot compared to de-scalers.

      Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm curious though, why does the video says that it only prevents scale inside the pipes, but according to your experience it seems like it prevents scale buildup on shower heads and faucets as well? This is honestly the only benefit I'm looking for in a softener/conditioner system, as long as I can prevent all that water stains and clogged shower heads, I'd be incredibly satisfied.

    This guy is a salesman for water softeners. I have a salt free softener that works very well. My water is off the charts for hardness, and all my chrome and glass sparkles in my house. I can drink my water now. That never was possible before (for around 20yrs). This man perhaps means well, but obviously hasn't seen the device I have.

      Our water is also VERY hard, our softener uses 20 bags of salt per month, which salt free system did you buy? We have a filter, UV light, softener, RO and then another softener, we have over 900 particle solids and harness over 50, I would like a salt free system to use before or after our current softener to reduce salt usage, it is a new home and our previous well only used 1 bag of salt per month, we didn't know how good we had it

      if you heard him he said not only do they sell the saltless systems, but he is absolutely correct. the "next" media will prevent scale but if you tested you water after it, it will still be hard. you can not and will never be able to get calcium out of your water without a brine solution and backwash. If im wrong, message me and i will personally send you a real water softener. I am the manufactuer that most people get their systems from to resale.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Gene, but we would like to clarify that we aren't just a salesman for salt-based water softeners. We also sell salt-free systems because, as we mention in the video, they are effective at removing scale from plumbing. However, we made this video because we wanted to make sure our customers are aware of what they can't do. By definition, salt-free water softeners cannot remove the bedrock in the water that causes water hardness because they need salt to do that. So, a salt-free system may improve your water slightly, but it simply cannot prevent water hardness. We hope that clarifies our point.

    Should I hook up my new salt free system along with my traditional system? Would using both systems be beneficial?

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. A salt-free system sequesters the hardness minerals, which makes it impossible for them to be removed via the ion exchange process in the salt-based softener. On the other hand, a salt-based softener makes a salt-free softener moot because it removes those specific minerals the salt-free system targets. But depending on which type of salt-free system you have, this direction may differ. But the bottom line is having both is pointless.

    Thanks for this video. I still have a couple questions that I'm hoping you can steer me in the right direction. We live in a 1300sf condo. Our home has really bad hard water, lines the toilets, covers the glass showers and cakes up on our faucets. We are planning to turn this into a rental one day. We also have a tankless water heater. My goal is to extend the life of our water heater and appliances without breaking the bank as we are going to be renting this out. What I'm looking for is an investment that will somewhat hold over time. I am seriously considering the watts OnePlus premier conditioner because it's $550 at home depot. Do you think it's a waste of money to install this system? I really don't want to buy another water heater every 5 years. Is there a salt system that's as economical as the one in considering? I don't know what to do.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello Sae, it's difficult to guess from sitting behind the computer how much calcium, iron or other elements are in your water, the size of your plumbing and the type of pipe used. My concern is the equipment you mentioned might not be adequate or would get clogged easily and reduce or restrict water pressure. I'm happy to talk to you over the phone to give you the best advice for your project. I'm available at 847-312-9431, my name is David Kaiser.
      That said, the equipment you mentioned is very expensive for what it is at $550 when only 47% of the people online recommend it and the filter replacement combo pack is $330. By year 3 this system with the scheduled filter changes actually costs $1,098 for mediocre performance. You mentioned that you want to prevent scale buildup on the shower stall. This unit only claims to prevent buildup inside the plumbing and you would have to heavily clean the shower stall and faucets.
      Understandably investors want their investment properties to be as hands off as possible but even with this device you have to change a filter every year or multiple times a year if you water is truly bad and beyond the specifications of this proposed system. One of the things I do for people is test their water. If you send me a sample in a water bottle I can test it to give you the best guidance possible. It's my pleasure to make sure you have clean healthy water and to protect your investment.

    I have a water softner and the water doesn't feel slippery. But when I had the water tested the test said that it wasn't hard. Also after we take showers we itch and breakout with rashes. Any ideas or solutions? The company I purchased the water softner from doesn't have a clue.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it a well or a municipal water supply? It could be because of the chlorine or chloramine your city uses to treat its water, which can dry your skin out (city supplied). If you are on a well, then there are a number of things that could contribute. But if your company that installed it has no direction to point you in, your first step should be to contact a third party lab that does extensive water testing. See what the water make-up is first (raw), and that will dictate what needs to be addressed. You will also want to ensure all the programming on the installed softener is set correctly to what the hardness of your raw water is.

    I'm looking at buying a home with an operating water softener that is salt based. The water at this house is 521ppm with visible iron clouded in the water. Can I use a non sale based system or must I continue to use the salt based system?

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billy, I love your last name. Ha ha ha. A salt-based system is most likely going to benefit you the most. 521 ppm is a lot of stuff in the water. The majority of that ppm is likely calcium. You want a thorough test on your water so you know exactly how hard the water is. Is salt free product is best for somebody who is on very soft water. Most salt free systems also do not have a backwashing control valve which flushes and cleans the filter material. With a lot of stuff in your water you need to have that. I hope this helps. Have a great day.

      Hey AZAMSHARP. My brother lives in Huston! You can reach out to Depure Water who helped him out. I love removing chlorine out of the water as well as the calcium. You may want to ask them about an Ecowater ERR3702. This is a NSF 44 Certified water softener that is made in America. Ecowater in Minnesota builds this system vs most are now made in China. Unfortunately we find the Chinese stuff is not NSF 44 certified and it stops performing after about 4 years. The Ecowater product tends to last over 10 years! So depending on your budget and how long you plan on living at the home, you can choose accordingly. Don't forget to get a Reverse Osmosis System for you and those kids. You can go to www.ewg.org to see what is in your water. When you see the contaminants listed I assure you you will want to find a system to remove those contaminants for your beautiful kids. Ecowater has a HERO385 which is certified to remove most that are in Huston's water. GOOD LUCK

    Hi. How does the salt-free water softener prevent scale within the pipes? What is the proposed mechanism? Thank you.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The process of a salt-free water softener media use water flow to naturally prevent limescale build up. The process takes hard water (calcium and magnesium) and transforms the ions into microscopic nanocrystals. This suspends the particles so that it cannot “stick” or cause scale while the water travels through. When a water softening system is installed, it will stop your pipes from clogging any further due to hard water residue scale. The limescale will gradually begin clearing out as softer water consistently runs through your pipes.

      No it does not ruin it, you either need an expansion tank which is why your water heaters are getting leaks, or your water softener is old and there is too much sodium residual getting into the plumbing and water heater. Eh, ionized solutions will always be more effective, but are they efficient? Conditioning systems make a lot more sense for city solutions. Where brine softeners seem to be the standard for well water.

    This is so misleading! There are plenty of salt-free water treatments or conditioners that do the things he says the ones he is showing don't. He is only showing the ones that fit his argument. It is so hard to find honest, unbiased information on this because the internet is so overrun with these people with a vested interest in selling you salt based systems.
    For example, he says that unsoftened water will dry your skin. I spent 5 months with a salt system and was developing dry, scaly, itchy patches on both my calves and itchiness in other, more personal areas. Two weeks after switching to a non-salt system all that was gone. I have clean, good tasting water at all my faucets and no water spot problem in my dishwasher or shower. Do your homework, unfortunately you have to dig pretty deep to get beyond all the hype.

      We're sorry you found our video misleading, Mike. We were only reporting what we have found to be true based on our experience with salt-free systems. In our experience, a salt-based system is always a more reliable system. We're sure there are some salt-free systems that do a decent job, but nothing will soften water quite like a salt-based system.
      Thanks for watching!

      He's being very misleading, that's the worst possible salt free system available. Salt systems are terrible for the environment and California has started banning them, it's only a matter of time before other communities do so as well. On top of that the amount of water wasted in the recharge cycle is enormous. It can take up to 185 gallons 1-3 times a week depending on type of softener and how much usage the system gets it's a huge waste of water, and the salt water being pumped out is bad for the planet. There are certainly people being misleading about salt free systems but they're not all the same and that one he's showing you is junk. Ironic that he says he sells it.

      @Jonathan Puga as long as your GPG isn't too high. salt free systems work well for anyplace that has a GPG of 10 or less. The city I'm in sources both well and river water. Our city GPG is on average of 29 GPG and at times as high as 37 GPG. Nearly every household has a water softener here. Our water heaters and coffee pots can't survive without them. Anyone who lives here commonly refers to our drinking water as "liquid rock." Water softener companies thrive well here.

    Actually the improvement in my case is not "slight". It's massive. The device I have is called the Catalyst 1000. It converts calcium into calcite which is a natural water softener. This product is a Canadian invention.
    I can wash my car with it.
    I bought a brand new dishwasher whereas before, we would destroy one in 2-3 years due to corrosion.
    I can now drink my water (impossible up to now)
    I can now use my tap water to wash my windows. Before, this would not have ended well. Hard water will make windows dirtier than before.
    We also use less soap and detergent. No, the difference is certainly not slight.

      Gene, thank you for your comment.
      The product you mentioned is not certified by NSF or WQA for calcium reduction or Radium reduction. Unfortunately this industry is worse than the used car business, people can make any claim they want so we prefer selling systems that a manufacture proved it works with an independent lab. I noticed the website you mentioned highlights only testimonials as proof it works and although those are nice to have they don’t spell out the starting water quality and ending water quality which is important to have from my perspective. We put our name on everything we sell and install so when the system doesn’t work we would refund the client along with shipping! This means we really have to be sure the product works. I will reach out to the Canadian Manufacturer and see if they will send me one and or provide supporting data and independent NSF testing results.
      My recommendation to anyone interested in these systems is to make sure you’ve done your homework and get a guarantee that you’ll get a full refund along with your shipping and handling. I’ve simply seen too many good people get loose money. Again we can sell and install any product and would really love a saltless system. We have yet to see one that really works.
      Thanks again for sharing.

      @@AngelWater you can't please everyone, especially those that need to defend their expensive purchase. As an impartial viewer that's just here for information it looked like you weren't insulting the non-salt products, merely pointing out pros and cons.
      Thanks for the excellent video. I will be contacting you shortly for my water system needs, i have hard water and 9.5 pH on my well along with a good deal of sediment so i have particular needs. I'll look for your response. The one company i got a bid from was 4100 installed, which actually doesn't sound that bad but i want some washable media and maybe a spin down. Anyway looking forward to talking with you.

    Within the first 1 minute and 15 seconds you mislead your audience. You claim that companies say they sell chrome tanks. Visit any reputable company's site, and it CLEARLY states "Chrome Wrapped Tanks". A minute later, you tell another whopper. You say that salt free water filtration companies say they only protect the inside of homes' pipes from scale. You even emphasize this point several times. Once again, a quick visit to the site of a reputable company, and it is very easy to see where they state "protects your appliances from scale".
    You video is very biased towards the product you specialize in, salt based water softeners. I'm sure the "Water Educators" you have available have been trained to do the same. You shouldn't put other products down, especially not with false information, to make yours look better. Give people PROPER information, and let them decide for themselves.
    The best way to find non-biased information is to visit the Water Quality Association website, and check to see if the product you are considering is Gold Seal Certified.

      I write the manuals on water filtration and it is impossible to to have truly soft water without brine and backwash. So called saltless system only prevent scale and nothing more. Its not opinion...its science.

    • @AngelWater
      @AngelWater  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich, I have visited most of the other companies sites and they bury that information or neglect to say it at all. Show me site that clearly states it. Also, if you heard me I said we sold them. We had to refund money because they did not protect the appliances in the home. Im not sure how much calcium you have in your water, but throughout the Chicagoland area we can only see that it will protect the inside of plumbing pipes. Again, it is simple science. You must remove the rock from the water droplet in order to make sure it doesn't scale or build up in the appliance. Please feel free to visit us in Barrington to actually see them in action! Have a great weekend.

    Sorry... Have to disagree. Chlorine is the major cause of dry itchy skin. Salt based softeners are probably OK for those without galvanized pipes. Over time the salt caused horrible rusting problems. Salt-less is the way to go along with a carbon based filter system that removes the chlorine.

I have clogged shower heads, stained shower doors, sink, toilets and faucets from the hard water. My home is brand new and it took less than 6 months for the plumbing fixtures to be ruined.

  • @tonyhwang3888

    Don't say softener, it's a conditioner. Show the bfore installation hardness test and after installation. Preventing scale is not softening water.

  • @jasoncy31

    "Does it prevent scale inside the plumbing? Yes it does".
    Full stop, this is what they are INTENDED to do, and no amount of fast talking F.U.D. spewing salesmanship will refute this. These aren't intended to do what you say they don't do.
    And "a couple thousand dollars"!?! You are ripping people off if you're charging people this amount. We just got a very nice Pelican charcoal filter with a separate water conditioner for around 2k (the conditioner was right at 1k) so your scary price point was off by 2x.
    Sorry, but I wouldn't buy from someone who tries to scare people away from products that they don't sell, or don't have as high a profit margin. These things DO work... if you use them correctly.

      Jason, there are other companies out there that sell these descaler systems as water softeners. Our goal is to educate. We sell salt free systems, but have to be clear with our clients about what the performance will be. Lastly you are correct on the price points, however there are other companies out there that overcharge for something that is just a descaler.
