Phillip is a true monster. I’ve heard him compared to a mix between Stevie Ray and Gary Moore and I can’t hear the Gary Moore influence so I went a listened to Gary Moore playing Red House on the Red Strat I think in 2004 at Fenders 50th Anniversary Stratocaster concert and it was amazing but Phillip has without question talking what Gary did to the next level and then some. Phillip is the only blues player out that can achieve that sound that made me love Live Hendrix and Stevie Ray so much. It’s just mean, screaming blues with bends to the sky and using the Wah to accentuate highs and lows like a treble booster for highs and a sub octave for low notes like Hendrix tended to use it. Hendrix always put the Wah in full toe position when bending on the 15th or 17th fret and it always works and Phillip does the same. Can’t say enough good things about Phillip….and he was an incredible voice with perfect vibrato!
Even Philip playing at home and through a smaller rig, still has the same intensity as he does on stage. Awesome! Also, that cupboard behind him is so cool, very antique style
Phillip is a so good it’s scary. I’ve heard he’s a combination of SRV and Gary Moore and Hendrix but I just listened to Gary Moore playing Red House at Fenders 50th Strat Anniversary concert and it was absolutely insane but Phillip took it to completely new level. Gary was amazing but Phillip is so next level. But that’s evolution and I think if Phillip was around in the 1960’s, 1970’s or even 80’s he would he of gone down as one of the all the time greats. I hope he still does because man….he is easily one of the best players I’ve ever heard and as far as electric blues players there’s, Hendrix, Stevie Ray, Jeff Beck ( somewhat fusion but amazing blues player ) Dicky Bette’s, Duane Allman, Derek Trucks and then Phillip. Can’t forget Eric Gales, Bonamassa or Kenny Wayne Sheppard either but man Phillip just does that thing that made me love Jimi and Stevie so much and even though Eric goes to that place sometimes, he throws a lot of diminished and Phrygian licks mixed in to his playing and crazy cool chords. As far as straight, mean, rude, screaming blues played until you’re pouring sweat, Phillip is the modern king.
Philip legitimately makes it feel like the guitar is alive and talking. Without a doubt him and Jesse Davie are my fav modern guitar players. I've legit watched this video about 10 x now. I really wish Philip would put his music back on Apple Music though, been begging over a year now 🥺
Philip is a machine gun on the guitar and we would love to see him on stage in the near to come future some day. We stay in the South Carolina area so I hope that he tours near there ....awesome video and thank you.....Freddie
Awesome guys, thank you so much! I m still wondering how Philip can use his fuzz on a clean fender amp and have this sound, the princeton must be breaking up?It would have been super cool to have the sound of the amp only and the settings :)
Yeah I bought a Princeton for the house. It’s still pretty loud for the bedroom. I have wood floors and paper thin walls throughout the house. I also just bought an orange duel terror it has 2 tiny terrors in it but one is modified to have more gain it also has killer cleans. It’s like a Marshall and a Vox had a baby on the cleans. What’s cooler is u can cut the power in half by turning off 2 tubes so it still sounds good.
A well biased fuzz + cranked tube amp and pretty much volume rolled back on the guitar is a nice way to get good sound out of it. And use neck PU, always ;)
Wow, the Texas Square Face is a badass. I've used a bunch of fuzz pedals and this one is always better to me. While 103's have been used in other pedals, I'm not sure what Diaz did to it.
Good episode Nik. Im surprised you dont have a reactive load box yet. Bedroom blasting at high decibels certainly shortens the amount of time you can abuse yourself before you have to stop.
I have been reviewing Sayce videos during the Christmas holidays and I have seen that he has changed the neck on Mother? Am I right? I have seen it with a maple fingerboard and also with a 70s style headstock.... what happened to it? Great content in this channel! I have put my SRV chops back
Hi man, I would like to ask your advice... I'm buying a Fender Frontman 212, do you think that i can get a sort of philip sayce tone with that? I never used fender amp, but in this last period i'm really obsessed by Philip's sound and this amp is really affordable... what do you think about it? Cheers and great playing!
Loved it man great idea for a series. Sayce is such a monster player.
Robert « daddy » baker your the monster man ❤️

Couldn't agree with you more
Damn he can play!!!
Love Philip Sayce!!!
Awesome video...
AWESOME you can tell philip is not playing that loud because you can hear the acoustics of the guitar very cool.
His utilization of the lower strings is outstanding.
Brutal tones and playing!
the absolute man!

So awesome! Philip is one of my favorite players!!! I appreciate all that you do!!
Two-tone bend on the high e = thumbs up ☯️👍
Great, as always, thank you!!!!
Love you guys!
So inspiring !

At 5 seconds in when you drop down to first position and work your way back up the neck. So funky!
Awesome video Nik! Thanks for sharing!

I think that amp is quite a way from a Princeton
That's how you get glassy classic strat cleans buy using a fuzz pedal and turn your guitar volume knob down to 6-7
You gotta run your Princeton 6 and up on the volume! Sweet spot seems to be anywhere between 6.5-7.5 on most fender amps
@@joshmuz9018 your right i use the pedal pawn fuzz for that tone it`s really killer.
Philip is the best!!🔥👍
DAMN PHIL DON'T BEND LIKE THAT! This was a good idea Nik!
Mr sayce is the best welsh guitarist ever

Very cool Nik! I've been on the "low volume" thing for a while due to other people working from home.
So good!
That’s some great playing. I’m a gigging musician looking to buy a new amp any recommendations? It will be in the same blues, rock style.
Great video, thanks !
That vibrato 💪
Yes !!! 🔥🔥🔥

Wtf is that bend at 3:10? Sick!
Great video
What is that riff at 3:27?

Wow
Lol didn’t get to see how Phil would play that acoustic Strat, we got one G chord.
Don't Attenuators allow us to have our tones set and then turn down the volume?
No
this strat looks like the one rory gallegher had
Hey pedal addicts my landgraff MO D distortion box made by John is now on e bay blows rock box away! Rarest made by John himself .
Nik why don't you get Mr. Baker on the channel?
Big Bob?
I thought he was Welsh?
Tons are great but I prefer my digs over vintage gear! House might get condemned! Yikes !!
Guarantee he is still call-the-cops-loud...for an apartment?
No shit lol
That’s an apartment? That place......looks very....rough. Sheets on the walls......very old doors.....moldy wardrobe. I’d have the blooze too !!!
Lol Sayce is a social justice warrior
That wardrobe behind Phillip likely has mold in it. Man stay away from that !
if he calm down his rough playing just a little he would be an awsome new srv!!
