I swear by it, the two things you need (besides fingers) is the guitar and amp. For fucks sake, fingers are the most important, but having a strat with a good tube amp, you can achieve any sound. Overdrive it and you've got philip sayce. Those are by far the biggest factors to tone
PS , has anyone heard Michael Landau play at the bake potato doing Hendrix? It will blow your mind . He can go into fusion in a split second . His resume is kinda huge . 😉
Philip plays with Lots of Treble and pretty much Reverb. try something like Treble at 8 or 9 in a Super reverb or Twin reverb. you will get a pretty identic sound.
Okay, I can't find the answer anywhere. Go to 3:48 and pause. What's the pink pedal in the top right? What's the red pedal on the bottom left? and what the black pedal just above the red one that's hard to see?
Philip is a great guitar player fo sho , he can't write lyrics like Hendrix, and front a trio at 24 years old though , and scare EVERY blues and rock player alive in 1967 , paving uncharted territory, not copying. Check out Henrik Fleishlader , doing foxey lady, he kills every Hendrix Experience touring guy, and I was on Satriani and Johnson payroll to see it every night . I used to use 12 -56 strings , forever , now I play 9-38 , just like Jimi . The tone is way cooler to me , it makes the effects like fuzz act different , than with big strings. Doyle , Philip , Johnson, Philip, all big string fans, the tone is not anywhere near Jimi with big strings, fyi.
Did you read my second comment?? "I happen to think his playing is freakin' awesome". In my first comment I was replying to Unchainedmelody86, just stating facts and my second comment was in response to Carl Macedo.
This guy is a monster!
Hope he gets the recognition he truly deserves.
Great tone and very good player. Would love to see him live! I think sayce has huge SRV influences in his playing.
I got that Super Reverb...yessss!! Didn´t know that Philip uses it and I´m a huge Sayce fan!
I have a Marshall amp jtm45. An I have a blue sky reverb so how I make a reverb like this. Thank you
@@Avim111 yeah not the same as a super reverb amp...thank you
Sayce gets better every time I see him. Humble guy too.
Oh c'mon - we only just got started!! :-/
He's a real genuine guy. I wish they'd show his amp settings,
love his tone. Cheers

Proof that old, battered gear still gets the best tone.

😆 this guy is not only a badass bluesman but he's funny and seems pretty cool, too.
The Man
fender super reverb is the ultimate stevie ray vaughan amp!
The red pedal on the left is Diaz tremodillo.
You and Jimmy Herring Love REVERB. To each their own I guess. Jimmy uses a volume pedal to control his reverb and adjust to the room he's playing in.
@1Guug its behind the guitarist magazine logo ontop of the fender cab
@Tomcatblues
thank you for all great informations TOM !!

He's hard on amps.he plays at 11!
upon further investigation, the black one is the keeley true bypass looper. red one is probably some kind of a fuzz. I don't know the pink one..

YEAHHHH!!!!!
The Best!
Mick Taylor?
The pink pedal is a Diaz square face fuzz.
he is very soft-spoken...
0:43 what happened?
Censored a cuss lol.
what is the year of the super reverb ?
Someone knows??
...listen to his albums, he always uses them in studio
yea the BEST
So is this better than the Sire Marcus Miller bass?
The 90s rave scene called, they want their outdated fashion back Phillip
I’m happy that I found this gay he is master guitar player he is my favorite.
- "Mick, here!"
- "Phil, here!"
no way its the vibroverb with the 15 inch speaker, the super reverb was just a little added spice
Right! Got one, will never ever sell it...
I guess around 1970
0:36 you a lucky
Phillip Suace
saucage?
Steam Roller riff at the beginning of the video ;)
1969 I believe.
I wonder if he's ever heard of SRV???
I shouldn't talk trash. My setup sounds just like Cream era Clapton.
@CMSpida watched the video like 10 times and didn't realized it, not even now xD
Why does he look different in every video?
o shit i always call you philip sauce
Where did he buy he coat? The rugby rioter store?
Lol! he's great :)
@CMSpida yeah that thing does 90% of his tone xD

kenny wayne shepherd does backwater blues to :/
0.44 = LOL
Every guitar tone you ever heard in your live has problably been recorded with the sm57, so no...not really
needs more reverb
lol any one else see that little micro marshall
His tone isn't original. That's Stevies. His songs aren't anything like Srv. I admire that.
Cool aid, bro.
Hendrix more
omg that outfit is hideous
Ack! That tone is terrible! I'm sure it's better in person, but that is just painful on this video. Yuck.
cosmogang it is on a cell phone that’s 8 years old 😂 really man
Too SRV to me. Get your own tone. Great player though. personally I hate (strong word) his tone.
Have you listened to any of his songs? Doesn't really sound like SRV
lol, I just watched 5 videos of him, and they all sounded like SRV/Hendrix.
To each his own. SRV tones give me chills down deep. His phrasing is unique and powerful. Love it
Totally agree with you, I was't dissing Philip with my previous comment, I was just stating facts.
I happen to think his playing is freakin' awesome!
