Always loved Philips Sayce's version of "As the Years Go Passing By" you quoted there at the beginning I constantly nick those licks!!! Very nice playing.
gawsh dude you sound heavenly. Please come down to houston some time, Tommy Katona is here alot im not sure if yall interact but thatd be an awesome show. Scout bar would love you
Killer playing and tone my friend.....no shit 👍......Tin Pan Alley which is alot of the riffs your blowing here ....particularly the version SRV does on In the Beginning and Ronnie Earl's Rego Park Blues on the Live in Europe Album are in my opinion 2 of the most devastating examples of slow blues and the use of dynamics ever recorded. Cheers man ...love it 🤠🤘
Great playing man, could you please just elaborate a little more on hybrid picking you used here in one of the next videos, like a short, short tutorial...? Been listening to such licks for ages and I could never make it sound just right.
I just ran across your channel last night and I dig it! I’m a huge SRV guy and play with my 3rd and 4th fingers using a pick too. I’m a huge fan of Monte Montgomery and first saw him pick this way. I didn’t know Stevie picked this way at times. Listening to you do it Stevie must have, sounds just like those fast fluid riffs! I’m looking forward to your channel and have referred a few guys to subscribe, I hope they do. Your talent and knowledge is outstanding your channel needs to grow! Best of luck! Btw, I was born in Oak Cliff Tx. and lived within walking distance from Stevie but I was too young at that time. I’ve been a SRV fan for 25 yrs. or so and have played guitar in SRV style, own a SRV Signature strat, researched , collected yrs of STEVIE thangs and attended a SRV lecture and bought books from Craig Hopkins one of the top SRV historians out there on Stevie. All this to say I’m not easily impressed with others doing Stevie thangs but you’re all that and a bag a chips my man!!
you should watch storing speakers like that as it is going to ruin/degauss the magnets (i am assuiming they are both of the same make/model). store magnets north to south/south to north- small things like pickups are easy to remagnetize, speakers aren't
Hey Nik. Just discovered your channel. Really enjoying the lessons- Amazing tone and playing. Been chipping away at this style for a while now and your vids have really inspired me. Dig your heart and vibe. Keep up the great work. Would love to see a video on getting an old Deluxe reverb to sound like that SRV tone. Mods, tubes, speakers etc.
Thanks again Nik. May I ask what you're using in the signal chain? I can hear reverb but can't tell is there is a little bit of delay. As a follow up, is that just the natural breakup on the amp or are you pushing it with a pedal? I have to tell you, listening to your playing first thing in the morning is a heck of a nice way to start off my day.
please tell me, does Stevie control the dynamics by compressing the pick, or does he squeeze it all the time with the same force and only hits the string with different force?
That Strat ( and your playing of course ) sounds killer . May I ask info about the guitar ? Pick up , strings and stuff nerds like ? Also kinda love the reverb u using
Alberto Colombo sure man. Its my 1959 stratocaster. All pickups and electronics are stock 1959. There are a few videos on here discussing the guitar! Thanks for your interest!
ye you probably can gauge string isnt that big of a deal to the sound but if you wanna be exact maybe try using them hybrid strings where you can get 11 gauge for your bass strings and then 10s for your top 3 strings
Is that hybrid pick you’re doing with your right hand the reason SRV’s able to do those runs so fast? I haven’t been able to find a live video where it’s obvious, but it kind of looks like he does at certain times
The Riff w Nik Sevigny thanks! I’ve been listening to his live versions the last week said I’d sit down and learn it haven’t had the time. Thanks for video and knowledge. I to use my other fingers to pick as much as I can to change the dynamics it really has a cool effect
YOU ARE GIVING AWAY THE SECRETS!
Good shit man, really good advice.
Always loved Philips Sayce's version of "As the Years Go Passing By" you quoted there at the beginning I constantly nick those licks!!! Very nice playing.
It's crazy how Philip blew up. I'm 44 and been watching him throw down in the LA circuit since I was 20... He's a great soul.

Nice Feel bud. You're a good player. Refreshing.

That neck looks like a toy in your massive Fred Flintstone hand....Very impressive playing!
That's the most bassiest NMQ (neck/middle quack) I've ever heard!
Nice video
Great vid!
Just saw this video again after some time, man, your playing is just awesome.
Thank you. Trying to get better!
Thanks again Nik.

I have to tell you, listening to your playing first thing in the morning is a heck of a nice way to start off my day.
Just the amp. Tommy cougar made a custom reverb tank for my super reverb and it sounds like a huge arena hha
Great sound!!
Whats pick do you use? Do you play with tip ou rounded shape ?
Thank
HEY NIK! oh man i had to stop the video right away because of that tele custom in the background i have always wanted one of those!!!!
ben galvin just picked it up yesterday!

SuperSoulRox thank you so much! Let me know what you want to see!
The Riff w Nik Sevigny Roger that✌🏽🎶
please tell me, does Stevie control the dynamics by compressing the pick, or does he squeeze it all the time with the same force and only hits the string with different force?
Fantastic. What amp is this?

Yes subscribe and get all the good stuff 👍
Can you get srv sound with 9.5 to 44 gauge strings. I can't play any larger as I have very small hands and if I try bigger strings I can't even play.
ye you probably can gauge string isnt that big of a deal to the sound but if you wanna be exact maybe try using them hybrid strings where you can get 11 gauge for your bass strings and then 10s for your top 3 strings

Yesss. 100%. Live in tokyo 85 has some close ups of his right hand
What kind of pick and string brand, gauge etc please?
CHeck the rig rundown video!
Rake I believe it is called
Hey man are you in Austin by chance?
Aggiebelz no sir
string gauge?
Curt mangan 11-56
I'm pretty sure Philip uses false nails on his right hand.
Every guitar looks tiny with your hands. And most guitar players will look tiny with your playing.
Teach us years go passing by Phillip style!
He played the intro to As the years go passing by after the first 20 seconds though!
X Fighter yessir! All the chords are there Bm, Em , F#m9. And then its all the feeling you can put into the notes! Good Luck and have fun with it
teach it your own way with your ear! You do lern more...
