I had a 1972 Datsun 240Z in the same color in 1977. Loved it. Routinely cruised at 110 mph on Colorado's highways. Paid $1500 for it.

Funny enough- This vehicle has 2 aftermarket body pieces on it- So its not exactly a "drawing board" vehicle. On top of that, those "doofy flares", are actually part of a factory option in japan.
@@SidewaysGts I'm well aware of the original flares and other add ons like the G-nose. I'm talking about the type that require butchering the original sheet metal. Just my personal preference, carry on.
@@SidewaysGts the factory flares were a bit naff, though, but the body kit almost mandatory, as the stock body aerodynamics lift the car UP on its suspension at speed.

FWIW:
The G-Nose, despite how it looks, didnt really improve aerodynamics- And actually made them worse (Worse drag, and lift). The benefits from the ZG kit "overall", came almost entirely from the flares- Which reduced drag off the wheels slightly.
Theres a community known as HybridZ- Which like the name may hint at, is dedicated to modifying/improving the Z cars. Impressively enough they, as a community, actually got funds together and rented out a proper, full sized wind tunnel- And tested any and every "popular" modification / configuration around in the community. Unsurprisingly, MANY things people "thought" for years (Oh, do THIS because its WAY better for aero!), were laughably wrong. Most of us thought for decades that the G nose was superior (i mean look at it, how could it not be!), reality was: It wasnt.
They also decided to post these test results to the public / rest of the community (originally those behind it considered keeping it to those who chipped in money for the wind tunnel, but thankfully the decision was made to share all the data), and it can readily be found (You can google HybridZ windtunnel test data to find it). All in all they tested nearly 30~ configurations / modifications. (Zg nose, flares, drop vent hoods, popping the hood, blocking off the grille, ducts here and there, ride heights, rake, belly pants, on and on)
@@racketman2u I had my stock 260Z up at speed and it became very floaty and scared the shit out of me at the time, next day I went looking for spoilers, yeah so I would say just mandatory rather than almost. :)

A beauty 😍 mine was a 1976 280z fuel injection with a rare rpm gauge that displayed 9000 rpm, vin number, specs etc was in Japanese, but left hand drive. I was rear ended by BMW made me crash another car, the driver of the BMW drove away. My beautiful red Datzun died that day.

Were talking about a replica car from a source material known as Wangan Midnight (Which started as a manga, and was later mater into various movies and an anime). That specific vehicle, has flares- And its not a "perfect replica", without them.

Not to crazy about the front fender mirrors.Just my opinion.Owned a 1970 orange 240Z back in the day.
The original Japanese Fairlady 240Z had the front fender mirrors as normal in Japan. They had to move them to be Legal in the USA. So the ones we saw were not original design.

just the color of the car should have been darker so it really matches the wangan one and some side fenders, but a big thumbs up for this build.

@@douglaserwinbrandt181 Actually the OP is correct. I didn't know back then. YES in the cartoon it was a 240z. BUT in real life...it was a ZX. Search a video by the "Albon" channel..and it's about the midnight club...the origin of the Wangan Midnight story.

who cares? the original Z deserved a better colour range than it got anyway.
Universal blue on the 240Z was about as close to the medium blue on the devil Z as the real car was gonna get. Too bad Datsun never made a true medium metallic blue color like WRB on the BRZ or Innocent Blue Mica on the FD.

Car is beautiful but those wheels got to go.
Definitely not a "perfect replica", just a blue 240 with some rims. Wrong blue, no fog lights, mirrors are chrome not black, exhaust etc are all different on the Devil Z. Still nice though.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas
station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be
banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine
and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027
on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any
longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. so beware of expensive cars today they will be forbidden and worthless tomorrow!!!! :-(((((

@@TheSaturnV Biggest problem is China, China told our EU politicians that they wont do any business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China to 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China....:-(
