Yeah, when my mum was gifted a super expensive enterprise Dell laptop in 2009, I thought it would run anything on the planet. Bought Prototype because it looked super fun, spend the night installing it only to never get into game because of an unsupported iGPU from the 70's.

I think Shadow started as a game-streaming company, but then got bought up by a enterprise-streaming-service, which then sold off about 2/3 of the GPUs at the height of the scalpocalypse and seems to now use the name.

      - I was one of those customers that had data leaked, they emailed me 6 WEEKS after it was stolen, SIX WEEKS after, meaning the thieves had PLENTY of time to cause havoc with my information and I would not have known at all (thankfully my accounts are secure and this did not happen, but it could have and Shadow did not tell me in time).
Shadow PC has many flaws and in my opinion, is only really useful for running AI-Models and 4K/8K Video rendering, where you can use the GPU and CPU to their fullest.
      - They offer an RTX 6000 24GB GPU with 48GB Ram and a 24-Core or something CPU. This is NOT RTX 4080 or even 3090 performance but that massive VRAM, DRAM and core-count is very useful for AI-Training, rendering high-quality videos and so on.

@2:24, you said it perfectly and correctly. It is convoluted so you can spend more money, full stop. 22$ a month is a LOT for the Ps+ Ultimate final mix upgraded super-ultimate, super-mega bundle of stuff, but as you said, you do get access to all those games. I have a normal Ps+ membership ($60/yr) and there is stuff on there that I don't get the better option(s) for, like X-game for free or the opportunity to play something for a certain amt of time before purchasing. This last one I've seen once.
I use the PS Remote play constantly, when my wife is watching tv in the living room and I am in my computer room and wanting to play on the Ps5, I can do that. The only thing that sucks about it is that the quality sometimes dips and the stream gets grainy. It might be different if I was on a wired connection, but somehow I doubt that. I do have to admit thought that when I do use it, 95% of the time my stream is very good and the quality & responsiveness is actually pretty damn good.

When I switched to an ethernet connection it was almost as if I was sitting at my own PC, although input lag was still noticeable. I imagine the issue you had with the cloud and chromebook was a combination of awful android software, linked with the wifi connection issues. Overall, I've tried a bunch of cloud gaming services over the years and none really come close to replacing an actual PC thanks to input latency and streaming problems. I was not in the slightest surprised when Stadia shut down.

it certainly isn't cheap but I think it has its niches, I pay for ultimate (parents pay for internet anyways) and considering I am stuck with a Mac mini only atm, it works in a pinch for the moment for some competitive games until I get a proper PC again. Because I do have a high refresh rate monitor I can actually take advantage of that tier and get low latencies, like similar to what I'd prob get at 60 FPS natively, still worse than the 165 framerate's native latency, but good enough and not as sloggy as running GFN at 60 FPS.
hopefully in the future I can move on but my main problem is I want to keep the Mac around for ARM development and thus I don't need just a second hand card but all the parts I need over time.

I used to be a big fan of Shadow back before all the problems started, but they've had major financial issues the past few years, when they first came out their specs were really decent for the price and worked fine (same ones you had actually) but over the course of 6 years the specs haven't changed and the price remained the same, instead they just bolted on even more expensive options for more money.
They do offer storage btw, the option you picked is for extra storage, which is actually on a HDD device so slow as anything.
They also closed down quite a few datacenters and were eventually bought out by Hertzner (Dont know what happened after that). Which meant people who were subscribed could suddently be half a continent away from a data center and go from usable to 100+ ping consistently and drops in connection.
If this was 2018/19 yeah I would say it's worth it, now I'd say youre better off just getting a cheap pc like an optiplex and popping a low profile card in, costs about the same as half a year with shadow but you're getting something you own.

In general I think that many subscription based services (whether it's cloud gaming or other productivity stuff, like Microsoft Office or Adobe products) it does allow people who otherwise may be don't have $500 cash sitting around, to get started, even though over the long term it does cost more (of course for things like ADobe or Microsoft products, subscription is pretty much the only option -- there really isn't a perpetual license for many things anymore, except maybe OSes and a few other things). So I'd say for the most part "yes" I think cloud gaming may still be a thing, especially for those who can't fork over the money for a system and games, but could do maybe $20 per month. In my experience having used Xboxs Cloud Gaming app(Before it was what it is now) and the QA testing i've done in others(Stadia, Geforce Now, Playstations(I have no idea what it's called now) The best of them was definitely the Xbox services. The downside was at the time it was ONLY testing on Mobile, so to play you had to be using an Android Tablet or Phone, and to be honest, playing on smaller screens for the few games they had available and testing just wasn't a great experience, despite everything else about it being solid.
Stadia was a complete joke(Beta tested the Division 2 with it, since that's what Ubisoft wanted.) It was a MESS. Servers were laggy and input latency would sometimes be great, and other times so awful you'd be waiting 2-3 seconds for the input to actually occur. It also had WILDLY varying image quality. Sometimes it would look fantastic and sometimes it would look like a 160p video on Twitch.
That all said, The Playstation service was fine, on an actual sony Console. I tested on my Vita way back when and had a good experience for the most part, but they had a lot of games that were just not working on the Vita at the time I tested it, which killed my impression of it quite a lot.
I've also used Geforce Now(only the free tier currently...I haven't needed any cloud services for quite a while) and it was alright. I wouldn't say it blew me away or anything, but I also find a lot of nitpicks for quality and input latency and at least in my experience it was bad enough that it didn't feel great playing with it. Granted it's been a few years at this point, so it's probably much better now. But I just haven't seen any REAL use for these devices. They're not really great in any way. Something important to note with all of these tests as well is they were all done wired if possible(The Vita one wasn't) with gigabit internet. So it wasn't just my internet being slow that was causing these issues.
If you're willing to go through the process of setting it up, there's something called Rainway which you can set up across 2 devices and you can stream one PC to the other. With 2 PCs with a wired connection across a house, I was able to set up a tiny little PC on a TV and stream my gaming PC to it to play games, and it was FAR better than the cloud services in terms of input latency and display quality, that was something I did within the last year or so, to a pretty good result. I've not tried it recently, but I basically just ended up buying a Steam Deck and use that to stream Steam games to from my PC if I'm not AT my PC when I play. I also did the blasphemous thing and set WIndows up on it so that I can open up ALL the games, and not have to fight with Linux to use anything else. There are games from places like GOG where I have the offline installers and getting those to actually work in Linux was hit and miss and REALLY frustrating.

Game Pass cloud works well here in Japan, and is not expensive (about half as much as the UK if I recall correctly). I don't really feel any significant control latency and the stream visual quality is normally fine (it can get a bit artifacty in the late evening, when the load on the servers is presumably high). Ease of use and flexibility of device and use scenario is great. Overall, I think it's a good service for a semi-casual gamer who just wants to enjoy some game time but doesn't want to invest in expenisive hardware and games.

Honestly, yeah, I think the best use case for cloud gaming at the moment is buying a $70-100 USB-C controller, strapping it to your phone, and playing either the free tier of GFN or XCloud if you're already a Game Pass user. It's always been a value add proposition, and spending additional money on it is stupid unless you happen to live directly above a server farm.

Also as long as you have a Prime membership you can play Ubisoft games in your library, though they had to be purchased on Amazon, Epic, or Ubisoft Connect and not Steam (fuuuuuuu....). Assuming the plug isn't pulled like it was with Stadia and proper investments are made, Luna does have the grounding to be a dominant player player in the cloud gaming space.

I think I've only really had two experiences with cloud gaming.
My first might been with Playstation's old cloud gaming service in we payed to rent digital copies of individual PS3 games rather than subscribing to the service. It worked well for most games I tested on my PS Vita. I remember having a decent time playing The Last of Us and played through the entire story of Bioshock Infinite. My worst experience on it however iirc was Saints Row 4. Compared to other games I rented on that service, I just didn't have a good time having lower frame rates and higher latency (also the game was just kind of... meh).
My second and much more recent is streaming my Steam games from my desktop to my Steam Deck. Its excellent because I get my desktop's performance on the handheld while also saving lots of battery on the Deck. Unfortunately I've had some weird visual bugs and I have to occasionally redo the settings that will allow the game audio from the desktop to play through the Steam Deck speakers; which is annoying, but easy to fix.
