I would like them to let players build their bases from scratch....like fallout 4 settlement building system...in which the player is in full control of building wall by wall and every other aspect of the settlement....or at the very least, let the player add substantial upgrades to the predetermined bases, like upgrades walls, to be able to move and remove items like car wrecks and use them for crafting materials like scrap metal to reinforce walls or make metal stuff, also the ability to add better defenses to deepen the immersion, like mounted machine guns and spotlights maybe even automated drones that can identify friend or foe...

I personally would love to see in State Of Decay 3 them doing away with these pre-built bases, and/or making there MORE to do with them. Because (in my opinion) it would be much cooler to see a system implemented where you could like (maybe at a huge cost of influence or materials) secure buildings 1 by 1 and connect them into your own unique base. Maybe you take 1 house for 500 INF, and then it gets a small space for a single buildable slot and includes like 2 beds for free and then you could either build fences around the perimeter manually, or they'd spawn/generate around any territory you claim/link to expand your base.
Then every additional building (based on distance/size) you add would become gradually more expensive and start requiring more resources to maintain. It'd allow players to actually create our own original bases/communities without all just picking (the best) bases every time and could allow them to make running a community more of a challenge. That way the bigger you expand, the more costly it becomes, and the easier it is to get conflict between survivors. Eventually it becomes just harder to defend overall as you're just getting SOOO much attention from the undead, and you'd be faced with challenges like out of the zombie films where you risk having your community collapse because of infighting or resource depletion. Plus having a community of like 10+ people could allow them to add events where maybe someone unhappy becomes a traitor and opens the gate during a siege, or if they implemented your members going on scavenging runs like in SOD 1, they could have someone get bitten and try to hide it (at which point if you aren't actively caring about your community or paying attention to them, you'd miss the signs and they'd turn in-base and attack someone).
Overall I just LOVE the S.O.D games and I believe that they showed over the last year with their continued updates/support that they have a TON of potential still left to keep these games fresh and gradually improve upon what makes them so fun.

    • @NathaNeil27
      @NathaNeil27 2 ปีที่แล้ว +18

I like your idea. I think a good rule would to only allow players to claim 1 building for each person in their community. The survivors dont necessarily have to live in a building by themselves but limiting players to have only 11 buildings if they have 11 survivors seems perfectly fair.

    • @angelcadena8052
      @angelcadena8052 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Idk if it's true but state of decay 3 might be a free build for the bases. Implying u get to choose every slot n everything is breakable so that u can replace the prebuilt facility with something else of ur choosing

    • @sgg3586
      @sgg3586 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

@@NathaNeil27 I think that it would also be interesting if they raised the cap of survivors, or removed it entirely. Then maybe just add a difficulty scale for having more people. So that eventually if you decide to build a big fortress with 30 people inside, you'd get massive hordes of zombies attacking (or just lot's of special zeds), major resource penalties, morale penalties, and it would make you actually be required to actively be engaged with your community and making sure the place is running smoothly. Then if everything goes to heck and zombies overrun the place and kill almost everyone, the difficulty would drop down again and you could take your survivors and start over.
Because I'm personally a big fan of management/community-building games, and I always felt like S.O.D had more room for making you feel like an actual leader and having to be in that position of responsibility. While at the same time if they had like difficulty scaling they could also reward players who prefer smaller communities/play-styles by giving bonuses that offset less people/resources.

I for one would not like full customizable bases (like Fallout 4 Settlements) but I'd really like the ability to spend materials and influence to fortify bases, like strengthen the walls, close the gaps and increase the safe zone around it. Also the ability to spend materials and influence to clean up the map per zones, which would remove wrecked cars from the road and allow us to drive around easier.

I actually really love the Fortified Bridge in Cascade Hills, I know it's not the "best" base on the map but the location is still pretty good and it has got to be the easiest base to defend in the game. Only two entry points which are covered by the walkways ontop of the bridge in which two survivors can be placed with guns. I ran this base with 6 survivors and it's such a unique base compared to all the others in the game. I enjoy it even if it isn't the most powerful.

When I play providence ridge I usually b-line the truck stop. The free watch tower is great for clearing the local area, and during the tutorial you claim an ammo outpost. Power and water are easy to get on the map, and the two large spots means you can build almost whatever you want. The biker kitchen makes it a solid option for a trade leader, since you can make moonshine. It's not as good as the distillery on Meagher valley, but it's a nice boost to influence.

The bridge fort is absolutely amazing. #1 pick for Cascade Hills
If you have your active survivor as gunslinger you just stand in the middle with an energy drink and lay em out. No mazes or corners clear line of sight. If shit gets outta hand though just run to safest edge and climb a ladder and throw down a pipe bomb to clear the mob.
My first time here it was "safe" between two plague hearts. It was like going to war with the zeds just non stop assault fire and all the plague samples i could ask for. This nostalgic moment and how easy it is to defend sold me on bridge fort. 10/10 for small groups of survivors.
Cascade Hills though... Every base has the same problem... The number of living people in your base. Seems like theres never enough beds and all your free play slots/outpost go to beds which is why container fort is usually a must if ur there for the long play. I never have a problems with resources on this map but the moral and fatigue is real

Main buildings I understand are already built, so in real life you are not likely to tear down a building. i wish they added more bases into the game, i always wanted to have the hospital as a base,
But the main thing i wanted which i was disappointed in were better outposts, yes they added it so you could upgrade them to get better perks, but i always wanted them to act as minibases, and allow you to build them up in certain ways depending on what they were, or even have you build your own facilities in them for the larger ones and have the ability to move your own guys or an enclave into them, maybe if you take a gunshop you can build a sniper tower on the roof and it could double the radius of defence and add the call sniper support when you move an enclave into it, or you could turn it into an ammo factory, have an enclave crafting bullets for you and if you pay fuel or something they could even make bombs.
turn houses into bunk houses where more people can sleep in but it causes mini hordes there more often, or turn it into a scout house where in a huge radius you get the scout ability and it gives you the ability to call an ally or one of your guys as back up who will show up as a companion.
turn medical facilities into makeshift hospitals, you could send guys there rather than build an infirmary in your base by building it there and having an enclave or a doctor move in there from your community. or turn it into a plague research facility where you provide them with plague samples and get free plague weapons.
simple things like that would add so much more to the game, it would mean outpost locations mean a lot it would help push you towards other bases too, if you can build beds, infirmary, shooting ranges and kitchens elsewhere then why would you need so many build spots? you could stick with a smaller more central base like the bridgefort the whole way through, if you wanted you could even take a more advantageous outpost somewhere more central and use that as a command centre where you do all your looting and minibase management from rather than your main base, i feel like its not an outlandishly huge change that would add so much more to the game

I love Container fort, it's massive base with very good natural defenses, and it has plenty of spots, both small and large so you can customize it as you want. Also I think it comes with built-in workshop, which is great as it saves you material to build\upgrade it, and you can tear it down if you don't need it, for example if you have Red Talon Workshop. I personally use some mod which makes Armory and Workshop integrated into one facility, so I don't really need that workshop, instead I build Red Talon barracks.

Nice review, covering almost everything necessary. I do have 2 counter points though:
    - You left out the biggest advantage of Container Fort: it is basically a huge watchtower with almost everyone on the wall shooting, only 2 carefully guarded entrances and 1 weak point for zombies to climb in (provided they can get through the rain of bullet). Easily the most defensible base in the entire game.
    - Huge fuel storage and latrine are generally waste of slot. There is no reason to hoard fuel and you have far superior facilities for morale (still, RT officer quarter and lounge). Rosie's truckstop is alright because the storage is also a watchtower, but Mike's concrete is flat out bad.

I feel like the Warehouse in Providence is pretty good. Has around the same number of slots as Mike's, I believe, but it's bonus is that it grants a bonus to all storage. That said, there are four doors in the fence, and a few spots the zombies can climb in, but overall I've found it to be actually pretty decent.

The container base is THE best in the game imo. Sure, it is on the bottom of the map so driving is needed but I like driving around, it adds to this immersive survival-like feeling. It has every single outpost type around it including electricity, water and silo. It is the esiest base to defend and it has 3 parking slots surrounded by walls so it can be blocked by cars and make a car defensive wall and it can carry up 10 people. What else you could want from a late game base really.

I just started playing this game, I ended up in Providence Ridge first game and when I had to move the first time I moved to the Truck stop and never left since, I have 9 members and basically doing perfectly fine on normal difficulty. I built 2 beds and 1 small workshop inside, 1 small garden and 1 large field hospital outside and kept the car workshop and with outposts all of my needs are basically met. I have 1 electricity, 1 water tower, 1 ammo, 1 food, 1 material and 1 gas outpost atm, all of my consumptions are 0 or higher and morale is through the roof (I also have a survivor skill, that got me +2 beds and a morale boost).

I agree with all of your choices, EXCEPT for the Corner Office. Although it’s easily defendable, it’s very close to the zombie spawn points which can lead to many sieges and ultimately, more community members being injured and possibly more deaths.

On lower difficulties where it isn't much of a problem, using corner office for its map convenience is perfectly fine, even when juggs spawn literally next door.
But when the risk is much greater, a little but of map location convenience and a unique base design just doesn't outweigh the benefits you would be able to get from the more out-of-the-way bases

This really showed me how varied people preferences can be because for me Cascade Hills has some of my favourite bases in the game, I love to do small community runs where I only have 4-5 people for my whole play through, for these Bridge Fort is my absolute favourite base in the entire game. I also love the Corner Office for these runs too when I'm on Cascade Hills and feel like something a bit different. Church on Hill is also solid in my opinion for 6-8 people though extremely susceptible to zombies which I definitely understand if thats a big no-no for a lot of players and on top of all that in my personal opinion for me Container Fort is just the best 1750/3500 base bar-none.

I don't find the parking slots on the Strip Mall too problematic as it has a huger amount of space around the base to park cars around the slots. Also The Lumber Mill has a bunch of slots but I noticed that being a mostly open outside base it has a HUGE issue with noise generation compared to other bases. Finally Rosie's Truckstop becomes easily endgame base material if you have access to prestige points to spend in order to buy the Red Talon base modules.

But to me personally that Meagher Valley is the best map because 1: its a flat map ish that you dont have many obstacles in the way and can get anywhere really quick. And 2: that baseball base is too OP for me. The built in bleacher area that the people guard is pretty neat tbh. Comes with 4 parking spots which is huge for me as well. And then the open customization options inside. Plus you have that whole great variety of parking all around with that trail area in front of it.

Make it where you can create and grow a base anywhere. If you pick one of the premade ones, you use less materials. If you pick a random building, an open field, and start expanding, material costs go up and nullifying the staging area. 3 or 4 for each building. You can make a super base, but have to work to keep it up and running.
Im at the point now where I don't have to gather anything to and still in the positive for everything.

Squelones Brewing Company, Meager Valley is hands down one of the funnest bases if you have an interchanging trader/warlord leadership whilst having the Builder and Sheriff boons active. Try it out sometime. Loads of fun. Pretty much buy anything you want with the sells from Craft Beer from the Stills and have free reign of the map with the warlord perks/buildings and trader for all the high end weapon/mod purchases.

For the Container Fort on lethal - Castle defence (built in watch towers with no cost). Roads are still good and you get the local traders/missions spawning in good locations. The pluses heavily outweigh the downsides for me. Only negative is if you're moving maps with a large group its usually defended by about 5 hearts unlike Trumbull with its 2! :)

I have a few picks for each map, my pick for Drucker County would be the Strip Mall, though I like the Cabin Lake Park as well. I build up at the Knights Drive In and move later to one of the two locations.
Meager Vally has the Brewing Company as the best base imo, the Farmhouse is a great starter and on lethal I LOVE to go staight to the Police Dept. to make ammo but seem to end up at Camp Kalenqua as it is my fave, though I know it is not the best.
Cascade Hills best is the Container Fort imo, though I also like the Corner Store as well.
Trumbull Valley has the Farmhouse as best base imo, but I also like the trailer park, which is well defended if you have sniping towers, and the Red Talon base is good as well.
Providence Ridge....that's tough 4 me they are all good but my pic would have to be the truck stop because of what you can do with it. The firehouse would be the best but the workshop cannot be fixed to be a red Talon Workshop which would repair your gear, so it just takes up space though I do like the sniping areas.
All in all, my favorite map....Cascade Hills, because you have more ammo outposts, and the ability to double up on your staging materials gained, but my favorite base is in Meahger Valley and is Camp Kalenqua, it just looks so cool!

My biggest concern is that it will become too farming/crafting heavy. I like many of the ideas that people present, but I've found that (at least in my opinion) SoD in general has a much more enjoyable balance of crafting/base building to fighting to resource gathering than pretty much any other zombie apocalypse game I've played (and I tend to try them all). I am not going to be disappointed if it goes that route, but I think they've got it balanced very well right now. Just maybe add some complexity to resource management as opposed to adding the "chop down trees to gather logs to make a section of fence" sort of thing.

I’m playing on the Providence Ridge map right now and starting a “farming” community. I actually find the lumber mill base is perfect for unlimited farming of resources. I can farm pretty much everything with the right setup and that base without ever leaving the base really. The best part about the lumber mill is unlimited building materials for only labor which can be used to craft parts. With the CNC mill mod in the workshop you get 90 parts in 2 minutes using building materials. So after that you can sell your unlimited parts for 1 influence each. 1 part=1 influence so 5,000 parts is now 5,000 influence! Unlimited influence. I actually have 10k parts and influence in that community right now and my base is the biker bar still. I like the biker bar because while I’m grinding parts I’m also grinding moonshine and jugs of ethanol using the biker kitchen. I have over I have over 50 jugs of moonshine made so far which is probably worth thousands of influence on it’s own. All my extra resources I will be exporting to my other communities on harder difficulties.

Even with a Sniper Tower, one Watchtower and the Chirch as Watchtower Outpost, the risk level was bearly reduced and Zom-Waves were constant coming in. Then the wood machine witch you can use to produce Material was a nice Idea, until I used it. Ive only really played Prividence ridge for completed dread, and a bit of meager Valley which games I restarted, and currently started a nightmare game in Cascade (first time playing map), I'd have to say teh fire station would be my favorite so far if only he survivors "used" the scout tower. Nonone in my community uses it to shoot from... I ended up buuilding a sniper tower to do that. in RL, or say common sense, I'd sue the scout tower as sniper tower, plenty of room to store ammo on the roof.

BTW I found out recently you can get 200 prestige points for fending off a siege which is really nice so you don't have to grind daybreak for prestige though you still have to play it to unlock stuff (Also Prescott fire station definitely can hold up to 10 survivors if you build a max out barracks plus have two small gardens and a staging area)

It will be nice if we can make our bases like DayZ, build our own walls and pick any location or building that we want and turn it into a base.

I wish in sod 3 we could upgrade the walls to remove any debris and fortify them. Hate looking at most of the destroyed or weak looking walls.

    For the Trumbull Base #1
Or any of the Trumbull Bases with large slots:
If you complete the _Meeting Cleo_ questline, you’ll get Cleo installed in your base, so long as you have power.
With this, you’ll never have zombie sieges, plus any zombies that come close to your base are immediately killed by Cleo.
_(You’ll notice zombies that are close to your base will suddenly have green eyes, give it a second and BAM! Their head has exploded thanks to Cleo)._
You can dismantle Cleo, but you’ll need to make sure you keep her Memory Chip if you are to rebuild her again.

I almost never build beds. I just keep my survivors so happy its the only thing they really complain about besides infestations.
Also, I reckon if a survivor leaves the community there should be a chances for them to return later or become the leader of another group and maybe have a grudge against you! That would be cool.
Or even being able to find their Zombie self somewhere.

Fire House was my favorite back when I played. I like that map in general. Seems easier to clear.

11:30, i wish the developer made this base even bigger. i know its already a huge base, but it had SO MUCH more potential, the roof could have 2 or 3 large open slots and i dont even speak of the parking, if the base had all the parking it could have like 6 vehicles parking and not only 3. My biggest issue with this base was the number of open little slots, if we could have more in the parking or in the roof this base would have been kind of a creative mode.

I feel that some of the larger bases in trumbull Valley are a bit of a let down. Fort Marshall is a huge base and it feels empty even with all the slots filled.

Yeah the idea is amazing, but it’s literally the emptiest base in the entire game. It’s so gigantic and empty, but I really like the spot on the map.

not being able to put watch towers on the roof really disappointed me :( like it would be perfect, you dont even need to build the actual building and could just assign ppl to stand up there watching over the area.
