- Hit up Circuit of the Americas (COTA), the F1 and MotoGP track that is here in Austin, Texas to do the RideSmart track day with my bro Hunter Honda! Getting a lot more comfortable pushing the my Yamaha R1 like it was built to be pushed :) Also hit a new personal top speed on the bike! And that's GPS calibrated speed, not indicated speed :D

This has got to be the world slowest track day
I thought it was a school and not about speed but about technique
It's just how COTA is. Almost all of the series of corners are decreasing radius, so you end up coasting and lightly decelerating the whole time until you hit a straight. They should've designed it to have the reverse so you were building speed through all of the corners like how it is in most tracks. I drove a Miata and a Ferrari 458 there with similar tires and everywhere but the straights the Miata was just as fast because there's nowhere to really accelerate because there's always a corner coming up that's slower than the last one. As nice of a facility as it is, the actual layout is kind of a buzzkill, only cars and bikes on insanely grippy slicks can really do more than coast a lot of these corners.
@@nunyabusiness896 or they're just super slow? it's a fast flowy track other than 3 corners and you can be on the gas for most of it.
@@chenspeed It is absolutely not a fast flowy track, what bullshit arcade video game did you learn that from? I've driven it in real life twice in a Miata and a Ferrari 458 and have run countless sim laps in all sorts of cars and bikes, if you think you're "on the gas" for most of it, you're driving it in something super slow or playing an inaccurate video game.
@@nunyabusiness896 Does my profile pic give you the impression I play video games? I can't speak for how cars drive on the track, only actual motorcycles, not sims. And the track flows. Having points of hard braking after short straights doesn't make it not flow. But like i said, i can't speak to how cars handle it. But appreciate your assumption I don't know what i'm talking about. I've ridden there twice in IRL as well. And i should have stated more clearly, that on the gas in most of it is how it should be when you're not braking right? I meant they were coasting thru the turns, into the turns and thru many parts of it. I'm not even saying I'm fast, I'm just saying when youre at the track, you're supposed to be either on the gas or on the brakes. That's what we all try to work up to while riding at the track.

+JeeprzCreepers56 Yeah, but they can teach you to ride faster in the corners, at the rate they were going, I'm sure a moderately skilled rider on a 250 would be miles ahead. Tracks aren't about straights, they're about the corners.
He can ride what he wants, but man he'd learn how to ride much quicker on a 250.

you guys are lucky to be able to do a track day there .from what i see and hear it is a amazing track .
Its neat for sure. Couple spots out there are pretty gnarly at a fast pace. Was nice that the track management was very interested to hear what problems the track had.
Sick video, I got 247kmh (153mph) in my video on my yamaha r6 the second time I rode the bike! COTA is such an amazing track! Great video

I really love watching track days. I don’t think I’ll ever have the nuts to actually go out and try one though. Looks like a blast.
"Whew! Gettin' tired. It's insane how MotoGP guys do this, for what, 45 [minutes]?" - That's the truth there! It's mentally and physically tiring. Track rides are so much more than you just sitting on a bike and twisting the throttle. Hard to believe if you've never done one, but I love it!

when you lean into corners you have to counter steer but do you keep counter steering all the way through the turn or just to start the lean and also how do you mange to lean so sharp and then lean on the other side so quickly like on an apex turn

150 on the front and 175 on the back was what I was seeing on my 08 zx10. But that's in level one with Ridesmart. (It had been about 6 years since my last track day). Can't wait to get back to cota.

That day was super fun!! Don't think we crossed paths at all that day on the track but was cool to meet you. I had an indicated 169 on the back straight and still had room but not the balls to hold that braking zone to push faster. That straight is mental!!!!!

If you wanna get more out of the straightaway, keep on it until closer to the end, then give a hard grab of front brake to slow you down, then ease on the brake to set your corner speed. You get more out of the straightaway, and you can set your corner speed more comfortably that way versus doing a long, dragged out feather on the brakes. :D

My father reached 165mph on his CBR900RR, pretty sure your R1 can do more than that.
Course it can, electronically limited to 186
he needs a different rear sprocket
it should be able to do 200mph. but yeah it's limited to 180 or some shit.

Real Deal i'm pretty sure it's intermediate. it can't be beginner because they're overtaking other people. you can't do that in the beginner level right? and they can't be any more than intermediate because advanced would be going a lot faster and would be pretty much all sportbikes.

Dumb question, I know it is, but how come he is using his clutch to shift down gears but not when going up? Whatever it is is an amazing idea.

If you are able to upshift whitouth clutch, and you get good doing it, you will be able to go faster and smoother than upshifting with the clutch, and, if im not wrong, you can downshift without the clutch too but it is much harder =).
