    O, I remember this pretty nice 2006 WD episode (S4 E7/8)! 👍Edd did a great job when replaced rear drop links and front suspension control arms, middle and rear exhaust sections, Canada-spec alloy wheels with factory BBS and beige cloth interior swapped with cream leather interior from donor vehicle 🚘

    For anybody wondering, the original 'Canadian' (as they call them) wheels that came with the red car are Centra Type 7 16" wheels.
    Centra was a German wheel company eventually bought out by Ronal. They made OE wheels for various manufacturers, notably the futuristic rims for the Mk1 Renault Espace. It looks like these wheels were offered as a genuine accessory (in Germany as well as apparently Canada) because they have a BMW format part number (KBA40529). They are actually quite sought after today for their retro style, particularly in VW enthusiast circles. 5-stud ones seem particularly rare.
    Until I started searching I had never seen another set of these on an E24 so thought some people might be interested to know. Ironically if Mike & Edd had kept these wheels, today they might be worth more than the standard wheels they replaced them with!

    Edd is the real hard worker on WD. Bring him back.

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Edd has stated in numerous interviews he has no intention of returning to WD. Ant is pretty good. Give him a chance. He's not Edd China, but he's every bit as watchable, educational, and entertaining as Edd.

      @@houseofno I agree. Ant did great episodes like the M3, the Cosworth, the 1973 Celica, the 996 and the Rabbit GTi. People must understand that Ant speaks more technical because he does more thorough restorations and improvements with cars that are more sophisticated. You can fix a Capri in your shed with simple tools, but not a 2004 M3.

    Pre-82 E24 6 series were based on the E12 5 series (first generation 5 series). 1982 to 1989 cars were based on the E28 5 series (2nd generation 5 series). Measurements and wheelbase are pretty much identical in both cars, but things like mounting points and brackets may be different.

      I’ve never seen a pre-82. I’m surprised to hear that tho

    Interesting bit of trivia about the E24: Initially the E24 was based on the first generation 5-series, codenamed the E12, when it came out for the 1976 model year. However, for the 1982 model year, the 5-series transitioned to the second generation 5-series, the E28. The E24 followed similar transition, although not a total redesign like the 5-series. However, numerous electrical, mechanical, and body changes occured on the E24 6-series, so the earlier and later parts will not interchange without modification. Hopefully this will be helpful to someone. Cheers.

      Same goes for e23?

    • @houseofno
      @houseofno 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BillyTheSKID E23 is a different vehicle. E24 is 1977 to 1989 first generation 6-series. E23 is 1977-1986 first generation 7-series. My statement does not apply to the E23.

    They could have put the old interior and wheels onto the donor car and sell it for £200, Ed’s time doesn’t seem to be factored into the profit at all.

    So how much did they get for reselling the donor car? Surely they would've gotten at least £200 or even £150 in scrap even back then? Also why did he sell the car so cheap, it was a worth £5000 even then?
