Abusive af parents, hated my life and planned my escape since I was 6, left parents at 18 to live with grandma in another state hundreds of miles away. I was a soldier deployed to thailand for my military service. on the eve of the new year, we made plans to go to a club we all loved. at the last minute, a call came in, and this lady friend asked us to go to another club instead. we agreed. later that night, we started receiving panicked phone call by our COS - turned out the other club we were supposed to go to burned down thanks to fireworks being started off by the performing band, and many people died.
Our guys politely thanked me and the girl for changing venues at the last minute; we all lived because of the last min decision. Funny part - the COS was panicking throughout the night because he couldnt get through to one fellow officer who liked the place and we knew for a fact he had gone to the club that had burnt down. when we finally got him... we found out that he was sleeping in the hotel - he had decided that he was tired and retired for the night... just an hour before the club burnt down.
Sad part, one countryman did die, but he wasn't part of our detachment. turns out that guy was a recruit who had finished his basic, and travelled to thailand to have one last party before he got his posting orders.

When my mother was pregnant, she felt that something was wrong and demanded the hospital to give her a checkup after many times of being refused.
After 5 hours of waiting they gave her a checkup and discover ed that my heart rate was decreasing and that she had to get a C-section immediately. I was born and put straight into and Incubator thing.
I could have been dead if mom didn't go into Karen mode.
The scariest thing is, is that later on mom found out that the exact nurse that was refusing her the checkup, was the reason behind 3 children being born dead.
I can't imagine what mom would be going through if she went home instead and listened to that nurse. I would be dead, and she would have been shattered.

I almost committed self deletion in my family's garage back when I was 19, but at the last minute a friend of mine showed up on the front porch shouting "what's up effer, who wants pizza?!" I panicked, ran in to the front door and kept him away from the garage, which kept me away from it too, long enough that I decided to get therapy. My last appointment was in Dec 2019 due to current events, but after more than 3 years of therapy, my diagnosis had changed from suicidal depression to clinical depression, with a hint of occasional disassociation.
Currently nothing feels real enough for me to be depressed about.

My dad told me and my sisters about the one time he played Russian Roulette. He, his buddies, and his girlfriend at the time were drunk and thought it was a good idea. One of his buddies had a revolver, and they started playing. When it was my dad's turn he put the gun to his head. Just as he was about to pull the trigger his girlfriend launched herself at him and pushed the gun away. The gun went off and the bullet went into the roof above them. As a kid, I would often wear one of my dad's old motorcycle helmets around the house, because I thought I looked cool. One time my mom got a phone call and walked around the corner into the kitchen. I decided that would be a perfect time to try to climb the wall until, while still wearing a sparkly silver motorcycle helmet. The wall unit had a fold out drawer that I was attempting to sit on, when the top half of the unit suddenly tipped forward. The glass cabinet door ending up breaking over top of my head and the whole thing came down resting on my head/helmet. I was able to slip out from the helmet as my mom came screaming into the room. I looked at her and casually remarked "Good thing I had my helmet on, mom."
I was telling this story to a coworker when she suddenly burst into tears. A friend of hers had recently lost a child in a very similar accident involving a book case.

One time as a kid, around 12 my mom was in a parent teacher conference or something for my sister, 9 at the time, and it was dark out, me and my sister were playing in the dark at the playground about a football field away, and I saw this man approaching us. The light was coming from he bind him so I couldn’t see his face but I could tell it was a man in his 50 somethings with white hair, speed walking straight towards me. I had been just sitting on this little bridge and I noticed this guy was definitely walking with intent right past my sister straight towards me. My parents had warned me about kidnapping to the extreme as a kid so I didn’t take the chance, I yelled at my sister to run and we both did toward the building. We looked back after we got about halfway there and we saw him doing pull ups on the monkey bars. We got inside and told my mom and my sisters teacher and we went to go look and he was gone. It was well known around my town that a few weeks prior another boy was almost kidnapped by a man with white hair as well. This isn’t cap.

I’m gonna keep this short. Because it’s a long story and it gives me PTSD.
I turned a corner in my car and there was a car upside down in the middle of the road with two women in it. I told my wife to call 911 and ran out to pull the two out. We stayed with them until the ambulance and responding offer showed up.
One week later, I was accused of a crime I didn’t commit. My guilt was decided before I was even interviewed. I’m called into the station, and end up in a full scale police interrogation. After half an hour, the interrogator recognizes me. The same officer that responded to the accident last week. These women treated me like I had saved their lives. I guess they relayed that same thing to the officer.
I almost did ten years in prison for a crime I didn’t commit one month after my son was born. Deciding to go Christmas shopping early saved my entire life.

When my mom was in college, to get home, she took the subway with a friend of hers. Said friend always liked to ride in the car that was closest to the front, too.
One day they were entering the station when they saw the train was about to leave, so the friend was like "Let's wait for the next one" and my mom said "No, if we run we can still catch it" so they did just that.
Next thing they know is that the train behind them was caught by a tunnel cave-in. And the front cars got the worst out of it. Had they not run to catch the train... well, I probablly wouldn't be here writing this.
The creepiest part, though, was that my mom apparently had been having this recurring nightmare of the subway suddenly stopping and everyone having to get down and start walking down the tunnels, which were always decorated with drawings of devils. After the accident, she never had that nightmare again.

I actually have a few of these.
Firstly, when I was a toddler my parents had that baby radio thing that let you hear what was going on in the other room, and my parents had been thinking about getting rid of that since I was starting my 2nd grade year of school. Before they did that, I apparently had a very severe asthma attack and my parents heard my struggled breathing on the radio and rushed me to the hospital, where I had passed out on the way and woke up 2 days later. We didn't find out until that attack that I had asthma as well allergies that could cause swelling. If they got rid of that baby monitor I may have suffocated in my sleep and my parents wouldn't have been able to hear me.
Another close bullet was literally that same year during a Christmas Eve party, when at one point I, my Aunt and Uncle, Grandpa and grandma, and great grandma were going to go down to the church to donate some stuff at night for the next day's Christmas Day at the church. Now normally when there's not enough seats in the car I would just ride in someone's lap without a seatbelt. Well, they were getting ready to leave while I was in the middle of a game of Twisted Metal (they hadn't told me they were leaving before any of this) and I was understandably not happy, so they left me with everyone else while they left to go to the church. Later that night we got a call that a drunk driver had clipped the rear end of their car while speeding through the an intersection, and the car flipped on the hood and went to skid all the way down the road for a good while (uncle was driving like 60 since the light had been green). Had I been in that car without a seat belt I have no doubts I would have dead. Thankfully the worst that happened was the car got totaled and my grandma hurt her neck so she requires massage therapy for it. It could have been a lot worse.
The last time was when I was about 15 or so and my dad had been driving on a super busy highway. We were on one of those parts of a highway that was like a huge bridge that stood about 60 feet in the air above the ground of some kinda industrial yard. The highway is moving quite fast with a few huge semi trucks around, and one of them tried to pull into our lane when we had another semi immediately to our right, so my dad had to slam the gas and try to pull out in front of the semi on our right, but was forced to keep going because the car up ahead of us for some reason had been slowing down so we ended up on that edge area where the barriers are and there was yet ANOTHER god damn car that had been parked on the side of the road so my dad had to slam the brakes hard and thread the needle right between the stopped car and the barrier. It was simultaneously the most terrifying thing that has happened to me while also being the most badass thing I've ever seen my dad do, it's like he was straight out of an action movie. The universe really wanted us dead that day with how much shit it threw at us, and my dad dodged every single bullet for us with his insane driving ability.

When I was a junior in highschool I had this buddy that would drive me to school nearly every day. Sometimes he would have one other friend. He picked me up one day and he asked if I wanted to smoke a joint before we went in. I was never really keen on smoking before school but I didn't care if he was going to himself. I took maybe one hit but that was it. When we arrived at the school a short time later his other friend asked to chill with us before school started. I just went into the school and left them alone. We had first period together and when they walked in they must've smoked a ton more because everyone was questioning the weed smell. The teacher came up to us since we all say next to one another and asked to talk to us. I was like "Me too?". She said "No just them two.". I knew immediately what was going on. They were texting me to hide their sweatshirts or something while they were in the principals office but the teacher already took it as evidence or some shit. They had the police search the car and he found multiple joints. They were suspended for 10 days. I could have gotten fucked with that too. All it took was them looking at the cameras and seeing me get out of that car as well. Completely lucked out.

A literal bullet, lol. I was walking around in the woods with my friend in the woods that started right next to his house. We were a good half mile away from his house when we suddenly spotted some (3, to be exact) hunters in orange vests and hunting gear. Next thing we know, they fired a shot at us. It passed between both of us. We both felt the air being pushed away by the bullet, and heard it whistle past us. They never fired another shot. I can only assume that they realized their mistake shortly after. We never yelled at them to let them know we were human, but in hindsight, we should have.
Either way, shitty hunters if you ask me. You shouldn't just randomly shoot because you see movement..
It was either an accident or dude who shot was a psychopath and said to his buddies "watch this, I'm gonna scare the shit out of them".

Suddenly I felt the hair on the back of my neck raise. On pure instinct, I immediately jumped right and threw myself to the ground. A gigantic tree branch, larger than my entire body, smashed down on the road, right at the spot I had been. It was so close that the branch had actually clipped my shoe AND sock completely off my left foot.
Not gonna lie, I totally felt like Spiderman. I must have subconsciously heard the branch cracking off the tree or something like that because I had no conscious idea that would happen. All I remember thinking of at the time was how good a hot shower would be.

When my mom was 13, my grandfather had a widowmaker heart attack in the middle of playing baseball. The rosters of both teams consisted of EMTs and cops. Immediate medical intervention and a speed-limit-breaking police escort to the hospital later, it just so happened that one of the foremost cardiac surgeons in the state of Texas was at said hospital that day. My grandfather lived fifty more years after that, surviving on the bleeding edge of medical science. They actually used him as a guinea pig for many treatments that are now much more commonplace; in that way, his survival helped ensure the survival of others. He dodged a bullet and spent the rest of that borrowed time helping others dodge them as well. I'll always be proud of him for that.

I guess in most cases, if we dodge a really big bullet, we will never know that we did. I have this thought remembering the biggest bullet I didn't dodge: my first baby was due with a planned c-section because she was in feet breech position. Upon being taken into the hospital, the obstetrician checked and saw she had turned to the correct presentation, so they sent me home because the reason for c-section was just not there anymore, and I was very happy because i was desperate for a natural delivery. Looks like a dodged bullet right? Nope. Nothing happened until some days after the term. The birthing process started, but there were major complications, I had to go under emergency c-section, the baby almost died (she was born with Apgar score 1/10) and needed resuscitation and 2 weeks of massive NICU treatment that kept me from seeing her at all for the first 3 days. For about a week we didn't know whether she would survive, and for more than one year there was fear she might bear permanent brain damage. Thank God everything turned out well.
If she didn't turn head down, I would have had a sad but quiet planned c-section, she would be in my arms within minutes with no issues and I would have lived all my life with a bitter memory of delivery without knowing what we had escaped.
Instead, now that I have experienced the second worst thing (her being stillborn would have been the only possible first), I am a different person than I was, maybe more grateful, humble and strong than I would have been otherwise.

I remember I was at a water park, and I just entered the wave maker section. It’s started with open water, towards the left being the entrance to a river where the waves would push you and the right being the exit of the river. When you went through the entrance, you would go through calm water before you came to the end of a wall, next to it being the wave maker, which wasn’t covered. It was about 25 feet away from the end of the wall coming from the calm side, so there was space, but it was massive. As we went in, I noticed how some people would jump into the waves as they were made and get a super fast boost. Once my family and I went through it, I did it again and tried the wave thing. When I tried it however, I managed to get sucked under the wave and felt a strong current pushing me back. Out of panic, I grabbed the end of the wall and held on for dear life, and I held on until a lifeguard came in to pull me out.

Commercial vehicles such as Semis, Dump Trucks, Cranes, and Moving Vans use air brakes. Air Brakes are generally more reliable then conventional brakes but they have to be carefully monitored and maintained. You're supposed to drain the air tanks before you set off to get rid of any water or oil that might be in them because they will freeze in the cold and cause the brakes to fail. You need to carefully monitor the air tanks levels while driving to make sure they don't get too low that the brakes won't have enough to work. And you need to verify that this monitoring system is working in the first place before taking off. And check the brakes themselves for any abberations.
What I'm trying to say is there is a lot there that might have caused this.

I was in 6th grade camp, and was always a nervous little wreck. I didn't want to go climb the rest of the way up a steep hill, because if I were to slip, I would have fallen and probably died... Despite the fact obviously they weren't going to let me fall. A counselor stayed back with me and we talked, just pacing around, when suddenly, he snatched me back, and a huge tree fell from the canopy and slammed down where I had been standing. I felt like I was about to vomit. He explained to me they were called "widow makers" because so many lumber workers died from them, leaving their wives widowed. The rest of the class had to comeback around another way, and for some reason, it helped me relax. I was so afraid of a near death experience, and I had had one.

This happened when I was little. Missed a train and had to wait for the next one. The train stopped a few stations down the line and told everyone to get off the trains were closing. Didn’t think anything of it at the time I just thought the trains got tired (yeah that kind of young).
A few years later I had a full existential crisis when my dad told me the train we missed was blown up in a terrorist attack.

A friend's gf wanted to set me up with her sister. The gf herself was a lovely girl so maybe her sister was raised right too. She wasn't. The sister had some weird ideas about living on a commune and traveling across the country with no real source of income. After I decided against this, she immediately attached herself to a former Marine and got pregnant. As soon as she gave birth she took the kid, moved into a commune and off the grid. No one can find her but the Marine still has to pay child support.

I remember being a really young kid, maybe 3rd or 4th grade, when some high schooler decided me verbally defending myself from a bully from a lower grade was worth trying to assault me. I managed to outrun him from my school all the way home, having a moment where I nearly avoided him trying to crush me after i jumped over a junk couch someone in the neighborhood left out for trash collection to hide. If he landed on me in that very crucial moment, I bet I would have died from suffocation or just being crushed by someone 100+lbs heavier than me

we were playing dodge ball in my tae kwon do academy and there were two teachers throwing the ball, anyway everyone ran to the other side of the room and looked scared while i looked confused, then it clicked to me, it was like i could sense my teacher yanking his hand to throw the ball and how the ball was leaving his hand and i felt like i could see from a third person perspective opened my third eye or some ultra instinct shit because i immidiately leaned forward like how you salute in martial arts and the ball completely missed me by slightly flying over my bent back to my peers who just looked at me shocked as did my teachers, i had risen above all for a moment achieving the so glorified forsight ability of the ancient grand elder martial artists and stood up straight with a grin on my face while everyone stopped the game for some moments, my teachers were proud to say the least

By my moms story they didn't think I was going to make it. I really don't know how I survived its still a mystery to this day. My sisters husband of that year decided he was king shit when it came to construction because his uncle (read father figure) was a very skilled carpenter.
