This is a really great video Mr. Stevenson, it was very informative with no fluff. This is a great example of “when in Rome please follow the Roman laws,”even though many of the Romans themselves do not. Damn good video, thank you.

For those in the hypothetical situation, it is wise to get their license, since daily events are unpredictable it's better to be prepared than unprepared. Thanks for sharing another informative video, Alex, I appreciate it!

Thanks for another informational video Alex, I am planning on getting a license as well to cover my butt. The driving process is quite similar to when I got my license in South Korea a few years ago since I wanted to ride a motorcycle bigger than 125cc. I hope the part about having a valid license from any country holds true since I have my Korean and New Zealand licenses!!!

The traffic is too chaotic to even think of driving a scooter here. I prefer SA traffic over this any day.
    Great video.
I have been traveling with an IDP for the past 8 months and have not had any trouble. Vietnam's roads are really crazy.

Does having a full bike licence at home still enable you just to take the practical and receive a VN bike licence, if so what would be the expiry is it tied to your visa or your home licence

In Vietnam they just call mopeds motorbikes, so same thing.

You can ride up to 50cc without a license, I believe. So you could get a Honda Super Cub. However, they're small and slow, and, with regards to insurance, your insurer could maybe still use it as an excuse not to pay out if you're in an accident (get confirmation from them in writing first!).

    • @mikejaques4702
      @mikejaques4702 6 ปีที่แล้ว

@@ninja.teacher I probably think that when Tornado Brick asks about moped he means 50CC bike, in many countries you NO need to have a license to drive any 2 wheelers under 50cc.... i gues that is what he asks....

I am not sure where you are getting these prices from. You shouldn't go through an agent. Just bring your license to the Department of Tranasportation and fill out the forms. I did it last weekend. It costs no more than 200,000 dong all said and done.

Thanks for the informational video on getting a Vietnamese driving license. Have you ever applied for International Driving Permit for your Vietnamese driving license? If you do, could you please let me know the Convention that Vietnam is signatory to, Geneva 1949 or Vienna 1968?

You can get travel insurance like this: th-cam.com/video/o62BcxRyADA/w-d-xo.html
Or look into local or international health insurance options - there are a lot out there!

Perfect. Looking for something like this. Question.: Do you have to know manual transmission or is a semi-automatic scooter ok? Also, have you heard of anyone getting a pass from police if they only had their home driver's license, and the 1949 IDP (I'm Canadian, as far as I know, it does not issue the 1968 IDP)?.

      1. Nope. 2. Yes, it expires. It's valid for the same length as your car / motorbike license from back home.

Hello! My Google research hasn't been able to answer this question. Are tourists able to get a motorbike license in Vietnam, or only foreigners with a working permit/residency in Vietnam? Many websites say it's only for foreigners with permit, but I've also heard of tourists getting their license there. Do you have knowledge on this?

Did you have to take a blood test as part of getting a license? I am applying for one now and I am being told that I need to take a blood test (I already did a urine test and vision test).
Also, what type of visa were you on at this time? I have a 5 year visa exemption and was hoping this would allow me to get a license that would last for the duration of this exemption.
