    Hi David, this is a fantastic video. Very well explained.
    I recently watched your short video (but can't seem to comment on the video). You mentioned that the A2 license is also changing. I am about to take the A2 test on Jan 3rd 2025 with DC Motorbikes. If I pass will it be classed now as an 'A' license and not an 'A2'?
    Thanks!

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Yes, you'll have License A and Not A2. A is exactly the same as A2. the only difference is the title A instead of A2, that's all. Me myself I have A2, if the police will ever pull me over they'll consider my license as license A
      Good luck with the test 🙂

      @@David.Robinowich ah that's awesome! Thanks for the clarification.
      The plan is to do a trip around the world in the future by applying for an international license after getting the Vietnamese one. The bike we plan to use is an 800cc... I checked and A2 only allows you to drive up to 395cc in UK (my home country). So I'm wondering if this change has made it easier now it's classed as 'A'!
      I wasn't aware of this before your video so thank you! 🙌

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  22 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Dont worry, I have Vietnamese IDP and the A2 local VN license that i have is being translated by the IDP as License A, so don't worry, even in a case that you'll have A2 and not A, the IDP translate your local VN license as A
      And BTW, technically, as of 2025 if I want to, I can just go to the license department and replace my A2 license to A but I don't have to do it🙂

    Great informative video. Thank you for making it. There is something that is still not clear to me; in order to convert my license or to start from scratch, do I need a specific type of visa? As well, is there an equivalent to DC Motorbikes in Hanoi? Currently, I want to visit for 6 months but I will only be able to get 3 month visa and then have to leave and reapply.

      Hey, Thank you🙂
      As of today, you can do the license only if you have TRC(But things change very quickly in Vietnam) and as far as I know only DC MOTOBIKES can help you with the full process(Theory + Practical test). I suggest to contact them and ask them in order to get more details. I know for sure they had customers that don't live in HCMC, so I believe you don't have to live in HCMC in order to get service from them. Just contact them to get more details. I put at the description the full information about them and easy to find them on Facebook 🙂

    Great video!! Thank you!! Quick question. I have a UK Car licence and travelling to Vietnam on a tourist Visa, can I do the practical test to get a Vietnam A1 motorbike license?

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Herrison. Thanks for your comment 👍
      Regarding to your question, theoretically you can do it, but I wouldn't do it for several reasons. Remember that as long as you don't do Theory + practical test in Vietnam your license will have an expiry date according to your Visa/ foreign license/passport(the one that expired earlier) so assuming that your UK license and passport are Valid for long time the A1 Vietnamese license will be valid maximum for the period of your Visa which is maximum 90 days.
      Beside it takes time to get the A1 license, you'll have to convert first your UK car license to Vietnamease, it takes around 13 - 15 days, then you'll have to register to a test center and do medical check in hospital and then wait for the official test so it will take around two weeks or one month and then after you passed the test you'll have to wait Around a month to get your driving license, which will be expired anyway at the time your Visa is expired.
      I suggest you in case that you plan to be long time in Asia to do the lifetime License Theory + Practical test then you can even do the A2 license and get license for unlimited time and unlimited cc you can also do the lifetime license for A1 but then your license limited to lower than 175cc which is also not that bad
      Remember that Vietnam is a member in ASEAN, then with Vietnamese driving license you can drive in all countries which member in ASEAN
      If you just come for a short vacation and then you go back to the UK just don't do anything then you can drive legally on a car(with international UK licence) and a scooter up to 50cc(no licence required)

    As of October 1st, 2023, a new requirement has been implemented for foreigners seeking to convert their foreign driver’s license into a Vietnamese one. Now, individuals must possess a temporary residence card issued by the Immigration Department to initiate the conversion process.

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no problem to convert the license even with a tourist visa, but as i mentioned in the video it will be expired as the expiry date of the visa/foreign license/passport(the one which expired earlier)

    Hi I’m thinking of coming to Vietnam in November for around a month and would really like to go through this whole process but as you said it can take 10 weeks to receive the physical license, is there a certain type of visa I must have in order to begin this process? Thank you

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nowadays with DC motobikes you can do the entire process on a tourist Visa, but you should have Visa for longer time even for 90 days, just in order to make sure that you have enough time to practice, pass the test and get the license

      Then if you live in Vietnam you can convert your license to VN license and then you'll have a license with an expiry date or you can start from Zero then you have VN license without expiry date. In my Opinion VN license is important if you live in Asia since Vietnam is a member in ASEAN then you can drive in all countries which member in ASEAN such as Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos etc

      Hey, definitely yes🙂
      And let me tell you something
      With Cambodian or Thai license, you can actually drive with the local license
      Because Thailand and Cambodia are members of the ASEAN countries, there is an agreement between countries in ASEAN that each country can use the local license in order to drive in other countries in ASEAN

    I currently have an American drivers license and a motorcycle endorsement. If I convert to a Vietnam drivers license, will they seize my American license or allow me to keep it? In the United States, if you move from one state to another and get a new license, the old one is terminated.

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't worry the Vietnamease department of licensing don't take or seize foreign licenses when they convert it to Vietnamease license, you'll keep your US license with you

    • @Dave-ze8vd
      @Dave-ze8vd 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@David.Robinowich Apparently I can't use an IDP in Vietnam since my license is from the USA which is not a signatory to the 1968 convention. I have been reading recently I cannot convert my license either because I will not have a Vietnamese resident permit. Possibilities: Go through the process from the beginning in Vietnam (written and road test) and get a Vietnamese license (would mean using a facilitator in HCMC and staying there 3-4 weeks to go through the process), or possibly get a retirement visa in the Philippines, convert my license to a Philippines license and use that license while operating a motorcycle in Vietnam. Any thoughts? Thank you.

    • @David.Robinowich
      @David.Robinowich  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @Dave-ze8vd Hey Dave,
      Unfortunately, you ate right, IDP from the US is not valid in Vietnam. In my opinion, there is no point in converting the license as well as long as you're on a tourist visa, even if it's possible, because it will be valid only for the time of the visa. As I mentioned in the video, if you do the VN license in Vietnam(theory + practical test), you'll have a VN license(motorbike)that is valid for life which if the best option if you can do it.
      Now, if you can't do VN license the best option you can get license from one of the countries in ASEAN, as you mentioned the Philippines, or Cambodia, or Thailand or any other country in ASEAN, then you can drive with that license legally in Vietnam
