Heinz Field (I’ll never call it that new name, screw that) has always been perfect for the Steelers. The only thing they did wrong was close up the open end, that was a significant home field advantage. But it has great sight lines, not even the nosebleed seats are bad, the open steel framework is very Pittsburgh, and the grass field itself is something the players love. It doesn’t need to be replaced. It’s not like Pittsburgh will ever host a Super Bowl. Replacing Three Rivers had to happen. Replacing Heinz Field does not.
That's the NFL ownership's first play, hold a city hostage, threat to leave, unless the city passes a tax bill to help pay for a stadium. Of course each stadium is different, some are owned by the team owner, some owned by the city or county, so it can get complicated. But ultimately, it's BS to tax (which means you just take the money) versus lets say an investment. I would be more prone to give money to a local stadium rebuild if I knew I was going to get a return on my investment. But they'd rather just take the money and use it and reap the benefits themselves.
This goes well in tandem with Tree's vid The Great Stadium Grift. You'd really want to get at least 40 years for something that could be a long term debt for the city.

Waste of tax payer money. Some of these teams could sell out 120,000 seats every game. that’s the only reason a team should be asking for a new stadium Is to meet demand for more seats. And stop asking for tax payer money for renovations
@@jac_238It's because SF passed a law. If a stadium gets built or renovated with taxpayers $$ the stadium can't have a corporate name. So that's why SF stadiums are privately founded. I also think they get property tax breaks too if they don't take the people's money.
There are other reasons. A big reason for the Highmark replacement is some structural deficiencies in the upper deck. Engineers working for the state, not the team, estimated that the stadium would need to be replaced or rebuilt in the 2030s due to deterioration of the rebar in the concrete due to freeze thaw and vibration. That's a big reason for the stadium issue in Buffalo finally getting traction with politicians after 20 years of the team asking. Sure, they could rebuild the existing building. But the argument more or less came down to do we pay 1.5 to rebuild what we have, or pay 1.8 for a building with nicer amenities.... Or 3 for a dome.
Yea but what do u want the federal govt to mandate no city can provide incentives? In America that eoukd be called communism and i doubt the supreme court would even allow that. An NFL team does bring in tax revenue and most NFL owners could put their investment in the NFL into an index fund and make more money off of it. Not saying I care about the owners at all, i dont. I do care about what an nfl team means to a city. Govt could also force nfl teams to allow the cities to buy the team then they get all the profit if the owners refuse to pay to build stadiums but again, even a liberal court would be 50/50 on allowing that law to stand given the implications. Like I could see this the supreme court allowing the govt to take over sports but it would be over some made up transgender scare, def not doing it in a way that benefits the people of a city over a billionaire owner. So prolly better cities just negotiate for the best deal possible to get the team and not be afraid to let the team leave cuz in most cases they will get another team at a decent deal since there is a market.
Got to give Seattle credit... both their MLB and NFL stadiums were built in the late 90's, and despite being 25 years old no one there has even remotely considered replacing or renovating either one. They've done a great job maintaining both, and both feel fresh and new even today.
I’ve been to Commanders Field and the site of RFK in the last 7 months. Both need to be leveled the former as it completely sucks and the latter as it’s really dilapidated. Would be great to build a new one on the site…
Raymond James Stadium hosted a Super Bowl in 2021, as well as WrestleMania, and 2016 wasn’t exactly forever to host the College Football Playoff. I’d expect gradual renovations over any full blown replacement. You’ll notice the Tampa Bay Rays are building a new ballpark right next to their old one in a location no one except St. Petersburg people seem to like. Why? Hillsborough County/Tampa wasn’t in the mood to put up the public funding St. Pete and Pinellas County are willing to. Hopefully, their development supplies fans, because they’re on the hook!
I actually hope the NFL dosent make any new stadiums after ones that are already being built because you won’t get weather games which is a spirit of football that historic people in the NFL like John Madden loved. I know that some stadiums have opening domes but they don’t typically open them unless it’s good weather and most of the concepts for the new stadiums don’t seem to include this feature

Bank of America Stadium has been looooooong overdue for a replacement. Sucks that us Panthers fans will probably have to wait 20 years before we get a suitable replacement. As for that upcoming renovation, it's nothing but a band-aid placed on a festering wound.
If you want to replacement Stadium go to your bank withdraw $20,000 and give it to the team. Tell thousands of your fellow fans to also give the team $20,000. Then you'll get your Stadium without having to gouge the taxpayers like I know you think you're about to do. Screw off use your own money.
Honestly I just don't care about the team anymore, and I probably feel apathetic toward the league as a whole. Maybe it's burnout from following last season much more than college, which proved to be a mistake after the playoffs we got. (I am definitely excited for CFB this season more with the expanded playoff)
I thought I read rumors the Broncos are already wanting to do something with the New Mile High Stadium, which is barely over 25 years old. I remember seeing it get built, so it's insane to think these expensive monstrosities have such a short life span. In fact, it feels like a conspiracy of architects and construction firms to make sure they can get billion dollar contracts! Those bastards!
As an architect, if there were that kind of money to be had in these public projects, I'd be living a lot better than a 1br apartment... For a lot of these, it's lack of maintainence or desire for new amenities or technological advancement. Being a bills fan, I'll use Highmark as a good example. The stadium was built in 73 and wasn't made for the large electronics of today. It wasn't until the last renovation that it was able to even support the ribbon video boards and modern broadcast infrastructure in a meaningful way. A big reason the Bills didn't have prime time games for 20 years, aside from the drought and bad teams, was that there wasn't a way to hook up the sky cam in the stadium that all the prime time games used. Now, a big reason for the replacement is that the exposed concrete structure of the upper deck is suffering damage from exposure and vibration. And it became a question of, do we keep slapping billion dollar bandaids on the building every 10 years, or spend 2 billion and have a building you don't have to touch for 30 years outside technology and finishes. As for a building like FedEx. It was built by the lowest bidder, it was built with exposed structure. And it's ownership put absolutely 0 effort into upkeep so it's falling apart. Compared to Baltimore which took care of their building of the same era. And I can say, aside from some faded plastic on the seats, that building still looks pretty good
@@ironfox4990 no arrowhead looks brutalist in some places.. retro classic means like lambeau field. that concrete style has always looked ugly. i think a mix of M&T and lambeau would be retro classic
Paycor/Paul Brown Stadium was built with grade Z concrete. I was there for the first NFL game, a preseason game. It look so amazing, but as I was walking I saw cracks in the concrete everywhere. Our tickets were in the lower bowl, 8 rowes up on the 40. Excellent seats, but chunks of concrete were already falling off the thing! It is easily one of the biggest construction scams in NFL history. With the costs of replacement of concrete, etc., the stadium cost taxpayers about 1 billion dollars.
Nothing like people with a net worth north of several billion dollars holding the middle class hostage to build them stadiums to make them even more money.
I don’t Heinz Field is going anywhere anytime soon. It’s still in pretty good condition and let’s be honest, the city won’t help pay for a billion dollar stadium. If anything I eventually see them moving their practice facility and front office to a more modern facility located outside of the city to make it more attractive to free agents but that’s about it.
If you ask ownership.. the stadiums are obsolete by the end of their 3rd season (if that long).. they are never happy with what they have. Nice attitude when it's not YOUR money building it. I sitll say, make them build it themselves. That's why Lambeau is still around. Team owned.. team maintained.
I go from stadium for work. Of the stadiums I’ve been to the only one I felt needed to be replaced was KC. It looks like a great place to watch a game but underneath it was designed poorly. I don’t see how it can be fixed. The best option is probably to replace. Here’s the thing… if they are going to replace it with a stadium designed by someone that has no idea what they are doing they should probably just save the money and keep playing in the stadium they have. For any city looking to replace a stadium my advice would be don’t make it harder than it needs to be. Just call the builder and tell them to build you Cowboys Stadium. Of all of the stadiums I’ve been to it’s the best by a bunch.
I guarantee that the Jets and Giants will abandon the monstrosity known as MetLife stadium and New Jersey altogether so the Jets can build it in either Brooklyn (Williamsburg-Greenpoint), Queens (either Long island city, Flushing, or Jamaica: when Aqueduct Racetrack closes for good), Nassau, or Suffolk county, while the Giants can build it in either the Bronx, Westchester (next to Yonkers Raceway or Rockland county by 2040 and the Meadowlands stadium will be replaced with real affordable housing, retail/restaurants and entertainment as well
What do you mean the Jets can build their stadium? You mean the Jets will try to gouge a community to build the stadium for them. Any City that builds the stadium for an NFL team have been played for fools
In fact I think that’s gonna happen. I got some friends who are close with the Giants, in NJ who tell me that once MetLife expires, NJ is going to be done with both teams by 2038-2040, seeing as by that year NJSEA, is set to dissolve. They’ve also told me that by 2035 the Giants are planning to move their Headquarters and Training Facility up to Weschester County most likely, White Plains. And their next Stadium will most likely be in Yonkers.
@@grantandersen I concur to that and the Jets (once the major corporation in New York City buys the franchise from the Johnson family) will sell the Training facility in Florham Park to the highest bidder and construct their new facility in either Maspeth (stadium would be built in Williamsburg-Greenpoint) Queens (Sunnyside Yard, Flushing or Jamaica) either way it's a winner for both sides
@@metsandjetsfan5174 The reason why Weschester County makes the most sense for the Giants is because the Mara’s and the Tisches are from and live there. The front office actually kinda operates out of Weschester already.
The Arrowhead renderings you posted after the Kansas stadium are out of order. The renovation renderings were "before" the vote that was rejected in April. Therefore the images you posted about a renovation are in fact what was turned down. The Kansas stadium proposal is the last thing on the board for the Chiefs as of this time. So the team is not "Leaning toward renovations. In fact if you dive deep into the bellows of this vote and the proposals, this vote for renovations was set up to fail so the Chiefs and Royals can get new stadiums outside of KCMO.
How in the world is the NFL allowing the commanders to continue playing another down in that building? I would be furious if I was a fan. Y’all deserve better.
I hate to tell you, but Ford Field sucks! Nobody can fit in the seats, it's way too cramped, and you can't view shit from the upper deck. Went there for a few lions games and a TSO concert and could barely see anything. It may not be the worst stadium, but it definitely needs to be replaced...and soon. Maybe if the lions win the Superbowl this year
Was at the BofA Stadium last year for a game and goddamn that thing needs some help - I have fond memories of watching various incarnations of my Colts embarrass the Panthers there, but the place is definitely showing its age, fingers crossed the upgrades work out Actually gonna be visiting Everbank this November, I bet that if nothing else, the Jags fans are gonna be lively as hell
It’s crazy that the Ravens stadium opened only 1 year after the Commanders stadiums. Yet the Ravens stadium still looks like a new stadium. Since they’re tearing down RFK Stadium. It only makes sense to build a new stadium there for the Commanders. It has rail access already.
In Philadelphia, there was once a stadium called Veterans Stadium, aka The Vet, which was home to both The Philadelphia Eagles, and The Philadelphia Phillies. It served both teams for 33 years. It was replaced by two stadiums, Lincoln Financial Field, aka The Linc, for The Eagles, and Citizens Bank Park, for The Phillies. The Linc is now more than 20 years old, and Citizens Bank is now almost 20 years old, and, amazingly, so far, there is no talk of replacing either stadium. I remember, when The Vet was imploded over 20 years ago, one fan of The Vet, who remembered that stadium from when it was brand new, was so heartbroken, that he said that he would probably be crying every night for the next 33 years after the implosion.
I love this channel, I’ve never been to the US but it’s wild to think that a stadium built 50 years ago is classed as ‘old’… In the UK that’s still relatively new 😅
Nah, it gets renovated pretty often and has a massive entertainment pavilion. Plus it’s 100% owned by the Kraft family so there is no risk of them losing it.
Kansas City resident here, the vote for funding that was rejected was almost exclusively the Royals fault. The proposal read like the kid who writes their paper at 11pm the night before, and isn't good at it either. The length of the tax extension was something stupid like 40 years, and if this video is any indication on how long pro sports stadiums will last it would probably be longer than the stadium would last. If the Chiefs were asking for the tax money and not tied to the Royals I would have bet money that it would have passed. This was very much a case of a group project that failed because one kid didn't do their part. One point of clarification. The tax extension was for the Royals to get a new stadium and the Chiefs would renovate with their money. Also under state law if a tax measure fails they have to wait 1 year to put it on the ballot again. They actually tried to get around this, but it will probably be on the ballot again in April.
I don't understand Miami's Hard Rock Stadium, being the 5th smallest. I wonder why they haven't gone bigger if they host the Super Bowl as often as they do?
Before I even watch I doubt NRG will be on here, that stadium has awesome views all over it for football games and concerts plus it’s got that big ass screen if you don’t wanna look down
It’s literally one of the worst stadiums in the nfl. Just like dodgers stadium, just because it’s iconic doesn’t mean it isn’t a total dump. It’s so bad compared to any of the modern nfl stadiums. And it’s not like Lambeau which is a timeless classic. Arrowhead is as antiquated as the coliseum was, and if chiefs fans remain in denial about this and hold up renovations I’m sure the hunts will have no problems relocating the team. This isn’t college football. The nfl doesn’t care about tradition and history. If you don’t have an ultramodern world class stadium that’s beautiful to look at you’re already behind. @@boogitybear2283 Hell yeah! I'm not even from the area, but to me? The Superdome is THE place to see football. There's a reason it has hosted so many Super Bowls.
Let their BILLIONAIRE owners buy one then.
Waste of tax payer money. Some of these teams could sell out 120,000 seats every game. that’s the only reason a team should be asking for a new stadium Is to meet demand for more seats. And stop asking for tax payer money for renovations
Shoutout to Chase Center in San Francisco for being built entirely without public money
Seriously, these teams could afford to build 2-3 stadiums EACH and pay for every penny out of their own pockets and still be in the black.

Let the teams build their own stadiums
I actually hope the NFL dosent make any new stadiums after ones that are already being built because you won’t get weather games which is a spirit of football that historic people in the NFL like John Madden loved. I know that some stadiums have opening domes but they don’t typically open them unless it’s good weather and most of the concepts for the new stadiums don’t seem to include this feature
They better have gotten new generators in the Superdome for the SB this time 💀
Or if cheap ass owners had to pay for the stadium vs suckers, (ie cities) they would have lasted longer!
Public funding for professional stadiums needs to be banned by a constitutional amendment.

Bank of America Stadium has been looooooong overdue for a replacement. Sucks that us Panthers fans will probably have to wait 20 years before we get a suitable replacement. As for that upcoming renovation, it's nothing but a band-aid placed on a festering wound.
I love how the stadium looks and its location. But I guess for years it's been lagging...
And don't forget it was also state funded
They won’t be replacing it. Most likely just wide scale renovations.
And I can say, aside from some faded plastic on the seats, that building still looks pretty good
Their place is cool AF the way the upper deck of seating is shaped/curved.
I wonder what a retro-classic football stadium would look like.
Arrowhead looks retro in some places.

Jerry needs a new stadium so he can get a bigger screen punters can hit more frequently.
Funny thing regarding Everbank: This will technically be the 2nd Total Renovation/Rebuild that may utilize some portions of the Gator Bowl
Nothing like people with a net worth north of several billion dollars holding the middle class hostage to build them stadiums to make them even more money.
I don't understand how they get public funding. It's unimaginable in football here in the UK.
"and the Glazers probably don't even care." Exactly.
MOM said hi dood.
Good vid as always.

I guarantee that the Jets and Giants will abandon the monstrosity known as MetLife stadium and New Jersey altogether so the Jets can build it in either Brooklyn (Williamsburg-Greenpoint),
Queens (either Long island city, Flushing, or Jamaica: when Aqueduct Racetrack closes for good), Nassau, or Suffolk county, while the Giants can build it in either the Bronx, Westchester (next to Yonkers Raceway or Rockland county by 2040 and the Meadowlands stadium will be replaced with real affordable housing, retail/restaurants and entertainment as well
What do you mean the Jets can build their stadium?
@@grantandersen I concur to that and the Jets (once the major corporation in New York City buys the franchise from the Johnson family) will sell the Training facility in Florham Park to the highest bidder and construct their new facility in either Maspeth (stadium would be built in Williamsburg-Greenpoint) Queens

Nah, it gets renovated pretty often and has a massive entertainment pavilion. Plus it’s 100% owned by the Kraft family so there is no risk of them losing it.
Brand new renovation. Kraft didn’t pour money into it for nothing.

Arrowhead is just fine no need to upgrade or replace
That place is an eyesore from the inside and out, no different from the dump the panthers play at.
It definitely needs upgrades. But something tells me they want to keep the “layout” so it remains extremely loud compared to new stadiums.
