I think if you look at history - you won't see any public funding of stadiums for sports teams - before - Ronnie Raygun - told everyone that it is all the governments fault - and just leave it to him - he will let rich people not pay taxes - and they will shower the rest of us peasants with their benevolence.
LA has a long history of not providing public financing for these types of structures. Not only is the Intuit Dome privately funded, but so was the $5.5 billion Sofi Stadium. The under construction George Lucas Museum is also privately funded.
And those owners had the money and will own the facilities. Miss Amy isn’t as rich as you may think, plus it’s the city that will own the stadium not the titans. The stadium is going to be used for all kinds of events, not just football. Also the taxpayers are not paying for this stadium if you’d pay attention, it’s being paid for by the tourists. Even if the taxpayers did pay for it, it wouldn’t matter, cause they would be spending nearly the same for the upkeep of the current stadium.
Yeah, because LA is the second largest market in the country. What are LA teams going to do? Tell the city they're going to leave? Here in Indianapolis, when taxpayers funded the Colts stadium, it was because we were truly fearful they might leave Indy.
The builder of sofi stadium, Stan Kroenke, threatened st Louis that he will leave if the city won’t agree to his stadium deal. The city give a good proposal and he still left. Fuck that guy.
Part of me is going to miss the old stadiums. I love the late season/playoff games in the cold weather and snow. It's wild to me that stadiums like the Patriots, Ravens, Giants/Jets, Steelers, Eagles are now seen as outdated. It feels like every owner just wants an indoor $2 billon mega stadium.
Because the NFL sees the path to the future is to not present the NFL as a sporting event, but more as a theme park that is generating money 365 days a year. A stadium open for 10 football games, tractor pulls, and the occasional out door concert, is not getting the return that a stadium in use year around with an entertainment district, condos, apartments, shopping, movie theaters, resturants, bars, and night clubs, can generate.
@TheLAGopher An entertainment district set up by a municipality around a stadium doesn't make it a them park that generates revenue year round. None of that you just said made any sense. Concerts, other shows, and sporting events is what stadiums are used for. That is how they make money. Period. Stadiums simply getting larger and more expensive doesn't change that. It's still a stadium.
This does absolutely nothing to improve the daily life of a Nashville citizen, in fact, it will add to the stress of commuting and makes the parking situation even worse. It's only good for the big business guys and the state of TN, who do not have the best interest of Tennesseans in mind
I supervise construction in Nashville, and my company does work for the company that is building the new Nissan stadium. I assume we will be doing work in there. Pretty damn cool.
There was always discussion that the current site of the existing stadium would be turned into a Riverfront Park. As well, some last-minute design changes has increased the total cost of the stadium to $2.2B, with the additional $.1B absorbed by the Titans.
Billionaire have regular citizens pay for stadium merchandise 10 dollar hot dogs 12 dollar beers ect this is insane we the people need to wake up to this kind of stuff
There is one key detail that needs to be mentioned. The titans deal created the opportunity for the city to bid out adjacent parcels of land for new development as well. Metro has awarded the initial 30 acres already and will begin receiving ground lease payments, substantially increased property tax revenue, and immeasurable economic benefit from that deal. The city also is requiring a certain number of affordable housing units be built around the stadium and that number totals more than 700 in just the initial 30 acres.
I’m in Jacksonville and these comments are hilarious; they’re very similar to the comments Jacksonville residents were making. I say step into the future; this is going to be awesome.
As with the plans considered for other NFL venues like KC, the design caters to the wealthy and ultra wealthy crowd with premium entertainment levels and suites. Leaving the larger and dedicated average fan base out in the cold to watch on TV. Which has its own growing cost challenges due to the advent of paid streaming services.
Warriors - Chase Center Arena, was fully privately funded by the Warriors as well. They didn't ask a dime for the 1.4bill in public funding. They were the 1st professional team ever to do that.
As an Australian, it's amazing how many American stadiums have the concerns of 'bUt wHeReS tHe pArKiNg'. Like, have y'all never heard of trains lmao? We have 80,000 seat stadiums with ZERO parking - you just get jump on the train and go wherever you need to go. No traffic, no hassles.
Even if the stadium makes money for the city, the people won't see any of it. It will probably just raise prices in the area because "it's a new stadium".
Its the dome that Taylor, Beyonce, and Garth built. The use of existing Nissan stadium as a concert venue(especially during CMA fest) is the reason it is being replaced. What does the weather in Nashville do during the evening in June?? Thunderstorms. So many concerts have been delayed or canceled at the existing outdoor stadium, it usually happens once or twice a year. Thus the dome.
I went to CMA fest and before we arrived, it poured down rain. The seats were wet and it started to sprinkle. I’m glad that the new stadium adds a dome.
Another issue are those clauses that many NFL teams have with their stadium leases stating to one degree to another that their current stadium must be in the top tier of NFL stadiums otherwise the team can break the lease and move their team to a city willing to fund a new state of the art stadium for them (e.g Rams to LA)
Another thing is that top tier clause was put in place in the 90s when the NFL was undergoing expansion into Jacksonville, and Carolina. But also a relocation boom of NFL teams moving to St.Louis,Nashville, back to Oakland, and into Baltimore (requiring the NFL to expand back into Cleveland) Cities desperate to get teams, and keep teams signed off on "top tier" clauses. What they didn't see coming was the rise of "Destination" NFL stadiums that were not marketed as hallowed grounds for pro football but as lavis sports meccas where the building itself, is the attraction.
I see some saying Alliegant Stadium in Vegas only sits 5,000 more at 65,000. What they don't know it expanse to 72,000 for Superbowl or other big events. It sits 75,000 for concerts
As an upper deck PSL holder since the beginning, I wouldn't mind being indoors for once. I burn up August - early October and freeze in the winter, not to mention getting soaked in the rain. I still go to the games even in the extremes, but it would be nice to not have to deal with it.

There is a story about the PSL license prices being tripled or quadrupled for the new stadium, the actual ticket to get in the gate will be even more expensive.
parking wouldn’t be an issue should tennessee and nashville choose to invest in public transportation. a 25 year old stadium is not bad. you don’t need a “first class” stadium people went to dumps to watch football and baseball for years.
It's needed to draw bread-and-circus tourist attraction events like the Super Bowl, Final Four, and WrestleMania. I'm sure it'll host plenty of SEC Championships and various bowl games as well. But to not even invest in public transit in a city equally as saturated as Austin to improve traffic/accessibility when those types of events come to Nashville...
Public transportation sucks, I rather sit in my car in traffic, than ever ever have to ride a fuckin bus or train again. Waiting on the street or a park in ride, hoping something shows up, god forbid the weather is bad. Standing packed in like sardines in extreme heat, I've been thrown up on, attacked, on and on..... nope, fuck all that.
@@rickcobos1724 So efficiency is the problem? lol Didn't realize "efficiency" improves weather, volume, traffic, crime and types of people riding. Please enlighten me, where are all these efficient public transports in America??
Nashville...smh. This city always manages to waste money. The absolute dumbest thing that they ever did was getting rid of Opryland. It was hands down one of the best theme parks in America. My family loved it. I have great memories from going as a child. Everybody loved it. But, they shut it down and built a mall where it used to be. A mall. Malls are quickly becoming extinct. How shortsighted was that? Years later, they even admitted that it was a horrible mistake. But, it's too late. The damage is done. But, yes, Nashville, please waste some more money on a stadium that will be outdated in 15 years and you'll be unhappy with it too.
Why are Americans obsessed with car parks? Check out the MCG in Melbourne Australia, capacity 100k + and would be lucky to have 500 car parks.. actually pretty much every stadium in Australia no matter how big doesn't have parking
So, as someone from Nashville the biggest controversy with this stadium is that they shrunk it down significantly (with massive ticket price hikes to make up for the loss ticket revenue potential) and that makes it even MORE difficult for the born and raised locals to afford to go to the games. There will be no stadium specific parking and Nashville has effectively 0 public transportation. So, price gouged parking across the river will be the best option. The interstates are a disaster at best, but that isn't new and is still dealt with today. The stadium's public funding is in large part being funded by tourism tax, hotel tax, and gameday day tax. Overall, I think it is awesome we are getting a new stadium! However Nashville has announced no plans to help accommodate for 50k+ people driving to a game. Where is the rail? Where are the bus lines? Where is the increased interstate capacity? (Not Choice Lanes, that's a scam.) Why they decided to use Artificial turf is beyond me. You will soon see that you will lose opportunities to host other massive sporting events like the World Cup when they eventually refuse to play on not natural surfaces. As for those complaining the owners should pay for, the stadium costs $2b dollars. Amy Adams Strunk's net worth is only about $2b... so it was either fund a stadium or let another city fund a stadium and say goodbye to the NFL in Nashville.
The artificial turf they installed last year at Nissan stadium is so much cheaper to maintain and causes fewer injuries than grass. It also looks so much better. I am really happy that turf is in now so that the Titans are used to it before moving into the new stadium. There is a new transit plan to vote on in November. And I am glad you brought up the owners' net worth. They are contributing a decent amount, and they don't have the money to fund it themselves (though I do wish they had funded more).
Is there actually anything wrong with the current stadium? It seems to me that upgrading it to a "first class condition" means they want more skyboxes and private rooms for the influx of rich people to spend more money on bottle service while watching the game on the TV.
Visual foundation cracking, and a ton of damage when we had the historic 100 year flood, renovation could only go so far. There was very light damage from a Christmas Day bombing we had a few years ago. The biggest thing is that its outdated, and since Nashville attracts so many toruists for sporting, convention, and especially large concerts already at Nissan Stadium, this domed design makes it more attractive especially with how bad some inclement weather became when we had to cancel large concerts.
One not w have is the area beside the new stadium won’t be a parking lot. The city is making a strong push to redevelop the entire east bank of the river. It will park space or mixed use development
I'm not a TN local, but I'm aware that the state is car-centric. My ideal version of Nashville would be public transit, with the land next door being turned into a major transit center. I've been there before and the pedestrian bridge to me seems like the perfect beginning piece of transit accessibility.
I love where the ownership hires a firm to evaluate the stadium and they amazingly found that it would Be cost effective for the state to build a new stadium.
The visible foundation cracking was a big part, but the huge concerts and other large events the city has is more incentive to build a domed smatadoum.
The current stadium was “Valued engineered” to get the cost down so it would pass the city council the 1st time. Value engineering means cheaply built. While it’s not falling apart, it would cost too much money to fix things like the sewer and plumbing issues.also things have change in 20 years with the game day experience that require more electric usage and other things. I have never liked the stadium setup and that 300 deck is very high up and steep.
They have done absolutely NOTHING about I-24 or any other interstate downtown to help with the terrible traffic. It's truly criminal.

There's definitely an obsession with those High definition, Halo screens in the infrastructure across the USA currently 😂 They're so clear in person too 😭
Disgusting that billionaire owners arent willing to part with their own funds and gouge the taxpayer, then charge outrageous ticket prices!!
The owner actually liquidated some of her assets and did put up money.
@@averycash9899so if they can’t afford the whole thing then why do it? Sofi owner paid for his and so did clippers owner

Cost of living out there is outrageous regardless of their stadiums being funded privately.
@@JonathanHalliday81tourists are being forced to pay for something they’re not using lmao. It’s still a scam
My daughter lives in Nashville. The traffic there and secondary roads are awful.
Because the NFL sees the path to the future is to not present the NFL as a sporting event, but more as a theme park that is generating money
365 days a year. A stadium open for 10 football games, tractor pulls, and the occasional out door concert, is not getting the return that
a stadium in use year around with an entertainment district, condos, apartments, shopping, movie theaters, resturants, bars, and night clubs,
can generate.
As a Titans fan I am pissed it only holds 60,000 seats. What a joke
Why exactly?

This does absolutely nothing to improve the daily life of a Nashville citizen, in fact, it will add to the stress of commuting and makes the parking situation even worse. It's only good for the big business guys and the state of TN, who do not have the best interest of Tennesseans in mind
PSL cost are outrageous!! 25 to 50K for 50 yard line.
I supervise construction in Nashville, and my company does work for the company that is building the new Nissan stadium. I assume we will be doing work in there. Pretty damn cool.
Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA is starting a new trend for new stadiums around the USA
Sofi in LA did that. I was like, "$2 billion for a stadium in LA, that makes sense." Then they started charging that everywhere. They are GREEDY.
The lack of transit and infrastructure in This city is the worst. I'm quite upset that they are prioritizing this instead.
The mere fact that the new stadium has LESS seating than the old one is unforgivable that should never be the case with a new stadium.
There was always discussion that the current site of the existing stadium would be turned into a Riverfront Park. As well, some last-minute design changes has increased the total cost of the stadium to $2.2B, with the additional $.1B absorbed by the Titans.
What a HUGE WIN for the stiffed taxpayers.......
Billionaire have regular citizens pay for stadium merchandise 10 dollar hot dogs 12 dollar beers ect this is insane we the people need to wake up to this kind of stuff
You had me at wrestlemania
Hi, just an FYI ... (@2:17) SoFi Stadium is in INGLEWOOD not ENGLEWOOD.
Good informative video, thanks!
I live in Middle Tennessee. I want to put out that Bob Kraft paid for the Patriots stadium out of his own pocket.
How much tourism does Foxborough get? How often does Gillette stadium host anything other than patriots games?
Warriors - Chase Center Arena, was fully privately funded by the Warriors as well. They didn't ask a dime for the 1.4bill in public funding. They were the 1st professional team ever to do that.
There is no way the current stadium needs replacing. And I guess 30 years from now, the Titans will want yet another new stadium. It’s insane.
I’m tired of funding these places with my tax money and never being able to go to them!!
Even if the stadium makes money for the city, the people won't see any of it. It will probably just raise prices in the area because "it's a new stadium".
Isn’t it so nice we have pay the team’s owners to exploit us!
Nashville can afford it as it's basically recession proof, with the surrounding area full of big money
I like the new stadium. But man.. parking was already rough before yall removed the parking lot.. now it’s gonna be atrocious
Everywhere has thunderstorms, LOL.
I went to CMA fest and before we arrived, it poured down rain. The seats were wet and it started to sprinkle. I’m glad that the new stadium adds a dome.
@@breadstick7575 Have you ever gone to an outdoor event before? This is pathetic.
Here in LA we said no to public funding of these billionaire stadiums. Both Intuit and Sofi Stadiums were privately funded.

Did this project have a direct vote on a ballet? Something of this magnitude should not be decided by a council (even though the council is elected).
This would be so nice! Have you seen the new Browns stadium design?! Insane.
Economy can’t be that bad to shell out a cool 2 billion .

But also a relocation boom of NFL teams moving to St.Louis,Nashville, back to Oakland, and into Baltimore (requiring the NFL to expand
back into Cleveland)
Cities desperate to get teams, and keep teams signed off on "top tier" clauses.
What they didn't see coming was the rise of "Destination" NFL stadiums that were not marketed as hallowed grounds for pro football
but as lavis sports meccas where the building itself, is the attraction.
I see some saying Alliegant Stadium in Vegas only sits 5,000 more at 65,000. What they don't know it expanse to 72,000 for Superbowl or other big events. It sits 75,000 for concerts
There’s nothing like outdoors football. Too many indoor NFL stadiums. The weather conditions makes the game more unique.

There was nothing wrong with the current Nissan stadium

I think it's awesome
And the hood is just a few hundred feet away.
I hate that as a Nashville area tax payer, that I will on the hook for the next 25 years if they want to upgrade that new stadium.
I miss the old days when it was called the Colosseum. That was cool.
Oakland had the same thing happen with the raiders. They chose not to pay for the stadium and the team left.
Wait a minute what new event can be held in new stadium which can never be held in old one?
I’m happy for the new stadium. Most of these people complaining don’t even live in Tennessee 😂
um, maybe because projects like this set a disturbing precedent, thus, impacting people who "don't even live in Tennessee".
Just a thought - I presume there was some graft involved.
Traffic already fucked up 🤔
It won’t raise money, though. The new stadiums never do. So this won’t benefit Nashville, at all.
(Not Choice Lanes, that's a scam.)
Why they decided to use Artificial turf is beyond me.
When "i`m playing in cleveland / tenessee in winter / kansas" morfs to: "i`m playing in a nice warm stadium with a roof and heated turf".
I love it.🎩🎱
It would not be big enough to host the Super Bowl.
Yes it would. That “70,000” rule has been broken several times

I love where the ownership hires a firm to evaluate the stadium and they amazingly found that it would
Be cost effective for the state to build a new stadium.
The visible foundation cracking was a big part, but the huge concerts and other large events the city has is more incentive to build a domed smatadoum.
They can build a 2.1 billion stadium but can’t fix sum potholes around town😂
The current stadium was “Valued engineered” to get the cost down so it would pass the city council the 1st time.
Value engineering means cheaply built. While it’s not falling apart, it would cost too much money to fix things like the sewer and plumbing issues.also things have change in 20 years with the game day experience that require more electric usage and other things. I have never liked the stadium setup and that 300 deck is very high up and steep.
