Overall, I think MK7 is one of the worst, most forgettable, and most generic and uninteresting games in the series, and I agree with most of the points made in the video.
@@Lunar1314_ First off thanks taking the time to respond to my comment! (I didn't mean that in a sarcastic way😅) So theres two points that I want to uphold about my argument, First I didn't compare MK to CoD or AC. the reason I mention these games was because of the assets rehash accusation in the video. The assets used in MK7 is a small blemished in the history of this series compare to other big budget aaa games out there. That was my argument. The other point I want to defend is that I think that MK7 was a hidden gem because it began to introduce features that were perfected in MK8. If I would rephrased what I said then I would say that MK7 is not recognize for its fresh new mechanics that were introduced with this game. You have gliding being introduce, underwater racing which opens new areas in old courses has well, kart building mechanic which gives you customization options and long winding courses that evolve has the race goes on. MK8 technically only brought Anti gravity and prettier graphics. So in the video this game gets accused of rehashing, but when you look at it MK8 "rehashed" a lot of its features. So to my understanding a hidden gem it's a game that was ahead of its time, but fails to capture the audience when its release. MK7 meets this quota. Has for pitting MK7 against MKDS... Well MK7 is prettier to look at, but I get it graphics don't fully make a game. Heres the thing. MK7's track selection is phenomenal. A bunch of tracks like the musical park, Shy guy bazaar and Piranha plant water slide where awesome new additions alongside awesome renditions of Bowsers castle and rainbow road. But on top of that they brought classic heavy hitters like Waluigi Pinball (I know... He's missing), Maple treeway, Daisys cruise, Kalamary desert, airship fortress and mushroom gorge among others. This selection is not bad at all, In fact a lot of the tracks that we got for MK7 have ended up has DLC for MK8. Now in all fairness MKDS had that Mission mode with bosses, that while I think was a bit overrated its still and interesting and fun addition, and to be honest MKDS also had a better Battle mode. personally I don't really care much for Battle mode but theres a lot of people that seem to enjoy it, so more power to then. I personally think that people just jump in the bandwagon and bash this game , but its not a bad MK, now if you enjoy MKDS more than MK7, hey thats cool. I played both games the same year and in my case it was the complete opposite I found MK7 to be more fun.

MKDS is my favorite MK but you are right. MK7 is the better experience and has aged really well. Mario Kart 7 is the reason why I’m so good at Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The glider and under water features are game changing mechanics that would be difficult to understand if you didn’t play Mario Kart 7
"It added nothing significant except gliding and underwater sections" ...additions that increase level and shortcut variety and became staples of the series?
Well to be fair Waluigi is a iconic character that started in Mario Kart Double Dash but all of a sudden he’s not in the game but a Wiggler with hands is.
@@georgeshaw4017Waluigi adds nothing to the table. He’s the purple Wario. At least Birdo has a distinctive style and Daisy has a fleshed out personality. It’s easy to replace Waluigi since he’s nothing more than a filler slot
That’s kinda hypocritical. They yell at Honey Queen for being a throwback, but yell because Pink Gold Peach exists in 8. I only really got mad because Metal Mario got over Waluigi, and I actually LIKED Honey Queen.
I thought the first-person mode was pretty neat because it gave each track a more atmospheric effect that you can't experience in any other Mario Kart game!
@@Lunar1314_ So, yes, I agree that it certainly hinders your vision of the track around you and is more of a limitation overall, however, if you have played the game as long as I have, you would know these tracks so well by now that you can beat them with a more limited vision.
@@Lunar1314_ I just like seeing these old tacks in a new, more atmospheric perspective. I also know that it doubles as a way to play with motion controls, but for some reason that doesn’t happen for me. Maybe I turned them off by accident.
A few things, 1: when you said Pyra/Mythra were a strange choice, please tell me you meant Steve (and NOT just because I told you to), 2: Considering how obnoxious Waluigi is, his being excluded is more than likely a blessing in disguise, 3: Bowser Jr should not have been brought back, 4: What makes Dr Mario so much better than Metal Mario?, 5: Don't you dare insult Rosalina's Ice World in my presence.
1: I think ROB in MKDS is a way stranger choice lol 2: I 100% agree, Waluigi is garbage 3: Bowser Jr is literally one of the most relevant and memorable characters in the franchise, why on earth should he not have been brought back? 4: Dr. Mario is not in Mario Kart..? 5: Rosalina's Ice World is pretty neat, I guess. I don't think it's that good, but it's got nice music.
@@Lunar1314_ For 4, I was responding to a hypothetical the creator of the video made. (And Dr Mario is available in Tour, so depending on how you count that, you're only half-right)
The leaf was pretty good for defending against bombs though, because for whatever reason it seems like you're able to just straight up delete the explosion with a tail swipe, so you could just spam it when one was thrown at you to get past it unscathed... but it also messes up drifting and turns with the hopping on use, so it could have done without that really.
I agree with a lot of points, but not with your final conclusion. I absolutely loved Mario Kart 7 and talked about it quite often. Yes it had a few issues like the lack of vs mode, boring character roster and less than desirable battle mode, but they didn't really affect how great the things that did exist were. In retrospect, you say this game lacks identity, but that's not the fault of 7, that's the fault of Mario Kart 8 just being Mario Kart 7 2.0.
I actually have beat the game in first person mode, just without using the gyro controls. I wish they added a first person mode to Mariokart 8 but that’ll never happen. It adds a really cool new perspective (literally) in every track, letting you see the track and the surrounding world at ground level. It’s very immersive, and also adds more difficulty because of your severely limited FOV.
I feel like people hate on Mario Kart 7 way too much, yeah it's missing features (like VS mode jesus stop whining about VS mode missing) but that doesn't automatically make the game a "Forgettable Mess" or anything. TBH I think Super and Super Circuit are more of a "Forgettable Mess" than 7.
It wasnt forgettable to me 😂 download play with this game was crazy. At school, or when i met up with extended family we only needed one copy for everyone with a 3ds to have a blast. Im really appreciative of that, it was an awesome way to share the fun with no paywall
Mario kart 7 was praised until 8 came along, didn't play either so who knows. Changed the way the whole series is named, so it was not a failure by any metric
I feel Melee made Metal Mario into a different entity in the fanbase as he seemed like a villain in the game. Dropping from the sky and slamming down, getting up silently. But thats just how I see it
the only thing i hate about mk7 is that it dosent have the mega mushroom powerup. i loved it in mk wii but since it was taken away, it feels odd without it
Im sorry but this is a terrible take. This game brought back all the fan favorites retro tracks, especially from Wii, during time when annoying mkwii fans didnt walk all over Nintendo like they do now. Also, the gliding is arguably better in this game than it is in mk8, i think everyone can agree on that. And if it was so called forgettable than some if its tracks never would have returned in 8. And i dont think forgettable games sell nearly 20 million units, or are the bests selling games on the handheld. This game is great, but since its between literally the 2 best games in the series it often becomes obscure and underrated
I strongly disagree. The tracks are genuinely amazing imo. My second favorite tracks selection of the series. The gameplay is also very good and I really appreciate the things it introduces. I also really like the vehicles in this game. Would probably be my third or even second favorite Mario Kart game if it wasn’t for the fact it has no vs mode, and if the character roster was a bit better. Has to settle for fourth though.
Aight time to defend the super leaf cause it’s honestly not that bad and if no one is gonna do it, guess I have to. I can agree it’s a bit mediocre in second and third, but In first place it can shred. Picture this: you usually get bananas or green shells in first, so having a third possible option is already a plus, that and the whole point of first is playing defensive and staying ahead, the super leaf fulfills that defensive role perfectly. As I said before, it’s not as good when you’re behind, but it’s truly a beast when In first. Twenty times better than the blooper too, bloopers are just anti-MarioKart
Mario kart 7 was my first 3ds game. My issues with it are not a lot of characters. the courses where you have sections. the rainbow road in this game is a NIGHTMARE on mirror cup mode.
I %100 agree that this game was forgettable. There were some good, memorable tracks, but a lot of it was pretty uninspired. fwiw I do think Wario's Shipyard and RRM/Alpine Pass are pretty underrated tracks, but other than that? all I remember are the obvious ones (Circuit tracks, Wuhu tracks, Music Park/Melody Motorway, Neo Bowser City, and Rainbow Road. Even then, the circuit tracks are a technicality at best). Hell I like the themes and ideas in Shy Guy Bazaar, and I hope it gets remade in the Booster Course Pass because I feel like they totally could have done more with it, but base MK7 SGB is just kinda there. Wiggler and Honey Queen certainly made the roster unique, but I was never a fan of their inclusions. MK8 has just expanded on MK7 so much, and all the tracks worth playing (except the Wuhu tracks and Wario's Shipyard) have all been ported to MK8 over the years (Music Park/Melody Motorway in the base game, Neo Bowser City in the WiiU DLC/Switch Base game, and Toad Circuit, RRM/Alpine Pass, and Rainbow Road in the Booster Course Pass). Even the best Retro tracks (Coconut Mall, Maple Treeway, Waluigi Pinball, and Kalamari Desert) are all in the Booster Course Pass. Really doesn't leave much of a reason to play MK7, unless you want to play N64 Luigi Raceway online or something.
For me this is probably the most whatever Mario Kart game in the series, I still like it but compared to most of the other games I'd rather play those ones. I just had way more fun with Double Dash, DS, 64 and 8 Deluxe
Good points were made but even those don't make the game a forgettable mess at all in my opinion It's still a great mario kart game with cool new tracks, and it was also their first take on new concepts that were definitely worth adding It's overshadowed by 8, sure, but it's still a very solid entry that had a good run
Dude what are you talking about, MK7 is a great game, i even played this game the most in my 2DS, you claiming it is a forgettable mess is just too extreme... (PIN THIS)
Wait guys stop he has a point why did 7 reuse the most iconic part of Mario kart Wii the character unlock theme, I can't believe this what a shameless terrible lazy game this is also fun fact the starting line theme in Wii is reused from double dash
Imma watch this video later, but for now I heavily disagree with the title. Mario Kart 7 is the blueprint for MK8, and in terms of gameplay I enjoy it far better then MK8 on the Switch. Not to mention MK8 on Wii U didn't even have a battle mode, and a very forgettable cast. So MK7 was actually doing a lot right, and was more developed then MK8 on Wii U. MK8 Deluxe is literally a 9 year old game that Nintendo won't let die, and in terms of innovating the Mario Kart genre, Mario Kart 7 pushed the line way further then 8 ever did. Put some respect on its name.
I disagree with pretty much everything you said. I think MK8 has significantly better gameplay than MK7, with much better handling, much better physics, drifting and mini-turbos are a lot more satisfying, the tracks are way better and there's 72 of them in the game as of writing this. Not to mention, the Wii U version definitely had a battle mode even if it wasn't great (still better than MK7's imo). Also, I don't understand what you mean by "a very forgettable cast", as MK8 literally has every character from MK7 except for Wiggler and Honey Queen, plus a lot more. It's worth noting that the reason why Nintendo "Won't let MK8DX die" is because it's a golden goose that's still selling a ton of copies. Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, watch the fucking video before you complain about it goddamn
@@Lunar1314_ How is MK8 battle mode better, when it didn't even have its own stages? That was the biggest criticisms of Mario Kart 8. MK8 Deluxe had to damage control a battle mode into the game. Literally most of MK8 is features from Mario Kart 7, and were also done better in 7. Kart customization, gliding, driving underwater, the lucky 7, and large race tracks all came from MK7. Yes Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has more stages, but its through DLC, something Nintendo didn't do for the 3DS at the time until much after Mk7 came out in 2011. We'll have to agree to disagree on what we personally think is better at handling/physics, because imo MK7 blows 8 out the water.
@@chewezx1767 Alright So the battle mode thing, I think even though MK8's battle stages were normal tracks, they still worked really well for balloon battle, and I think they were more fun to battle on than the stages in MK7. I agree the battle mode in MK8 is less interesting, but if we're going off of what was more fun, then I had a lot more fun with MK8's battle mode than MK7's. This is a very subjective point for me, though, and I totally understand why people wouldn't like it. I disagree that the battle mode in MK8DX was damage control. I think it's Nintendo fixing something a lot of people had issues with. As you said, it was the biggest criticism for MK8, and they fixed it. About the features from MK7, I actually think this is a really interesting topic. I don't think of it as MK8 borrowing and reusing mechanics from MK7, but rather MK7 introducing cool ass gimmicks that (hopefully) will stay in the series. However, I do think MK8 improved on those mechanics. There are way, way more vehicle parts (and there are now more types of vehicles, instead of just karts), and the underwater parts are a lot easier to control. The large tracks weren't really improved, but they weren't downgraded either. They just made more of them, which is cool. The gliding is kind of a mixed bag, I like the gliding in MK8 more, but I can see why one would prefer MK7's over it. Also, I don't know why you brought up the Lucky 7, the Crazy 8 is pretty much the same thing. MK8DX has 48 tracks without DLC (the DLC tracks from the Wii U version are included from the start in DX), and will eventually have 96 with DLC. MK7 has 32 tracks. I understand that the game didn't have DLC, but that doesn't change the fact that MK7 has a lot fewer tracks to choose from, DLC or not. I agree that we should agree to disagree (what a sentence) on the handling and physics. The reason why I prefer MK8 in this regard is because of how satisfying it feels. Drifting feels incredibly smooth, and the mini-turbos feel powerful as hell. Driving in MK8 is just so fast-paced and cool, and it's something I think MK7 doesn't have. The game feels really slow and awkward to me, which is why I don't like it. It's cool that you like it though.
I think that the most forgettable point of MK7 is its presentation, the game doesn't have a proper identity to make it memorable besides of the new mechanics. However you can't denie that the tracks are amazing like Wario Shipyard, Maka Wuhu and Rainbow Road. Plus the retro selection is great
It's really hard for me to enjoy MK7's rainbow road because the music is great but I just can't get over how ugly the moon looks, how ugly saturns ring looks, with all the holes in it and stuff, and also the fact that there is straight up a random mushroom in space that you need to bounce off of.
I kinda agree to an extent, but it's still one of my favorites. Still, I never really got the appeal of the moon part. Sure it's kinda cool, but it doesn't play well at all.
@Lunar1314 it's mostly the music that I really like, the rest of the track is more or less focused too much around the space part than the rainbow part, which is why I don't like mk8's rainbow road either Now ds' rainbow road on the other hand
@@MRtetri5 DS Rainbow Road is bland and boring imo, At Least 3DS Rainbow Road does something unique. DS Rainbow Road is just Rainbow Road but with Anti Gravity before Anti Gravity parts.
mk7 walked so mk8 could run.(even if 3 people had a Wii U). in all honesty, I loved mario kart 7 and im still playing it to this day and I loved all the new tracks it had and all the tracks it brings back. it might be forgettable since its between Ds, Wii, and 8, but I will always love it for what its supposed to be and what its supposed to do.
I think it is forgettable cause mario kart 7 is just worse mario kart 8. Unlike double dash, or wii, it doesn't have any unique identity, its just mario kart 8, but worse
25:25 Wouldn't that actually imply that mk8 is a soulless addition instead of the other way around since it is almost the same except for anti grav which doesnt even feel that different?
For me, Mario Kart 7 is just like Super Smash Bros 3DS. They are great games, but the home console versions are better. That's just how things work. Now the Nintendo Switch has substituted nearly all the Nintendo early consoles library, but these early handhelds were really great. Mario Kart 7 lacks the Versus mode, but that's the only flaw of this game in my opinion, and I never cared about it. It was a great step in the series and a great step compared to Mario Kart DS, which is very worse, specially competitively.
The Online is fucking golden. Running into hackers was funny as shit. I despise the switch after they announced they are shutting down the online servers. Probably to raise switch sales.
Mario Kart 7 is one of my favorites tbh. I think the track selection is S tier, and maybe the best in the series. I understand why you don't like it though.
idk, I never liked this game it was okay, but I think the game feels kinda slow-paced, if that makes sense? The handling felt kinda weird and I never really got used to it. I also think the nitro tracks were pretty bland, and the lack of a single-player VS mode shattered the game's replayability

Good point, I don't actually own Switch myself so I made my statement based on what I have heard from other people. "My only problem with the glider is they're designed to fill an otherwise boring part of the track."
That's the point.
"It added nothing significant except gliding and underwater sections" ...additions that increase level and shortcut variety and became staples of the series?
People complain about unique character choices in MK7 and then find it weird when Nintendo puts variations of existing characters in the next MK.
Well to be fair Waluigi is a iconic character that started in Mario Kart Double Dash but all of a sudden he’s not in the game but a Wiggler with hands is.
Waluigi did not originate from Double Dash
@@TheMarionick I’m not saying that’s where he was first created. I’m saying that’s the FIRST MARIO KART he was in.
I only really got mad because Metal Mario got over Waluigi, and I actually LIKED Honey Queen.
i'm kind of sad the tanuki tail didn't make it into 8, as in 8 it might actually have a use preventing people from zero-g boosting off your kart.

Yeah, but it comes at the cost of making the game nearly unplayable.
@@Lunar1314_ So, yes, I agree that it certainly hinders your vision of the track around you and is more of a limitation overall, however, if you have played the game as long as I have, you would know these tracks so well by now that you can beat them with a more limited vision.

Mario Kart 7 is peak nostalgia, not by any means a forgettable game.
1: I think ROB in MKDS is a way stranger choice lol

In retrospect, you say this game lacks identity, but that's not the fault of 7, that's the fault of Mario Kart 8 just being Mario Kart 7 2.0.
its so forgettable because mario kart 8 is basically the same just with more content and there's no reason to revisit it
0:30 Mario kart Super circuit: Am I a joke to you?
I actually have beat the game in first person mode, just without using the gyro controls. I wish they added a first person mode to Mariokart 8 but that’ll never happen. It adds a really cool new perspective (literally) in every track, letting you see the track and the surrounding world at ground level. It’s very immersive, and also adds more difficulty because of your severely limited FOV.
This game is pretty underrated, there should be more love to it and appreciated
I feel like people hate on Mario Kart 7 way too much, yeah it's missing features (like VS mode jesus stop whining about VS mode missing) but that doesn't automatically make the game a "Forgettable Mess" or anything. TBH I think Super and Super Circuit are more of a "Forgettable Mess" than 7.
It wasnt forgettable to me 😂 download play with this game was crazy. At school, or when i met up with extended family we only needed one copy for everyone with a 3ds to have a blast. Im really appreciative of that, it was an awesome way to share the fun with no paywall
Mario kart 7 controls way better than 8 in my opinion , it has a better track selection to me too
Metal Mario is my main don’t hate on him like that ☹️
Mario kart 7 was praised until 8 came along, didn't play either so who knows. Changed the way the whole series is named, so it was not a failure by any metric
Only thing i dont like about this game is the fact that you gotta grind 20000 fucking coins just for a kart part that isn't even good.

That's funny since CTGP-7 (a mod for MK7) added the Mega Mushroom into the game.
If you like Mario Kart 7...you’re not a real man.
Real men play m&m’s kart racing

Can we bring back mission Mode in Mario kart 9?
Sounds like a skill issue to me
I actually agree with most of what you said. MK7 walked so MK8 could run.

@@chewezx1767
Alright
So the battle mode thing, I think even though MK8's battle stages were normal tracks, they still worked really well for balloon battle, and I think they were more fun to battle on than the stages in MK7.
@@Lunar1314_wrote a damn article
Mk8's battle mode wasn't anywhere near better than mk7s or even mkwiis until the switch port
also the super leaf is busted because its stronger than a red. so if someone has a triple shells its wil break all 3 of them. very good for online.
My only criticism is that retrospectively the controls feel stiff. It’s not a mess at all personally
Special Mention Waluigi is not in Mario kart 7 I was so mad back in 2011 and 2012
I think that the most forgettable point of MK7 is its presentation, the game doesn't have a proper identity to make it memorable besides of the new mechanics.
@Lunar1314 it's mostly the music that I really like, the rest of the track is more or less focused too much around the space part than the rainbow part, which is why I don't like mk8's rainbow road either
Now ds' rainbow road on the other hand

I find it interesting to hear different takes on this game. I play the game competitive
I always saw Mario Kart 7 as a Mario Kart 8 port, because they are and look so similar
It's the other way around. MK7 introduced the glider and the underwater sections. I remember this game fondly.
Mk7 and smash bros 3ds are not the same. There was no home console version for Mario kart 8
