As a kid, If I couldn’t get past a Mario level after more than 5 tries, I used a unique power up that was only available to certain players. It was called the “Older Sibling Power up” it was very useful but occasionally it would cause a glitch where it wouldn’t give control back to the original player again.

Small Mario losing his cap is probably a reference to how you become weaker in Super Mario 64 after losing your cap.
Also, this game doesn't have the triple jump, but if you make 3 consecutive jumps, the third jump will always have a slightly different animation.

  • @Goldfire345

A slight correction The 3ds circle pad actually does allow for full analog movement in most of the games that utilize it
3d land is one of the few exceptions. 3d land was likely programmed that way to mimic 2d Mario more closely. Because those games have digital movement and a run button.
    Monster hunter (all of them)
    Xenoblade 3d
Even 2d platformers llke metroid Samus returns
And top down games like a link between worlds
And many more games all have full analog movment with the circle pad

As someone who hasnt fully played any of the Mario games since 64. 3D Land and World always seemed to get hated on just because they were a combination of the playstyles of 2D and 3D Mario games and not a full fledged new 3D Mario like Odyssey eventually was. But it seems like people are now starting to appreciate the games for what they were.

Super Mario 3D Land for me is a landmark title. It was my first ever handheld game. The Red Limited Edition 3DS I have comes with the game installed, and I played it quite a LOT when I was a child. It's by far the most played game on 3DS. Super Mario 3D Land to me is what an ideal 3D Mario game with classic elements should look like and play like. The short and sweetness of the levels makes it a frequent in my eyes, especially since every stage measures your fastest time, which I have spent many hours as a child speedrunning every stage, getting some amazing times.
The moveset in this game is that of the aforementioned Galaxy games, and I've used this moveset to play the game in many interesting ways. Many of the levels in this game are quite fun to play through like World 1-4, World 5-4, Special World 4-3, Special World 4-4, Special World 6-3, etc. The game has one of the best soundtracks from any mainline Mario title. Special World 8 in particular is my favorite track from this game, moreso the crown version than the normal version. This forgotten gem of a Mario game is a title that I see as a Top 5 Mario game, and potentially, one of the best games that I have ever played.

I like the "skip level" power ups, for me right now, as an adult, Ill just ignore them, but for small kids that are going to be stuck at every single level they go through, it can help them not be stuck on the first 2 worlds. As a kid I played a lot of sm64, and guess what, I never made it past the basement, cause it was too hard, later as an adult I replayed sm64, and got to play all the levels in the top floor that I had never even seen, and they were such great levels. If there was a skip level powerup on sm64, Id be able to skip the few stars I did get stuck on, and then Id see the cool levels that come after it.

    • @floofybluedragon

      A completely valid opinion-
You figure, most Nintendo platforming games (most notably Mario) that support multiplayer also have to have a lot more open space to accommodate for more players. But then again, that open space can limit creativity and is definitely noticeable when someone plays by themselves.
However, with that being said, I do believe the 3D World stages are really well designed despite that hurdle- Sometimes there can be that open space, but overall playing the game solo can still offer some tight challenges here and there.
It all wraps around to the design philosophy of multiplayer- It's much easier to create more tight and creative worlds with one player than it is for 2 to 4 people sharing a screen.
Some of the most fun I've had in 3D Land were all the bonus worlds with the limited time and the shadow Mario offering a great challenge for remixed levels. Concepts like these would be way more difficult to pull off in 3D World.

I genuinely don't get people's complaints of the super leaf, you feel patronized when it's offered to you, yet you assume kids are too dumb to feel the same. I played this game as a kid and was very bad at it, so the golden leaf was constantly offered to me, but even as a kid I was aware how that cheapened the experience so I never used it.
You know who it does help?
People who possess a disability limiting their ability to play!
It's just an accessibility thing you never have to touch so I will never get complaining about it when it likely let a lot of people actually experience this game, instead of having to give up halfway through world 5

you don't deserve to have so few subscribers, keep going like this and you'll grow really big.
Aso to quote "3D World has solved any complaint", well yes, but, to 100% you need to play every level 5 TIMES instead of 2. Still, i'm curous to know what you have to say about it (of you are ever gonna make a video on it). Keep going like this!

Since 3d world+Bowser's fury, I feel like everyone forgot about this game even more than when the original came out, even though it still is original.

Man it sucks that this game gets overshadowed, it's so cool in its own right

I remember doing a Luigi only run in NSMBwii, and I pretty much beat the game with all the spots being red
good thing it is not hard to get infinite lives, especially in some worlds

I disagree on the invencibility leaf part.
Some kids are just too bad, to the point they can't finish a level without help, that aid is good for *who wants it*, because I don't see the game forcing you to use it (making your point of the game getting boring due to the help invalid)
I think that everyone should enjoy their game even if they're not good at it,
If they're having fun let them be.

they def used some assets and code from this game and put it into 3D world such as warp boxes., even some music tracks are the same, like underground music.

The only part of this game that did NOT age well was the SPECIAL SUB-AREA MUSIC. This song was used for LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE NINTENDO COMMERCIAL FROM 2011-2016. And it didn't help that it was reused for 3D World.

L - by completing the level with Luigi
M - by completing the level with Mario
Gold flag - complete the level by landing on the top of the flagpole

It hasn’t really aged well because there’s not much reason to go back to it when there’s been better before and after it, but it’s still fine and a perfectly good pick up and play game for when the mood taked

it is the best 3DS game for me, and one of the greatest Mario games! To use the 2D Mario esthetics in a 3D game, just great!
