Hello my viewers! Having ranked the cups of Mario Kart DS and Wii now, I think it's about time I rank the track selections of Mario Kart 7 as well, especially since I am two weeks overdue the intended release date! Enjoy!

Facts
I was surprised when you put the special cup at 8th and thought "what the heck is going on in the head." But then I realized that the only reason I like the cup is for the rainbow road.

Maybe I'm too obsessed with Wuhu courses but their vacation vibes are so pleasant and cozy and I really hope they'll be in MK8. Imho MK7 is a treasure chest in aspect of great tracks so it's a real shame that BCP has so few of em.

I strongly disagree with what you said about SNES rainbow road, because the track might be a bit too difficult in the leaf cup for people who are still learning the game
I agree with the special cup ranking. After all they put DK Jungle in the banana cup in 8 and hopefully with the DLC 3DS Rainbow Road gets redeemed

flower cup holds so much nostalgia for me, especially playing rock rock mountain / alpine pass at my old home. definitely deserves its place

The nitro cups in mk7 are like phases 1-4 of the MCU:
Phase 1 - Mushroom Cup - consistently mediocre with a few highlights
Phase 2 - Flower Cup - consistently good with arguably a few low points
Phase 3 - Star Cup - Consistently great and easily the best
Phase 4 - Special Cup - Rainbow Road is basically the No Way Home equivalent while the rest is pretty forgettable
How I would fix MK7’s Special Cup:
1: I would make Rosalina’s Ice World be the first track instead of the second one.
2: I would put DK Jungle at the end of Star Cup and let Maka Wuhu be the 2nd track of the Special Cup.
Here is my ranking:
8: Mushroom Cup (None of the tracks are really that special, except for Shy Guy Bazaar)
7: Special Cup (DK Jungle is mid, and the Bowser's Castle is not the best, but Rosalina's Ice world is great. I am a sucker for winter at night aesthetics, and the music is so calming and nostalgic, I love it Rainbow Road is great too.)
6: Shell Cup (I hate how they just kinda gave all of the fan favorite retros to 7, but Luigi's Mansion carries this cup with the glow up that it got)
5: Flower Cup (I'm sorry, but this one is overrated. Still good, but that is all these tracks are. Good concepts across the board, but also meh tracks across the board. But it's also been a while since I've played 7 so it might actually be really good idk)
4: Banana Cup (The top 4 cups are all fantastic, but despite having the two most popular tracks in the entire series, I think that both of those tracks aren't even in the top 3 best tracks in their respective games. The other tracks are good, but not good enough)
3: Star Cup (Yeah this one is ruined by Neo Bowser City. Great concept, terrible track. The other three are great, but don't quite put them at #1)
2. Lightning Cup (Personally, the Rainbow Road thing doesn't bother me, as it's a good remake, and it started a trend in track selections)
1. Leaf Cup (It could only be the leaf cup. Maple Treeway being an okay remake of the second best Wii track, and Daisy Cruiser being an amazing remake of the best track in Double Dash, this is great. I'm even a fan of DK Pass. Kalamari Desert isn't as good, but it doesn't bring down the cup as a whole)

@@NinGamer64 I've honestly never rly liked tracks that are titled like Descriptor Descriptor Area, with someeee exceptions like Sweet Sweet Canyon. It just never rolls off the tongue to me very well, even as an american I prefer Alpine Pass

That's possible. I always saw it as that it was supposed to be a nod to Tall, Tall Mountain in SM64, and the real life 'Alpine Pass' in Switzerland, but that could certainly be true as well!

Weakest cup is definitely crown cup though, rainbow road is literally like best track of all time but it’s let down really badly by the other 3 like you said, worth it for rainbow road though 💛

Surprised about the Flower Cup, the only course I really care for in it is Rock Rock Mountain. Would put lightning, leaf, star, and banana before it (in that order)
I like the lightning cup especially it ending with SNES Rainbow Road, The reason being that it is starting a trend where each lightning cup in future games are from Different Games. Ex: MK7 had SNES RR, MK8 had N64 RR, and MK9 will have GBA RR
I sorta like that this is the first game where a Rainbow Road is the last track in the Nitro and Retro cup, not counting super circuit of course
The Star Cup is amazing!!! Totally #1 for me. Neo Bowser City is my favourite Track😂
Great video! Mario Kart 7 has the absolute best overall selection of retro courses in the entire series in my opinion. While the nitro courses are a bit more mixed, they are still really solid overall. Here is my ranking:
8. Mushroom Cup- This might be the worst Mushroom Cup in the entire series with the obvious exception of Super Mario Kart. Toad Circuit and Cheep Lagoon are really mediocre although to be fair Daisy Hills is decent and Shy Guy Bazaar is actually really solid.
7. Shell Cup- N64 Luigi Raceway and GBA Bowser Castle 1 are pretty mediocre but Wii Mushroom Gorge and DS Luigi's Mansion definitely make up for it.
6. Special Cup- Rosalina's Ice World and this game's Bowser's Castle are kind of mid but DK Jungle and especially Rainbow Road definitely make up for it. This game's Rainbow Road is my favorite course in the entire series!
5. Leaf Cup- DK Pass is the weakest course in this cup which is saying a lot as it's still pretty solid. The rest of the courses are great with N64 Kalimari Desert, GCN Daisy Cruiser and especially Wii Maple Treeway being some of my favorites of all time.
4. Star Cup- This is an overall very good selection of courses. I find Wario Shipyard (Wario's Galleon) to be very underrated while the more popular Piranha Plant Slide and Maka Wuhu (Wuhu Mountain Loop) are among my favorite nitro courses in the game. Neo Bowser City (Koopa City) is the weakest course in the Star Cup for me but it's still pretty decent.
3. Banana Cup- SNES Mario Circuit 2 is the weakest course in this cup but it's still pretty solid. N64 Koopa Beach is great with Wii Coconut Mall and DS Waluigi Pinball being 2 of the best courses of all time... even if this game's version of Coconut Mall isn't quite as good as the original.
2. Flower Cup- This is definitely my favorite nitro cup in the game. Wuhu Loop and especially Music Park are 2 of my favorite courses in the entire series. This game has my favorite version of Mario Circuit while Rock Rock Mountain is also very solid.
1. Lightning Cup- This is definitely one of my favorite cups in the entire series! Koopa Cape is one of my favorite courses from Mario Kart Wii and the entire series and while it's not quite as good here it's still very enjoyable. Dino Dino Jungle is a very solid Double Dash track that I especially enjoy a lot here. Airship Fortress is one of my favorite courses from the DS and the entire series and it's even better here. SNES Rainbow Road is the perfect way to end this game's Lightning Cup.

Special Cup from MK7 is bad? For real? I love the 3DS Rainbow Rode, the Bowser's Castle is not the best but also not the worst, DK Jungle is an awesome track and Rosalina's Ice World is a good track

How can our hangliders support the weight of a race car?
How can turtle shells home in on our exact location?
How can Mario and friends breath so long underwater, or even breath at all in space?
How can literal mountain goats and a race car collide and it’s the kart that gets affected?
Speaking of that, how are our cars practically invincible? Sure we get spun out, but we can get spun out forever and the kart never breaks. Hell we could even get blown up and come out fine.

I’m not angry at all lol. I just find it a bit weird how so many people dock off points from bowsers castle simply because it breaks the laws of physics, in a series where physics is almost completely disregarded.
Also when you said that MarioKart 7 star cup is overrrated, are you SURE you didn’t mean 8? I hardly ever see anyone talkign about 7’s.

When it comes to what I think, here is my own ranking:
#8 Mushroom Cup (Best to Worst: Shy Guy Bazaar/Daisy Hills/Cheep Cheep Cape/Toad Circuit)
All the tracks here are fine, they aren't anything too spectacular compared to the rest of the tracks in the game imo. Toad Circuit has a basic track design, Daisy Hills and Cheep Cheep Cape are fun but not too memorable and Shy Guy Bazaar is the best of the bunch and is the only outlier however, a lot of tracks are better than it.
#7 Shell Cup (Best to Worst: Mushroom Gorge/Luigi's Mansion/Bowser Castle 1/Luigi Raceway)
It was between this cup and the Special Cup for 7th place however, this cup lost just by 1 point in my ranking so, it's worse than the Special Cup for me. Mushroom Gorge is a classic and extremely fun course to race on. Luigi's Mansion is also great but I feel it's a tad overrated. I feel like we didn't explore much of the mansion itself and wish we spent less time outside and more time inside. Bowser Castle 1 is an improvement over the original but only due to adding a gliding ramp on the 2nd and 3rd lap as well as easier controls. Other than that, it's an ok course. Luigi Raceway is still basic as usual and doesn't have much changes to the original but at least it's a bit fun to race on.
#6 Special Cup (Best to Worst: Rainbow Road/DK Jungle/Bowser's Castle/Rosalina's Ice World)
Like I previously stated, it was very close with the Shell Cup and this one but ultimately, the Special Cup is slightly better. This cup has the greatest Rainbow Road in the entire series imo and is in my Top 5 favourite tracks of all time. DK Jungle feels nostalgic for me as I used to play DK Country Returns as a Kid and so it brings back some memories when I race on it; also it's got great music and is fun to race on. Bowser's Castle is interesting to say the least. It's a pretty forgettable course sadly as it's the most weird with underwater lava geysers, rotating platforms and even gliding through a hoop at the end. But it is still fun and has a few multiple paths too. Rosalina's Ice World is even more forgettable. On top of it's boring name, the track itself is pretty boring as you drive on ice, then breaking ice, into icy water, into an icy cave and that's about it.
#5 Leaf Cup (Best to Worst: Maple Treeway/Daisy Cruiser/DK Pass/Kalimari Desert)
From here on out, all the cups are straight up bangers. It's just that this cup is my least favourite of the rest of the bunch, simple as that really. Maple Treeway is iconic, memorable, beautiful and memorable. Daisy Cruiser is also a joy to race on and being able to drive through the pool at the beginning is a nice touch and makes the track less infuriating. DK Pass feels nostalgic as not only was it from my first Mario Kart Game, Mario Kart DS, but it reminds me of Christmas with the music, the atmosphere and the snowmen all around, truly a magical but simple track. Kalimari Desert was actually ruined in this game as while it added some gliding ramps, the train is much smaller and slower so you won't get hit by it as much or at all and a lot of the track is just drying through the desert with nothing happening. Thankfully this was fixed in MK8 Deluxe.
#4 Star Cup (Best to Worst: Wuhu Mountain Loop/Piranha Plant Pipeway/Wario's Galleon/Koopa City)
This is an overrated cup for sure. While all of the tracks are good at least, they aren't super insane compared to later tracks in later cups. Wuhu Mountain Loop feels nostalgic as if I was heading home from a day out somewhere with the beautiful scenery and sunset. The track is exciting and fun to race on. Piranha Plant Pipeway references the Underground levels which I think is unique and it's a joy to race on too. Wario's Galleon is underrated, Having us drive through a shipwreck sounds so cool and it is but, for some reason, it's just not got that wow factor even though I think it's really creative. Koopa City has great music and visuals but, I do have to agree the many sharp turns and the puddles at the end makes the track not as exciting as I thought it was. It's fine as a track and I still think it's good at best but, it's not super fun to race on.
#3 Flower Cup (Best to Worst: Wuhu Island Loop/Melody Motorway/Alpine Pass/Mario Circuit)
All of these courses are incredible but, I just prefer the later tracks on this list to these. Wuhu Island Loop is probably a bit better than Wuhu Mountain Loop as I love the shortcuts and the track is a bit more fun to race on honestly. Melody Motorway is phenomenal and super creative. Alpine Pass is underrated and has great music to listen to. And then this is the best Mario Circuit with the beautiful Cherry Blossoms, a fun track layout, a mushroom pad and we get to drive through Peach's castle. Truly a magical experience for a Mario Circuit.
#2 Banana Cup (Best to Worst: Waluigi Pinball/Coconut Mall/Koopa Troopa Beach/Mario Circuit 2)
I wanted to put this cup at Number 1 so badly but I seriously just can't. It has banger tracks with Waluigi Pinball and Coconut Mall. How both of these tracks made it to the same cup and it's not the number 1 cup in this game for me is sad, mainly it's because Mario Circuit 2 is a generic SNES course although, it does have a cool gliding ramp at the end which makes it stand out from the rest and hey, at least it adds something that fits the mechanic of the game, unlike SNES Mario Circuit 3 in MK8 Deluxe. Koopa Troopa Beach is a really great course too and while it may be simple, it's very appealing with the koopa statue, the challenging but still fun shortcut to fly through a small cave and blast through waterfalls, topping off by jumping over multiple boost pads and you got yourself a fun course.
#1 Lightning Cup (Best to Worst: Airship Fortress/Rainbow Road/Dino Dino Jungle/Koopa Cape)
This is probably my 2nd favourite Lighting Cup, right behind MK8 Deluxe's version, and it's easy to see why. All of these tracks are bangers. From the fan favourite Koopa Cape to a creative and unique Dinosaur track to the nostalgia and intensity of Airship Fortress and the first ever Rainbow Road (Which I have personal memories with) this entire cup deserves the title of my favourite cup in this game. Airship Fortress is intense, fun, challenging and references Super Mario Bros 3 which I really love. SNES Rainbow Road in this game has a lot of memories with my friendship group as we always kept playing it when we were younger and had a blast every time. Dino Dino Jungle is unique and clever. There's a lot of paths to take and even has a cute sauropod dinosaur to greet you at the start when you're by it's feet and then you drive or glide by it's head as you finish a lap. It's simple but really appealing. Koopa Cape is still a joy to race on in this game and the atmosphere and music bring a lot of joy but, I hate how the pipe section is flooded with Cheep Cheeps instead of the challenging Electrical Turbines. Other than that though, it's a great course
The lightning cups my favourite as well because of Airship Fortress, its my favourite track in the whole series. I also love Koopa Cape and Dino Dino Jungle some of the best tracks in the series to even thiugh koopa cape was ruined a bit. Id say its better than mk8 lightning cup however just by a little. I love Tick tock clock and 8s version makes it one of the best tracks ever. Ive never been the biggest piranha plant pipeway fan it feels very overrated. Grumble Volcano is also another banger, its probably one of the best WII tracks and i love it in 8. But N64 rainbow road isnt my favourite rainbow road. Its feels to easy for a rainbow road but its music and atmosphere makes it really fun still. Id say the 3ds lightning cups a little better than 8s but 8s is still amazing

I love Mario Kart 7, but I have to admit that it has a really bad Mushroom cup. Daisy hills is a great course, but Toads circuit is ok, Cheep cheep lagoon is rubbish and boring and Shy Guy bazaar is ok.

My personal ranking of all 8 cups:
8: Leaf Cup.
Holy shit all 4 of these tracks are unenjoyable. Kalimari Desert has always been a bland empty desert but at least in the original the train was somewhat of an obstacle. in this game, it has forced glider ramps and in general is empty. DK Pass is extremely janky to play, and same goes for Daisy Cruiser. Maple Treeway has possibly the world glider ramp in the game at the end. it's right after a set of item boxes, right before the finish line, has a insanely long respawn animation if you fall and nomatter what respawns you back before the glider ramp.
7: Shell Cup.
All of these tracks are just extremely plain. why did N64 Luigi Raceway even return... BC1 is the only GBA track i fully hate so im not exactly happy that it was brought back again. Luigi's Mansion's mud physics are annoying as hell and the majority of the track is in a dull swamp. even Mushroom Gorge can't save this cup
6: Banana Cup
yeah... its not much better. Waluigi Pinball is actually the weakest track here in my opinion. I never have enjoyed it in any game it's in. Coconut Mall is easily the worst version and feels like it takes place after an atom bomb hit it because good god its empty and dark as hell, and yay theres a SNES track. how the hell does a SNES TRACK manage to be one of the best tracks in a cup?!?
5: Lightning Cup
wow... really getting all of the retro cups out. Koopa Cape can barely save this cup. DDJ is terrible and I have never enjoyed it. SNES Rainbow Road is boring and the idea of having a rainbow road retro isn't that special anymore. Airship Fortress and Koopa Cape can barely save this cup from getting lower
4: Flower Cup
WARNING: major unpopular opinion coming...
Music Park is not good.
I have never understood why everyone is so head-over-heels for it. I guess it's because the theme is unique? but the only time they use that theme in gameplay is at the end plus as someone who has played a ton of music-themed video game levels, i never saw it as unique. the music that plays in it fits the track! as in it's repetative, just like the track. you do the same 180 turns over and over and it feels like you go nowhere because there is practically no change in scenery.
Wuhu Loop is decent but it's a bit flat and the car hazards add literally nothing. Rock Rock Mountain is literal hell online but it's still fun, and Mario Circuit is actually pretty good.
3: Special Cup
I want to love this cup so bad because RIW and RR are some of my favorite tracks ever, but DKJ is just bad. it has no personality and it uses stage hazards as an excuse to be interesting, which they are anything but. Bowser's Castle just feels empty and while i like the split paths, the underwater section is filler and absolutely kills the pacing
2: Star Cup
good god Neo Bowser City kills this cup. It's flat, boring, and empty. no stage hazards besides puddles. it has slippery physics for whatever reason, and has the worst use of it's theme out of any MK track. Piranha Plant Slide is decent but not mind-blowing, but Wario Shipyard and Maka Wuhu really save this cup. I've always loved shooting in and out of the water. however, for maka wuhu, it has one massive issue. the ultra-shortcut. It single-handedly makes this track unable to get first place. Maka Wuhu would be TOP TIER if it didnt have the easiest ultra shortcut in the history of MK which even saves you a full lap. I genuinely believe maka wuhu is the easiest track of all time. all you gotta do is get a shroom then you pretty much win.
1: Mushroom Cup
wow, the mushroom cup actually gets first for once. ok, yes, Toad Circuit is bad. Otherwise, it's amazing imo. Daisy Hills is a great introduction of gliding, Cheep Cheep Lagoon is the second-best underwater track in the franchise, and Shy Guy Bazaar is my favorite track in this entire game. it's a perfect introduction to the game. toad circuit is a basic track but has optional shortcuts or gliding. Daisy Hills introduces gliding sections and gets a bit more difficult, Cheep Cheep Lagoon introduces underwater and has a lot of split paths and choicemaking opportunities, and Shy Guy Bazaar is almost a test of what you've learnt from the past 3 tracks.

Smh Neo Bowser City ruins everything. I fucking hate that track for bringing down the otherwise perfect Bell Cup. Ribbon Road is my favorite track ever, Big Blue is fucking Big Blue, and Super Bell Subway is underrated as fuck, but in the end Neo Bowser City just had to ruin everything. If it wasn't for SNES Mario Circuit 3 and N64 Sherbet Land, it would be my least favorite track in the franchise.
I never really liked 3DS Bowser Castle, it dosent feel like a Castle and dosent have much enjoyable parts.
I know its your vid but Mushroom and Shell are def worse than Special imo 🙈

Actually, I'm pretty sure lava underwater isn't *that* unrealistic considering underwater volcanoes actually exist.
Also, is it just me, or do most of the retro course complaints boil down to "This minor unimportant thing was changed and completely ruined the track as a result"? Like, no offence, but it definitely felt that way. Lol

I actually hate the wuhu mountain loop. That glider section at the end is awful because you can easily get blue shelled or lightning shocked off the edge. It takes way too long and you’re way too exposed
