- With Nintendo 3DS Homebrew and modding reaching a new popularity mostly due to the Nintendo eShop closing (you can still get the games), there are many newcomers to the world of Nintendo 3DS/Wii U homebrew. One of the best mods is for Mario Kart 7 which brings many new tracks, characters, and items. It's almost like how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC is but to an even grander scale. It's the sequel to Custom Track Grand Prix Revolution for Mario Kart Wii, but how well does it hold up? What tracks are included? And most importantly, does Waluigi get a second chance?

Reminder mk7 was a rushed product for the 2011 holidays, hence why its lacking so much, but it was their last hope to bring in more 3ds sales after that horrible launch.
They should of updated it to bring back missing features like waluigi
In hindsight, I don’t know if MK7 was even needed for the holiday season or 3D Land by itself was enough, especially after the price drop. I got a 3DS and both games for Christmas 2011, so clearly something about it worked. Anyway, it would have been nice if they came back with some DLC for it, as while the online multiplayer is great, there isn’t much else to replay it for once you three-star all the cups.
Brought back coins, introduced the gliding and water sections, aswome tracks, retuning and new characters to play as, online works great. If that's what they can do with a "rushed" product,then I don't know what they are capable of without being under pressure.
@@alexanderthegreat-mx5zu No VS mode in singleplayer was the biggest flaw of the game, and often blamed on it being “rushed”, but to be honest it’s hard to tell whether that omission was really due to time constraints, because the programming for it was already there but only used in local multiplayer. It’s baffling more than anything else.
The bizarre character roster and omission of fan favorites/recurring characters feels like it was more likely to be a time constraint thing though.

This mod is wild. Nearly every issue people have with the base game is fixed.
No VS mode? Fixed
No Waluigi? Fixed
No Mission Mode? Fixed
Lame trick animations? Fixed
Drifting felt off for me, I think the speed needed to start drifting is higher than on normal MK7.
I will say the tracks in 7 were excellent. But everything else I agree.
While I'm glad that's all fixed, I still think the game controls poorly. You don't move fast even on 150cc, turning and drifting are loose and slippery, and the karts bounce around like they're made of Jell-O.

The only thing you missed was talking about the state of online, as you can play CTGP online, but also still play "regular" Mario Kart 7 while still keeping your CTGP character mods by pressing Y on the worldwide menu. No need to quit and boot up the vanilla game. It's completely independent from the base one too, as your VR is not reflected or effected.
Because of that, CTGP-7's online has a much smaller and arguably more competitive playerbase than regular MK7 itself.

@@Goomba1309 It's not only that (at least when it comes to *_Mario);_* but Mario *_*also*_* abuses Donkey Kong's father/grandfather (probably the gorilla who is known today as Cranky Kong) in _Donkey Kong Jr.,_ as well as Yoshi and his other coloured brethren in _Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, New Super Mario Bros. U_ and _New Super Luigi U_ (he locks Donkey Kong's father/grandfather in a cage and whips him in the first video game, while he sometimes makes Yoshi and his other coloured brethren fall off of cliffs/pits to their doom in the last 4 video games!) - hence why I sometimes refer to Mario as "Animal Abuser".

You know, I DID want to get this as soon as I homebrewed my 3DS for the first time... but then I realized how many blocks i needed. No way man! Still looks cool though.

Mario Kart 7, not 8, was the entry where I wished Nintendo would add DLC. It wouldn’t be a perfect solution, but it would still allow them to ship it out for the 2011 holiday season and still come back for more later.

My god, this looks *incredible.* I initally expected it to just add new tracks and nothing else, but it turns out I was _completely_ wrong. I had no idea it added achievements, new characters, and even new game-modes. I was interested before I knew about all that, but now thanks to the info from this video I'm even more interested than I was before. Gotta get a copy of Mario Kart 7 soon! 👍
It's amazing how there are active communities for games from discontinued consoles. Even so, these types of mods will completely replace modern Mario Kart games for the better good.
The fake item box got a HUGE buff with it only appearing visible when you get close. I’ve hit this version of a fake item box more times than I have ever hit one on normal Mario kart.
0:29 you just dissed most of my favorite Mario games that I hood dear to my heart and absolutely love, 3D land was my first portable 3D Mario and I loved it sm, and new super Mario bros 3DS is one of my favorites because of the coin gimmick 😭

Fun fact the Mega Mushroom was originally planned to be in Mario Kart 7, but was cut at the last minute, the data still exists for it but using that data will crash the game.
There is a single text reference “BigKinoko”. No code remains/was made.
I think the mega mushroom doesn’t really work on 8 racer Mario kart games, it definitely needs 12 racer+ games, it’s one of those frantic items that need a lot of opponents for lol
CTGP7 now has dynamic character selection, using the shoulder buttons.

I've heard some good things about CTGP-7, but I didn't know that it actually changed the gameplay a bit, and that it has a Mission Mode similar to Mario Kart DS. That's pretty interesting! I would like to try this out someday.

I just replayed Dark Moon on the 3DS..and the Switch remake gets announced. The same thing happened to me replaying Galaxy before 3D all stars was announced haha
Even though Doge and Daruude Sandstorm are both long-dead memes, the Doge Desert track manages to still be fun to play. CTGP7 as a whole is a blast, and I absolutely praise the immense amounts of effort that went into it. Of all the new features it adds, the roster is my personal favorite, but the rest of the features are still a ton of fun. Long live CTGP7!!
This was one of the very first things I downloaded after modding my 2DS earlier this week. I haven't explored it much yet, but turning on Waluigi, Funky Kong and Chain Chomp was the first thing I did. I would have turned on Birdo, but I actually like Peach. I wish Rosalina had options, and Lakitu wasn't only swappable with babies, but those are my only nitpicks so far.
Waluigi in not being playable in the official version of _Mario Kart 7_ was such a social crime!!! It's just like the Purple Yoshi, Brown Yoshi and Grey Yoshi/Gray Yoshi Yoshi alternatives in not being playable in _Mario Kart 8_ and - what is especially the case - _Mario Kart 8 Deluxe_ but much, *_much, MUCH_* worse there as he isn't even considered an alternative of another character!

Only downside to this mod is not enough ppl play it online, I couldent imagine this mod w full lobbies. This is the best true handheld Mario for online I wish it was used more, man I wish ppl still used DS/3DSs
Dogs Desert is actually from Ermii Kart DS, a meme hack for MKDS that was pretty fun from what I remember.
Anything that uses a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon song gets my approval. Unless they changed it or my memory is wrong, Concord Town remixes the Treasure Town theme from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky. Those are my favorite Pokémon games. Period. So seeing a song from it remixed here is SO good. Unfortunately don't have CTGP-7 myself, but I still remember this from someone else's modded 3DS.
I still personally think 7 is better than DS.

Imagine if you could play tracks on even more non-MK retro/inspired tracks like Space Hotel Sprint from MySims Racing DS or a track based on Just Dance (imagine driving through a high school, a non-Euclidian mansion that transforms into space, a plane, etc)
Omg I loved my sims racing DS! No one ever talks about that game! I loved all the tracks on that game 🥰 wish someone could mod that game, it’s so dead without mods

Small correction, assuming the menu themes are original only 6 of the songs used in ctgp 7 are original compositions, but lot of them might seem original because they are actually used songs from other games such as sonic, pokemon, zelda, xenoblade, and... who put through the fire and flames in here-
Is there a way you can play this on an emulator? Because that would probably be easier to set up than going through the trouble of homebrewing my 3DS.

There’s an exploit using SAFEMODE where you can get a bufferoverflow to load the hax payload
You start with having a decent capacity (micro)SD card for either console and putting in its root directory the appropriate files. The rest is covered by various online guides you can search for, covering even the latest firmware and now requiring no downloads from either actual eShop.

ctgp7 is not a sequel to ctgpr, they have different developers so ctgp7 was just inspired by ctgpr

Sorry I couldn't make premiere, ended up dozing off. lol Why do I get the feeling when you referenced Josh ranting about Mario Party: The Top 100, you had me in mind? "The fact that I can delete Peach from the roster alone puts a huge grin on my face." Lmao Peach might be on the level of Boom Boom, to be honest. If we go by Death Battle, she's capable of killing Zelda in a fight, there's no excuse why she's so useless. And I knew this was a 10/10 for Waluigi, Pac-Man, and Vs. mode alone.
As for my favorite entry, that honor goes to Mario Kart Wii. What can I say? I'm a sadist and I love the Blue Shells and Thunder Cloud. For Grump's sake, put that item back for 8 Deluxe!

Well have decent amount to say on the mod while I am only playing games on vanilla since I rather not to mess around with them I say I enjoy watch mods time to time more from minecraft to be honest but still.
As for this mod is basically give mostly mario kart 7 definitive edition, much more acceptable character roster, mission mode, more tracks despite some could be added, and improved gameplay and the option to remove specifc items, though I be homest the presentatin in a less bright light in my eyes as a whole while I don't mario kart 7 have a bad presentation isn't one I remember so fondly even other 3ds games look better in my eyes, and I say the mode did a step and a half right in improve the presentation but also a step back the tracks look pretty good but some of the character models look quite ugly with funky kong look like his elbows can be deadly cutters some still look solid but as a whole I feel the presentation is hit or miss.
I think I will rank it mid A tier is still really well done mod don't get me wrong but I think tgere are some that are better like the zombie apocalypse mods from minecraft and especially mods from sonic generations with adding more legacy levels or hedgehog may cry mod for frontiers but who knows maybe I will give it a shot to this mario kart mod if I care enough

"Too easy". Man really did not try the impossible course pack in coin rush mode lol and the point of the game is to collect coins mostly, not to be hard... the biggest challenge really stays getting those 1 000 000 and then the 9 999 999 coins

paper jam was good because most mario enemies didn't have a appearance until that point. that together with the minigames that are very fun to play that game doesn't deserve the "its a bland mario game" treatment
yeah sure its dissapointing that the unique Paper Mario characters didn't make an appearance but it makes the world feel more consistent
it also added the block mechanic which is a good non-handholding way of learning enemy patterns

There is a downside to installing this mod. You will not be able to use DarkFlare’s MK7 plugin for standard Mario Kart 7 if you install CTGP-7.
