    For me its the throwback grindhouse nature of the movie that worked for me. It is pure nastiness never pretending to be anything else. No elaborate back story, silly quips or teleportation just a mean spirited killer clown that revels in his work. I fear that too much expostion could take the creep/fear factor away, I like Art just how he is. Looking forward to T2 but I have to say 2 1/2 hours seems an awfully long running time for a slasher.

      Terrifier 2 had way more exposition and was way more story driven, almost twice as long as the first AND blew the first one out of the water. Feels like such a more fleshed out film than the first. Fantastic modern horror flick.

    I am in agreement more or less with everything you said. I also think that Art has a lot of potential. And I'm hoping that when they made this film they didn't quite understand what they had. And now after its success in the horror community they will truly give us a good horror flick. But if it just more of the same. I'll be disappointed

    This movie works for me for more than the carnage. It’s many things. Theres the fear of that carnage that Art is capable of! The concept that anything he does to you will be horrific is so effective. Another is a thing i know divides viewers but the pacing and progression of the film really does work for me. I like that this slasher is more like an ensemble rather than a group of friends, the body count is high and the story finds ways to bring victims to Art through social and career relationships. It’s almost like a cursed night of “wrong place wrong time” and that adds to the scariness of Terrifier, this could be you, it’s that easy to randomly bump into this killer. You aren’t going to a summer camp, you aren’t having a dream, you’re just going to pick up your sister, you’re just responding to the contractor you hired, anyway you get the picture. Even without projecting yourself i just really like when a slasher doesnt give it’s characters body armor. It’s so obvious Tara is supposed to be the final girl but the story is so unpredictable and breakneck that it gives you a fake out final girl, i love that even if Victoria isnt as likable. This doesn’t really say to me that the antagonist is unbeatable, it tells me not to expect anything, i still appreciate this on rewatches. All that’s missing out of modern horror is chase scenes, Halloween 18 didnt have any, Scream 5 didnt have any, so i just go to terrifier if im in the mood to watch people hide and run from a slasher for 90 minutes but yeah, those are my thoughts, i like this channel and the marinated opinion you offered, sometimes films are meant to be watched without all the hype and on their own. But i just disagree with chalking up the idea that fans of Terrifier only like it for gore or kill sequences. I think Terrifier offered a lot more to me. I do think it runs a little long, so i really am curious to see how this 2 hr and 30 minute Terrifier 2 will feel, my poor ass in that theater seat.

      @@jessb5657 Movies like Saw show gratuitous violence but they have a plot. Fans of Terrifier aren't interested in that. Movies like Saw don't have a silent killer that the audience can imprint their own motivations onto. A killer that targets and sexually mutilates female victims, like carving one in half from the crotch down while the victim is spread-eagled, upside down and naked with the camera taking a moment to capture her breasts jiggling as she's being murdered, or carving the breasts off of a living woman and the killer dancing around wearing them to taunt the sister of one of his victims.
      More men are killed in Terrifier but their deaths are incidental, almost ornamental, and never as degrading as their female counterparts. Their deaths could even be interpreted as a message to 'not get involved' while the female victims are explicitly targeted and hunted.
      Terrifier is a throw back to the old '80's slasher films about hunting 'slutty' teenage babysitters and camp counsellors. It's appeal is nostalgia and violence against women. Terrifier even went a step further in the misogyny department by removing the 'final girl' as a moral lesson. Rather than be rewarded for her purity, morals and ingenuity, Tara is unceremoniously shot in the face for fighting back, and her sister Victoria is literally whipped with a bladed lash, and then brutally disfigured and becomes a killer herself with only vain implications as to why. No redemptive survivor story for either of them. But the killer gets revived to kill again. He is rewarded.
      Gore is gore. A mean-spirited murderer is a mean-spirited murder. Both can contribute to a decent horror movie.
      Terrifier is just porn for incels.

    I enjoy terrifier but there are a lot of flaws, I like the brutality it shows butthere's a certain point you gotta stop before it starts turning to torture porn, for example that scene with the girl getting split in half, I get the point of the scene where Art is basically torturing the protagonist by making her watch her friend get split in half, but I believe the line of torture porn is split between useful violence and not useful violance, for example: by the time Art splits the girl down to her stomach she was already dead, they should've stopped at that point where she was dead but they kept going all the way basically just chopping a dead body in half and by the time it happens you stopped caring about that scene and just want it to end making you feel uncomfortable, I believe when it comes to kills the necessary and unnecessary violance is a key factor.

    What separates terrifier from torture p*rn is in how much the camera keeps cutting between a brutal kill scene and art’s expressions of pure sadistic joy.
    Art is somehow one of the most charismatic killers while being hands down the most sadistic, and that gives his kill scenes more of a surreal vibe rather than the visceral disgust we get from torture p*rn.

    I fall in line of liking the film just because of Art the Clown. With people jumping on this character as the next biggest horror icon, I don’t see it yet. He doesn’t have the great one liners like Freddy, or the silent performances of Michael. He for sure has enough character to drive the film, but it shows potential. I feel like he potentially needs hints at a backstory for us to fall on his side. We don’t need a full explanation, but just enough to get the audiences asking questions and being intrigued. I walked away from the film thinking it was a good cheap horror film, but beyond that I was never left thinking about him or trying to explain it.

    To be honest, as much as I love Art the Clown, I just don't like the first Terrifier that much. I agree that the main problem with the movie is that there's just no story. The "plot" is pretty much just Art running around and killing random people. And the scene where he cuts Dawn in half from her crotch to her face just goes way too far for me, that legit grossed me out. I can handle gore pretty well for the most part, but scenes where people's penises or vaginas get obliterated just goes way too far for me, it's pretty tasteless. In my opinion, the only thing worthwhile about this movie is Art, he's truly a one of a kind character.

    I personally love the Terrifier films and All Hallows’ Eve, and I also completely understand and respect the people for whom the Art the Clown films are not their favorites or are simply not for them at all. These movies definitely raise the bar in terms of how much gore to expect from a slasher film series.

    I have one of those weapons Art uses, it looks like a mini-hatchet with a hammer on one side. It was used to open wooden crates back in the day, and they’re not too common. My grandma’s uncle gave me the one I have. It’s called a “Clark’s Bar”. I use mine as a mini crowbar/hammer tool in my toolbox.

    I watched this on a whim because at the time it was on Netflix, I do believe. I had a GREAT time with this. Sometimes I need to revisit that time where you watched the horror movies for the gore, the kills, the stupid convenient plot decisions. Basically the 80s and this movie gave me all of that. I get how even people who grew up with that would want more and I will admit I was frustrated we didnt know MORE about Art, but I do enjoy this movie. However, I will agree that I haven't ever revisited this more than maybe 3 times. That being said, somehow still Terrifier 2 is HIGh on my list of most anticipated.

    To me, it's not the gore that attracted me to the movie. It's the pizza place. Yes I am one of those people saying he is the next icon because of the brutality of Art, but most because at no point do you know what he is thinking, and that is very eery, especially in that pizza place scene. I do agree that I need more of a motive, but for a first movie I don't need much motive. If they continue with the franchise, I need more of the back story throughout the movies, but for the first movie, it's totally fine to not have a motive or back story

    Ik know I'm very late to this but I only watched the first terrifier film last night and am busy with the 2nd. I think why the first film is such a gorefest is to establish Art's credibility as a slasher villain. Art is following Jason, Michael, Freddy, Chuck, Leatherface, etc. So you're seeing this new character and you think, "alright, he looks cool but how does he compare to the others?" and this film showcases exactly why he should be seen as on par or even more dangerous than the others. I think they knew a second film would be made and thus felt comfortable with the ambiguous route they took with the first and that ending did leave me curious to know more about the character.

I just need to see more before I give him that much credit but the potential is there.

He does have potential like you say, but it all feels a bit too on the nose at times. And I've never found clowns that scary lol, for the same reason they didn't use a clown mask in Halloween and instead went with something so blank and featureless, it was terrifying.

    Honestly about the end when he blew his head off I thought it was some kind of magic trick just to make it look like he blew his head off.
    You know, like Hannibal Lecter when he covered his face with cut off flesh from his victim to escape prison. Would have been a cool theory, but with the blinking lights it might show that its more than that.

  • @FerusZaz

    I'm definitely in the middle of the road camp with you on this one. I get what it was going for, and it did it, but it was far too gratuitous and devoid of story for me to enjoy more. The bisection scene was completely offputting too.. at least it had a point in Bone Tomahawk (great movie), this was just glorified torture porn. I will say I think Art has potential though. Guess we'll see what the sequel has to offer.

    • @MatsuriShan
      @MatsuriShan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @FerusZaz
      @FerusZaz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MatsuriShan Haha! Yes, it was completely impractical. To me, it was just a show-off of practical effects and didn't feel.. I don't know, fun I guess? At all. Which in a movie like this, I think entertaining would have worked better than gritty and grisly. Sort of clashing styles. Like it was grisly as hell in Bone Tomahawk, but that served a purpose and fit.

  • @pyrox2518
    @pyrox2518 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Never heard of this movie (maybe i live under a rock)
    But I really liked it. The fact that it had no lame ass jump scares as any other horror movie out there. And instead build up this twisted atmosphere what was really creepy, Was a real plus to me.
    Acting on some characters were a bit unfortunate like the rat guy. But the clown was very cool, except the fact that he didn't had much dept to his character, like even explaining why he was the way he was or haven't had even a single voice line in the whole movie was a bit disappointing.
    Felt that he was just evil for the sake of being evil.
    But besides that I'd still give this movie an 7,5 because it's was really well done for a horror movie.

    I pretty much felt that way with this film. It's really just a showcase reel of special fx and gore with a catchy looking killer. It is also visually gritty and dark... but there's nothing else to it. It doesn't have any foundation of lore, nevermind an actual story. Art the Clown is ALL looks, nothing else. Of course i was branded "not a real horror fan" by the simp gorehounds that define horror by the amount of karo syrup used.
    Terrifier 2 being two and half hours i hope actually puts an actual foundation down for this guy and this IP.

    I pretty much agree with you 100%, though I am a little higher on it than you are, I definitely see where you’re coming from…yeah, this movie is a tough watch. I’m a huge slasher fan, but this movie isn’t “fun” like most slashers are. I’m never gonna be like “you know what I’m in the mood for? Terrifier”. It just feels too real, if you know what I mean. The vibes are bad. I feel similar to Rob Zombie’s Halloween, i just don’t enjoy the experience of watching it. It feels too realistic. When I’m watching a horrror movie, there’s a different between a “kill” and a “murder”. Kills are fun. Seeing Jason twist a dude’s head around and cut someone in half with a machete…that’s a kill. It’s badass and it’s fun to watch. A MURDER…is different. Watching a “murder” on screen takes on a different tone, a different vibe…it feels uncomfortable, it gives you a pit in your stomach. It feels almost…snuff-ish, if you know what I mean. Rob Zombie’s Halloween has “murders” in the first half…second half are “kills”. That’s the difference. Terrifier is all “murder”, no kills. The entire movie is so uncomfortable to watch that (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) I honestly wish there was an MPAA cut version of it. I don’t wanna watch these people being murdered in these horrible ways, it’s too much. I think the movie would be a much more enjoyable experience if it left a lot of what was happening to the imagination. We don’t need to see everything. Just my two cents. It’a a good movie, it’s just too much.

    I LOVE Terrifer and i'm a huge Art the Clown Fan.... for me, what makes it special, is that Art really, really doesn't give a f*ck. He is completely mental. Everybody will get it, even children. So he has a level of madness and unpredictability that I find very refreshing. The fact the is supernatural, or not, really doesn't matter. I think that's the point, they just throw anything at the wall and reference retro horror.
