Just found your video 3 weeks ago. I followed all your steps and wow my target panic is gone.everyone needs to watch this video and follow your steps to cure target panic with a index finger release. Yes you can get target panic with a thumb release also. Great 👍 video. Im a subscriber now.
Hey George thanks for the comment and the sub! It’s great to hear that you are now cured of target panic, it is a great feeling and makes a world of difference.
It is so much easier said than done! I have continued on my journey since this video and am in an even better spot now than I was then even. That’s what makes it fun! Thanks for the comment!
Thank you! I had the problem you had. It felt like a physical force, preventing me from putting the pin over the Gold, like someone actually pushing the bow away. This started when I started to get pretty good and competitive. A very experienced Archer told me this: To see if it's target-panic, try aiming without an arrow on the bow. GUESS WHAT??? I could aim the bow like an Olympic Champion !!!! I could literally hold the pin dead centre, for as long as I like. Rock solid. My hobbies have changed now, and I only shoot an old recurve for fun, in my garden. It's a damn good test to see if you have the dreaded panic though.
I've been dealing with target panic for around a year and I have it like you did where you cant pick up your bow under the target, I'm going to try this for the next week hopefully it improves
Well said great video. I am 55 now I used to shoot competitively when I was 12-15 yrs old and I ended up getting target panic and flinching like crazy lol I would come down onto the xring and shoot right as I got over it and would Just keep moving
Good morning l have a question for you l hold my bow in the left hand so if l shoot my bow jumps left my left arm is slightly bent should it be straight. I would like your help thanks
slightly bent is ok - that torque could have alot to do with your wrist and if it is locked to hard into place or if you hold it true after the shot. when you draw, record yourself and take a look at the wrist...if it is not straight and you are allowing it to bend to the left, this could be a cause
One thing I did not hear you have to see your arrow hit the target before you move your head let the bow fall a lot is frome wanting to look before you realize.
@@TomOnTheRun one thing is never never move the trigger finger. And practice at like 10 feet and not worry ANY about aiming. Some take the sight off and or close your eyes. You have got to get the feel first. You HAVE to let your brain learn what the right feel is. Do this for several hundred shots. Do not give in to trying to hit a mark. Eventually you will learn to aim by looking at the mark, NOT THE PIN, and focusing 100% on the mark. Burn a hole in the target with your eyes and start pulling until it fires.
You will sometime revert back to old habits. I know there were certain things that would trigger me also, even after I thought I had it beat. There were likely little things that you were doing that started to slowly revert. It’s best to regularly be doing drills to prevent it until you have got rid of it completely. It took time to build the target panic and it will take time to eliminate it. Good luck!
If you have your finger wrapped over the trigger and deep in the first knuckle, it doesn’t take much to get it to break. It is more a pressure thing than it is movement thing. If you struggle with torquing the bow using that method then use it more as a drill to help calm the target panic. Hope that helps!
You have got to have the release set correctly up short so the finger hooks over the trigger. Those damn pathetically designed barrel type releases will not shorten enough unless you are a true giant. Don’t buy a release that has no adjustment for tension. The amount of force needed to move the trigger needs to have enough resistance so it won’t fire as soon as you settle your finger over the trigger. This tension will help you train to use your back muscles ONLY to pull. If your release has trigger travel set it very short. Some, after correctly learning to pull right, will set no travel- just tension. I have a micro set travel like 1/16th” for when wearing lightweight gloves in cold weather.
I must be weird to not feel any of this...I do my mental checklist just like I would if I was shooting a steel target at 800yards with my bolt gun. Great video though for those people that have this issue.
I don’t pull the trigger when I shoot a rifle I squeeze That’s how you get a surprise shot out of the rifle You squeeze never pull Same thing with the trigger on a release
the 100lb bow with the pin under the target is spot on for me!!
It’s awful, but using this I no longer experience it!

Buddy this is one of the best explanations I have seen.
Glad it helped! Thanks for the comment!
Very accurate explanation. That was me. Accepting the movement, relaxing my mind and pull through with my arm. With finger resting on trigger

That’s for sure! Thanks for the comment!
We did a target panic video as well for traditional shooters. Really enjoyed you guys video…solid and accurate information. You gained a subscriber!
Thank you we will check yours out also!
Great job, because I was thinking of switching to a thumb release, but I'll give your system a try for sure.
Thanks for the comment, let us know how you do! I think a thumb release will result in the same problem!

Got lucky and used to it but it was the wrong way by far.
Definitely feel your pain there! It’s I a long road to breaking that habit too! Thanks for the comment!
I bought the true fire exert and i can set the trigger to 3 1/3 pounds and that helped me to learn to pull through
That’s perfect! Thanks for sharing!
This is just the video I needed. Thank you!
Glad it helped. Good luck, and I have an idea for a follow up for transitioning to animals 😉 so make sure to subscribe

My struggle what getting the bow up on the target to begin with. You should also try to hold that bow through impact.
What wrist release are you using to adjust your trigger sensitivity?
It’s a trufire although many brands offer the same adjustment. www.cabelas.com/shop/en/tru-fire-edge-buckle-foldback-bow-release
@@WeekendWoodsmen Thanks! I ordered one. When it comes in I begin this journey. Thanks for sharing.
@@TomOnTheRun good luck!

@@timbow50 Can't thank you enough. I've really have struggled with consistency.
I watched this video last year and thought I fixed it. Now I'm doing the same shit. What a pain

Thank u much needed
It’s tough but you can work through it. Unfortunately with a trigger release you have to always be working it! Thanks for the comment!
I don't understand pull through until the shot breaks.... aren't you just at that point over extending your draw length

And that’s a great way to avoid target panic! Good stuff!
