    Joel Turner is the man. I had the pleasure to train with him at Lancaster archery 2 weeks ago. If you follow his teaching and use the blue print to your shot every time with out deviation, target panic and shot anticipation will not rule you. Shoot the shot the right way No Matter What, everytime

    Big fan of Joel and enjoyed the lessons on Wise Guy. I come from training on precision rifle trigger work, and use Tough Guy. Joels mental process training has been great for me on ShotIQ. I wondered specifically about his teaching after the video showing Dan's disdain for the release. Thanks to all of you.

    Today I learned I have the hands of a woman lol. I have the Wise Guy as well, shortened the post all the way and I can only barely get my finger to touch my thumb. Great technique to test finger pulling though. I just lock my finger into a hook and use back tension from there

  • @drivenbyarchery8676
    @drivenbyarchery8676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Im still u decided on this whole thing about let the bow move and just keep pulling. Itll always go back to the middle(no it wont). Im 52 been shooting a bow since i was 15. Heres where im at with it. Yes!!! I practice all the time shooting a hinge - thumb with back tension to keep my form in check as well as a good follow through, however, the accuracy severely increases with my index release. Along with that i want my bow to fire , when i want it to fire. Not saying a surprise release is wrong, just saying its not the only way. You can be a command shooter and still control the trigger, if your form and follow through are correct. Its all about your shot process. If you create a shot process and follow it every time you pull your bow back rather its a target or and animal you can be a bad ass bow shooting genus. Lol. Good video keep em coming.

    • @ep3389
      @ep3389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hate to be the one to tell you this, but you have a form of target panic. If you have to think about aiming to get it to center that's target panic. It should be done subconsciously.

    • @drivenbyarchery8676
      @drivenbyarchery8676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ep3389 dont hate to tell me, i dont mind at all hearing others opinion. My response is that everyone thats hitting what they aim at has some form of target panic, otherwise wed all be 100% positive that we would never miss. its only natural. If you weren’t suppose to be physically aiming then why are we (me) buying all these high dollar sites that have 15k adjustments and 3rd axis and on and on. The reason why is because we want to be able to put the pin (key word pin) on a certain spot and hit it every time. That is physically impossible without looking at it. I put my pin in the middle, pull with my back till my pin slows, trust my shot process a and slowly squeeze the trigger till it fires. Thats what wrks for me. Archery is all about being repeatable. Thats all that matters. Do the same thing every time and move you pins, rest, d-loop, peep on and on till your bow shoots the best it can shoot for you. Thats all my opinion nothing else.

    • @ep3389
      @ep3389 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@drivenbyarchery8676 because you do aim initially then you should be able to stop thinking about it and let the pin float and not worry about it. Where does your pin float too if you physically stop thinking about where it is? If i get the pin on center it will stay there as long as i dont obsess over it, and just look at the site picture as a whole with the pin a part of that picture instead of trying to force the pin into a certain spot while trying to fire at the exact right time. I shot like you for years and target panic eventually took over my shot. Took a long time but I finally figured out how to use back tension with my thumb release and get a suprise shot. I still have control over every split second of that shot and have 0 anxiety when it comes to it. There's a reason 99 percent of professional target shooters use suprise releases

    • @drivenbyarchery8676
      @drivenbyarchery8676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ep3389 yeah i get the concept. I practice all the time with a thumb and hinge (not pushing the button or rotating the hinge) just straight back tension. And can shoot great like that out to 50 yards. Its further distance that my group spreads out. Just fyi i dont focus on my pin only. I focus on the spot i want my pin and let it float there. Im blind lol. Cant actually see my pin super clear. Tried a verifier and it made my pin clear and target fuzzy. All im saying is i get better groups with an index trigger. If i got better groups with back tension id shoot that. Back tension does help with form for me. Guess it should be said im shooting 80-100 yards in the wind on average. Hunting and target. Im in great falls montana where its always windy. Lol. Speaking of pros, almost every pro will say in windy condition if you cant command the shot, your going you will drop some points. Although i will say Chris B and John Dudley both shoot back tension in all situations. But their just magicians with a bow. Iv tried for 3 years to master Chris Bs form and shot and I’m only good at it at close range 50 and in. Some days out to 70 but not consistent enough to try it on any game.

      I'm 52 to, started bowhuntimg at 7,killed my first elk at 11. I've stot instinctively for 10 fifteen years with fingers, tab for 5 years or so, index release up to now, real light and always snap shot, 4 to 5 inch group at 80. When an elk is walking through the brush you have maybe 1 second to get a good shot! I've killed close to 60 elk in multiple states, multiple Boone and crocket bulls. So, I suppose I am not doing it right? Does it matter? No, absolutely not! I ca shoot as good as any man out there. Lots of practice, me, since I was 3. You all are over complicating this way too much. Just hunt, enjoy lots of elk meat, and go farther than everyone else!

    • @gettothepointarchery7932
      @gettothepointarchery7932 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mimic my style based on cams, I found specifically with the wise guy if you put your thumb behind your neck, I'm extremely accurate or in the ballpark of cam. I just find it really curious that no one teaches that style.

    • @warren3665
      @warren3665 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason no one teaches it is because it’s old school way of shooting. I started shooting with a trigger release in the late 90’s, it was basically the only option. I think Cam, along with myself, have learned a specific way and it’s hard to change. There’s no way I could shoot a back tension release, lots of hunting situations require punching a trigger also.
