I think you're right that Pikmin 4 was designed with the idea that it very well could be the last game in the series. Due to the fact it's never been a big seller and even more importantly, Miyamoto isn't working on games anymore - besides Pikmin - and he's getting older. BUT! It seems like Pikmin 4 is selling quite well based on the numbers we've seen, so I think Pikmin 5 will happen because Pikmin is finally finding its audience. Well deserved.
Plus having all the 3 other games on switch is really good for people to experience it and get into it as well or play after the 4th one

you could definitely see it as the final Pikmin game, but you could also see it in a different way like more of a big start up, because the Pikmin fandom is substantially growing with more and more people liking the game everyday, I think its more of a beginning for the series to actually start growing
i think its more of an end to classic era pikmin and a begining of the mainstream one. gone are the days of line-up trumpeting behind sleeping bulborbs, painfully unforgiving caves, day limits, and doing challenge modes seperate from main game.
@@michaelcasiano9497 I 100% agree! Its like they took all the new and all the old and put it together to say goodbye to the old features and welcome new players and new features so its a goodbye and a welcome in a way, not to mention the logo change also representing Pikmin's new era

For me pikmin 4 fits between 2 and 3 in term of timeline, for example, it's stated that koppai is close to food crisis, it's not in food crisis yet, i dont think it's olimar first crash, because he had pikmin so early that we didn't even need to get them in the side story, that means that he probably already knew about them.
In the side story, we started after he first got pikmin. The whole game is a reboot. The data logs explain that

@@hunterclark9531 Pikmin 4 is an alternate timeline. It takes place after the bad ending of Pikmin 1 and it's the prequel to Pikmin 3.
I think Pikmin 4 takes place after 1, not 2.
but when olimar finds new pikmin types, he seems pretty interested into what they do instead of already knowing, such as "hmm, yellow pikmin, i wonder if they have any differences?"
The notion that this is the last game is crazy to me. Olimar literally teases a Pikmin 5 at the end of the game and it’s selling like crazy. I don’t think it’s happening right away, it could be in the backburn years of Nintendo’s next console but it is getting a Pikmin 5.

This guy has some pretty weak points don't worry about it.
Just thought I’d point this out. According to pikmin 4’s Wikipedia entry, the plot diverges is from the events of Pikmin 3. So technically speaking, it is still Canon, they just don’t mention it a lot.
If there ever is a Pikmin 5 I wish they could make it into a sort of open world 3D Metroidvania. Intstead of having separate levels it's all one giant map, but certain parts of it are blocked off until you unlock certain Pikmin or unlock certain items or whatever. There could be save spots where you could call the Onion to, just like in 4, but have many more spots to call it to, since the map would be so much bigger.
The open world could also tie into the story. Suppose Olimar and Co have purposefully touched down on a new planet because they want to colonize it for Hocotate, but they are in competition to control the planet and its resources with a new alien faction who wants to do the same. Said new faction could also bring back Dandori battles because they would also be controlling their own Pikmin.

Nah, they wouldn’t have changed the gameplay so much to cater to new players just to abandon the series. The references are kinda just there to satisfy old fans.
To me it feels like parts of the game were straight up neutered solely because they didn’t want new players to find it “too difficult”
They neutered the caves, Pikmin sprouts are everywhere, enemies don’t respawn, instant lock on, Collin and Shepherd will tell you every single thing you need to know constantly, not to mention other optional stuff like rewinding time and Oatchi’s nose.
That on top of an overall easy difficulty from Pikmin 3. They only throw actually difficult stuff at you RIGHT at the end. It’s one of my biggest complaints with the game.
Miyamoto has said he wants the series to sell better and has outright confirmed he’s trying to appeal to new players by making the game easier.

I feel like pikmin 4 was actually supposed to be a lot earlier but because the Wii U flopped they had to scrap it and so that's why the pikmin 3 ending is not related
I honestly hope not, pikmin 4 doesn't feel exactly like a smash bros ultimate, but actually imo, it feels like the start of a new era of pikmin altogether, i really, really hope we get more games in the franchise to see the ideas like the night expeditions be expanded on for example!

I enjoyed Pikmin 4 quite a lot, a very round package and take on the Pikmin concept.
That being said, I have to say that some changes are taking the franchise into uncharted territory, and you could be ironically right that this could be the very last *traditional* Pikmin game, if Nintendo isn't too careful and ends up changing even more the traditional formula in 5.
Hopefully they won't, as re-releasing the first two games on the Switch means that new players can easily experience all the games and how each one differs in gameplay and controls, so they can compare and get a notion on what Pikmin means.

I totally agree. The lock on is kinda annoying at times but sometimes when in a hurry, it could be quite useful. I wish they made it like the Pikmin 3 DX lock on instead
Hmm... well, before anything else, I respect your opinion and theory, I watch the whole video and can understand your points, but now, let me tell you why I don't think this is the case.
Getting the obvious out of the way first, as you said, olimar did say in the end "until my next adventure", with can very well been seem as a hint of a new game.
Just because it's a reboot, it doesn't mean much, new stories can still be create after a story reset after all.
Yes, the game improved (imo) in almost every aspect of the other games, showing the love and care the dev team put behind this, but even a huge step up like this doesn't mean things can't improve. In fact, this point is kinda weird for me, as I don't understand why the dev team wouldn't want to put a huge amount of effort in the game even if it was confirmed a pikmin 5 game even before pikmin 4 launched.
Finally, you said this is like smash ultimate for the pikmin series, this is a interest thing to think, as a lot of people theorize that ultimate is meant to be the "last" smash game, finishing the series all together, however, Sakurai itself said in one of his own videos that smash is a important series for nintendo, saying that "it's very likely there will be another one", the same can be apply to pikmin, even if it's not in the same heigth as smash, pikmin is still a important series.
In all honest, I fully DOUBT pikmin is a series that will end as long as nintendo exists, even if takes another 10 years, I believe we will get another game, and even more in the future
It’s possible it was designed to be a send off just in case the game didn’t sell well not only would it be a great send off but the game is incredibly well designed

@@FernandoUrista actually, Pikmin 3 ended with the narrator saying that they fixed the issues on Koppai, the last part where it says "perhaps it wasn't an accident at all" isn't really a cliffhanger. But the ending of Pikmin 4 litterally states "next time"
