Porsche 911 992 Carrera T with Tuning, Lowering and Aerokit

- The new Porsche Carrera T is the most fun for the money 911 there is. What if you Tune it with an ECU flash, lower it, add the Aerokit and upgrade the exhaust.

When I was growing up in the 80s and 90s all the 911s I fantasized about had giant wings on them so I personally love it.
I have a base 992 Carrera and I'm very happy with it! Enough power for me, small turbos without any lag, it's a real fun car to drive!👍
😂😂😂
This is such a beautiful car and nicely modified. Exactly how I’d spec it….well I’d add buckets. Nice seeing you back in a proper 911.
And thanks for the mention papa !!!
Thank you !
@@Crayon_992T want to do a colab video with me? Modified 991.2 T versus 992??
Absolutely, let’s set it up
The wing breaks the smooth silhouette of the 911, so no thank you !
Thank you Nick, for another excellent video, as usual 😊
"I like the smooth rear end" ... Me too Nick. Me too.
OMG that's literally my dream Carrera T, chalk, aero kit, manual, only needs buckets!
$9000 for an exhaust system is outrageous. Is it diamond encrusted, solid gold plated with platinum ? What on Earth would make it so expensive ??
Welcome to the world of Porsche . This is also including the sport cats as well
Iconel and titanium might get u there...but stainless? Def some inflation happening as this platforms gains popularity
That’s how it goes, my titanium exhaust and catted down pipe for my rs3 cost $6000 together.
@@padbender2972an Inconel exhaust on a 911 would be amazing. I’m frankly surprised it’s never been made a factory option for the GT3.
$600 Fister exhaust (Gundo done w proper, long-lasting welds) on 996 911.
No way on earth it doesn't void your warranty. Love the Carrera T, best value for money 911
I fully agree that the instant you flash your ECU with any sort of tuning software, your warranty is out the door! And apparently, removing the tune for warranty work leaves traces that any Porsche dealer can detect.
Pretty much every modification does. Mounting different tires voids the warranty. I had a few Porsche and they’re savage when it comes to mods… 🫣
Ya was surprised he said that. Though to be clear, it only voids warranty for issues potentially related to the mod (e.g., infotainment would be uneffected).
Porsche has an agreement with the tuning he is mentioning, M-Tuning😊 ECU Flasher. Porsche has stated that it does not void warranty, I called my Porsche Dealer and the tuning company and they both mentioned that there was no voiding of warranty
To me, this car is the point of a Porsche. We all have the ability to get exactly what we each individually prefer (if you can get an allocation at all). It’s not the car I built but if Rich loves it, then perfect! As Nick said, I certainly respect it and I love that so many options are available. It’s a cool car that seems to have been thoughtfully specked and is tasteful. I see plenty of 911’s that people ruin, in my opinion, because of the configurator. This is not one of those. Good for you Rich - congratulations!
Really appreciate it dude
Meant EVERY word. Drive the wheels off it!
Happy New year Nick ❤ Another great video, interesting spec T, personally I'm more of a stripped back basic spec for that model. Great thing with the 911 is Porsche allow us to do what we want and please most cutomers (dreamers in my case) 😂
It’s a shame that so many don’t care unless it’s a GT or Turbo.
The base cars with manual are still a blast to drive.
Would love a video updating us on the 992.2 and when we should expect it (timeframe, upgrades, etc.).
Always a treat to get another Nick upload.
Awesome content as always, Nick. Happy New Year Bringer of War!
Really enjoy your content, long live the manuals! Also Gustav Holtz Mars was a great choice for background music!
Amazing weather you have there Nick, great for filming an excellent Carrera T. I like all the options but like you the wing at the back is too much for me, but I understand the look.
I love how it looks.
Really great spec, the T is such a great 911. Instant class, especially as Porsche is moving toward the 992.2 hybrid model of the 911. These T's will be super sought after amongst Porsche collectors for a very long time. Great vid.
I think that car looks really good. Thumbs up. I just got a 2024 manual Cayman S. The only option is the color- chalk. No frills at all and it's wonderful.
👍👍 Manual 718 S in 19 are pretty rare.
I configured cayman style in red. 😍
Great video. A T with a tune is really a special car!!
Great to see you Nick, all the best for 2024 🎉👍
Great job Nick...
Nick Murray: Bringer of Porsches.
Love your content Nick!
“Like you would in your Ford Escort!” Thanks for the laugh 😂😂
I love the metal sunroof. It keeps the awesome profile of the 911 with the consistent colour, allows you to angle open it for air and even wide open it at night on a slow drive to get the noise and stars. I understand it’s also a lot lighter than the glass roof.
Love the colour. I'll take the lowering and the tune but leave the ironing board at home.
I love the Carerra T, though I have a 992.2 GTS on order 🙂Nice video Nick !
Looks amazing. I can give or take the spoiler, but lowered it looks gangsta 😎
Never been a fan of a wing but they look so good on a 911. I love the simple interior too…4 way seats, non leather dash, having to manually adjust the steering column.
Perfect! Nailed it!
Nice video but you‘re exaggerating a bit. The engines are the same, but the Turbos differ between base/T and S/GTS 992 variants. A Carrera (T) with softeare is ~480 PS while an S/GTS will go to ~510 PS. Which only barely gets into 992 Turbo territory.
I know it feels fast af because the torque curve ramps up much more aggressively compared to a stock car
@@NickMurray That would be news to me 😅
I was just about to say this as I thought I read it somewhere on Rennlist. Base/T have smaller turbos while S/GTS share the same turbos albeit GTS runs a higher psi from factory. Flat6 Motorsports also confirms this.
The engines and especially the turbos are not identical between the T and the GTS either. Nick going a little dumb dumb in his old age.
@@SomeGuysGaragelet him make
a mistake geez.
Sure he knows the turbos are smaller in the standard Carrera or T.
Always enjoy your videos - thank you for taking the time to make them for us.
You wave your right hand in front of the front camera making it constantly zoom in and out putting you in and out of focus as you speak. And once the GoPro camera is in your hand - you move it all too quick. I watch your videos on a big screen and I go dizzy 😵💫 Please, slow down))
Thank you! 🙌
Thank you good and thoughtful review
That wing is a total must, and the reason I’d get a GTS with the lightweight package and that wing over a gt3. Absolutely stunning, and reminds me of the body color wing that came with the 991.1 gt3
I love it, the Carrera T manual is my favorite car in the line-up.
I'd have to get the Aerokit because I absolutely hate how the stock wing looks when its up.
You can't see it when it's up from the drivers seat. Problem solved.
Finally, a Carrera T that is faster than a CyberTruck :)
Lmfaooooo
Mate has to be the duck tail, no question.
I like the T, I like personalisation of the springs, but the aero kit just doesn't work for me and I agree the tune seems like the wrong thing to do to a T. But you have to respect the owner for making it their own 👍🏼
I thought S and GTS has larger turbos and injectors over the base engine
Happy New Year Nick . Surprised engine tuning doesn't void the warranty .
I think that’s probably highly situational. Increasing the boost beyond stock definitely causes additional heat stress on the engine. I wouldn’t do it.
I'm also surprised to hear about this. Maybe Nick can dedicate a full video to doing a tune and the warranty issues?
Any messing with the engine tune totally invalidates your warranty as Porsche will, fairly or unfairly, claim that the extra power places added stress on all the cars components, not just the directly affected ones such as the engine, gearbox and drivetrain.
A full titanium catback exhaust cost 2,500 bucks, but 9k bucks is beyond a rip off.
Another outstanding presentation, Nick. Thank you. Do you have any leads on reviewing a Singer 911? I think if any should get behind the wheel of one it ought be you.
Nick saying he likes a smooth rear end definitely perked my ears up a bit
I love a sunroof, after i start the its the next button i push.
Good to see you Nick! So the rear spoiler and a tune are a no-brainer IMO. I would opt for the PDK gear box instead. Does that tune void the warranty? Or does Porsche honor it like BMW does with a Dinan tune?
What a beautiful car Nick! do you think the 992 generation can still be considered a sports car or has it grown too much?
Hey Nick…the Base & Carrera T have the same size turbo chargers and the S/GTS have the same size turbochargers for the 992 gen.
'Doesn't have an impact on the handling or feeling of the car...' THUD, THUD, THUD
Nick I’m on my 3rd 911 (997.1/991.1/992.1-Carrera-T) I did have a 2019 M5-Competition in between 991.1 & 992.1 Carrera T. That M5 was a monster (625 hp hard to use) and I probably agree with you on 400 HP being about right. The 991.1 NA manual was about perfect. 👍🏼
Love your videos, I have a question for you Nick, was offered a 2024 Carrera S allocation for summer delivery, wondering if you think getting the last year of the 992.1 is a good idea or wait for the 992.2. Also what have you hear is fair pricing for a allocation for a S, is paying an ADM still the norm? Thanks
Love the video. Pretty sure it would void the warranty though tuning the engine? Definitely would in the UK
Metal sunroof is best, less weight - and cooler when closed in big summer heat vs glass with shade sunroof.
The base cars have smaller Turbochargers. They spool faster for a more NA feel. I did an ECU tune on my 992 C4 with a PDK and noticed major difference. Still not too much power for the street.
The M-Engineering tune definitely wakes up the 992 Carrera T
The wing is a bit much for me,but a small duck tail would look nice😊
Glad to see you’re back, Nick. I order all my 911s with the 4 way sport seats and no sunroof! I’m a rear spoiler fan, but on a T, I’d want a duckbill spoiler. TBH, I’m a bit disappointed with the Soul exhaust. It sounds like a stock exhaust to me.🤪 Car should have the 6Spd manual, however! Cheers/B
I think it’s very hard to make 992 turbos sound good. 991 was much better in that department.
+1 on the ducktail, not sure they've been able to do an aftermarket one that doesn't disable the standard spoiler operation. I have the 4 way and no sunroof, no regrets. I love the manual, agree that there are too many gears, but my solution is that I rarely go past 6th gear (7th is only for 70+ cruising which I rarely do except on long Interstates far from cities, and 6th works just fine on the freeway under almost all conditions).
A tune will void your powertrain warranty. You will have the available warranty on everything else (AC, lights, etc...) but yes you will lose your warranty on the powertrain. If you have concerns, ask the dealer that you go to. Another note is that although you can "roll-back" the ECU to stock tuning if you have issues from the tune, but you create a log that it was done in the ECU. They know you did it. Not something you can program out. If you tune and break it, deal with it. If you can't pay, don't play. Not cool Nick.
this guy brainwashed by the dealer....... there's always a way. the dealer also has to prove the tune caused your issue - if you had a headlight module failure, the tune isn't going to void your warranty. not all tuners are same. some are able to revert access logs back to same when it was first tuned..... where there's a will there's a way.
@@davidvonslingshot "if you had a headlight module failure, the tune isn't going to void your warranty" - No kidding. That is why I specifically said "You will have the available warranty on everything else (AC, lights, etc...) ". Thanks for not reading past the first sentence. Shows you don't care about the subject and just a troll. And your statement "some are able to revert access logs back to same when it was first tuned" - Sweet, name one that does that for Porsche with a statement from the company saying so. Everybody would be using them and they would be well known for that. The ECU would be coded that an update had occurred that is not coded to Porsche. Email the major brands such as: M-Engineering ("M-Engineering is also not liable for voided warranties due to installation of our products"); COBB ("the AP is not designed to go around any kind of warranty coverage and there may be diagnostics at a much higher level we are unaware of for detection of the tune"). But your right and must have done your research on the issue and have the best interests of others at heart I'm sure. You know more than the major corporations that try. Go tune your modern Porsche (if you have one) and make a vid about the experience. Would love for the community to see it.
@@davidvonslingshotNo, that’s not true, certainly in Europe. Your warranty terms state that using any parts not approved by Porsche invalidates your warranty period. Increasing power is such a fundamental change that the supplying dealer would not have to prove your modifications impacted any faults or failures. In practice, you would have to prove that your modifications DID NOT impact the failed components. You’re also incorrect therefore in saying that tuning your engine impacts the powertrain warranty - it actually impacts almost the whole vehicle’s warranty as (in the manufacturers lawyer’s opinion) increasing power adds strain to virtually every component including such indirectly related issues such as sunroof failure and interior creaks and rattles, components that we all know are universally fitted to all models regardless of standard “factory” outputs. Basically, don’t f*** with the car until it’s out of manufacturers guarantee anyway.
@@neilturner6749 In the US, it is a little different for the rest of the warranty. In the US, it would only deal with the powertrain warranty and the rest of the coverages would be fine. The main point is to ensure that people research and ask their dealership as some are ok with some mods and others are not. Porsche will want to know why their engine failed. I have yet to find a dealer that will overlook a tune. Another major player in the aftermarket Porsche scene is Dundon Motorsports and it states on their site "NOTICE: Tuning your ECU will be visible to Porsche and can potentially void your factory or aftermarket warranty." Yes, even third party warranty companies do not want to pay for a new engine. If you can't afford to fix, don't tune. Simple as that. Nick stating that you can just return to stock if you have a problem and then take to dealer like it's the manufacturer's fault is a #@$% move.
So, who has had an engine failure related to a tune, that is, any software related tune for engine remap? My understanding is that the turbocharged flat 6’s are exceptionally robust engines. Every 911 owner I know has a tune and their vehicles seem to run better with it. And their dealers apparently encourage it, no hiding needed. Anyhoo, love to get an answer to the failure question.
Great vid! Where did you get the rear wing? Porsche dealer? Is this factory? How much did you pay for the wing? Thanks
Love my 23 T manual so different from a PDK
Place me in the LOVE Camp. The tail goes well with the big hips. (that's what she said). Thanks Nick!
Hi Nick ! Thomas from Sweden here. I really enjoy youre videos.
I just got my own new T and its amazing. How much is the car youre testing lowered ? Thanks 😊
Best regards
Looks great Nick! Thanks for the review. Question, which dealership are you working with for your cars? (I'm in the NC region.)
His guy (Lionel) is at Porsche Fairfield (CT) - I worked with him buying my T. Tremendous guy!! Highly recommend!
Happy New Year Nick. Other than Porsche’s eye-watering price increases, my only complaint is that you did not look gangsta-enough…
I like the lowered look and the wing. The ecu tune not so much.
More videos pls!
Would you go in depth about the 992 gen cars and the upcoming .2? With what we know, do you think that this time around the .2 would still be a better buy?
Based on everything I've seen and read, the .2's will no longer have an analog tachometer - it''ll be an all-electronic dash, just like Cayennes, Taycans, Mustangs, Supras and Bimmers now. Apparently there will be hybrid engine options, not sure if it is just the Turbo and Turbo S or whether a Carrera variant will go hybrid.
Tunes also take out the digital delay on electric throttle bodies.... it does make a massive difference, manual or pdk. The power gains are an additional bonus.
Can you elaborate on this
Can you opt for a duck tail spoiler as opposed to one fitted to this car?
Love this spec! I have the Soul Performance Sport Cats and the Valved exhaust and it makes my 992 C4S sound so much better! Do you know if this car has spacers in addition to being lowered?
No spacers
My 992T is equipped with 18 ways and it has the same manual steering column.
What camera mounts are you using on the outside of the Macan? Must be quite trusty.
Nick: I just really look forward to all your videos. Your analysis always enlightens me. If you recall (maybe), I have a 2004 911 turbo cab which I’m trading in for a Cayman S. I should have it hopefully in early June. I ordered it with a manual in Caulk with Graphite Blue leather interior. In total, I ordered it with a little over $15k in equipment options. Thank you for all your assistance (from your videos) in ordering this Cayman. And, please let me know if you are ever in the Virginia Beach area, or if you are having a Meet and Greet. Best regards. Jim
Why are you trading out of the 911?
@@markastor6740 the 911 is a trip and I miss a manual. I feel it’s a good time to update my Porsche experience.
Nick, Need your advice....My new 992.1 Carrera T in Carmine Red is being prepped at the dealer for delivery to me! Should I get the protection film put on the front bumper hood fenders and mirrors of the car for $2200? Also, is the Porsche Term maintenance for 72 mos coverage on all maintenance at $3245 a good deal? Lastly there is a tire and wheel insurance deal for 36 mos for any damage to tire or wheel they replace for $2700?
Fun review Nick. Two comments:
1. my understanding is that the actual turbo units on the S/GTS are larger than on the Base/T.
2. The 4-way sport seats supposedly save close to 100lbs when compared to the 18-way sport seats due to elimination of all the motors and gearing.
Any confirmation on these two points?
Affirmative on both accounts.
Stay classy my friend.
Ok my 2023 GTS 2 has 4 way alcantara, no stereo upgrade (5 less speakers), Ceramic brakes and Carbon fiber roof. Almost no other options except Spider Design wheels and a few bits here and there. My idea was super lightweight without the idiotic factory "Weight Saving" options that actually add weight. I guessed the 4-way sport seats saved about 20 lbs but Apparently more than that. Where did u get those figures on the seat weight? FYI no front lift, no rear steering, no "premium package" etc... I also run 98 octane. I have driven some fast vehicles but this thing is so damn fast.
@@BertShackleford
I thought I would regret not getting the 18-ways on my T, but the 4-ways are easily the most comfortable seats I've ever had in a Porsche (others have been a 987, 718, my wife's Macan) and they fit me perfectly, and the cloth is grippy.
Is the exhaust necessary with the ECU tune? If not I would ditch along with the wing.
They have nicked that sunroof off the Vauxhall Calibra right?
Hey Nick, have you put in an order (or expression of interest) in the Macan EV yet? Or not as keen as you were 12 months ago?
Happy New Year, Nick! "Mars, Bringer of War" seems an appropriate choice for this spec.
I should think that ground clearance is a concern with lowered cars: I've seen some Boxsters offered with PASM -20mm and Sport Design bodywork which would be dicey on our roads. The 911 front axle lift option seems worth it.
Thanks for the continued great work: Always look forward to your informative and fun videos.
Holst!
there is no -20 mm on the Boxster. Only -10 mm PASM.
No need for lift on non GT cars, unless you have horrendous speed bumps in your area or a steep driveway.
We do indeed have aggressive speed bumps, or "traffic calming devices" as they call them here.
I absolutely love the aero pack because the 992 looks ugly when the rear spoiler comes up.
Surely re mapping the ECU and lowering and changing the exhaust voids the warranty on pretty much all
Of the car ?
Does the Carreras models have turbos already? Like the turbo s but just a toned down version?
It does not void the warranty? Are you sure? I have always been advised that if you mess with anything on the car that renders it not OEM it voids the warranty.
Isn’t there a tune that you can switch on or off or at least dump the power back to stock if you wanted to on the fly?
Love it on a coupe not a cab.❤
Any idea if a tune like this on a carrera T will push the car into 200mph territory? Or does the tune just deliver more torque earlier in the rpm range.
please review the integra type s.
Thank you so much for everything you do! 😀
I like the 992 aero kit, specially since the GT products are getting those insane wings!
It looks like a wannabe
@@ArtVandelayOfficial the gt wings are absurd. don't like this one either.
The rear spoiler on a standard 992 looks terrible when deployed. The rear wing on the aero kit says “posser” to me. GT3 wings look idiotic on the street. Duck tails rule.
Some people love it. Some people hate it. Some people think it's ok.
Is it true that with a raised sun roof or open, there’s less buffeting when one window is lowered?
You can get tunes in the United Kingdom for £600, and they can remote in to your car via a laptop. Redline Tuning: Performance Car Tuning - At he end of the day, they dont do anything special. They just find your car on file and load the tune via the ODB port. takes around 30 - 50 minutes. Even 600 is too much but they do save your origianl tune in case you wantto restore it.
Nick, pleeeease make content more frequently
Aren't the turbochargers different between the models? So it's not exactly the same engine.
Does a lowering kit render the _Front End Lift_ obsolete?
Our driveway is rather steep, and while many of the owners I have spoken with say that the Front End Lift is not necessary (on either a Porsche or C8 Corvette); I tend to be extremely hesitant to omit such an option. Albeit an expensive one but I digress.
However, I am a firm believer in the mantra, _"Tis better to have and not need, rather than need and not have.."._ I live by this quote.
On a side note, I find the Aerokit option far more palatable than the gaudy wing and other aerodynamic additions on the RS models. I always thought the Cayman GT4 was the sweet spot for the GT models, both aesthetically and mechanically. Whereas the GT3 Touring and/or S/T is obviously my preferred spec when talking about the 911 model.
FWIW, I always thought the additional Aerokit on the non-GT cars was akin to the tramp stamps that hit the scene around the early 00's. Pleasing to the eye if tastefully done. However, classy quickly turns to trashy when overdone or in poor taste.
Nevertheless, this is a dilemma I currently struggle with on my Carrera T build. I also find myself waffling between the (992) Carrera T and the 718 Cayman GT4 (CPO). Maybe even a new Cayman GTS 4.0 which my wife seems to love so much.
Although, I initially coerced my wife into the Porsche world after showing her the Paint-To-Sample options. This immediately captivated her interest. She would build a plethora of models once she discovered all these glorious color palettes on the configurator. Some were truly wild while others were far more subdued and sophisticated.
Unfortunately, Porsche has removed the PTS option on the Carrera T (as well as many other models) which has posed quite the dilemma. Do we wait for PTS to return or continue to move forward with the options currently presented? Any word when/if PTS will return to the normal lineup?
I know...first world problems.
Stay classy my friends.
So when's your Carrera T being delivered Nick?
Dose anyone know if the water and oil temps stay cool, despite the remap and if the car is track driven?
Wow! You still have ALL 10 fingers, I see...Congrats...
Are you sure that that ECU tune will not void the warranty? I’m pretty sure that here in the US the second you go into a Porsche dealer with a mod ECU if you have any future problems with your motor you’re fucked.
7:50 I have the glass one. Lets more light inside.
Also, I "antimurrayed" my car, with race text roof and sunvisors.
