The US Constitution Topic 2.3 - Breaking Down the Structure of the Three Branches & More: Civics EOC

  • PowerPoint available at: www.teacherspayteachers.com/S...
    Designed for all state Civics exams - including the Florida Civics EOC, Virginia Civics SOL, Florida Civic Literacy Exam (FCLE), and more...
    The video is a quick overview of the sections or Articles of the US Constitution. Students will learn about Article I, and it's establishing the powers and structure of the US Legislative Branch known as Congress. Article II establishes and outlines the Executive Branch headed up by the President of the United States. Article III established the Judicial Branch headed by the US Supreme Court. Article IV discusses the relationship between the Federal Government and state governments known as federalism. Article V establishes how to create amendments to the Constitution. Article VI is known as the "Supremacy Clause" which establishes that federal law is more powerful than state law. Article VII outlines the way the US Constitution was ratified.
    Mr. Raymond’s Civics E.O.C. Academy was designed for students taking the Florida Civics End-of-Course (EOC) Exam. However, as many states are implementing Civics Exams, these videos will work for all students of Civics, US Government, and US History. Currently students have to pass a civics state exam in order to graduate in Idaho, Wisconsin, North Carolina, Arizona, North Dakota, Louisiana, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Utah. These videos look at all of the civics benchmarks that will be tested on most state civics exams.
    As a civics teacher I have often looked for civics TH-cam video clips to show my students. I hope these videos will serve as a supplement to lessons for civics teachers, US history teachers, US government teachers and their students. While they might be a little basic for AP Government students, they could serve as a refresher of basic concepts and content. I have also thought that these videos could help those who are going to take the naturalization test to become US Citizens. I have also been reached by parents whose children are taking Florida Virtual School’s (FLVS) Civics class.

    I'm in my first year of Law School and found this video to be a very helpful review before my Constitutional Law class begins on Monday. Mr. Raymond, thank you so much for creating such a wonderful and succinct video. Your students are incredibly lucky to have such an amazing and passionate teacher. Thank you for inspiring the next generation of leaders. (P.S. - I may make a Constitution flip chart for myself to get me through this semester of Law School. :D)

    Donald Trump needs to watch this as well as all of the Schoolhouse Rock videos. I just heard about his reaction when asked to read a section of the Constitution for an HBO special. He couldn't. He couldn't read many of the words nor pronounce them. He said it was like it was written in a foreign language! Then he yelled at his staff and blamed them for the Constitutions language! He has absolutely no idea of the Constitution. He says Article II gives him power to rule the country like a King as he understands Mr Barr's interpretation. I believe that all politicians should be required by law to pass the Citizenship test that people must pass to become Citizens if they are from other countries. That would have prevented so many problems. I also believe that no one should be allowed to be a candidate if they have been convicted of a crime or are under indictment by either State or Federal courts. Again, would have saved us a lot of problems.

    • @MrRaymondSocialStudies

      You don't think we should have a female president at some point soon (and no I was not referring to Hillary - but I can understand how you took it that way... Anyway, we all have bias TheApana. Fortunately for me while teaching government I am a very centrist independent. I see major pros and cons with both parties ideologies. But I do believe in equality and think the fact that we have never had a female president is embarrasing.

    • @TheApana
      @TheApana 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't understand how that's embarrassing. Females can vote, yet the majority of them clearly vote for male Presidents. I have many friends who live overseas and think women shouldn't even be involved in politics at all (and these friends are women, not "misogynistic" men), so if anything the embarrassment and lack of respect comes when you have a female as the face of your country if you're looking at the image of the country from outside. It's not just females, though, it's anyone weak like our previous President. Those same friends scoffed about how weak our previous POTUS was.
      We do have equality, the process for a woman to run for President is the exact same as a male. Women are allowed to vote, so it's not just "misogynistic" men from preventing them from making it far in elections. There's clearly just never been a good female candidate, yet, so again I don't understand how you're 'embarrassed' by it.
      I find it embarrassing that there are people out there who'll waste their vote simply based off someone's identity (female, black, hispanic, etc.) instead of their merits and their ability to lead the country in a positive direction. Last I checked, voting based on someone's identity didn't work out so well for us the last 8 years. And to be quite frank, if I were black I would be ashamed that's what I got to represent my 'group' for the first time.
      TL; DR - Identity politics is what's embarrassing.

    • @MrRaymondSocialStudies
      @MrRaymondSocialStudies  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well, they've only had the one option and most of America agreed she wasn't a great option. Women weren't allowed to vote for the first 130 years of our country until 1920s. Just like your friends, Americans didn't believe politics were the place for a woman. It was a "dirty" business and they couldn't handle it. I agree with you, our women have it much better off than a lot of the world. However, out culture is just finally letting them into positions of power. I'm not some big women's right crusader nor am I really "embarrased" that we haven't had a female president yet. I'm just saying its about time.

      I thought that too when he said that line, however this video is fantastic.
      I'm sure he has his bias as we all do, but he doesn't present them here. Just the facts.
      This is a great video for any adult that wants a refresher course on the basics of the Constution, or for a kid in middle school and high school that might be having trouble with their civics or history class.
