    5:25 Enumerated Powers

  • @creepp7663
    @creepp7663 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This Video Was really helpful but on a side note (maybe this isn't relevant) but,
    The Judiciary Branch is involved with the Supreme Court... which has the power to declare what's constitutional and whats unconstitutional, but at the same time they are aloud to declare a law "not passed" or just deny the law... Do you think their would be a better branch to carry out this job? Or do you think that the power to do this is like a dictatorship (Heh, i believe that Thomas Jefferson thought it was!) Also to confirm... Can the senate vote against a law that is denied by the Judiciary? And can it just decide to make a new amendment if it feels it needs to? (For example: if the legislative wants to pass abortion but the judiciary decided to deny it) can it just decide to make a new amendment that abortion is legal? -THANKS SO MUCH! Im difficult.

    • @MrRaymondSocialStudies
      @MrRaymondSocialStudies  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! So if the judicial branch declares a law unconstitutional, Congress can (with 3/4ths of the states) create an amendment and then the supreme court can't do anything. They can't mess with a law unless someone sues the government or someone else and then that law can be ruled upon by the court. I think its a pretty good system, but there are definite rulings that will ultimately be unpopular with a good portion of the population... Anyway, thanks for asking! Hope you are having a great year!. Mr. Raymond

    What does James Madison mean when he said "In order to control the legislative authority, you must divide it."

    • @MrRaymondSocialStudies
      @MrRaymondSocialStudies  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The whole idea of the Constitution is to protect from tyranny and to divide power as much as possible. By dividing Congress (legislative authority) into two houses, the two houses will check each others power so that one house doesn't pass a bad law that the people don't want. If they try the other house will stop them.

    • @lemonari_
      @lemonari_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So, like the separation of powers?

    • @MrRaymondSocialStudies
      @MrRaymondSocialStudies  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Arianna Lopez Definitely. Usually when we talk about separation of powers we are talking about the three branches, but in this case he is talking about the advantages of a "bicameral" legislature, which was a big deal during the constitutional convention. But it is still part of separation of powers.

    I wish our education system would elaborate more topics such as the one in this video instead of teaching the same math problem and grammar techniques over and over and over and over and over again, the biggest complaint about 18 year old's voting is that, well, they don't vote, well if you better educate them on government, economy, etc that'll probably change
