My weekly food shop when i am back in the UK always works out far cheaper than in Thailand, even the beer and wine is cheaper, but back in Thailand its the fuel and property prices, especially the rental market that is way way cheaper, and that is what makes it so affordable to live here in Thailand. Property and rents, fuel and amenities ie gas elec water council tax etc in the UK are at crazy prices, Thailand wins hands down for me for affordable living .....
I like Thai food so my shopping is cheap, eating western food can add to the weekly shopping expense. I agree the rental, petrol, energy costs are much cheaper in Thailand. Not being a big drinker wine and beer do not bother me.
Where the hell are you shopping????? Weekly shop for us in Phuket are less than HALF than UK. And when I’m in UK I shop in Aldi / Lidl!!! After a few years in Thailand u come back to Uk and I won’t spend £4 on a coffee or £5 for a pint in a smelly cold boring pub with a few people in it and no entertainment and a fat bar maid. Once you realise your being fleeced in UK only a fool would choose to return
Thanks for sharing. Not quite what I expected, but difficult to compare apples and oranges. Regardless, I love the video, thanks for sharing. Especially love the wander around Tescos - it feels like Aladin's cave. Greetings from Tokyo.

Les, when I was back in the UK last year for a couple of months, I checked out the prices in Sainsbury, compared with Thailand. What I found was processed food (which is about 95% of what the supermarket sells!), was more expensive than Thailand. But if you eat fresh food (fruit, salad, vegetables etc), the price was comparable to Thailand (contrary to what people in the UK often complain about that fresh, healthy food is expensive). I didn't find to be the case.
Got bananas mangoes figs all growing here in Chiang Mai. Joy grows loads of vegetables also. Wow this woman looks after me. Fabulous to have found her. Married 42 years next month. Bob
I'm lucky liking Thai food which is much more cheaper than Western food. Penang Curry GBP 11.95 compared to about 5 pounds in Thailand, the weekly shop and eating out I find cheaper in Thailand I found.
When comparing prices in different countries, you need to remember your not comparing 'apples with apples' Min wage in Thailand is £1.10 per hour as of April 24 , UK minimum wage of £11.44
Of course your correct I'm showing people to look outside the UK Box for when you retire as your money goes further outside the UK in Retirement. I live in Thailand and my pension goes father than it would in the UK.
When I do my weekly shop in Thailand for the month of each year we are there , cost wise there is very little in it , the only thing I find a bit cheaper is those nice cuts of pork you buy loose in the Big C look like a small lean joint ,, I usually have those 3 times a week cooked in our halogen oven with steam veg , potatoes when I can get them , take my gravy from the uk as it’s hellishly expensive there if you can find it , butter is expensive and cheese , proper cheese not that plastic crap is off the price scale . I drink a lot of Chang sparkling water which is much cheaper than the uk and the cakes I buy daily for my family are the same price as the uk Of course the average wage in thai is about £8 a day whereas in the uk it’s over 10 times that amount , it’s all pro rate and after 10 years of frozen pension plus proposed tax on pension entering Thailand it’s not really as cheap as it’s all cracked up to be , add to that in the last 9 months I’ve had well over £60000 worth of treatment on the nhs to save my life ,,, lots and lots to think about before retiring away from the uk
@@retiredpainter259 Thanks for your input, of course with any decision there are plus and minus in every event 10 years of Frozen pension has an impact also but I have work around for that also. Best wishes for your future health.
@RetiredandLivingthedream Les I'm not disputing it's cheaper, I know Thailand well, spend lots of time there myself, I just feel a little nervous people won't do their own due diligence. They need and live there for min 6 months before selling up in the UK to see if they'e able to handle the change in lifestyle, weather, language, food and the general disorganised way things happen in Thailand 🇹🇭 😀
I always said that UK supermarket quality & prices are better than Thailand esp dairy products. Ready meals..fresh pizzas etc… are good value in UK as most ppl buy them. There’s more high street competition in UK than Thailand hence better prices…always shop Tesco..Aldi or treats sometimes at M&S. Usually stock up on items before going to Thai.🧐😉🙏
Ready meals should be banned the amount of preservatives that are added to these to keep them on the shelves longer Fresh food every day in Thailand, They also have ready meals in Thailand but not the same amount as here in the UK. The 7 / 11 Burgers are very tasty but I know it's wrong. Thanks for watching. 🙏
Yep I agree, Cumberland sausages in Rayong were over a pound each. When I ran a coffee shop it was hard to do a decent English breakfast for a reasonable price. UK beats that hands down.

How is this comparing Thailand against the UK when 90% of the goods on the video aren't sold in Thailand! The milk is far cheaper in the UK!

Not just any Air, it's M&S Air.
Les, Sainsbirys is one of the most expensive supermarkets behind watrose & M&S.
Lidl & Aldi at least 30 - 50% cheaper
Upmarket food shops were always more expensive M&S very expensive. Always an Asda or Tesco shopper.
Singha beer is now produced in U.K. under licence. £2.50 for a 630ml bottle
Asda 3 pound a bottle. I prefer Chiang myself.

Is retiring in Malta still a thing for British expats or only for those with certain means?
Don't know but Retirement can happen in many places around the world if you meet the requirements.
How much is Dairy Milk chocolate in Thailand?
No Idea, not a big chocolate eater.
In Thailand, pork is 120-130 THB/kg, Chicken breast 85-90 THB/kg. Western foods and ingredients should be cheaper in the UK.
We have roasted Chicken every week. At least half price in Thailand. Thanks for watching.
Have you made a video about the downside of living in Thailand?
For me I have no downsize, so can't comment om that.
