Hello! Did you know I recently released a 97-page book titled The Neocaridina Shrimp Handbook? Very true and agree with all your points in the video. Shrimp do not eat algae but act as a way to prevent it. Like eating away the root cause 😅. Also they help the ecosystem by cleaning up the fish eggs as well so they are fungus and bacteria free had them in an Ember Tetra tank and now n then Ember babies would pop up😄
I like to grow my own shrimp food. I basically neglect the growth of my duckweed. I harvest it every few months. I get as much as I can Into a blender along with one egg white and egg shell. A tablespoon of spirulina powder and I blend all that into a thick smoothy. Then I just pour it all on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and dry it all out in the oven on the lowest setting. The shrimp all go crazy for it. Sure it floats for a day or so but my tanks are shrimp only with the exception of ramshorn snails. Not much competition for food.
My first video of yours -- awesome stuff + new sub! Just got my first "fancy" neo shrimp a week or two ago -- I 'think' I know what I'm doing, roughly, but this info is SUPER HELPFUL!!! Great advice and looking FW to seeing more of your stuff! Also...maybe my new fave shrimp expert -- thanks!!!
Thank you for taking the time to watch the video. Hopefully it proves useful. If you haven’t done so already, why not download my FREE ebook on Neocaridina Shrimp. Link in the video description. Richard
Just got a shipment of 20 fire red cherry shrimp super excited I’m going to start breeding in my 30 gallon with just neon tetra had bad experience in the past with my guppies eating them so moved them into a different tank with only neon tetra
How well does Repashy powder work if given that way rather than a gel? I find that the shrimp love Baby Shrimp powder by Glas Garten and eat it off the glass. Would Repashy powder work in the same way?
I had a tank go nuts with algae because it got too much direct sunlight. I bought 4 adult size cherry shrimp and with 3 days every single leaf, stem, wood, rock, everything was clear of algae. So yeah, if it is that short green hair algae they love to eat that.
I always feed my shrimp with blanched organic spinach are that sufficient for them? Because it seems not all of them not eat it in different tank, I'm afraid that not good enough.
I have grown large colonies of RCS in tanks with Corys and Bristlenose Plecos. Do they eat SOME of the shrimp? Probably. Does the colony grow fast enough you never notice? Usually 👍🏻
How can I feed the shrimp when my guppies and gourami compete for the food? They always manage to sniff it out! I've tried turning a small aqua plant basket upside down to create a sort of cage, but the guppies can still get into the food.
If targeting feeding the RCS is proving difficult, I would try feeding the shrimp after the lights go out. I don’t mean the moment the light switches off, but when the room becomes dark at the end of the day. I have one tank that I have to feed once the fish room goes into totally darkness. 🦐
I have 6 Cherry Shrimp in a planted 10gl tank for about 2 weeks. So far they ignore any type of shrimp food that I have dropped into a feeding dish. Is that because there is enough biofilm for them to consume?
Whether or not there is sufficient biofilm will very much depend how long the tank has been running before adding the shrimp. If you have fish in the tank, there is a good chance the shrimp are dining on uneaten fish food, fish poop and biofilm. Personally, I would scrap the feeding bowl and just let the food land where ever it ends up. The shrimp may not want to get into the feeding bowl to eat. I hope that helps. 🦐👍🏻
Hello new to your channel, question… if you have newborn shrimplets should you feed them everyday so they get enough to eat? Thanks mate from USA 🇺🇸 I am new to your channel, I have a channel here as well, I invite you to join mine as well mate🙂👍🏻
Hi, thanks for taking the time to watch the video. Personally, I would not worry too much about feeding the baby shrimps directly unless you have removed them from the main tank and added them to their own tank (which isn’t something I ever bother to do). Providing the tank they are in has been running for at least a few weeks, and you are feeding any other occupants of the tank, the shrimplets will find plenty to eat! I will check out your channel too. All the best. Richard.

Wow! Making your own shrimp food is proper hardcore! I take my hat off to you 🦐
So informative and must needed video, at least for me, cuz I 'm keeping some for the first time. Thanks for the video.
Im glad the video helped. Best of luck with the shrimp. They are well worth sticking with.
Thank you for the detailed video.
Glad you brought up fish eggs, because people say they will eat them, but in my experience when breeding pygmy cory, they absolutely do not.
I could not agree more! 👍🏻
Hey that's my exact tank setup that led me to this video.
My friend uses shrimp instead of methylene blue to keep his fish eggs nice…
1:29 can you use jackfruit leaves? And are they enough for shrimps?
Great advice for a new keeper. Thank you buddy :-) My 🍒 🦐 are very grateful :-)
Thanks for the positive feedback. Much appreciated 🤜🏻
This was really helpful thanks👍
Also…Ur eyes tho!! 😍
Thanks 🙏🏻
my shrimp like eating bugs or spiders that I put in the tank and they get fish food and algae wafers they love it!
Giving them bugs is great. Can really help recreate their natural diet. Just make sure they are pesticide free 👍🏻
@@FishKeepingAnswers I know they are not ,but they are good food to my 2 betta fish and to my shrimp .
Glad to see you have your hair back. You just shaved it on profile picture 👌

Great tips. I just started my own little colony of juvenile rcs. Wish me luck!
Good luck 🤞🏻
What is that bushy substrate plant in your shrimp tank? Looks impressive, but how do you even do water changes? No siphon vacuum surely 🤷
What particular rapashy gel? When i search there's so much that pops up

That’s a great result 🦐
Do they eat the eggs of fish in the tank, like cory cat fish?
I asked too soon, LOL
😂
what are those tiny snails i see in your black substrate. thanks
I have Ramshorn Snails and Malaysian Trumpet Snails in that tank. I am a huge fan of snails. They help make a proper ecosystem 🐌
@@FishKeepingAnswers oh ok so they must by baby trumpet. Thanks!
Glad to help. Richard
id like to keep some my betta with some red cherry shrimp, do you know what food would be best to use incase the betta eats them?
Something that sinks. Maybe algae wafers or Repashy gel food.
Awesome😊
Thank you 🙏
Besides algae wafers, what would be a good sinking food to balance their diet?
I like to use a combination of Repashy, Tetra Colour Crisps, Hikari Vibrabites and frozen bloodworm 👍🏻
I always feed my shrimp with blanched organic spinach are that sufficient for them? Because it seems not all of them not eat it in different tank, I'm afraid that not good enough.
Do you sell and post these at all? I'm in the UK too 😊
Unfortunately, we no longer breed shrimp to sell 😢
My shrimp eat all the food within an hour or so
Saw corydoras on the video.
Have you had experience with Cory’s or plecos posing any threat to shrimp?
I have grown large colonies of RCS in tanks with Corys and Bristlenose Plecos. Do they eat SOME of the shrimp? Probably. Does the colony grow fast enough you never notice? Usually 👍🏻
My guppies eat all the shrimp food
Yeah, this can be a problem 😩

My tank only has 100ish in it and they finish an algea wafer everyday within a few hours
It’s surprising how much they can eat. 🦐
So im not over feeding? They're just ravenous?
I wouldn’t have said so. I might consider having a day or two a week when I didn’t feed them, but it depends what else is in the aquarium
@@FishKeepingAnswers nope just them 🤣 ill try that thon theyre very spoiled. thank you for your quick replies and awesome videos!
Pleasure! Thank you for your feedback. It is always nice to hear people are getting some value from my videos.
My shrimp hate algae wafflers
