keeping the ultimate driving machine running like it did from the factory.recommended maintenance is sometimes overlooked but you and Joel performed the task flawlessly.lets get that paint and finish corrected to a brilliant shine.
WOW, BMW still uses the plastic coolant flange in the N55!! I replaced it in the N54 in my E92 last year. Didn't know they still using it in the N55, shame on you BMW. Overall great video Mousa, keep the good work.
Perfect timing for this video, I have a '12 535 m sport and I recently hit 102k miles. Everything here looks like it can be done at home except for the walnut blasting. Thanks for showing BMW owners that the dealership is merely an option when it comes to simple service procedures like these.
Autool makes an amazing portable Walnut blasting machine that includes everything (except the walnuts) all adapters for all cars. Cleans each valve inlet in seconds and professionally done.... the Autool HTS 518 runs at about $400 or less. Just buy a compressor at Harbor Freights and when you are done with it, return it for a refund. A must have for BMW owners that love working on their cars... I have their amazing Smoke Machine Autool SDT206 and does an incredible job in finding the smallest vacuum leaks fast! Another viewer did a tear down on the machine and was blown away of all the premium quality parts used to build it and how clean it looked with the assembly! Autool ain't no joke... worth my money!
My 2008 535xi has 214K miles on it. She's still kicking. First thing I had to replace was the Mickey Mouse coolant part at 197k. Then the other ones throughout the coolant system, especially the one attached to the radiator on driver side. Updated plugs and coils, cam sensors, filter housing gaskets and pretty much everything you mentioned. I had to do the heater switch too.
I did my 335 with an N55 110,000 miles at the start of COVID. Did everything you covered and diffs and xfer case oil. Great video!!! Keep the N55 content coming.
Thanks, yeah hoping it appeals to someone that is looking for a relatively well-maintained car. This was dealer serviced regularly up until the last couple years.
Great video for us BMW fans. Thanks. I was surprised that you didn't install the front seal guard as you did on other N54/N55s. I installed one on our F15 after watching one of your videos & explaining it's importance as cheap 'insurance',
Great stuff on the sway bar bushing. I have been looking for that. Also i like to add if you have oil in the vacuum reservoir (valve cover). You might have idle issue and consider replacing the plastic check valve on the vacuum pump.
You got your self a new subscriber, tank you very much for sharing your knowledge,I hope everything goes smoothly in your life, chears from Quetzaltenango.🇬🇹
Awesome bro! Would love to see the in-depth guides like you typically do especially for this early gen n55 that doesn’t have much content out therr on TH-cam
Its a good idea to buy a bridge seal and sleeves for the zf gearboxes too while everyhting is off and your changing oil, they are usually flattened out a bit and once changed the clutch pressure readings usually reduce on the diagnostic machine. Great video just wanted to add this as they are pretty cheap make a big difference, only extra thing to do is drop the valve body while sump is off
I've got a 2011 135i with N55 and it sounds like a garbage disposal full of spoons with oil cap off. People commented on forums that it is normal. I have a short video if you search my user name, sorry to highjack, but I've been following your vidoes for a while now and trust your opinion. Thanks.
I have a 2008 535i that I bought with 98,500 miles on it and I need some work done on it. Since you live in San Diego now, can I have you work on it because you look like you know what you are doing and you are a very honest person which is hard to come by. I would trust with any of my cars to be honest. If you read this and see it, today is 5/11/2022 and I am up north about 65 miles from Kearny Mesa Zip Code 92123. I have a radiator leak and it is hitting the exhaust pipe on the passenger side and it smells bad and when it gets in the car it burns my eyes. I put all of 200 miles on this car in the last 2 months and it has given me a lot of trouble. I watched your videos and because of you I got inspired and changed the valve cover gasket, spark plugs and the ignition coils plus an oil change. Oh and the car threw codes left and right so I saw another video you did and I replaced an Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 1 also because of you. I am not a mechanic, I have ZERO training, never touched a BMW of any kind and this is my 6th BMW oh and I never went to mechanic shop back in High School, so your videos are awesome to watch because of the way you explain things, it is easy for me anyway to pick up on what you're saying. Anyway I like all the videos I watch and I went ahead and Subscribed to your channel. I hope to hear from you very soon and I look forward to you working on my car if you are willing to do so. I would be happy to pay you for your services and pay cash if you would like. Thank you for your time and consideration. ~ DC
It's crazy seeing those California plates on ur cars now... do u miss Texas yet?? I love living in commifornia but I just hate that they're so damn strict when it comes to cars 😕
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. Quick question, I have a 2008 X5 3.0si 150k miles thinking of replacing ZF transmission pan & fluid but not sure if it’s ever been serviced previously.
I got all new ignition coils, spark plugs, trans flush, OFHG, coolant reservoir expansion kits with all new upper/lower hoses replaced. Pretty much damn near everything replaced with OEM parts or upgraded besides fuel injectors/vanos solenoids, and radiator replaced. Just bought a fuel injector cleaning tool kit before I cash out on all new fuel injectors. Any other reasons I’m missing that’d cost low mpg or misfires? It always misfires and has a check engine light when going to 4/5 and already checked those are the only 2 that miss fires. But when I park and restart my car and easy into higher speeds it never pops up.
So glad you changed from the chemicals with mechanical cleaning to walnut blasting of the intake valves. ATF was beyond expired. Too bad you did not do a 100% mechanical replacement. Drain and refill is just diluting the remaining 10L of the expired ATF.
Given it has 130K miles as much as I'd have liked to do a full flush and pull the mechatronics to check seals it shifts well and the adaptations were well within spec, no major wear indicated via a scan tool and mixing with some of the remaining oil would ensure friction material remains in the fluid if there was excess wear. For this car given the adaptations looked good I'd recommend the next owner changes the oil at 30 to 50K miles depending on if they drive mostly highway or city.
I don’t understand doing walnut blasting vs using GM upper engine cleaner: takes less time and certainly much faster and cheaper?? Results are the same according to 2 mechanics that I fully trust. I just did the upper engine cleaner before tearing my motor down just to try proving them wrong because every forum says “walnut blasting is the best”; the upper engine cleaner has my intakes looking new!! N54 with 78k
You have just confirmed I made the correct decision buying Japanese cars for the last 25 years. German cars are high maintenance. At 100K km which is about 62,000 miles , I feel I just broke in my Camry. The coolant is good for 10 years , and I do not expect any corroded fittings that need replacement. I already checked my spark plugs and I will not replace the coil till one fail. I make air filters last the life of the car by inspecting and blowing it clean every couple of years, unless I decided to move to the desert. BMW have a reputation of using cheap plastic parts and some of them, you cannot even replace the battery without help from the dealer to reprogram the computer. I did replace one item, the oil filter holder, which is cheap plastic and prone to break, mine is now aluminum. My 98 Corolla, I went about 200,000 miles and never touched the transmission, I do not expect my luck to last, so I will change the fluid soon. A BMW , how much you will pay me to take it off you?? Another 100K miles and the owner might have to tow it to the desert and shoot it in the computer.
What are your thought on the Dinan ignition coils for the N55, especially with fbo. Or would you say delphi is still the better option. Thanks for the video!!!
Bro I love your chanel, I'm a BMW fan and owner, Love my X5 but these vechiles are really a lot to maintain , especially if a person doesn't know much about them. I have learned over the last few years how to take care of mine and am always looking to learn more about them. Very complex machines, but not hard to understand if you have an electrical mechanical back ground ; like I do or you'r a mechanic by trade. But I was wondering, I see you have a lift that you can move around with a floor jack, where did you get that and how much does that cost, I would love to get one of those?

Can you use the square shaped top retained injectors by simply using a different hold down bracket? That would seem more straightforward than sourcing the oddball rounded injectors (I'm not sure all or most vendors delineate between the two).
Quick question, do you like the idea of putting Permatex on both sides of the new oil filter housing gasket, to prevent long term leaking? Many recommend doing so, so I'm considering it
Never do that, if anything look up Molykote (silicone grease) and you can put that on it which will keep it softer longer. Anyone who recommended that is a fool.
I managed to fill my 8HP ZF trans with 5.5L. Maybe 6L with spills. I had to make a second fill after the transmission had reached its target temp AND most importantly, I had to do the second fill WHILE the car was running. In the FCP euro guide they don't provide that information, so it was tricky to figure it out. How much transmission fluid were you able to get into the ZF trans? Also why not use the original ZF fluid?
Yes a 2nd fill right after starting the car and double check level after going through gears and letting the trans get over 40 to 50c. I think this took between 6 and 7 liters. Went with this fluid due to its rating and price.
It's part of the regulator and would probably last closer to 150K+ miles. Would have been great if there was an inline filter that was easily serviceable.
HELP ! I have an n54 with fresh plus and coils(only 1 month in) and I have a cylinder 3 and 6 misfire. I honestly went with DINAN’s new coils for the n54 along with OEM plugs. It never misfired so bad as it is now 🤦🏾♂️ Should I go with Eldor ? This literally has never happened to me any other misfire wasn’t as rough! Car is literally vibrating at idle please help
HaHa Quick synopsis... The N55 BMW platforms are quite the mistress in terms of maintenance. $$$$ - The metal mickey mouse fitting is sold by FCP Euro in a kit. The original plastic fitting has a one-time use metal clamp. If the plastic fitting is corroded it might break off and you can get the metal clamp off by crushing the plastic fitting. If not, it might be a hassle to get the metal clamp off...by cutting the hose or using a Dremel. Get a replacement screw hose clamp. The FCP Euro clamp is junk. There is also an o-ring. - The ATF change is a pain. To change the filter you need to buy an entirely new plastic pan, since the filter is not removable. So Stupid. Get a ZF OE Pan, versus BMW OEM part. The fluid is also by ZF...but you can use Liqui Moly. - BONUS: Get a box of oil pan drain plugs for $2-3 each. The threads get messed up over time. So change the drain plugs every 25k-35k miles with an oil change (5k-7k miles). Plus change the idler pulleys with the belt change. The bearing wear and get noisy. Changing the coolant is #$%%^ Bleeding the system is automated.
This video is a little cumbersome, I can't tell if it is a DIY, a vlog, or a dealer sales video. I get it you want to document the work done but maybe stop mentioning it. Just a little constructive criticism with the new format.
I like your content but the order of things in the video is a bit all over the place IMO. It’s also no longer a DIY video, it’s more of a tips style while we watch you work in fast motion. But I guess that’s the only way to get all of the maintenance you did in to one video. Check out M539 Restorations for excellent BMW content.
Bmw and all these auto manufacturers, they purposely put all these plastic junk around the heated engines, knowing it’s gonna extort they driver’s pockets, now they have all these newer electrical engines that are far more complicated lol 😂 am driving my 2009 til they bury me.
keeping the ultimate driving machine running like it did from the factory.recommended maintenance is sometimes overlooked but you and Joel performed the task flawlessly.lets get that paint and finish corrected to a brilliant shine.
Yeah Joel did great, be works like a flat rate tech in that he is quick and accurate.

With you fixing cars and bringing them back to life, are you still doing your day job in IT Musa?
@Philip Shelby he does
Yeah I'm still doing my day job, given I'm on PST now that gets me a couple more hours of daylight to put toward this.
dont forget about transfer case fluid if you have an xdrive
Been watching you awhile but I'm even more excited to watch now that you have a shop and bigger plans. Subscribed! :)
Thanks!
Great video and welcome back! the Coolant flange link is not for the n55, can you list the one for n55. Thank you!

I would definitely feel safe buying a car from you!! I can’t wait to see the paint correction and interior detail.
I had my Mickey Mouse replaced on my E60 around 140,000. Car still running strong!
Soon you will be big and up there with sponsors like Kies Motorsport started a few years ago!
Changed my ZF pan/ filter on my 2011 e70 30d x5 and made a huge difference 👌🏻👌🏻

The best BMW content on TH-cam hands down. Thank you for sharing the knowledge with the community. I can’t wait to see the finished product.
Another excellent video. Very much appreciated from an F10 owner. Keep up the great work,

Love the move you did with the channel. Watch every video
Thank you for watching!
Congrats on the new space, your videos have a real good content that shows knowledge and confidence.
This is so good what you are doing can't wait to see more abused BMW's come to you and I can watch tour incredible videos
Cool time lapse. How about some n63 action on the next car?
Yeah I've been seeing a few with over 100K miles with smoking issues. If the price is right I'll dabble in that.
Thanks for saving this 5 series I have the same exact car.
Do NOT attempt to have a local Jiffy Lube shop attempt ANYTHING shown here. Including the oil change. =8)
New Engine = New Car
BMW N series maintenance, job done !!

Great work, love the work and figuring out the issues
How much would it cost to perform such a service on average? Proactive replacement of things that could fail and cleaning the intake valves etc?
Mah man, if you have lived near L.A. I would be taking my bad ass F10 Carbon Black Metallic M Sport to you for all my major fixings!
San Diego isn't that far if it's major like an engine
Could you do a similar video for the E9X platform? (If not done already)

Great video as always, but what about the dif fluid.
What was the brand you used to fill the transmission ? thanks.
Wish you could rebuild mine, great work
Great vid! Have an oil leak down front of N54 @74k miles... do you think it's oil filter housing gasket? Did valve cover gasket @60k
Need your help on some codes on my 2011 535i
Do all bmws have that Mickey Mouse coolant part? I have a 2008 128i
Excellent helpful content.
Bro I LOVE your videos thank you so much for all this great info!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! How to contact you, I want to cooperate with you!😁

They are about $5-6k
my guyyyy, automatic like. 🖤
Excellent job !
Hey Musa!
So I tried finding your email from the exchange in your previous vid regarding your move over to CA and my car... Couldn't find it bro, sorry!!
I absolutely still want to reach out man, would you be ok with providing it in a reply to me here?
Again, I understand the lack of privacy via this medium ...
I really hope to hear back from you bro!
As always, FANTASTIC stuff man! Thank you for all you do!
Hey Juan, yeah sure you can email me at avemandiy@gmail.com
Thats got to be the most well sorted 130k mile f10 in the world haha.
Is it necessary to remove the intake plenum to get the oil filter housing gasket off? It was not on the N52, but here it was shown removed.
Yes
Wow great video and presentation , 🇬🇧😊
Can you use the square shaped top retained injectors by simply using a different hold down bracket? That would seem more straightforward than sourcing the oddball rounded injectors (I'm not sure all or most vendors delineate between the two).
No they are not interchangeable they have slightly different spray characteristics. Yes all vendors note the production date for EU5.
How much will all that cost?
First!!! Like always men best videos for bmw thank you
Thanks!
Thanks for posting this video. Can you give me a rough estimate of the cost of the parts for everything that you did?
For the mechanical maintenance it was about $1200-1300 with the motor mount.
Ultimate driving it is... Ultimate reliability... Not so much. Good thing though is that's fixable and vehicularDIY has it down.
That damn thing burnt up two water pumps on me before I find out what what the problem was pieces of that were going through coolant
Seems like the water pumps lift expectancies are very hit and miss on the N20/N55.
I found a piece that fit exactly to that Inlet stuck in my water pump smh
Holy crap- you have a face?!? And a body?!? I always thought you were just hands that could talk 🤯
Thnx bro
You’re a legend

Where is your shop located are you taking on clients?
I have a 2010 335i
Is there a fuel filter on these that I would need to replace
It's part of the regulator and would probably last closer to 150K+ miles. Would have been great if there was an inline filter that was easily serviceable.
Is priming the oil system possible or necessary on the e90, after replacing the oil filter housing gasket?
It's a good practice but at the minimum I would recommend you fill up the oil filter housing with oil before giving the car a crank.
In my experience ,A lot of BMW owners drive their vehicle to the ground without doing any maintenance;
Then they call the car a POS
Spoken like a prophet, you must be a BMW tech😂😂😂😂
yessss new vid
What I’ve learned about BMWs with over 100k is to replace everything made of plastic.
Should also mention the car 100000% needs a walnut blast. Tryna think of anything at this point cus this misfire literally happened out of nowhere

nice car
Whoever got this car gonna feel like getting 0mile car
is that a mobile self standing single post lift ?????????????????????????????????? wow
Nice!!
Then it spins a rod bearing.....
🤫🤫🤫🤫 dont give her any bad ideas
I think maybe get some OEM wheels because the wheels on this are aftermarket garbage
I don’t like these time lapse videos of you fixing things. I’d rather see step by step while you explain what you’re doing.
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻
After 100k miles you should probably sell you bmw to a 16 year old kid for 3000 dollars
Note: ultimate "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" driving machine............Freak'n beeeeeeeemers!''''''''''''get a Lexus end of story!
BOOOORRRRRRRRRRIIIINNNNNGG
This video is a little cumbersome, I can't tell if it is a DIY, a vlog, or a dealer sales video. I get it you want to document the work done but maybe stop mentioning it. Just a little constructive criticism with the new format.
I like your content but the order of things in the video is a bit all over the place IMO. It’s also no longer a DIY video, it’s more of a tips style while we watch you work in fast motion. But I guess that’s the only way to get all of the maintenance you did in to one video. Check out M539 Restorations for excellent BMW content.
He already has more in depth DIYs for all this maintenance, I think, not 100% sure about ALL but most of it for sure.
Bmw and all these auto manufacturers, they purposely put all these plastic junk around the heated engines, knowing it’s gonna extort they driver’s pockets, now they have all these newer electrical engines that are far more complicated lol 😂 am driving my 2009 til they bury me.
More like 75k miles :(….
