Thanks for sharing this. I was 9 back in 1977 and remember well some of the builds in this book and the transition into the minifig era via the less detailed not-quite minifigs. It was the new minifigs in 1978 in the new (Classic) Space line that kept me in LEGO until I went dark in 1982.
*I will review new Star Wars sets when I'm able to acquire them. They were released in Europe & the "Asia" region which includes Australia. They've not been released in North America.*
I remember this book so clearly from when I was 8. It was quickly overshadowed by every later one where the fully developed minifig took over, but I really did like the maxifig. It was many years before I switched over to building exclusively for the minifig. The maxifig was versatile and rather lovely and I still have a couple on display even now! :)
I had quite a lot of Lego back then and could build most of the ideas in the book, if not all. I have recently acquired some static minifigs from an ebay purchase and have also acquired a six wide print of the headlight brick, I had quite a few back in 1977. I wish I had kept what I had back then. There were only 5 basic brick colours; red, blue, yellow, white and black. Green and grey were used for baseplates and small trees. Grey bricks were introduced with the Lego space sets. I was nine at the time.
Actually this was extremely entertaining to me, as 1977 is when I was 7 and this is what I played with. Thank you for putting up this historical stuff Jang!
Thanks for this, many happy memories. I wasn't a rich kid, but do recall making a few of the cars (11:51) and building the large "one-brick-thick" figures to go with them.
Wow, I love how the Maxi-Figs seem to almost have more life than minifigs, no doubt much less printing facial-wise but the amount of poses shown in this book was incredible, makes it seem like you could really set out a nice whole scene with them. Nice vid!
These lego idea book videos are actually my favorite on the whole channel. There are still a few more for you to make videos about but i wish they still made these today. The dk books are the closest things i guess.
Oh gosh, nostalgic stuff... I've never owned those idea books, I only saw some pictures of the books on LEGO book I had(kinda like "history of LEGO" book) but it was fun looking at the old LEGO models. Great video Jang!
Hi, thanks for sharing the 1977 idea book. That's the year I was born. I didn't start collecting till 1985. I still have my first set #310. I now have over 150 sets an over 20,000 Lego pieces.
Surprised to see that both the triangular and cylinderpieces are so old! 8:47 a way to heat up the house(maybe it doesn't even have radiators), similar to houses back in the day powered by generators they had outside.
A page 30, I did think on a old danish fairytale named "Fyrtøjret" (The Tinderbox) by H. C. Andersen, where a soldier meet a witch and are sent down and old tree.
"uses what's now an illegal technique" Strange, I use that all the time for greebeling... I am an illegaler! Also, at 15:06, that's a Linn tractor halftrack! That's awesome!
I'm sure someone already commented this (I just scrolled back a little bit) but that guy "with the ball" you couldn't figure out may have been a football player. He looked like he had a helmet and his shirt was striped with the number one like a jersey haha
At 10:23 the pole in the back of the build is a totem pole, the man standing on one leg is a native american dancing to his god, and the sitting person is beating a drum. Just what I think it is.
Director Orson Krennic lol, when i was watching rogue one i discovered Creninck has the exact same hairstyle as i do XD so now i feel a strong connection to him

Thanks for the great videos Jang you are awesome! You should do another updated parts tour!
Thank you for this, Jang.
Its amazing how far Lego has come from 1977 to 2016
The red part to the house with the chimney looks like a outside baking oven :)
Yes, that's what I thought too. Or maybe an old fashioned boiler house.
I still have that silver printed bumper piece somewhere. And several bigfigs. Should look them up some time...
I was 6.....this was always with me, funny to think 1 year later Classic Space changed my life.......
it sounded so mean yet so funny when you said "Yeah Susan, susan failed!" XD
Both Buildfigs and Technicfigs should be brought back. Even as one cheap sets.
They are very creative and helps making models alive.
This made me smile :)
lego has come a long way
I've noticed that the Lego Architecture box art also appears to highlight the individual bricks.

You should make one of the big builds. Should be easy for you with your brick inventory.

Nice vid Jang
I'm so old I built everything on every page of this book when it came out. lol
I'm sure someone already commented this (I just scrolled back a little bit) but that guy "with the ball" you couldn't figure out may have been a football player. He looked like he had a helmet and his shirt was striped with the number one like a jersey haha

That book is just as old as I am!
Can you do the dynamic duo funhouse escape
I share your feelings, while I was young, I always felt that they were crude.
the buildings were the best feature in my opinion.
much more interesting than I had hoped tho
I can't wait to get the new Y-wing
I dug out my childhood Legos and I'm trying to figure out the year of them. We think maybe mid 70's.
Great video 👍
The guy on page 10 with the striped shirt on is indeed a footballer. I think it's supposed to resemble one of the 1960s European team shirts.
12:27 Look up Model T house car, it's an actual thing..
The ideas we are dealing with here are immeasurable
Director Orson Krennic lol, when i was watching rogue one i discovered Creninck has the exact same hairstyle as i do XD so now i feel a strong connection to him

Love your reviews Jang! just wanted to note that even the book is priced at 99 cents, JCPENNEY was selling it at 5.99 dollars? hmm seems rather fishy
Jang you're the man! Can you do some more Burger King reviews tho 😉
There's something odd about that maxifigure house.
jang I think the figures on the cover is from a Europe an set so this magazine is from Europe based on my knowledge anyways good find
cool
whatever happened to Maxi figs?
Maybe they went extinct, so maxifigs are like the neanderthals of Lego people?
They were replaced by the minifigs.
it's okay susan, I say lego bricks.
what do you mean by 'HO Scale'?
-_-
did anyone noticed that faces of maxifigures looks like variations of lenny face ?
In 11:31 in 38 it's a concorde
why is stucking the pieces sideways an illegal technique?
JANGBRiCKS the figure/person that you couldn't figure out was surely a soccer player (footballer here in Europe)?......
The one didn’t understand on page 11 was a footballer, there is a number 1 on his chest and that is a ball. Like so he will see
