Purchased this book at Toy's R Us back in the early 90's when I was kid. I loved those stickers, particularly the food related ones that you pointed out. It was difficult to try and find this idea book as an adult because most pictures of this book on the internet leave out the stickers, which are what I remember most fondly. Thank you for taking the time to revisit this, Jang.
There were at least 3 ideas books published prior to this one. I know I've got all 3 in (relatively) good condition. I think the second book published had a narrative which followed a couple of minifigs as they moved to a new city, visited the circus, then were whisked off into space by visiting robots - then finally ending in a castle realm, back when castles were brick-built in yellow. I'd love to film a similar video for these older books, but I haven't got Jangs presentation skills! Excellent vid as always.
Oh man! I had that book when I was a child! I loved it! In my own city I had the restaurant, the dumptruck, stores, and many more of the instructions in this book. I even figured out a couple of the stuff that is on the background pictures.
man, these videos are sweet. I love seeing the more simplistic building system from old system sets, plus I legitamitely felt inspired to make some stuff, those town dioramas definitely tickled my fancy.
I got this idea-book when it came out. Also got the Pirates book with the two minifigs (you should check that out if you haven`t and can source it from somewhere, its a cool little comic book that helps build character for the minifigs in the Pirate line). So this idea-book came in handy to build some alternative builds for my Pirates stuff back in the day. Also the Forestmen (or Robin Hood as we would call them) were great too, we used to use plot ideas from Robin Hood when playing with the Forestmen in combination with Castle stuff. Some of the other builds were a bit frustrating because there was always some parts not in my collection which made the builds impossible to complete, so had to find ways to work around the parts missing. But all in all the stickers included in the idea-book and a little imagination would make for some proper upgrades to my city builds! Thanks for sharing this, it brought back many good memories :-)
Man I had this back in the day! Hey Jang, you should photocopy that sticker sheet. Then transfer that copy to a blank waterslide decal sheet, that way you'll always have more of them to use for future builds and such.
Thank you so much for this, as a huge fan of Pirates I it was really exciting to see new official Lego Pirate builds and scenarios that I'd never seen before.
I still have this book at home. When I was a kid, I was always lacking at least one important piece to get the build done as they were shown. It was a bit frustrating, but it was perfect to learn how to fix and adapt ideas to my pieces restriction. Plus, the pictures were always inspiring me to create something as cool as Lego did, but with my own stuff.
I remember this catalouge since I grew up in the 90s. Gotta admit that I had my LEGO Movie heroes posed to relive this lovely nostalgia here with me, yep I'm 30 and can still be that childish.... which is a good thing since LEGO is all about imagination and play! And you should never get old enough to not allow yourself to play!
Thanks for the moment of nostalgia. Can't believe you got this book in such great shape, even including the stickers! Too bad Lego doesn't make books like these anymore.
I had this as a kid, the nostalgia is hitting me hard right now. There was another one which was focussed on combining themes, I loved that one, you should try to get your hands on that if you can!
That hospital is clearly based on the original hospital set number 6980 released in '87. The tall three floor building on the town scene is also based on that set, moreover, the original box's back has a similar alternative build. The curved windows are found in the set 6376 Breezeway Cafe, which released in 1990. It also had the same "Ristorante" stickers.
I spend HOURS looking on these books. Great we still have books like this, but I liked more focused theme builds! Imagine this book now with sugestions for Friends, Star Wars, Nexo Knighs, Ninjago or even CBBS! One of my friends who is the biggest Classic Space fan, actualy menaged to build every SPACE sets that are shown in this!
I love these, I love it when you do the classic builds and show the instructions, not just for inspiration source. but even to see the 'alternate sets' like turning an X wing into a lightsaber
Wasn't around yet, but I have always loved the castle stuff from this era. I remember my cousin- who was about 7 years older than me- had a nice castle setup used with the parts and style of this era. I think he used mostly the later forest men stuff and the wolf pack things as well. It really stuck with me, I've been trying to collect old castle sets from this era because of that. Heck, I intend to write fantasy novels- and I can trace that back to these old sets! Always nice to see videos like this man ^.^
I had this one when i was 10. This was my bible, I used to take a look in it every evening just before bed time. I loved to fall a sleep with lots of Lego ideas on my mind :)
Cool! I'd love for you to do the other Idea books as well... there were two from my childhood in particular I have been looking at. 7777 and 6000. They were quite neat.
I wasn't alive back when this was done, but now I wish I was. So many cool things, I especially like the idea of the double tires on the monster truck.
I still have that catalogue, and i remember building several of those things, like the chinese man, the red cross boat, the lady with the childcart etc. Ahhh fun times.
I built several of the suggested sets in there. Hence also most stickers end up being used. The piece you had not seen before is found in a castle blacksmith set 6040.
I got that ideabook and build stuff from it in those days. Luckily i had the sets! Never forget i (you) got nice parents. Take nothing for granted. Lego is pricy but everlasting.
Haha it's great when jang gets excited about something he sees; you can really hear his voice change as if he's a little kid again haha. I'm also very guilty of that myself!
Hi, at 15:00 on page 35 one of the forestmen is wearing a green cloth piece on his head, the same they used for the pirates. I'm wondering if it's a mistake and it should have been the robin hood hat (like on the other figure) or that piece did exist in green back then?
just love what you do your city is amazing 👍👍.Thanks to seeing some of your vids I got my Lego out after about 15 years of being hidden away. it brigs a huge smile to me and the little one. PS I have the same book 😁 just been looking at the clinic and going to give it ago. keep up the amazing work.
I had this book too and it was awesome! The space bases and space ships are my favorites 🌌 I never had enough pieces to make anything but definitely inspired the imagination! Does Lego still make these idea books?
Smoov Operata LEGO still makes idea books, but not quite like this. The old idea books were paperback with ideas that combine official sets or ideas that could have been an official set. The idea books they make these days are hardcover, with a plastic sleeve and a lot more pages of ideas. They aren’t from any sets in particular though, just random pieces.
I have that red piece you're not familiar with...I'm unsure where it came from, I got it as a kid and am 35 now.. Probably an older castle set. 6022 and 6042
Looking at old instructions even old official sets they put so many parts on for each step making you have to really concentrate compared to the dumb down versions of today.

Oh man, I obsessed over that same book when I was a kid.
I was just about to say exactly the same thing! :D
Thanks for the throwback Jang!
I still have this book, I remember getting it for christmas. I loved, loved, LOVED this book so much.
Thanks for the moment of nostalgia. Can't believe you got this book in such great shape, even including the stickers! Too bad Lego doesn't make books like these anymore.

My favorite LEGO idea book! I own one
Some Ideas almost seem to be unreleased Sets!
The stickers were included with this book, and what an amazing set it was. I had it back in '91 :)

some nice trucks in there, but really like that tiny pirate ship. might try my hand at something like that soon.
finished watching, thought about 5mins of time elapsed, checks the video length 21mins MIND BLOWN!
I spend HOURS looking on these books. Great we still have books like this, but I liked more focused theme builds!

Always nice to see videos like this man ^.^
At around 10:30 that helicopter was an actual set. My grandma had a few small bagged sets, and that was one of them.
I have this book from the time I was a member of the Lego Builders club. I was in 1st grade
Thank You for Posting these catalogs, brings back alot of memories
This is great! I had this book when I was a kid. Those stickers definitely hit my nostalgia button.
I had this catalogue when i was young. Thanks for the trip down memory lane :D
I still have this book!
I had this one when i was 10. This was my bible, I used to take a look in it every evening just before bed time. I loved to fall a sleep with lots of Lego ideas on my mind :)
Jang's reaction to this book is the same as my reaction to it when I was a little kid!
I remember having this. Especially loved the castle on page 28, and built his own version of it.
Thank you for sharing an important piece of my childhood, brings back memories!
Cool! I'd love for you to do the other Idea books as well... there were two from my childhood in particular I have been looking at. 7777 and 6000. They were quite neat.

I have this book with all the stickers and everything. Great stuff.
I LOVED this book when I was a kid. Frustrating I never had the parts to build any of it. Really liked the stickers it came with
i still have same book with all stickers..bought it a long time ago...
Would be cool to see your take on a castle layout. Maybe something under the tables somewhere?
I still have that catalogue, and i remember building several of those things, like the chinese man, the red cross boat, the lady with the childcart etc. Ahhh fun times.
Hey jang can you try build some of these
Oh wow! I had this book! I saw the cover and was instantly transported!
+JANGBRiCKS Not sure if anyone said this already, but the burger stand sticker at 8:06 is from 6399 Airport Shuttle. :)
would love to see you build that first semi truck, or any of them for that matter. i loved the old 90s trucks
I built several of the suggested sets in there. Hence also most stickers end up being used. The piece you had not seen before is found in a castle blacksmith set 6040.
I really absolutely dig the Space themes from the 80's & 90's. 😆
I had this book as a kid, loved the sticker sheet, although in my head it seemed much bigger.
Jang! The red piece you pointed out from the carriage at min 14:20 reminds me of the piece used on the exo-force 7703 Fire Vulture's cockpit
12:10 right side is the truck from B. J. and the Bear, I think! That can't be a coincidence!
I still have this book, the castle it the back was my best page,I would gaze at that for hours
Hi, at 15:00 on page 35 one of the forestmen is wearing a green cloth piece on his head, the same they used for the pirates. I'm wondering if it's a mistake and it should have been the robin hood hat (like on the other figure) or that piece did exist in green back then?
I had this manual! you brought bake old memories from my childhood
Everything looks awesome!
Hi Jang good review. The piece youre pointing at 14:05 was used very often in legoland- and castlesets in the 80s and 90s. Have some myself.
nice vid jang u r the best lego/ brick building youtuber keep up the good work
Wow souvenirs!! My brother and I had this book and we tried a couple of the designs 😄
1990's International Jetport and Breezeway Cafe sets had those large curved transparent parts
I had this book and loved it to death! No literally the pages fell out! LOL! Fond memories! Thanks Jang!
The forestmen build actualy uses the water wheel to move hammer :)
ALL stickers were previously in sets!
Still have it and i also looked at it all the time.
the off road car from 9:15 looks very similar to one from the 6490 set, the amazon crossing from 1997 which I had ;)
just love what you do your city is amazing 👍👍.Thanks to seeing some of your vids I got my Lego out after about 15 years of being hidden away. it brigs a huge smile to me and the little one. PS I have the same book 😁 just been looking at the clinic and going to give it ago. keep up the amazing work.

14:05 That is an Animal Horse Hitching piece.
great video👌🏻👍🏻
i am 13 and actily realy like these old cool, litle builds😅
You should do ASMR. You have the right voice. Like this comment if you agree!
Zelda triforce? Was that a main part of that theme? I had this book as a kid. Thanks for the trip down memory lane! :)
Could you make a video on building simple custom lego houses? These are hard to find!
Thanks. ;)
Still have that book, still got the Toys R Us price tag on it
..... Thanks Jang, now i feel old XD I had that book as a young kid
I had this book too and it was awesome! The space bases and space ships are my favorites 🌌 I never had enough pieces to make anything but definitely inspired the imagination! Does Lego still make these idea books?

haha the reaction seeing the Monorail :) :like: thanks for this video
We still have one at home here!
i had that book and would take it to school with me!
Nice review sure gave me good inspirations for my city
There is also a funny fact - almost each build have a very rare brick in it! Obviously LEGO did that on purpose to buy bigger sets :D
Oh I have this I found in in my Garage.
Have you ever considered doing a livestream?
I would watch Jang build things for an hour or two, his voice is heavenly
The Postman
yes hes voice is from heaven😂😅
I agree dude :) I love his voice
I have this very book in my closet!!! :D
I have this book! :D such a good book
i still have this book :) is it worth allot?
Brilliant video I love these. Graf work jang
Great *
Lego was expensive and some of my friends parents would super glue the kits together so it didn't become a "ruined" pile of parts
That is AWESOME
I have that red piece you're not familiar with...I'm unsure where it came from, I got it as a kid and am 35 now.. Probably an older castle set. 6022 and 6042
Good morning/afternoon/night!
-Pufflez
Sweet, I always wanted to know what's inside of that book. ℅)
One minifigure kinda looks like Maniac4Bricks from 3:43 - 3:55.
We had that book!
this makes me nostalgic and I was born in 1996
Looking at old instructions even old official sets they put so many parts on for each step making you have to really concentrate compared to the dumb down versions of today.
Mat Prather mmh, in my opinion, not knowing a step in lego instructions is more frustrating than anything; I'm glad they do more pages now
i built a few of these back in the day
I also have this book!
I had one of those!
Jang, I think your city has changed enough for u to do a city update. "Fall 2016 LEGO city update"
Also finish the train station!!
Will smith he did finish the train station and he did a city video recently.
I have this but the cover is missing
I actually have this in perfect condition and the stickers as well
StormTrooper 54 TM save it
Byronian I will be I don't know what to do with it ;)
What is room 117?
