I absolutely love how lego used to use such amazing lighting and effects to bring there catalogs to life! Its a real shame they don't do it anymore... :'(

I had that Lego Technics car as a kid. It was amazing!
Working manual transmission, complex suspension, full rack and pinion steering, an engine with moving pistons, working differential, pop up lights with a switch on the dashboard, adjustable seats!
For me as a 10 year old it was the most incredible thing I'd ever seen.
I'd love to see you review it!

Jang, the Forestmen set 6066 Camouflaged Outpost (not shown in this catalog) is one of my favorite sets of all time. Forestmen were probably my favorite sub-theme in classic Castle even though I only ever had the one set. But I always looked at the Forestmen sets in these catalogs the same way you do in this video.

I remember this one, it's like every single set is a classic - the airport, the shuttle, the model team, the multiple space series the car chassis, even the smaller sets are amazing.

Such hard nostalgia. Oh man. This is the year I really stared getting into Lego. I was 7 I'd been playing with Lego for a couple years before hand, but didn't really ask for them until around 89 or 90. My neighbor gave me a huge box of Lego that he'd grown up with and got me started into it. His Legos were old enough to have the original single body figures. I still loved it. The very first large set I had gotten was a spyrius base. Anyhow, awesome video. Thanks for the memory jogging.

I wish they would still sell tree "battlepacks" with a bunch of nature stuff in one set just to accessorize a layout.

Lol. My father used to buy these sets in the nineties to create military models like a huge submarine, helicopters, bombers, etc. It's funny to recognize the sets he got the parts from, but also kinda nostalgic for me as I was very young in the early 2000s and used to marvel at the pictures and sets. I had that catalog for the longest time and this video brought back some good early Lego memories for me (even though I was really young 15 years after the catalog was released). This is why I am subbed to you, man. Legos will never get old.

i have to disagree about the lighting choices in this book it realy reminds me of 80's-90's movies and it also hits nostalgia to me for the Lego island video game for some reason the lighting was very simuler in some parts of the game and looking at this makes me want to buy al these sets and set them up like the picture or the game

Building with Lego has always been a passion of mine. When I was a kid my brother went off to college and handed down a bunch of sets, pieces and catalogs. I even have this catalog, some from the 80's as well I believe. Even to this day I still use parts from these sets in my new creations! The nostalgia is toooo real.

That cargo plane is one of my favourite Lego sets of all time. I particularly like it because it has a full, open cargo space the length of the fuselage (unlike the larger, more recent iterations) - just like a cargo plane actually should.

Love these catalog videos Jang! I was 13 when this catalog came out, I remember drooling over it all! Like you this was just before I put my Lego in storage. :(
Eventually I donated mine to a another kid who like myself didn't have much money for LEGO. So at least it went on to make another kid happy for a few years :)
That makes me wonder, what happened to your old collection?

I love looking through old LEGO brochures/catalogs/instructions! So fun! The 90s ones are weird to me, because the products/sets that were being offered were sending LEGO into financial dilemma; I can't help but think about that as I browse.

Oh man, I have several from that catalog. The space shuttle (1682), the 6506 Precinct Cruiser, 6673 Solo Trainer, 6357 Stunt Copter and Trailer, 6644 Road Rebel, 6591 Nitro Dragsters, 6508 Wave Racer, and a couple from the Pirates and Castle pages as well.
Man, this catalog apparently was my childhood.

Those were MY LEGO years! Great, great memories!
I still have the instructions (and supposedly most of the parts) for many of those sets, including the two big ships and the island from the pirates line and the forestmen river fortress. Oh, how I itch to rebuild them, but I don't find the time to sort out all of my bricks and pieces... Will do some day, though (hopefully).

That catalog has the very first Lego set I got as a kid, the Battle Dragon boat on the castle page. Funny little row boat with a red dragon head. For a couple of years it was the only Lego set I had, so I made space ships and airplanes and robots from the same few pieces over and over again.

  • @GraemePryce1978
    @GraemePryce1978 8 ปีที่แล้ว

Wow, I owned quite a lot of these sets when I was 11 / 12. This was round about the time that I started thinking I was a grown up and shouldn't be playing with lego anymore!
I had a lot of the pirate stuff and quite a few of the town and various space sets. I would imagine the majority of them are all sti in pieces upstairs stored away. Maybe I should get them out again? I'm 38 now and way past caring whether anyone thinks I should be playing with lego or not anymore!
Being able to do whatever you please is one of the few things that is nice about being an adult . . . . !

I love how my dutch 1990 catalogue is for 95% the same as this American one.
This is also the time I moved to computers and girls (well actually it would take me a long time to get anywhere with the latter .. but I still got the catalogues when they got released in the holiday season to check what had changed and because I had all them since 1981 or so.
the lego from the eighties is still at my parents house and their grandchildren are playing with it in 2016. (And a few years back I bought $4000 worth of unboxed and unsorted nineties lego for $425 , which included a train and at least 100 sets small and large, but I haven't told them yet, I plan to give them parts of it at some occasion (after I build sets to separate them from the big pile and to check how complete they are, the great thing these days is that you can easily get replacement parts)

I started collecting Lego as an adult in the early '90s. I have lots of these sets.
I don't know if you ever borrow sets to review, but if you're interested, you could probably talk me into loaning some of my sets. I know I have the sets listed in a spreadsheet. You could look through the list and see if there are any which would be worth shipping back and forth. Shipping the sets would be a pain and kind of expensive, but if you want to pay the postage, I'd probably be willing to pack up a few sets for you to borrow.
You do a great job with your photography. It would be fun to see the sets I have properly photographed.
    Thanks for the fun videos.

As someone who grew up with the classic Technic, I prefer the style as in this catalogue and hence don't really feel the same as you. The new stuff to me seems to have too many gimmicky or cosmetic parts.
I've thought about buying one of the recent big Technic sets, but it's almost like a different system and i feel it would sit alongside my old stuff and not integrate.
But maybe it would be nice to have some of the new bits which I like in my old Technic parts...
