I don't think they ever get resurrected by the Dragon Balls, either. But, like Jeice, Burter, Recoome, et al, Vegeta has doubtlessly murdered countless innocents offscreen, as well. And this includes both canon and Abridged Dragon Ball
The thing about Kaiser’s editing is it still holds up. Rewatching the show doesn’t make it feel dated. Plus I’m watching a TH-cam show I don’t expect Hollywood $100m edits. The jokes work. The edits work. That’s all that the show needed and remains all it needs.
I like youtube edits way more than professional ones to be honest. Professional editing might be "objectively better" but it has no life or soul. You've seen one trailer you've seen them all. But the editing you see from regulars can be so jam packed with creative techniques and transitions it's awe inspiring.
Making Recoome into a pro wrestler and having his fight with Vegeta, Krillin and Gohan be shot like an episode of Monday Night Raw was absolutely genius. As a fan of Baki you probably heard of it since it was inspired by Baki a lot and even had a special crossover. Just like Antonio Igari and Mount Toba the Pro Wrestler characters are very inspirational and fan favorites. My pfp is also from that manga.
What's interesting is that part of DBZ's success in the west is actually likewise connected to how _absolutely massive_ pro wrestling was in the Attitude Era and for about a decade after it ended. Like, there's a very clear, very well known fandom crossover and you so clearly see the commonalities between the two. Pro wrestling had nothing but wins as a genre in total from the 80s breakout hit era up until the 2000s, even if it was a near-monopoly. The monopoly only broke when it died off as a mainstream fandom.

As a long time WWE fan, Episode 20 became and still is my favourite DBZA episode. Recoome talking in third person like The Rock, Burter and Jiece being Jerry Lawler and JR. And the top it off, the typical wrestling trope of the babyface coming at the end for the save with Goku and his Hogan theme music. Props.
I recall the marathon leading up to the release of episode 60, Lani mentioned that he loved "punch drunk Krillin". What I love about Team Four Star's content is the love that went into it all. It starts out sort of feeling like "let's do it for the lulz", but partway into each it became "you know what, this is both fun *and* fulfilling, so let's really put in the effort to make something we can be proud of". It's easy to feel the passion that went into it, more and more along the way. There are people that dump on TFS, but they don't see, or care to see, beyond the surface of what each show is. I'm happy to say I'm not one of them. You and the team made some great content, so thank you for taking the time to not only do it, but do it *right.*

Possible explanation for Goku's Mind Reading: In DragonBall it was established that Goku and Krillin can resonate their Ki to train with each other in their minds. They called it Image Training. It allowed them to participate in long fights that happened almost instantly in the real world. It's possible that they entered their mind world and Krillin explained it all to Goku.
I heard a theory that basically most Hermit martial arts masters just naturally develop some level of mind reading abilities after a while, and that while Goku was training on his own on the way to Namek he finally counted as isolated enough to develop that ability (because realistically he's most of his masters' equal or superior by then besides Popo in terms of strength and skill.)

14:08 I never really considered this but Recoome is strong as fuck. The explosion he makes is the result of a misfire that shoots out of a single nostril instead of his mouth. Most of the energy likely damaged his mouth, yet the beam he shot from ONE NOSTRIL was large enough to engulf Vegeta entirely and nuke a nearby island. Imagine how huge it would've been if he'd actually fired it as intended.
27:18, something I appreciate about the original dragon ball z is that it was really good at demonstrating how powerful characters were. You get a sense of how strong Goku has become after he person that destroyed the rest of them, he takes out in one hit. It has really good set ups and pay offs like that. I think that's largely what makes it a good anime, even though on the surface level it seems simple just a power fantasy, some people mischaracterize it as that. Some people try to dismiss dragon ball z as just a simple anime about fighting, but it's how it arrives to these places is what makes it interesting. side note, Goku used telepathy before. When he told gohan to bounce back the spirit bomb, i buy it in this world. Where they keep breaking their limits, discovering new abilities, that one of them is the ability to psychically communicate. I like it I think it adds an additional layer of mysticism and intrigue. but it's also common in eastern cultures. The concept of an astral plane. In fact Gohan and Krillin also use this ability to mentally train against each other when on the ship to namek. Like they enter a mental plane and actually see each other in it. Piccolo also uses this astral plane to mental train, he uses the astral plane more than any other character. When he's sitting deep in meditation, he isn't just collecting his thoughts. A lot of the time he's also mentally training. He has a special mastery of training. I think the reason he could get up and walk over to pick up bubbles on king kai's planet, seemingly right away, was because when he was meditating he was mentally training. That's how he adjusted to the gravity faster than anyone else

Saw your videos first in 2009. You guys made me laugh so hard I lost my breath and turned purple. With each new girlfriend they laugh and genuinely gain an interest in DBZ, or a positive opinion of it at the least, because of TFS.
Honestly, I feel this is really the point where the writing (specifically the jokes) and the editing really started working hand in hand. Like that Predator handshake meme but with writing and editing.
Okay, I need to point something out here. Goku actually learned mind reading / telepathy from Master Roshi. "Jackie Chun" uses it back in Dragonball to see why Nam was so desperate to beat goku in that first Martial Arts tournament, the need for water to save Nam's people. There's also a point later on where Roshi and the Crane Hermit have a full blown telepathic argument that Bulma and Yamcha can "hear" because they're in the pathway of the two masters' thoughts. The thing is, unlike Roshi, Goku can't do it without direct contact and the other person fiercely projecting their thoughts - like Krillin trying to give a whole explanation of what's going on. Yes, it's a bit deus ex machina because Goku learned the technique offscreen somewhere between Dragonball and here, but there is legitimate evidence that the ability is real and available to martial artists long before this.
They can also do image training so I think they have some sort of telepathy. Goku talked to Gohan during the Saiyan saga and Piccolo does it later on during the Dr. Gero chase scene
It would have been cool if they were all like Recoome, but I think he partly feels so special and fun because he’s unique. Also the DBZA version of Recoome is so good no superlative can express how good.

An added bonus to playing GT’s theme music for Vegeta is that everyone theorizes that GT stands for Goku Time…and it’s even funnier as at the end of this episode it actually is Goku’s Time. Then when he fights Jeice and Burter Goku break dances and says “stop, it’s Goku Time” - to which Vegeta should’ve waited for. ((Another Goku Button - which is brought back up in the Android Arc))
The whole talk about the "fastest guy in the universe" thing kinda got me thinking about what actually attributes to the power level of a character. I'd like to think it's a combination or an average of all their faculties. So even though Ginyu has a higher power level, Berter could maybe have more of his power coming from his speed factor than Ginyu so he COULD be faster, in theory.
My headcanon is that power level is the non mystic way that Frieza's people have interpreted general life energy or internal ki. You still need technique or magic to express that ki, into physical effects and thats where martial arts come in. Its also my main theory to justify why Krillin can't blow up a planet despite having a higher power level than Saiyan Saga vegeta, he never wanted to so he never learnt a planet destroying 'technique'. Of course it completely falls apart when master roshi can blow up the moon all the way back in Dragonball😅

@@randallflagg3700 Kengan Ashura and it's sequel Kengan Omega as well as its predecessor webcomic Fist of the Seeker. As a fan of Baki you probably heard of it since it was inspired by Baki a lot and even had a special crossover. Just like Antonio Igari and Mount Toba the Pro Wrestler characters are very inspirational and fan favorites. My pfp is also from that manga.
What's interesting is that part of DBZ's success in the west is actually likewise connected to how _absolutely massive_ pro wrestling was in the Attitude Era and for about a decade after it ended. Like, there's a very clear, very well known fandom crossover and you so clearly see the commonalities between the two. Pro wrestling had nothing but wins as a genre in total from the 80s breakout hit era up until the 2000s, even if it was a near-monopoly. The monopoly only broke when it died off as a mainstream fandom.

Games, anime, cartoons, comics and all that took many inspirations from pro wrestling and it's presentation. It's really amazing how the Pro Wrestling industry is such an overlap of many types of "nerd" culture.

As a long time WWE fan, Episode 20 became and still is my favourite DBZA episode. Recoome talking in third person like The Rock, Burter and Jiece being Jerry Lawler and JR. And the top it off, the typical wrestling trope of the babyface coming at the end for the save with Goku and his Hogan theme music. Props.
I recall the marathon leading up to the release of episode 60, Lani mentioned that he loved "punch drunk Krillin".
What I love about Team Four Star's content is the love that went into it all. It starts out sort of feeling like "let's do it for the lulz", but partway into each it became "you know what, this is both fun *and* fulfilling, so let's really put in the effort to make something we can be proud of". It's easy to feel the passion that went into it, more and more along the way.
There are people that dump on TFS, but they don't see, or care to see, beyond the surface of what each show is. I'm happy to say I'm not one of them. You and the team made some great content, so thank you for taking the time to not only do it, but do it *right.*

Possible explanation for Goku's Mind Reading: In DragonBall it was established that Goku and Krillin can resonate their Ki to train with each other in their minds. They called it Image Training. It allowed them to participate in long fights that happened almost instantly in the real world. It's possible that they entered their mind world and Krillin explained it all to Goku.
Also Master Roshi reading Nam's mind
I heard a theory that basically most Hermit martial arts masters just naturally develop some level of mind reading abilities after a while, and that while Goku was training on his own on the way to Namek he finally counted as isolated enough to develop that ability (because realistically he's most of his masters' equal or superior by then besides Popo in terms of strength and skill.)

Honestly Goku thinking Vegeta and him are best friends completely lines up with Goku's history of befriending most of the people who tried killing him over the years. After having it happen so much he would just start assuming he's friends with people he's fought.
I love that Taka loves Krillin. Our short king really doesn't get enough respect, in the Abridged or otherwise. Speaking of which, also glad that we share the love for some good but likely underrated moments like Punch-drunk Krillin and Jeice getting punched over and over. 😂

I never really considered this but Recoome is strong as fuck.
The explosion he makes is the result of a misfire that shoots out of a single nostril instead of his mouth. Most of the energy likely damaged his mouth, yet the beam he shot from ONE NOSTRIL was large enough to engulf Vegeta entirely and nuke a nearby island.
Imagine how huge it would've been if he'd actually fired it as intended.

27:18, something I appreciate about the original dragon ball z is that it was really good at demonstrating how powerful characters were. You get a sense of how strong Goku has become after he person that destroyed the rest of them, he takes out in one hit. It has really good set ups and pay offs like that. I think that's largely what makes it a good anime, even though on the surface level it seems simple just a power fantasy, some people mischaracterize it as that. Some people try to dismiss dragon ball z as just a simple anime about fighting, but it's how it arrives to these places is what makes it interesting.
side note, Goku used telepathy before. When he told gohan to bounce back the spirit bomb, i buy it in this world. Where they keep breaking their limits, discovering new abilities, that one of them is the ability to psychically communicate. I like it I think it adds an additional layer of mysticism and intrigue. but it's also common in eastern cultures. The concept of an astral plane. In fact Gohan and Krillin also use this ability to mentally train against each other when on the ship to namek. Like they enter a mental plane and actually see each other in it. Piccolo also uses this astral plane to mental train, he uses the astral plane more than any other character. When he's sitting deep in meditation, he isn't just collecting his thoughts. A lot of the time he's also mentally training. He has a special mastery of training. I think the reason he could get up and walk over to pick up bubbles on king kai's planet, seemingly right away, was because when he was meditating he was mentally training. That's how he adjusted to the gravity faster than anyone else

With each new girlfriend they laugh and genuinely gain an interest in DBZ, or a positive opinion of it at the least, because of TFS.
Honestly, I feel this is really the point where the writing (specifically the jokes) and the editing really started working hand in hand.

Okay, I need to point something out here. Goku actually learned mind reading / telepathy from Master Roshi. "Jackie Chun" uses it back in Dragonball to see why Nam was so desperate to beat goku in that first Martial Arts tournament, the need for water to save Nam's people. There's also a point later on where Roshi and the Crane Hermit have a full blown telepathic argument that Bulma and Yamcha can "hear" because they're in the pathway of the two masters' thoughts.
The thing is, unlike Roshi, Goku can't do it without direct contact and the other person fiercely projecting their thoughts - like Krillin trying to give a whole explanation of what's going on. Yes, it's a bit deus ex machina because Goku learned the technique offscreen somewhere between Dragonball and here, but there is legitimate evidence that the ability is real and available to martial artists long before this.
They can also do image training so I think they have some sort of telepathy. Goku talked to Gohan during the Saiyan saga and Piccolo does it later on during the Dr. Gero chase scene

An added bonus to playing GT’s theme music for Vegeta is that everyone theorizes that GT stands for Goku Time…and it’s even funnier as at the end of this episode it actually is Goku’s Time. Then when he fights Jeice and Burter Goku break dances and says “stop, it’s Goku Time” - to which Vegeta should’ve waited for.

The whole talk about the "fastest guy in the universe" thing kinda got me thinking about what actually attributes to the power level of a character. I'd like to think it's a combination or an average of all their faculties. So even though Ginyu has a higher power level, Berter could maybe have more of his power coming from his speed factor than Ginyu so he COULD be faster, in theory.
My headcanon is that power level is the non mystic way that Frieza's people have interpreted general life energy or internal ki. You still need technique or magic to express that ki, into physical effects and thats where martial arts come in. Its also my main theory to justify why Krillin can't blow up a planet despite having a higher power level than Saiyan Saga vegeta, he never wanted to so he never learnt a planet destroying 'technique'. Of course it completely falls apart when master roshi can blow up the moon all the way back in Dragonball😅
